Amazing stuff :^)

  • @filipjecz
    @filipjecz 4 роки тому +416

    Is it just me or her talking a lot, jumping from topic to topic, talking with rich and vibrant vocabulary is some sort of defense mechanism? Every time Dr. K. pressed gently on a serious issue, she immediately ran away into "storytelling" territory where she talked and talked and in the same time, mentally separating herself from emotions and feelings. It felt like Dr. K was chasing a bunny through a complicated maze, and every time one would think that Dr. K. "had" her pinned against the wall she managed to get away from his grasp. And when he finally "had" her during meditation, calmed her down and had her focused on one hard memory she was legitimately scared.
    I know jackshit about psychology but I don't think she had dealt with everything on an emotional level. Her brain processed everything, she definitely put a lot of thought into her past, her abuse, her papa dying, her recent cheating, but I don't think she's emotionally ready to deal with everything she lived through. It's good that she's seeing a therapist, she will definitely need some help with that.

    • @VerbalLearning
      @VerbalLearning 4 роки тому +52

      It could be a defense mechanism, it could also be that she has so many years of unproccessed thoughts and emotions all bottled up that whenever she does open up, the dam kinda bursts and it all comes flooding out at once, thus making it very scattered, unfocused, rambly and a bit chaotic. It's also possible that because focusing in on one memory makes her scared as you put it, she then has to move quickly from topic to topic as to avoid lingering in one place and feeling that fear, which is understandable.

      @@alfreddelatourquipenche8287 i dont think that holds true for every adolescent though, i feel like very few teens or whatever go into their sex life with the amount of info needed for it to be, uh, graceful. usually it's awkward. and i mean obviously the main point of sex ed is to teach kids about safe sex, but i think it could also help decrease awkwardness arising from sexual misinformation, or just lack of information, and i think that'd be especially helpful for people with vaginismus, because i'd imagine young men that aren't informed about that would be weirded out and it would just be a bad experience. maybe that sort of thing isn't worth spending much time on, but if there's gonna be sex ed lessons anyway, might as well briefly cover the bases of some common sexual conditions, because as kate said it's fairly common, some estimates say as many as 6% of women experience it

    In case anyone is in some sort of doubt about the dementia part, that part is so accurate. My own grandad went through it, and my brother and mother are working in aged care (70% of the facility have dementia) and I visit to help them sometimes. Yeah, families can be torn apart by it.
    The best friend grand dad breakdown I've personally seen twice, some of them forget the people they see everyday and I've had the same story about my real name about a hundred times. Its heart breaking to see someone just forget everything about themselves.
    And its not forgetting temporarily, they lose the memory permanently. I've seen people forget their spouse's face, and talk to them about them without knowing why the spouse is crying.
    Dementia is fucked up, if you think she wasn't being genuine about that, I'm gonna say you never had someone have this kind of breakdown in front of you. This is her breaking down, even if its not the media depicted way, in this I can say she is honest.

    I can relate to her "depersonalisation". When I got too much going on and feel like things are slipping out of my control I kinda just check out and cruise along.
    It doesn't make anything better or less urgent, but I can ignore it easier until pressure gets too much and I feel like I swallowed hot lead, or whatever I was ignoring catches up with me and bites me in the ass.
    Can be really tough to get out of a rut like that but I'm getting better at forcing myself to do unpleasant things that need to get done. Even doing smaller stuff like cleaning etc helps me stay ontop of more important things like taxes, work, relationship maintenance or physical health.

    • @Fahad-21
      @Fahad-21 4 роки тому +2

      For me, depersonalization is like when I do certain things, and convince myself that someone else did it, not me. Like I had times in my life where I would act completely opposite to my values, as if I were acting for a different life and not my own. So even though it's messed up, it's still an actual thing that can happen to some. It also makes people feel wrongly justified to do something wrong, just because "it's not me that's doing, it's another side of me.
      I guess an easier way to explain this is in acting, when you play certain parts, you get too emotionally into the part. You become an entirely different person in that moment. And somethings you just feel in that moment because you are supposed to feel it, not because you necessarily do(example: losing a loved one in a play that you are part of and acting that part out). That's what depersonalization feels like to me.
      I worry that this kind of personality is sociopathic and detached though.

