What are some of your favourite ways to record audio on the DJI Pocket 2? Thankfully with the Pocket 2 we have several audio options, unlike the OG Osmo Pocket.
Hi Dave, I need your advice, please help me. I've got DJI pocket 2 camera. What is the best setting/modes for filming sport games? It might be sounds stupid but when I tried to film my son's soccer game I couldn't get any good video. The gimbal rotation is not quick enough to follow the players. Also when you start recording the gimbal tilting kinda down. I have to recenter (double click) the gimbal. I'm curious is there any way you can disable the gamble stabilization so it will stay steady. Thanks.
@@shlomogur6969 Hey there, yes you can do a few things. MAke sure your gimbal is set to slow follow in the settings and not fast follow. This will smooth out and slow down the gimbal movement. Also make sure you keep your movements slow. When I film my daughter playing soccer I make sure I make very slow pans when she runs by. You can also look the gimbal if you need to, if you press and hold the right mode button beside the record button it should lock the gimbal movement, this may help. Most times I do not lock the gimbal. Good luck, I hope this helps.
I've been so curious about the set up of a shotgun on the pocket 2. I couldn't figure out how to place it, so I appreciate your cut aways! I still am not entirely sure how its mounted but the side makes SO MUCH sense.
I think you can monitor the audio with the 3.5mm jack on the do-it-all handle if you're using the wireless. That helps take the guess work out of the audio (if you remember head/ear phones). Built-in speaker lets you playback and hear the audio as well - certainly good enough to realize whether the mic was switched on or not. I always like to do a short framing/lighting/audio test clip each time I setup. The overlooked aspect of audio in the video world is the signal level. Dynamic audio level (aka compression) keeps you from getting distorted audio, but also flattens things out in a way that you might not want. I suspect that the external microphone inputs don't do this, but the internal microphones do -- but I don't know for sure. I record guitar videos and just record the audio on my DAW and sync that with the internal mic when editing, just so I know that nothing messed with the audio (and of course my studio mics sound better). At some point soon I'll try routing that audio line signal to the Pocket 2 audio input and see how that works. Pro gear will certainly give you the ability to adjust the mic signal level, but that comes with the responsibility to make sure you don't clip.
Thanks Mark, wow you know your audio. Being able to monitor the mic is great, especially just as you mentioned to at least know you decent sound. The Pocket 2 has come a long way with audio, still not great, but so much better. Do you use the Pocket 2 to record the video for your guitar videos?
Thanks very in-depth explanations. Weighing whether to fetch the Dji pocket 2 + external mic or a more conventional cam+mic. I am impressed with the built in gimball, it seems amazing and the dji2 is easy to use. Battery is said to be a con.
Did you hear the clicking/buzzing sound when you used the Rode Videomicro? Because I have a VideoMic GO ii and get the same exact noise. I suspect it has something to do with the plug-in power as when you were using the Rode Videomic Pro Plus there wasn't any. I even tried a shielded cable but it did not help.
Hello Dave thank you for this video. I have several questions please I have a dji osmo pocket 2 and I would like to add 2 smartlav microphones Boya by M1 in same time to make interviews . Do you think it is possible with rode sc3 and rode sc6 systems? Thank you for your answer 😉👍
Thanks for the very helpful video. I'd like to go with the Rode Video Mic but I'm confused with how it connects to the DJI Pocket 2, both the hardware to hold it on and the connections required. I'd be very grateful if you could tell me. Thank you.
Ya it's tough to attach a shotgun mic to the Pocket 2. I use the Rode Micro and it seems to work well. My other slightly larger mics always seem to get in the way when I am shooting. I have been happy with the internal mics, especially compared to the original Pocket. I use the internal mics when I shoot walking and talking shots for my other UA-cam channel, which is a camping channel. It seems to work well.
So your saying I can purchase any other mic and connect it to the pocket 2? Is it all mics can or certain wireless mics can? Also what might be the best wireless mic to use if I’m creating content for my self independently but also I make content for my old high school football team where I make hype videos if I wanted to mic them up for a hype video what’s a good mic I could do that with small is the preferred idea?
