The only product I use in my ultrasonic tank for carburetors is a solution of 8:1 distilled water and Simple Green Pro HD which is purple in color. It will not darken your carbs like the regular simple green does. I learned that the hard way that using regular simple green in my tank!
As you have probably found, the heating element is just a supplement as the ultrasonic transducer really heats up the item to be cleaned as well. They are a great tool! It s best to just prepare your solution, set the final temp required and start it up. Within a reasonable time period it should be up to temperature.
I missed ya I really enjoyed the tire repair episode! I'd send it back I have a similar unit and mine heats up awesome something must be out of wack but this was awesome to actually see some different fluids I appreciate the time the video!
Great video, interesting results. I'm not surprised about the heating element not being up to the task, in your situation. I believe the specs say it is a 200 watt heater ang the cleaner and lid are basically a giant heat sink and you're heating 2 gallons of fluid. That is incredibly energy intensive. The heater and transducers are able to heat the fluid fairly well at around 60F (15C) They do now offer a better version with the black panel that has I believe twice the wattage on the heater. Considering the volume of the fluid and the fact that it is not completely insulated, it probably needs more like 1000 - 1500 watts to get the temp up quickly, when in a cold area. If the unit was perfectly insulated with no heat escaping at all, it would take 800 watts for an hour to heat that much water from 10C (50F) to 80C ( 176F)
You’ve discovered what I’ve known for years. Pinesol is AMAZING. You don’t even need to heat it. I don’t ever as I don’t have an ultra sonic that heats. I usually just soak the carbs over night and it takes care of any bs in the carb.
You have to be careful with Dawn and other soaps on alloys like magnesium. I personally use ethanol free gas with 2 stroke oil to clean. In the event you get water in a passage or soap residue it can oxidize and destroy the carb. I use the gas in a plastic jar inside the cleaner with a brick on top. When using heat it can cause o rings and check valves to swell and destroy them. LOve my ultrasonic. It runs 12 hours a day!
I've resorted to unusual methods if heating the fluid as well. I picked up a couple of those clip on coffee cup heaters and clip them to the basket until the temp comes up. Aggravating to say the least but makes it usable.
Thanks for the video, I went out to Dollar General and picked up 2 gallons of Pine Sol yesterday. I ran it at 80C, for about 2 hours, rotating every 30 minute cycle. It wasn't as clean as I wanted and discovered the carburetor I was cleaning was actually distorted by a fire and was garbage, but I wanted to see how well it would clean if I let soak over night. I haven't gone out to the shop to check on it... I think you should open that machine up I bet you will find a wire off your heater or something simple.
I’ve always had pretty good luck with just soaking carbs in vinegar overnight without heating it and then just cleaning it off with a little brake cleaner. It probably would work better hot or in the ultrasonic but it would probably be kind of expensive running that all night. It’s just an idea to try with the accelerator pump part off the bike carb if you’re still struggling with that
Finally got it by applying heat from a small propane torch and smacking it on a flat piece of metal. The heat expanded the aluminum enough that it alliwed all the tiny check ball components to pop out with the shock of slapping it down hard.
Vinegar, lemon juice and Simple Green were all 1 to 1 ratio. Dsh detergent was just a healty dose and Pine Sol was slightly less Pine sol than water due to the jug of pine sol only being slightly more than 3/4 of a gallon instead of a full gallon
Another UA-camr I watch using I think the same brand cleaner he used one of those heating elements like you would use in a tea pot. I'm not sure exactly what it was meant for but basically he plugged it in and put in it with the parts to help get it up to temp.
I just use hot water out of the faucet to fill it up, then add my ratio of cleaning agents that I desire for the parts I'm cleaning.... The hot water out of the faucet gives the heater a "jumpstart", and it doesn't take long to get up to temp.
Great video...! I have the same cleaner.... And yes, the heating function is a joke.. I use a cheap water immersion heater to preheat the cleaning sollution. That works great..
One of the best cleaning fluids I have tried is strait forward Gasoline, some soaps and degreasents attack the aluminium in carbs so its best to do a test if your not sure.
