There's this game on steam called Hellish Quart. It's pretty similar with the One hit kills. However it does lack the different weapons and the Bushido. But it's something
Man I stumbled across that game in a long search for something like Bushido Blade... It's good but not on the same level as BB. :( still, with nothing else taking its place, I've prob made it to the top .1% of hellish quart players in hours played
Elveon i believe was aiming to be a similar combat system. Fluid realistic movements with real hit mechanics. But i don't think it made it very far in development.
I had no idea about the endings when I was growing, but the main reason i loved the one hit kills and the bandages from injured limbs. As an adult I caught myself playing with my kids with blow up swords and when we hit a body part you could t use it lmfao inspiration from bushido blade. I middle aged now I found it on psx been with me my whole life in some way
The Deadliest Warrior game series felt more like a spiritual successor to the Bushido Blade series than Kengo did. Kengo immediately turned me off with the life bars.
With another human player it's 100000x more fun you can screw around rolling all over the ground going into different stances and trying all the weapons and weights, the sledge hammers are intense
How was this never released? I am terrible at fighting games, but wanted to play this so much when it came out. No health bar and the ability to kill your opponent with one good strike is just out of the box thinking.
Because there were unique games, we never got bored of playing video games. These days, I don't even feel like buying a new console/ pc/ games because I just don't feel like I want to play something. As for this game, the gameplay really seems unique. I will give this a try.
Yeah nobody knew about "The Well". I always thought it was the sequel that introduced the gun. Witch is fucking awesome... Until you miss and your fucked!!
Loved Bushido Blade. I never had a Sony console, but my friend from across the street had one and we played this game for many many hours. One day I managed to beat the "slash mode", defeating 100 enemies and unlocking a secret character (Kaze, the guy with the gun). Felt so good ^^ And after many years of not playing it (PS 2 had been out for a while), I found out that there was another secret character, or more like a secret boss battle. Requires a very specific way of play during the story mode.
Bushido Blade was a great game to play against your friends. I think it was BB2 where we would have the broadsword battle on a cliff. Your character could die just by falling off said cliff. Truly the best and only one hit kill game ever. Why no one has ever made a game so perfect since is beyond me
Bushido blade was the same game both times but it did improve a little bit. The body damage delete was worse the second time because it added a bit of suspense for the player that wanted to play the game fluently and not want to rely on how they could just restart the game. I think the first one should have advanced waaaaaaay further with honor
Yeeeaahhh Bushido Blade! Some games that kinda seem like spiritual successors include Hellish Quart (like @frikideredesgameplays3814 mentioned) and also Die By The Blade, which Mike Ross & Xian played on their youtube and is coming out soonish.
The Bushido Blade games are highly underrated. Had loads of fun with them back in the day.

They should have leaned into the realistic damage here and this could have been an instant classic.

Still surprised there's no indie company that has made a spiritual successor type game for Bushido Blade.
The deadliest warrior on 360 is pretty similar. That's the only game I can think of.
Kenjo was very close.
What about Hellish Quart

Without running away, I'm still able to get to the guy with the gun. I just follow the code 100%.
The jump system was beautiful in both games. You had to tap top and bottom right shoulder buttons to make a good jump. Fun mechanic
Man I loooooved this game. Many many late nights with this game and my brothers.

God I love this game it's so legit but I was never able to beat the entire Bushido style levels to unlock that final guy

always wondered about this game, thanks for covering it!
This sounds so cool. Thanks for sharing!
I haven't played this in years. I loved bushido blade as a kid.

This game was wild. My personal favorite was giving someone else the guy with a gun and seeing if I could kill them.
I loved the arcade cabinet, this and samurai showdown ❤
I never knew who the red samurai was
Me and the homie used to play the hell out of this game.
Number 2 is so good! I wish they remade it.

I think the graphics got better and everyone forgot what real mechanics were because of being distracted
Bushido Blade was awesome
I played Kengo on ps2 pvp so much, we really got into it innever played any of the story though.
One of those games I played a ton but forgot about. I never liked the health bar in fighters, and this game was amazing to me as a 9 year old.
The second game was a set back
yer gunna wunna
I rember a well but that's about it I think I played slash mode the most
Transition?!
I got this game of Funko land back in the day youse man it was awesome I loved it was nothing like it at the time
Just thought about this game in passing a day ago. Something so ubiquitous and YT hits me with it. Tired of this thought-scan bs lol.
so bushido blade 2 is a downgrade... :(
The ONLY thing missing in this game is DISMEMBERMENT/GIBS/GORE.
