“The tragic truth is that if the West had not pursued NATO expansion into Ukraine, it is unlikely there would be a war in Ukraine today and Crimea would still be part of Ukraine.” Mearsheimer wrote.
And Russia played a critical role in the fact that Ukraine wants to join NATO so badly, like all the countries surrounding Russia! When you want to analyze a situation you should try to analyze the WHOLE situation. Russia is a columnist, don't forget that!

The truth of the matter is we had a chance to stop Putin's expansionism before it got this far. We could have put up a fight on Georgia, or later Crimea. But we didn't, and now we're here. Yes, we could have just left Ukraine to flounder and die, but rest assured he wouldn't just get Ukraine and say "welp, that's enough."

Going nuclear is the equivalent of two people who are fist-fighting, stopping the fist-fight, pulling out their guns and blowing their own brains out at the same time in mutual suicide. If NATO is attacked, the first reaction will be with conventional forces, not nuclear, and it is not guaranteed that it will go nuclear because both sides lose when that happens. Beefing up the conventional military makes a conventional attack from Russia less likely than if there are fewer NATO troops ready to respond.

Even China doesn't force countries into uncomfortable alliances, they all choose to do so of their own Accord because of what they stand to gain economically. Yes. I AM concerned. Of course I'm concerned. I lived through the actual cold war. It bothered me a great deal daily until the mid 90s. But today, the climate scares me more. Because mother nature doesn't negotiate.