I think flipping the carb around each 20 min session might let your pinesol solution access all the cracks and crevices. Also using a sacrificial unit, how long can you leave a carb in the pinesol?
Before I got the ultrasonic cleaner, I tried soaking some of the motorcycle carb components in straight pine sol for about two days with no visible ill effects
There were a couple of comments about using gasoline so I tried that for a lawn mower carb but was not impressed at all. Friend of mine tried Mean Green cleaner and said it worked quite well
Thanks for the great info! I recently heard that ZEP ultra degreaser is the best so you might give it a go… let us know what you think! Take care and God Bless!
I have the same Chinese ultrasonic cleaner. Mine has zero issue heating up and will actually unfreeze my cleaner in the winter without having to wait forever. I'm guessing your heating element isn't attached to the bottom of the tank like it should be.
On one test, I forgot to turn the heater off when draining it and it left a slight scorch mark on one end of one of the longer tank sides. I would say that jundging by the size of the scorch mark, there should be more that one or a bigger heater.
For maximum effectiveness, put the check valve in the ultrasonic cleaner by itself without the basket. Turn off the heater after it get up to temp. That will give you maximum power to the inducers. Rotate/turn the piece over between sessions.
Before I bought my ultrasonic cleaner, which I use mainly for carburetors, I used to boil the carbs in a pressure cooker on top of my stove with a 50/50 mixture of Pine Sol and water for 30 minutes. Works VERY well that way.... Carbs came out literally looking NEW 👌 EDIT: Make SURE you open some windows, and ventilate your house VERY WELL if you do that though, or the eventuall build-up of Pine Sol smell will get VERY STRONG and end up taking your breath away. I'm SURE its not a good idea to breathe that smell in. It goes away fast with windows open though.
Try buying an immersion heater to heat the liquid up. There are cheap ones and expensive ones. The ones with a thermostat are naturally more expensive and a coffee cup warmer will not be enough considering the volume of liquid in the ultrasonic.

I notice in this video the vehicle is converted to Propane. I am an old propane conversion specialist from Canada. If you have any questions or assistance please feel free to ask. @CaddyMan
I've watched a number of these videos before purchasing a cleaner but unless I am missing it none of you have mentioned the mix ratio. Could you comment on what you used for a ratio'
In my partingvthoughts at the end of video, I say that they are all at a 50/50 ratio except for the pine sol, which was slightly weaker due to the size of the jug That it came in
I’m pretty sure yours has the wrong heating element with one intended for 220v. You see that mistake all the time with soldering equipment from China, but Louis Rossmann was selling premium name-brand Crest Ultrasonic machines and the company kept sending him units with the same manufacturing mistake.
Owning a ultrasonic cleaner for years and a tumbler I will say two things. One always pre heat your cleaning solution before use. Last always start with the least caustic cleaning solution first.
Perhaps, but I think the results are pretty clear. Next time I do a carb for the real deal, it will definitely spend some time in the cleaner upside down.
Perhaps. Have not had any real snow to speak of here in souther Iowa yet. Plus, there is a new wheeling area just a couple of hours to the south of me that I am wanting to go check out if I can get the proper weekend off work
Acids are bad for Aluminum and should be avoided. Use a strong solution of simple green for aluminum. For iron parts dishwasher detergent (powdered) works very well and is also very cheap. You really have to tailor the solution to what type of metal it is you are cleaning so that you don't do damage to the parts.
Have a similar one, heaters seems to be a joke no matter the brand. Gallon of brake clean from auto store should be $25, but my go to now is either gasoline or diesel. Cheap, effective, just leave the heater off and run it for max time. 5 or 6 hours in the ultra is worth it if all you have to do is dust it off with air .
The idea of that volume of gasoline in an electrical appliance makes me cringe! Ovbiously, you wouldnt want to use the heater, but the chance of something going wrong with the rest of the electrics that could cause a spark is a cause of concern, especially considering the dubious quality of these chinese units. Maybe someday I will try it way outside of the building on a long extension cord.
