As an aspiring actor while it initially I found it believable and under a high stress situation in the other side yes it is, I found some flaws, firstly Lyle’s crying was off, felt forced, secondly I couldn’t hear Erik at all and the fact that Lyle didn’t get Erik on The phone is also suspicious. The dispatchers repetition of question was off, they kept asking the same questions over and over again and if I had just come home to my parents being dead, I would get very angry that they didn’t hear me the first 3 times. Overall the call felt, off, we know it was staged which does explain this to me but, yea, anyway hope you liked my insight.

A retrial won't change the fact that Lyle premeditated the murders, used his college roommate's stolen ID to purchase the shotguns, concealed the guns, created an alibi, and the two of them sneaked up and killed their parents. A retrial won't change the fact that they spent millions of dollars in the six months following the murders and showed no remorse until they were on the stand at trial. Lots of people go through abuse, but not everyone chooses murder.

If public opinion can be in Gypsy Rose’s favor… I don’t see why it can’t be in favor of the Menendez Brothers too. I truly believe they suffered greatly at the hands of their parents, especially their father. And planned or not, their crime was truly their only escape from the real monster in their life. If we took away all the money and wealth the family had and just look at them as people, we’d be reminded that people are complex beings. Maybe they spent so much money so fast because they were just trying to get rid of it. Who really knows. Maybe they don’t even know why they acted the way they did following the murders. Maybe they felt relieved to be free of their father.. and then the guilt finally trickled in.
Either way, I doubt these men would harm anyone else ever again, and I believe they’ve served their time. They’ve spent 30 years paying for trying to wipe away 20 years of trauma. I say… if Gypsy can get out and live her life… why can’t they? They’ve definitely served way more time and have shown to be different people. Truly. They are advocates for abuse victims, they want to fix a broken system. I think that’s honorable. But maybe that’s just me 🤷🏼‍♀️

Gypsy’s abuse at the hands of her mother is easier to uncover due to technology, which was lacking in the 1980s. Not saying abuse didn’t happen, just with the advances in technology, it’s easier to prove when you have pictures, emails, texts, blogs, etc. The Menendez brothers just have their word and the heresay of others, so it becomes an uphill battle for them compared to Gypsy Rose.

    • @redmustangredmustang

Gypsy Rose didn't STAB her mom, her boyfriend did and he's serving life without parole. She was smart and took a second degree murder charge and got to serve her time. I am no way saying I support Gypsy being out of prison nor am I a fan of hers but her case and the Menendez brother's case are very different. She wasn't found guilty for killing her mother. I guess her boyfriend did it? She was an accomplice? I am not sure what she was charged with but the Menendez brothers admitted to killing their parents, there was evidence of them admitting to it and they were found guilty for murder. I am just glad they were not sentenced to death. I personally don't believe in that. At the end of the day, it wasn't self defense. Their parents were on the couch watching TV or sleeping. They planned it. It was murder. This case though, if what the brothers were saying was true, the abused tend to be turned into abusers. Victims turn others into victims. The murders happened in a time where people didn't openly talk about abuse and trauma. It was normalized back in the day for parents to use violence as a means to discipline. The brothers were adults at the time and could have reported their father, could've packed up and moved away. They could've gotten away from the abuse. They chose to take their parent's lives and go on a spending spree. I'm sure they felt free and could live the lives of luxury they felt they were entiled to and that could very well be the reason for what they did. I truly believe they killed their parents for both reasons, the s*xua1 abuse and for the money they'd get for doing it. They would've been free from their father and set for life in the lifestyle they were raised in. All in all, a sad story either way you see it.

  • @zotha

I challenge anyone to view the testimony about this abuse from the brothers and still claim it's all lies. It's so visceral and raw, no one is that good an actor under oath in a court. It should not be legal to make a film about a real-life crime without the consent of the victims (and families) involved in the real story. Especially if said victims are not being donated to by the director or having the profit of the movie shared with them. It’s a different story if they say yes or it is publicly known that these people are okay with their story being retold in such a way, but otherwise I don’t think it should be allowed.

Public sentiment was that they were lying about the abuse. Now, there's a lot more that believe there was abuse. I think the kid from Menudo implicating Jose is extra evidence. I agree, Back then, even when I was a kid. Abuse was a *taboo and shameful. Greed and Getting it ALL was plastered on tv 📺 . Also there was a lot of victim blaming and hush hush when it came to familial SA. Now with all the SA CSA and traffi€ing cases coming out, and people finally getting genuinely represented. It’s good to look back on old cases and see if past cases did not consider this as a MAJOR thing that could change what kind of verdict is carried out. Child SA can break a kids mind and fracture them, PTSD, DID and psychosis and psychotic schizophrenic type disorders, and BPD highly lightly consequences of this. I’ve seen it many times. This case just happened to be with rich people. When live crime hearing and the media were “trending” and bloodthirsty media took it as their time to shine and sensationalise. Prior, this stuff was usually hush hush too.. can’t have rich people having the gang life can we. Anyways I like your point. Yes different perspectives indeed but sooo needed!

  • @mewgiah8057

The casting of the show is insanely good. Unfortunately Ryan Murphy chose to re-victimize these brothers by adding an unnecessary incest plot. Which is all the more horrible when the courts tried to insinuate that they couldn’t have been abused because they were gay and liked it.
There has been too much that has come out that proves these brothers were victims of years of violent sexual abuse. Their father was a monster and their mother knew it was going on but kept silent.
I don’t condone their murder. But I also believe the brothers had a psychological break and truly believed this is what they had to do to escape the abuse.
Even their reasoning for killing their mom reflects that psychological breakdown.

Its a messed up story all around, but I think despite the brutality of the murder and their behavior after, they were victims. But to them, there wasnt. They were scared, they were traumatised and they wanted to be free. As Kris mentioned, back then men weren't really considered for their trauma after expriencing r-pe or s-xual ass-ult. So, had they been women, 2 daughters, would they be facing the same charges? Would they been seen as vulnerable, terrified women who just wanted a way out from the cycle of ab-se they had to endure? Its a really interesting concept, wondering if their case would have ended the same if they had just been the opposite gender. And, would the judges on the case have felt more sympathy if they were women? Who knows
