Raising my daughter in prison for a crime I did not commit broke my heart | Lynn Ngugi Show

- Teresa Njoroge might be free now, but her name will forever be in our prison system. The mother of two made headlines a decade ago accused of stealing Ksh.19 Million from her employer and faced an additional charge of attempting to defraud the bank Ksh.9.9 Million.
Her daughter was only 3months when the ruling to send Teresa to Langata Women's Prison was made. She had no choice but to raise her daughter in prison
She is our guest on the Lynn Ngugi Show, and this is her story

Mnapenda yellow yellow!
There is no way Teresa could even think of stealing anything from anyone. We used to work together in the hospitality industry and she's the sweetest person you can meet. Am sorry that she had to go through all that. Sending love to her
@Paul Henry ...lol wewe na mganga wako ni wa tz ama???
But did you ever visited her in the jail no 🤔
@ruthwambugu7549 good question! This such are the worst people in life!
Did u ever visit her in jail if u were such good Freinds👀🙄
I see judgemental bitter comments here. Her statement isn't wrong in any way.
Can I just compliment her beauty, elegance and poise.
This LADY should be news anchor ,she has the skills ,language, body language and expression.
Yeah she does unbelievable how cold people can be..
I agree 101%
Yes that's true but the problem she has a criminal record
"It's not the stab in the back that kills you!
It's when you turn around and see who's holding the knife 🔪 ."
Nice
I was arrested once, some 5yrs ago. It happened in South Africa. I spent almost 9mths on remand and got a suspended sentence. As our sister said, mostly the once that suffer is the poor. Completely true. The pain of spending the whole day in a small overloaded room with some of the most ill disciplined in the world is not easy to put in words. It is there in jail God showed me the kind of person I wasn`t aware of. I went in confused and naive but I came out a better person. This sister`s story is really emotional. I did shed a tear. Yes men cry a lot.
Take heart Bro.God knows all.
God above everything
Pole Tobias.Hugs
I like your surname 🙂
Even though I'm south African I feel so bad you faced injustice here, mmm the way I am scared of jail. May you find healing❤️I'm so sorry
Teresa has so much class.
Her dress code, simple but classic
Her mannerism
Her elegance
Everything about her ooze class
What a beautiful soul🤔. God will restore you a hundredfold. You are a blessing to many.
I know, classy but warm
Still a cloud, a puzzle hangs around her.
You know what they say....bad things happen to good people....
I hope one day I will get the courage to tell my story😭
Helloooooo again Teresa!! I first heard Teresa's harrowing account in a BBC interview many years ago. Her's is a powerful story about bouncing back from very dark places and going on to become a shelter for many. May God richly Bless your work Teresa.
The amazing , wonderful Teresa Njoroge that I work with at Clean Start Solutions. Such an honor to work with her to bring positive transformation in the lives of thousands of women, children and girls impacted by the criminal justice system.
I really wish to join you guys

I was with Mama Shiko in Langata women prison. Prison is hell on earth. Being there for 8yrs was not easy,,,I left my kids,, I used to see them once in a year and it's for some hours.... Even though I was there for the crime I did,,, my children didn't deserve to go through what I they went through. Teresa has really helped us to recover it's not easy getting out of prison and counting with life... Sometimes I used to wish go back to prison.

