Really admire the way you’ve taken Peter under your wing. Being patient with him and explaining things. Great job as always.
Hey Mike. I took a boiler coarse with a few guys that know you, Ivan from weil McLain was one. We discussed the ignitor gasket that supposedly doesn't come in the boiler kit anymore actually is hidden in the little inhibitor box. I asked in class what was up with that and they explained in gets less damaged in box. Sooooooo they are still there. I talked you up buddy, and because of your videos, I looked like a pro. Thanks pipe doctor.
A great teacher…. As a 5year guy still trying to gain as much knowledge as possible i really appreciate it.
I appreciate that!
The maintenance kit directs you to start cleaning on the bottom, not the top as you have done.
As always I'm very impressed with your work! But in our area the boilers are so old it makes that thing look like a cute water softener. For the first couple times I thought it was a water softener when I seen you guys working on it and I didn't understand what you were saying. Of course you know I'm in repair at all. I'm just interested in how nice you treat your customers. Keep up the great work (I think I figured out why we have very few new boilers. Most homes are going to high efficiency deducted heating and cooling and even I like our high school has went to ground water heat pump .)
Directions say to use a torque wrench.
Great video!! I just started working on these as of yesterday 12-13-23 and this video is a big help. Maybe a video on setting them up with outdoor temp compared to supply temp. Thank you!!
I have an Ultra 80, 13 years old. I definitely didn't save any money over the old cast iron boiler, once you add up all the maintenance costs. Is there a worth alternative or just go back to cast iron?
Maintenance manual directs you to use the sword at 0 degrees(straight on), then +45 degrees then -45 degrees. Read the manual, before making a video on proper maintenance.
Very professional!
I will more than likely purchase a high efficiency WHJ for myself, but I would never give myself a headache putting one in a customer's home.
That is an expensive service call!😂🤣😂🇺🇲
Stay safe
Wear your safety glasses!

I remember this one from last year. Great video.
Should be torquing the burner plate/front HX cover bolts with a torque wrench in the specified pattern found in the manual, Dr.
I have found that torquing the nuts at the prescribed 50 inch pounds is scary because the bolts will snap. They know this because they come with the cleaning kit. I’ve asked Weil McLain about this with no concrete answers. But if you read the Manual on page 111 for Ultra 155 - 399 line #13 it actually says “ the final torque MUST NOT exceed 50 inch-pounds +/- 10 inch-pounds.So they are saying tighten the nuts in the correct pattern but don’t exceed that number. But it doesn’t say torque To 50 inch-pounds very vague.
Nice job as always, Mikey👍. Kudos to Peter, but he should have went Trick-or-Treating with the Latinas Chickas😁
Thanks for the midnight snack! Sincerely, well fed
Weilmclain redesigned exhaust tail piece to collect and direct condensate right into trap to solve the deterioration of bottom of heat exchanger around 10 years ago
Good job Mike and Peter.
Agree totally. Changing the block on those units is no fun. Especially since a yearly service like you did is all that's needed to help prevent it.
Awesome. That is the first time I've seen one mounted on the wall like that. 👍
My ultra 155 lasted 23 years before it started to rot, I serviced it every year and replaced inducer fan Assy and control board once. All in all a good unit. I did torque to 50 in lbs in sequence the cover plate as in the manual though. Stan.
Yeah, ran into a few of these with cracked off ears on the cover plates due to people over tightening them.
Hi may I ask where are you located and how much did it cost you for the yearly maintenance. I just bought a house with the HE Boiler like this one and I’m learning how important it is to service yearly.
The instructions direct that you use the sword in the straight-thru mode, then at +45 degree, then at -45 degree. Come on Mikey, read the directions.
Nice job keep doing good job
i maintenance 5 of those a day, very important to shut off and get tools ready while it cools down before opening heat exchanger cover plate so it dont crack at bolts.
also try going down on a 45 degree through baffles with the sword
@@PipeDoctor 1 team one dream Michael!!!
You could add a transparent Plexi as temp. cover , this way you can flush the heat exchanger full power with water. In the meantime it is automatically flushing, you can clean the real cover. ( what Peter was doing )
MUY BUENO CLASS. PROFESOR
How much is maintenance for this particular boiler?
I got same flashlight got for all my workers also
😎
Nice job
Unfortunately the burner and plate were put on someones floor and WM stipulates you need a resperator while using the "sword" and changing gaskets because of as you said earlier that the condensate is acidic. You didnt torque your burner plate bolts...the plate will warp now because of uneven torquing on each bolt
Nice. BTW Mikey, Pipe Vice has new hand tools: Micro 5 and Micro 10. Check them out.
Where do you get the sword?

What kind of annual maintenance does a heat pump need. Besides cleaning the outside unit.
@@PipeDoctor the manual says to consult a professional. I don’t think they need much maintenance.
@@PipeDoctor I have a Lennox. I’ve only had one “service” in 12 years because the outside fan wasn’t running. Come to find out it doesn’t run in defrost 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
You didn’t clean the heat exchanger properly. You need to “sword” it on an angle not just straight in. You’ll clean it so much better.
Exactly. He only cleaned 33% of it. It has to be cleaned with the sword at a 45 degree angle upward and at a 45 degree angle downward. A total of 3 orientations. Not just one. This is shown on Page 90 of the manual.

Great to see people doing things the right way. I have to wonder what cost of 20 year ownership is between a gas high efficient unit and a standard boiler. Obviously you’ll save on the utility bill but maybe lose on the yearly maintenance costs?
You are not saving money! You are lessening your carbon imprint. People always equate high efficiency with saving money. Not true 25 years is tops for this boiler life opposed to dumb boiler last you 50 years!
@@josephfarley3526 you are lessening your bank account with high efficiency and making the executives and shareholders of the companies producing "high efficiency" equipment rich enough to fly around on private jets and heat their three mansions along with in-ground pools even when no one is there. Your personal "carbon footprint" is negligible compared to theirs. It's about money, not carbon dioxide. Want to be green? Burn all the fossil fuels you can to increase the CO2 levels on Earth, because historically they've been much higher than they are now. The Sahara Desert was once a rainforest... when CO2 levels were much higher.

220 thumbs up
Can I get a test ride in the 992
In the wifes pocket book. Nothing done without permission. I'm more of the cash type. Lol. I love your videos. Very hands on. Can I send you and your crew gift cards?
The red carpet vip
All condensing boilers, 10 year boilers, should be banned.
Did that maintenance kit not come with a new flue sensor gasket? I just did a 399 and my kit had one in it
Peter needs to think 5 steps ahead, not just what’s in front of him at that moment.
Time to step up to the plate or miss the pitch
He's learning. It comes with time.

Food!!!!
Those are the worst heat exchangers....very easy to access and clean...but garbage nonetheless
You should get a 1 gallon pump sprayer, alot less messy?
