    Funny story, I had a mechanic who swore by soaking in red vinegar. He used it a couple times and it did fine, then one day forgot one in the soak over night. Came in the next day and I could scrape away chucks of the carb with my finger nail. It was RUINED. LOL! Needless to say, he stuck with chem dip after that. 🤣

    That’s a pretty cool mower. Can sure appreciate something like that after pushing a rusty manual one up and down my grandma’s hilly lawn back in the 70s.

    Ultrasonic cleaners work well for cleaning jewelry, eyeglasses, sunglasses, nail clippers, scissors, and scalpels....
    Surgeons, hygienists, stylists, and watch repairers use them, too. If you are on the fence about getting one, it has many uses....

    I was thinking “70 degrees?” That’s nothing. And then I remembered you are using Centigrade😀

    Ultrasonics are INDEED a GAME CHNGER , anybody on the fence about the purchase ...BUY ONE . As Mick proves w this video , they are superb !
    I purchased a 15ltre unit almost a year ago now & wished i would have bought WAY sooner . Purchased a larger unit as i do Snowmobiles , Motorcyles , etc....aside from small equipment , larger capacity is crucial when dealing with " racked " carbs .

    The one thing I wanted on a ultra sonic cleaner was a drain tap, ended up with a 6l one. I fill the tank with tap water and put the bits I want clean in jars with the cleaning solution. I’ve used all sorts of lotions and potions as cleaning fluids but have settled on Allendale carb cleaner. I find it does a great job. The Ultra sonics are a great bit of kit to have, mine gets used to clean rifle brass too

    We used to put our bits in a cut down coke bottle with thinner and sit that in the sonic which had just plain warm water in it, you can pop items in and out without burning fingers 😊👍🇮🇪
    Used less thinners too

    I use a large plastic mayo container holding my mix, and just fill up the ultrasonic cleaner with regular tap water, it's easy to use, and clean up is a breeze, and got the large plastic mayo container idea from small engine saloon, it was a game changer for me.

    If you have an old metal tank and problems with rust in the carb, you should put a filter on your gasoline hose to ensure it doesn't get to the carb.

    • @themowerman
      @themowerman  5 місяців тому

      No the tank was fine ... And so was the fuel .. I checked it

    • @TigRdk
      @TigRdk 5 місяців тому +1

      Ok, had the same issue with an old outboard 2-stroke where rust came from the gastank and clogged the carb repeatedly until I placed a filter on the hose.. Eventually changed the tank to plastic.

    A wonderful piece of kit to have in the shop Mick and love the hat by the way. Basically, if your using carb cleaner at $16 Cdn per can on a daily basis it does not take long when you purchase an ultrasonic cleaner to recover the cost and after that it is all profit eh! Here at EP we have been using ZEP Orange along with many other degreasing solutions with great results. A little pish posh of that white thinners sounds like a stellar idea mate. Now time for some bangers and mash!

    HI Mick.
    I love my ultra sound cleaner, but it isn't perfect.
    Often the rubber tip on the float needle needs a squirt of carb cleaner and a rub with a finger to remove the last bit left.
    I literally have a day most weeks which I put aside for carb cleaning. I use water and a squirt of washing up liquid, which makes a change from the smell of grease and oil.
    I start off with making a coffee and using the left over hot water to heat up the cleaner as it's quicker than the heater.
    I use a coffee makers grounds holder for the small bits, but I like the tea strainer.
    Heat is important as I often say I'm boiling a carb as I've tried cleaning at about 16 degrees, (didn't solve the problem) and at then at 60 degrees, even more muck came out and problem solved.
    They do need regular cleaning out, as I was surprised how much comes off a few carbs
    So I also agree "Hell yeah", they are worth it!

    I have 3 ultrasonic cleaners, 10L in my side shed, a 15L in my front shed, and a 6L in my mobile van, I use my mix in all of them, and never had a problem, and never met a carb my mix couldn't clean and make work like new.

    If you use my mix, it will save you lots of money, number one, use a large mayo container for the mix. OK, fill the ultrasonic cleaner with straight tap water hot or cold doesn't matter, the action of the cavitation of the ultrasonic cleaner will heat it up no problem. 20 minutes per cleaning cycle. Now the most important part, the mix, in the large plastic mayo container, mix this, 25% white distilled vinegar, 25% simple Green "PURPLE" make sure it is the purple, cause the regular green doesn't work well, the purple is concentrated, then 50% distilled water, ie baby water, do not use tap water as the minerals in tap will will mess up a carb, now only leave the aluminum carb in the mix for no longer then 1hr, as it will turn the aluminum carb black because or the vinegar, if you do what I say, you will never use carb spray again. Trust me my % of mix works perfectly, then rinse with water, and blow out with compressed air, just be safe with the level of air you use, then when you are done, just empty the mix back into the mixing container, as you can use it up to 50x.

    Love my ultrasonic cleaner. I run all my carbs through it. Quick and easy. All i use is some Dawn dish soap work awesome. You should remove the gaskets and rubber seals out are the heat will distort them.