Hi Lynn, thank you for sharing this story. I have emailed you with regards to my daughter who is currently in prison in Rwanda where we live. We are Kenyan. I would be really happy to connect with Teresa as we need emotional support from people who have been through this situation. It is very difficult to be honest. God bless you.
Christ while on this earth was convicted too. We can only have hope that all this will come to pass.
Hi Lynn am really touched by this story especially with how the babies suffer in prison ,is it possible for someone to visit the prisons and give those kids clothes even if they are used?
This is it for me. I'm a Nigerian lawyer, I'm going to help get people like these out
Please make it your life's mission and push for change on the way women and children are done this way. You won't become rich however it will bring blessings to you and your family.
So help you God
😂😂😂
We have layers in Kenya. 😊
Shes soo smooth and lovely in her talking.so eloquent,I haven’t even blinked ,I felt bad when it ended😢😢shes going far. God above everything
I too named my kids based on the situation or circumstance we were in.
Our daughter is called Amani she was born 2007 post election violence and we prophesied she is and she will be the peace even in her generation.
Our son Baraka,we were going through financial struggles and he is a blessing and will be a blessing to his generation
True to their naming our gal she is a peace keeper, our son Baraka our financial situation changed and he will be a game changer and a big blessing to his generation.
My firstborn was named sasha by my husband and freinds which I was against.......the rest 2nd born I Named her JOY to bring joy and happiness in my home because I had a very sad moments low moments my husband was so toxic and I knew JOY will bring happiness and I thank GOD,I am almost having my third born whom am planning to Name BARAKA because I believe He will bring us out of financial crisis
Those are good names despite the hard times
@Paul Henry you are a sad case trying to cam people.
Lyn looking all good today...am loving this woman bit by bit she expresses herself so well
Are you sure she is looking good 😂😂
I work in a bank and I can tell Teresa did all due diligence as per the policy, but colleagues can totally ruin your life if they want to destroy you.
Matikaingira kaburi matarihite na matikona thayu ever ever...
Everything is vanity
I was a banker at Equity and I left when I realized that my superior always framed me for small issues . I thought the can even frame me for fraud issues . I thank God
That's how it starts, before you know it , you are accused of some alleged fraud......... they destroy people's careers... just move on
She reminds me of Joseph in the Bible. Her soul type is most likely Ephraite or Manasseh! What those who threw her in meant for evil, God meant for good! And many will be blessed because of her experience!
Sometimes when God wants to elavate us,He always causes some pain for His glory. Sometimes the people close to us are the ones who will make us suffer and go through alot but in the end He always make a way,He always ensure we come out strong than before. Teresa, you raised your child in that pathetic place,I know sometimes you used to look at your baby and you like God why me. God was busy writing your story and yes you are here because He made a way..thanks for sharing, and I know the people who caused you pain are troubled wherever they are.
Absolutely..
Well put but just a slight correction. God does not cause anyone pain. He may allow it for us to learn something but NO, He doesn't cause our pain.
This is exactly what I was thinking as I was watching this. God always allows things to happen in our life's so He can use us to help others out. You can only help someone out of something you have went yourself through. God's way of doing things is not always understood by human mind.
@@teopistorsind9874 How about Isaiah 66; 9 " In the same way I will not cause pain without allowing something new to be born,” says the LORD. “If I cause you the pain, I will not stop you from giving birth to your new nation,” says your God
@@mongalix8 You are right . I am wrong.
There are no words to describe what l feel. When God chooses you for a mission He takes you to places that you would never normally go. God hand picked you to heal others who had been neglected. He knew you had compassion. I feel your heart for the people. In deed you are Christ in movement. Such an amazing story. Blessings on your life🙏🏾
Been there and had to face reality and found my purpose.
We really need to arrange to give panties and pads to women in Prison. Its really sad to hear that and yet there is a budget for the prisons department every year. This money goes to the pockets of those in charge instead of providing the bare necessities for the prisoners. ITS A SAD SITUATION!
Very true, we need to do something about it
It's true, so sad😢
Yes,,we should..its very sad

The truth is Africa is one rotten continent that you may wonder why is it there. Why do we have to vote and wish for change if we can't get it. Hello Lynn. Thank you for bringing us such incredible, educative and inspirational stories. This lady’s experience in prison ten years ago in Kenya still demonstrates the current justice system, which is shaped by economic bias all over the world. The rich get richer and get away with criminal offences. Whilst the poor suffer injustice due to the lack of funds. Additionally, it is such a shame that women and children in these prisons have to suffer such inhuman and undignified experiences. Although, prison systems vary in how they are run. For instance, in the UK, children are taken away from there mothers and are left in the care of a parent figure, because the state is aware that the prison environment would have a negative impact on children, emotionally and mentally. Furthermore, women in prison are offered free sanitary and hygiene products at present. However, ten years ago female prisoners relied on their families and friends to bring them sanitary products. I guess that the UK being a developed country makes a huge difference. Regardless, it is significant to ensure that women’s dignity is promoted in prisons all over the world. Please let us know how we can support these women. Thank you!
P
Well said, I wish the women leaders in government shouldn't take this for granted. They should be the voices of the voiceless women in prison. Instead of parading outside supporting leaders who are after there own personal gains, they should start changing the world of women in prisons. As a man this story has really touched me and I think we should borrow from Western countries, prisons should be another kind of world for the betterment of the society. It should be another possibility to help the vulnerable feel that all is not all but another future is possible. The government should listen to this story and act.
Want to correct something .babies are well taken care of...why go with the baby during time of judgement?why not leave her with your family?something isn't adding up here.
Hi I have a proposal for the same can we work together?
Yes but Holloway prison had horror stories, no wonder it was shut down, prison is prison let's just be each others keeper and avoid wishing people suffering that we can't handle ourselves.
I relate to this story pretty well,My husband got fired from a bank because of a such similar case,Jesus its crazy completely crazy, especially when you know it witch hurting,.............. Banks ! Sorry for all that happened to you, the justice that was denied etc.
The position of a woman Rep was created to come up with policy decisions that improve the life and provide for the needs of a woman. Maybe Lynn can interview them to help us identify the best regardless of the party affiliation.
Those of us who can, let's organize amongst ourselves and be visiting such facilities frequently in order to provide for such basic needs. We cannot just sit and lament but we must do something. This is very very heartbreaking.
@Gathoni Alice, that's a good idea 👍...I second you on that.
Teresa is gorgeous & intelligent 😍❤️Sometimes the enemies of our lives are within us💔

I was in the Banking Industry and I saw innocent Bankers being framed for cases that they had nothing to do with. Those who stole through documentation trail always setup their colleges. Very sad. They had no remorse and had no mercy as they defrauded the banks. Pole Teresa, I recall your case and I knew you were setup.... Listening to your story i realize the reason why you are supporting the women in prison. Keep on the good work Teresa...