    First things first *WATCH THE WHOLE VIDEO BEFORE GOING IN THE COMMENTS SO YOU DONT GET INFLUENCED*
    At first this video was really hard in the beginning for me to watch.
    I knew the news about her and everything she just said acted and did just pissed me off.
    I went in already with pre conceived notions and really thought she was trying to justify what she did.
    But after the video I feel no longer hatred but I guess understanding.
    And it was really good that Dr.k did this one without knowing anything about the situation , because he could speak with her effectively.
    Now I wonder about myself how I can help someone when I already have certain notions and conclusions formed about them. Gonna do some thinking on that.
    Thanks for this Dr.K

    I realized that I truly hope she continues to receive excellent therapy, and learn how to process all of the awful things she survived because of one bone-chilling question I ended up wondering about in regards to her go-to defense mechanism of depersonalizing, disassociating, and deflecting from having to authentically process her triggers for pain, sadness, anxiety, and fear via laughter or jokes. It’s reportedly common that sexual abusers will trick or manipulate their victims, especially during the acts or moments of abuse, to make light of or manipulate them into expressing a reaction or emotion that does not reflect back onto them as the abuser the horrific reality of their act they’re committing in the moment. So, my heartbreakingly sad question is, did her abuser train/groom her to react as if her moments of torture/abuse should be funny or something to laugh about with them as opposed to awful and painful for her? Considering that possibility chilled me to the core of my soul. If not, and either way, I hope she achieves true healing.

    Hearing about her past was very disturbing… my heart goes out to her. I knew something wasn’t right the moment the infamous “news” broke out over a year ago and her reaction wasn’t shame or to hide like most girls, but she just “accepted” it. Like the way she reacted to everyone hating her was someone that thought so lowly of themselves in the first place that they thought they deserved all the hate, which isn’t normal. If one thinks that they’re “dirty” or unworthy of love at a young age, they will typically go in a self destructive path later in life. Because Kate was abused as a young girl by a man close to the family, she is unable to tell the difference between a good and bad guy and chooses unwisely. All of the men that Kate got involved with, I think she wants someone to love her because she is completely incapable of loving herself. She completely gave up on that idea long ago. This, coupled with the fact of her destroyed self concept (thinks she is “impure” due to sexual abuse as a child), the fact that she (like most broken women) think that the only way men will stay with her is through sex (even though she herself doesn’t even enjoy it) she is willing to let boys use her body if it means the boy will stay with her because she is terrified of being left alone. I saw in this interview the scared little six year old girl that still thinks that the sexual abuse she suffered was all her fault. Kate doesn’t need boyfriends, she needed a real friend. And I don’t think she has any. I think a lot of the boys that tried to get involved with her were just guys that were just orbiting around her in hopes of dating her under false pretenses of wanting to be “just friends.” I think this incident was one biggest examples of shameful misogyny on both genders. Meme videos, Carson fanboys rallying, I remember pokimane smirking at Kate’s “demise” when this all went down. It was just all so disgusting. I hope this girl finds the help she needs.

      That's kind of naive to think, what if she's just straight up evil and you don't know. I guess it doesn't matter to you because she's pretty or has a cute personality.

    Very interesting video and I respect you for treating her like a friend...giving her a save space to talk. When this all started I disliked her because she came across like this person who uses people to get famous but as this drama continued, I kinda got annoyed at how much this was blown out of proportion and the insane amount of hate... I could see that she wasn't cheating because she thinks she is extremely attractive or something but she has deeper issues... And I respect her for talking about it. I'm not excusing her actions just by the way... that's still horrible.

    Dr. K, at 1:52:55 you said you need to process for a second because you are feeling overwhelmed. What are you doing in those moments to help yourself overcome those feelings?
    I think this was a very good interview to show how even social media influencers, and entertainers are people too. I was quite surprised but also happy that Kate was able to share as much as she did about her life, how she felt about certain events, and also how she overcame them. I try not to judge others just from hearing one perspective as many things happened to me in my life as well, however I will admit it is easier when it is breaking news about some person on the internet I've never met before. I did judge Kate when I first learned about her and the incident but until now I didn't get to hear her side of the story and just sort of glanced at headlines and the such. Having Kate in this interview be as open as she was, was probably the most eye opening evidence to me that streamers are people too. You said it was okay to judge but why is it okay?