In order water and dish soup. Didn't work well. Then Pinesol, which worked pretty good. Then Lemon juice didn't work that well, but was better than soup and water however it did react to aluminum. The Vinegar wasn't that effective and from personal experience, vinegar can attack some types of aluminum. Then came Simple Green, which we are not told if it was diluted and personal experience even when cut 4 to 1 with water, still reacts with aluminum. Pinesol worked the best, but again, the author didn't tell us if we cut the Pinesol with water or not.
Most of the ultra sonic cleaners do not heat very well. If the ambient temperature is in the 70-80's slightly better.. Typically you heat the liquid and the parts that you are planning cleaning. Setup a box or some container and a small room heater.
Don't bother with the water use the pine-sol straight works way better. Rinse well with water or it will darken the aluminum when left on and exposed to the air.
Yes have a couple of the same ones of ultra sonic cleaners ordered a big one and they ended up sending a small one!!! I called them and told them that they sent the wrong one and would like the size one that I ordered!!! They said no problem they would send one out Wright away!! I asked them if they was going to send a shipping label to send the one that they originally sent!!?? They said no that it wouldn’t be worth the shipping cost to have it shipped back and that I could keep it also!!! When I run mine it will only run as long as the amount of time that I set it to!!! I will run it for max time and max on the temp setting!!! As soon as it goes off I will reset the temp and time to max again!!! I will do it 3 or 4 times!!! Mine seamed to only go up in temp when I had it running!!! I have found that changing the cleaning solution after cleaning what ever I was cleaning after the first cleaning of the items!!! The solutions would definitely be very dirty!!! But after the first cleaning the solution would definitely be down graded and not even half the cleaning solution power!!! I used mine for cleaning carbs also!!! We tried the simple green and purple power and yes they would work but they would leave the parts a slimy slick coating on them!!! But after cleaning everything I always would rinse all the parts off with warm water!!! Yes I would definitely have to use gloves because it would definitely get pretty hot!!! We then baught a gallon of the cleaning solution that they recommended for ultra sonic cleaners and it would definitely work the best but at 20.00$ to close to 30.00$ a gallon and having to change after each thing or a whole carb I only tried a gallon!!! I have also found that the next best thing to clean a carb from regular carb dip that you can buy from a parts store is pure lemon juice and not diluted!!! Although lemon juice will dis color the carbs!!!! Well hopefully that helps out or maybe you have already figured out everything already!!!! And yes lemon juice I always clean everything Wright away and then rinse off with hot water!!! Definitely don’t soak anything to long in lemon juice or it will eat the parts up pretty quickly!!!!
If you put a 40° carb in there...well, pretty much like an ice cube that doesn’t want to melt. Shouldn’t ya start with something that size brought up to at least room temp ? Better to warm it up to near the temp you want to clean it at...
Small engine guy swears by straight gasoline. He just puts it in a container with the gas and puts the container in the ultrasonic cleaner. Says it vastly outperforms any cleaner you can buy.
Vinegar in an ultrasonic ate up my aluminum fuel petcock and some aluminum parts from the fuel door… much more than the lemon juice did for you. So, yeah, vinegar eats aluminum.
What size ultrasonic cleaner is that? Bummer that the heating feature turned out to be a gimmick, maybe yours is defective, but I wouldn't count on it.. These companies tend to have zero concern about misleading their customers, and those shady companies/sellers are getting thousands of sales per month. These platforms have little care whether you're a good seller or not, they will black out listings from good small sellers in favor of bad mega sellers.
The manufacturer know better than us what is right. If the heater is weak the regulation is better. You fill preheated water-chemestry in the ultrasonic. For some parts (historic parts you can not find anywhere) it is better to heat it up slowly. Some parts are not for higher temperatures. If the heating is a gimmick, than a other chinease company is there a sell better heating ultrasonics. The weak heating companys will be soon from the market. But you find no high watt heating. There is a reason. And normally you dont use these device never in a cold environment. By the way = professional mvery big ultrasonics are never switched of (maybe at the weekend). The keep 24 houres a constant temperature. They only switch the ultrasonic on. They have no strong heater inside for that big water volume. They will switch on there gimmick heating and after 1 minute off. Fine regulation of the temperature. Some parts dont like to high temperatures for 10 secounds and than 4 minutes the heating is off.
