Great advice: I am big on Transferable skills. Most of the transferable skills revolve around soft skills. I landed 4 high paying jobs in my lifetime with zero experience. Great video
Such a great answer to a very common question! I remember trying to figure out my career path in my 20s! Little did I know that I'd have 3 different jobs in completely different niches in just 5 years!
I learned a great tip the other day that you should go to the job description you aspire to be in and write down all the skill sets necessary for the role. Then, go out and learn the skillsets yourself through books or online courses. You can also ask to do this work for free on the side so you can create clout and experience.
Absolutely! Make a list of the hard and soft skills and basically reverse-engineer the process. Don't forget to liberally drop those keywords and keyphrases in your resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile.
Your first tip about thinking about questions to ask yourself when creating your avatar target is a great starting point for people in their twenties. Especially, the detail you gave into the questions for them to ask themselves when applying this first step. I know with everything we learn in life it takes practice to reach perfection, not just learning facts alone. My younger self would have appreciated your video before becoming a mom.
Glad this tip resonated with you. This actually applies to plenty of people who I work with are actually already parents and they eventually do consider making a switch especially once the children get older and they have more time on their hands.
This was such a good step by step video. As an employer too, we definitely look if a person has got that great soft skills. Agreed very much with what you've taught!
I was in the same boat in my early 20's and I love the way you advocate free lancing as a way to build up a portfolio this video will help so many people. Thank you for posting this :)
Hey Dr. Tam, really great video! I like how you did such a great job detailing all aspects of the job target. I think it's always helpful when we can get really clear on our goals, but especially if our goal requires applying for a job, we don't want to be caught off guard. The whole process was laid out really well and I think it likely fills in a lot of gaps for people going through this process!
Wow you are doing a great service for us millennials! I remember struggling trying to find the right career path in my early 20’s. This information would have been very beneficial for me to have then. Great video! ☺️
What are you doing right now to get more experience?
It is the biggest hustle to get a job without experience. Great video for all young people to watch.
Totally. Getting that first job is always the hardest but there are so many ways to do it.
Good point. Hard skills can get your career started, but you need soft skills to move up the ladder!
Absolutely

I always learn so much about the corporate world. It's super interesting and I have never worked for anybody except myself.