If I was filming a football team and I wanted some action shots or shots of speeches or huddles I would just use the camera mic, making sure the audio doesn't get too loud and clip. If you can put a lav mic on a player that would give you the best audio from that player but if you want just general audio, the camera mic does a decent job, or some kind of shotgun mic. As far as the other mics goes, as long as you can connect it to the camera you should be able to use it. I have used several mics. One issue is to make sure if the mic needs to be powered or not, some mics need a battery in them or they will not work properly. Good luck with you videos, I would love to check out your football hype videos!
I have the do it all handle and wireless mic. Bought lapel lav mic from UK. Worked much better. Now the lapel cords mic broke. An entire presentation no sound. :(. Back to just the pocket 2 mic again. What USA lav mic to you recommend?
Hey, Dave!!! Here's a question, bro. Do you know what is the best wireless mic volume settings for restaurant vlogging? I tried to record a video with it and I get a lot of ambient noise in my audio. You have a great channel. Saludos desde México.
Thanks Dany, ya restaurant setting is tough for audio no matter what mic you use. Normally I would use a wireless lav mic and I would try to find a quieter spot where the most noise was coming behind me so that my body is protecting the mic from the loudest noise. Were you using the wireless lav for this?
Hi Dave can I run a shotgun mike like the Rode videomic go II off the wireless mic module? it works well enough with a lav mike but not sure if it will drive something more substantial
Hi, I'm a high school teacher and I'm trying to find a setup that I can use to record my lessons. I walk around a lot and wonder how the tracking would hold up in a classroom setting. I also often turn and face the board when I'm writing so it would lose sight of my face. I would probably use the wireless mic to record my explanations but would like to have student responses recorded as well. Would the Pocket 2 be a good choice or would you recommend something else?
Daniela, I used to be a teacher myself. I believe that the pocket might not be the right choice for the reasons you've mentioned. I'm not sure what you would use the recording for but I have an idea. You may want to try the DJI action 3 (just out), place it somewhere in the classroom on a tiny tripod or a clip mount where all your movements will be in the shot (it's pretty wide angle). You will need a wireless system and a lavalier mic (even cheap ones give you good results) What you can do with this is the following. You can record in 4k and later in the post you can crop and zoom to the areas that you want to highlight (blackboard or yourself) If your output is 1080, you can zoom in from 4k video 4x crop which is decent zoom. I hope it helps.
Ya I agree Barry, it is decent but I do find the wireless mic does sound a bit muffled and I get some more static hits on it than I would like. Still good, but not great.
@@DavidDavies I agree that the wireless mic is not as good as the wireless go. I use it with a lapel mic. Overall, I’m disappointed with the p2. I also get some weird over saturated image on 4K 60. I still need to play some more with it. Thx for the vid.
I am using this camera since about 5 months but i have 2 problems. 1st there is January firmware upgrade which i cant download .App dont see it. 2nd problem audio issues .Just like that trying to locate where is problem .
i picked up the pocket 2 combo - trying to get the best sound as well. Thanks for yer suggestions. I have a Sennheiser avx system with the mke2 mic - that I would love to use with the pocket 2- (the mic that is) - i know the pocket 2 ya need a TRS mic - i thought mine was but the jack is a little wiggly in the socket. Is there an adapter I could use? Anyone? Merci.
Hey Kevin, I don't use the pocket 2 combo very often, I use the pocket 2 with the original audio adapter, it works really well. When I have used the combo with the mic options I didn't have any wiggle problems, I would have thought it would work with the Senheiser system? Do you hear the sound cracking up when the connector wiggles?
@@DavidDavies hey Dave - I’m not using the whole Avx system - just the mic - because it has a interlock on the tip it doesn’t really engage in the 3.5 jack - I guess if I secure it with a rubber band it might but was looking for a proper adapter which I was lot able to find in time so I just bought the micro shot gun from senheiser.

For recording walking videos (urban places) on pocket 2, what focus mode is better: AFS or AFC? Thanks
for walking I would go with AFC, it does a decent job of keeping everything in focus.
can you use more than one wireless lav mics?
Hi can i use my rode wireless go 2 with pocket 2 without the do it all handle?
I have no volume on my videos with this pocket 2??
Is it possible to record with the wireless mic and a shotgun at the same time??