@@misfittoys8883 I really love the look of that car! I am trying to save up enough for a beater version of that car. Everyone wants an arm and a leg for ones that are pretty rough. I like the coupes as well but the body lines of that car is my favorite. Thanks for that video on cleaning the carbs. I have a 78F250 with a 750 Holley that I am going to clean up. Thanks for answering
Only reason I own that car is I got it way back in 89 when they were still all over the place and fairly cheap. I couldnt even begin to afford one now. Same deal with the early Broncos I have- got them when they were cheap and all over the place
Ever check out project farm ?.. he does product testing for all kinds of stuff. I check out his reviews before heading down a rabbit hole and he won't accept sponsors
Just yank that junk heater out and put in a more reliable heater core in. This video just help me a lot of what oroduct to stay away from at all cost to avoid a headache and wasting my hard earn dollar on a pile of junk.
Couple of things about ultrasonic cleaners. Read the manual. I have the same model and have no issues. Heaters are towards the top, and in the beginning of your video, your water level is lower than the heaters. States in the manual where the water level needs to be. Also, the ultrasonic action will warm the water so just fill up to proper level with hot water and start it up. Another thing is the ultrasonic waves come from the bottom and go up so whatever is facing down will be cleaned the best. With carbs like those, you do one cycle then flip them. Also, the cheap pos basket actually reduces the waves somewhat. I use copper wire and usually suspend what I am cleaning and do not really use the basket. My stuff comes out clean, like new. As for that small check valve, put it in a glass jar with the valve facing down (no air pockets) and add penetrating oil in the jar. Put a tight lid on the jar and have at it for 20 minutes. It will free it up. I honestly love me Vevor.
Interesting stuff. Next time I use mine, I will try the suspension trick. I did end up getting the check ball freed up with an easy application of a small propane torch
Just water and a bit of soap is not enough. And it's a......... dirty as hell carb. Should get one with degas fonction even if i doubt that could clean a filty carb. so don't be too hard on your new aquisition.
I’m glad to see you’re back Ron! I hope all is going well for you and I can’t wait to see what kind of winter projects you got lined up

Does it remove crystallized fuel if it’s been sitting for years?
I had heard a long time ago that pine sol was great for cleaning gas tanks that have been sitting and full of varnish. Never got around to trying it.

Pinesol and simple green both will pit aluminum with prolonged exposure...dont ask me how i know this
turn it on to get the temperature to go to that..its faster..you can have the carberator sitting in it so it cleans double
I alway use pinesol at 100% in my ultrasonic cleaner never misses and you can use it more then once just filter and reuse
Next time I am cleaning a carb for real, I will probably try the Pine Sol full strength
Should have tried putting the carbs in upside down for second twenty minutes?
Perhaps, but I think the results are pretty clear. Next time I do a carb for the real deal, it will definitely spend some time in the cleaner upside down.
Glad to see you are back and always enjoy to see what you’re up to! Are we going to see some winter wheeling next year?
Perhaps. Have not had any real snow to speak of here in souther Iowa yet. Plus, there is a new wheeling area just a couple of hours to the south of me that I am wanting to go check out if I can get the proper weekend off work
What's the ratio of Pinesol to water?
Roughly 50/50 is what I use
try dishwasher pods of dishwasher powder . i saw a gye on yt using that on really carboned up pistons and it took the carbon right clean off.
I brew awesome beer on that burner. All-grain, no kits.
It beats better when the element is on and buzzing away
And once it reaches a temp and is on, it’s not maintaining just getting hotter
Try Purple Power in the ultrasonic.
