    Bryan, that was seriously the best illustration of a thermal runaway I've ever seen. BRAVO!

    First Comment! Your reviews are alway awesome. FYI, my Hero Me Gen7 print head assembly supports the Neptune 3 Plus for when you want to upgrade the hotend/extruder with any of the popular 3rd party hotends and extruders for high flow and high speed print performance, along with the best part cooling available.

    I have the same issue with removing the micro sd card and the build plate moving to the back so it's not just your machine.

      looks like this is intended to work this way. it gives you more freedom to replace the sd card into the fronthole. with the bed in front it can be fiddly.

    A proper power shutdown via the power switch may not trigger an unexpected power loss state. Try pulling the plug and see if that makes a difference.

      Tried it. No difference. Power loss recovery's just not working on this machine.

    Did you test the power shutoff safety by cutting the power to the machine instead of using the printer's power switch? As an engineer I can see the power switch overriding a shutoff safety since it would be user error

    • @CelticNFC1
      @CelticNFC1 Рік тому

      100% agree. Usually switching the power off at the units power switch indicates an intentional power down by the user. A external power loss either due to black out, safety switch trip on the power board or just by someone unplugging the wrong power cord is viewed as unintentional and should bring the unit back to the resume after power loss feature.

    • @beanos2287
      @beanos2287 Рік тому

      This is exactly what I was thinking. I figured the printer might be interpreting the switch being flipped to off as an intentional action, rather than an inadvertent loss of power.

    Thermal runaway works for a loose thermistor, but what if the mosfet fails. They almost always fail full on. I can't say I've heard of one failing in the last few years so maybe that's not an issue anymore.

    Great video. Just wanted to mention that power supplies control their own fan speeds internally. Firmware will not do anything about that. Only thing you can do is replace with larger quieter fan of same voltage specs

    This is my first ever 3D printer, I've been doing research for months and this review honestly made me choose the Neptune 3 Plus! I am worried because I consistantly see people talking about changing speed and the axis which I am too scared to touch! Do you have any advice? I am using the ELEGOO PLA 1kg black filament 1.75mm in diameter. Any help or reassurance would be greatly appreciated! Love your channel!

    I was thinking of either maybe getting this one or the Elegoo Neptune 3 Max printer as a replacement for my troublesome Tronxy X5SA, which despite the upgrades I done to the Tronxy of a better auto leveling sensor and magnetic build plate and Titan Extruder.
    It still is playing me up and not printing at all well? But the Neptune 3 Plus is $350 and the Max is $470. also all the Elegoo range of Neptune 3 type printers are all out of stock on the Elegoo site.

    regarding the resume printing, it was quite stupid but you have to enable in the setting screen during the print again. It doesn't accept the resume printing in the setting menu as a default.

      Had one of them myself for a few months and couldn't stand it. Nothing worked as advertised and customer support is essentially non-existent. These printers seem to be more of a cash grab to this company than products they actually stand behind, and the fact that the "upgraded" versions of the N3 were announced mere weeks after the original supports this theory.

    I left this question on the Cura/Elegoo vid but it didn't appear
    Is there a way to get the picture of the item being printed to appear on the printer's screen when not using Elegoo's version of Cura.?
    If using the latest version of Cura it stops the pic appearing....I have done the "MKS WiFi plugin" instructions shown in a few online websites but still cant get the pic to appear...it only shows on the buddah file created with Elegoo's old version of Cura

    Any chance you could provide the dimensions of the printer overall? I want to build an enclosure and have it ready when mine arrives!

    • @BV3D
      @BV3D  Рік тому +2

      Do you want that in metric, or in Freedom Units? 😉

    • @BV3D
      @BV3D  Рік тому +1

      OK, so - Freedom Units, because that's what my tape measure is. 😃
      Width: 26 inches, allowing for gantry cabling, 23 inches actual.
      Depth: 31 inches, allowing for bed travel and bed cabling, 21 inches actual.
      Height: 34 inches, including a typical spool on the spool holder. 31 inches to top of spool holder, 25.5 inches to top of gantry.
      Those measurements (26w x 31d x 34h) would be tight, in my estimation. I'd allow an extra inch or two on width & depth, and maybe an extra inch or two in height as well, if you're intending for the spool to be in the enclosure.

    Often power loss does not function when you use the switch to turn off the printer try pulling the plug out of the wall and see if that works.

    • @BV3D
      @BV3D  Рік тому

      Hi! Long time no see! I don't understand why it would be any different that way. The power switch sits between the power input socket on the printer and the power supply. Turning the switch off introduces an air gap between mains power and the power supply. Unplugging it the power cord also introduces an air gap between mains power and the power supply. Turning it off with the power switch should have the same effect as unplugging it, shouldn't it? 😉

    • @MisterkeTube
      @MisterkeTube Рік тому

      @@BV3D I rather believe you turned the printer off on the first layer. Powerloss recovery works by storing the layer you have finished persistently (often on the sd-card) after each layer. If you hence unplug before the first layer finishes, there is no such information yet and hence the printer won't realize there's something to resume, but you will also not have lost much as you were still on the first layer.

    • @BV3D
      @BV3D  Рік тому +1

      @@MisterkeTube The model was not a tall one, but it was about 5 layers in when I turned the printer off. 🙂

    • @ZebraandDonkey
      @ZebraandDonkey Рік тому

      @@BV3D actually it doesn’t. Usually the firmware is looking for a specific kind of power loss. On the PRUSA you have the power panic cable specifically for this.

    • @BV3D
      @BV3D  Рік тому +1

      @@ZebraandDonkey Hi, just following up on this.
      I just performed another power loss test, this time by unplugging the power cord from the wall, with the machine several layers into a print. I let it sit unpowered for several seconds, then plugged it back in. It booted, unaware it had been printing mere moments before. I stand by my assessment that the power loss recovery feature on the Neptune 3 Plus doesn't work.
      Also I acknowledge that the MK3 is a special beast. I think it has extra capacitors built into the PSU to provide power during a power panic, to allow the printer to perform parking maneuvers. The MK3's PSU also has some sort of "Ooops, no input power" signal provided by the PSU, which is monitored by the firmware, so it knows when a power loss event has occurred.

    Great video. I own two Neptune 3 Pros and a Plus and they work great. The only issue is firmware support. It seems a little sketchy that the firmware is done by someone named "Naruto" and now that Elegoo has moved on to the Neptune 4 series, it doesn't seem like they care about the 3 series anymore. I just updated to the latest firmware (released 6 months ago) and now my printer reboots every time that I access the "Prints" menu.