I am still stuck at: we know you are innocent but someone has to carry the cross on behalf of the bank! This is horrendous - I can't breath 😭

Lady Teresa, you will continue to excel and shine to the glory of God. Your enemies will continue to decline to nothing. They think they are racing to wealth, but they are racing to destruction, death, and hell. Jesus Christ is your strength and the glory of your latter house will exceed the glory of the former one. Betrayal is everywhere even in marriages, your best friend sleeping with your husband.
I started wondering why people are so evil and almost disowned everybody around me. Evil world we live in
What a testimony. God posted her to a higher mission and she listened. God send her to prison for a purpose and she executed it so well. This goes to show that our plans are not God's plans. Thank you Teresa for being candid and so courageous to speak on what is exactly happening in our prisons ,alot of people are afraid to speak against injustice they sugarcoat malice and discomfort going on behind bars our inmates are going through hell and the time has come that us women need to stand up and fight for better and conducive environment for any inmate. When he clocked 50yrs he just decided enough is enough he could not handle anymore how we manage our correctional services 3. None of us in the family was allowed to join any uniformed forces KDF, Police or prisons. We could only join civil service
Honestly that last bit has taken the life out me... So sad to imagine a fellow human going through that!! No one deserves that kind of degrading not even a criminal. Smh
Absolutely, no one deserves that at all😪

We are placed where we are on purpose John 7:28. Teresa Njoroge, God placed you in that prison for a purpose...He picked you because you are a Hero
When I started watching part 1 the first few mins I was studying Theresa, her body language and I felt like she was holding back... I couldn't put my finger on it. However, as she went on about (15mins or so) I said to myself this woman has been traumatized( this was b4 she talked about the trauma, in part 2). As someone who has experienced trauma you can recognize it in someone else after awhile. She is still healing... She has to remove all the bandages off the wounds, clean the wound and allow the wounds to breath. It will be painful but healing. I can't wait to see where she goes and want she does in life. 🙏🏿

in Kenya there is no justice if your are just any one
This is heartbreaking. She tries so hard to be strong but as she mentioned, the dark shadows of what she went through follows you forever..so traumatizing.
I'm curious for the part two of this story. Seeing how beautiful and healthy you are telling it yourself, I know you have already won and also shamed your enemies.
We should begin by scrapping the women rep position. Redirect that money to other more useful uses because clearly they're not delivering as they should.
I agree 100% why do we need such positions, never have I seen them come help in such situations..they'll only fattening their pockets..sad..
Sad but very true
My father went through the same thing. But growing up and visiting our dad in prison is something that was difficult 😞 You’re such a strong 💪 woman 👩 May God continue lifting you high.
She comes across as highly intelligent ,highly ambitious and very eloquent. Maybe that's why they were intimidated by her success.Sorry that she had to go through such an awful experience because of corruption, greed and lack of humanity. People can be so evil.
These stories teach me a lot in this world and how life can be changed by people we call friends or workmates into a hell of life ,suffering and painful experiences.

I tell u
I have cried!and am so upset! No human being and especially those children with their mothers should go through this ! There needs to be reforms in our prisons that atleast preserves ones dignity,
I remember her story years ago..,going even more stronger..,can't put a strong woman down.
It's shocking the things 'selfish ambition' can do to humanity.
Sometimes we just need to look beyond ourselves and consider or reconsider our choices and decisions in life. The pain and suffering we might cause if only we chose to reconsider.
In the end, whether the perpetrator or victim, when we look beyond 'self' and seek to find what we can do for others, only then can life become better and the world a better place. Until we live for more that 'ourselves', then we can count ourselves blessed and a blessing.
God bless you Teresa. You're indeed a trailblazer and a blessing.
Sorry Teresa it’s very traumatising God will compensate you and them betrayers will pay for it
Lynn this story has made me cry and feel for the women in prison with their children. And also for the age group still having their menstrual periods and are in prison. Is there something that we can do to help. This story has made me shed tears from my heart.
This is unbelievable, and wonder how I can be proud to be a Kenyan. Once somebody is taken to prison it doesn't mean he/she must face that tough life there. We need people who can rise and speak of this boldingly to bring change on this issue. Just to come up with a petition so that we can sign to fight this 😭😭
Same thing happened to my mum here in Uganda 🇺🇬 but many more people are in prison for crimes they never committed

Good people of the world should start go funds to help such people like this lady to sue ND receive fair compensation
Yessss
Such a heartbreaking story happening to a brilliant woman. Life is truly unfair and can be quite nasty. Of all bad things that can happen to someone, betrayal tops the list.
Deja vu! Sad story. I had a somewhat similar experience in the exact same branch, way back in 91. Changed the course of my whole life. A very close colleague got me fired too. So I completely understand where she's coming from
Waaaa! It is obvious that work place had the devil himself. Sooo disturbing!
If i was working in a bank i could have resigned immediately.I also don't entertain friendship in and out of my family n workplace for my own peace.