Contemplating pine sol and cascade pods combined now lol
In order water and dish soup. Didn't work well. Then Pinesol, which worked pretty good. Then Lemon juice didn't work that well, but was better than soup and water however it did react to aluminum. The Vinegar wasn't that effective and from personal experience, vinegar can attack some types of aluminum. Then came Simple Green, which we are not told if it was diluted and personal experience even when cut 4 to 1 with water, still reacts with aluminum. Pinesol worked the best, but again, the author didn't tell us if we cut the Pinesol with water or not.
In Comments OP, mentioned/implied that he added a quarter gallon of water to his 3/4 gal of pine sol
Most of the ultra sonic cleaners do not heat very well. If the ambient temperature is in the 70-80's slightly better.. Typically you heat the liquid and the parts that you are planning cleaning. Setup a box or some container and a small room heater.
have you ever tried paraffin or diesel?
No, not yet
Only 17 faithful viewers. LOL wow that makes me feel special.
You ARE special!!!
Don't bother with the water use the pine-sol straight works way better.
Rinse well with water or it will darken the aluminum when left on and exposed to the air.
I will try that next time.
Try zep citrus. Good and strong but not too much for aluminum.
You should try using Super Clean
You should also really consider using gloves to not have direct contact with brake or carb cleaner.
Missed your shenanigans
Seems like every time I tried making an episode, things went to crap. Kind of a relief finally getting one uploaded again
Pressed like for the cheese niblet. Miss my cats
The heater should work better while the ultrasonic is running
If you put a 40° carb in there...well, pretty much like an ice cube that doesn’t want to melt. Shouldn’t ya start with something that size brought up to at least room temp ? Better to warm it up to near the temp you want to clean it at...
60° C is the best temp to run at.
Small engine guy swears by straight gasoline. He just puts it in a container with the gas and puts the container in the ultrasonic cleaner. Says it vastly outperforms any cleaner you can buy.
I will give that a try, but obviously without using heat!
I’m convinced your Nicolas cage! Or your doing a great impression.
Your ultrasonic cleaner might've taken a long time to heat up if the components you put in it were cold.
Is that a 69 fastback? In the beginning?
Indeed it is
@@misfittoys8883 I really love the look of that car!
Try "Lestoil" if you have it on your area
.
I dont recall ever seeing it but I will keep an eye out for it
Ever check out project farm ?.. he does product testing for all kinds of stuff. I check out his reviews before heading down a rabbit hole and he won't accept sponsors
I will check out that channel. I appreciate channels that dont try to constantly sell you something
i also used diesel fuel but like the gas better.
Zep citrus is what my friend recommended.
Simple green has lye in it and that is what turned it black. Simple green and greased lightning can be used to strip anodizing off.
Windex is a great solution cleaner
Take it in to the house and it might work better
Ron Swanson? is that you?
Just yank that junk heater out and put in a more reliable heater core in. This video just help me a lot of what oroduct to stay away from at all cost to avoid a headache and wasting my hard earn dollar on a pile of junk.
Glad it could help
I did end up getting the check ball freed up with an easy application of a small propane torch
im under the impression that the unit with heat up faster if its vibrating.
that ultra sound isnt any good , as you probably know mine heats up much quicker Velour stuff is hit and miss
From what I gather from other youtube videos/comments, they dont seem to have a very long lifespan
@@misfittoys8883 I use berryman carb dip in it . Just dont breathe the fumes to long lol
First 20 minutes were so depressing lol
I painted the inside of the lid Rubberized undercoating
Interesting idea. Do you feel it makes a big difference?
@@misfittoys8883 It definitely helped
I can't even handle the smell of pine sol if someone uses a diluted amount to mop a floor. That stuff is nasty!
It is definitely strong
Just water and a bit of soap is not enough. And it's a......... dirty as hell carb. Should get one with degas fonction even if i doubt that could clean a filty carb. so don't be too hard on your new aquisition.
Assatone is best
I have that same cleaner, your heater is defective, send it back.
Not worth the hassle at this point. I will just heat up the solution separately. Gets up to boiling fairly quick on the propane burner.
Another person who doesn’t know how to operate an ultrasonic cleaner.
