    I remember I was 9 yrs. old had a paper route. I lived in Pompano bch. Florida. I saved all my money wanting a mini-bike. Saved 200 dollars that was a lot of money back then. I went to Uniroyal bought a green 3 1/2 horse clinton minibike for that 200 bucks I had. It did 50 mph. God I was in heaven..

    This is what I have found as I have installed several preditor engines on similar mini bikes from the 2 or 3 manufacturers that HF uses. Meaning there is a standard and a hemi version. So far I have managed to get a top speed of 58 ~ 59 mph in their stock version, all by fiddling with the gear/sprocket sizes. What I also discovered is that after it maxes out on RPMs the valves simply start to float meaning the engine has hit it's limit. From that point no amount of modifications will increase the power unless you install lighter valves,and stronger valve springs. Once you do that you can you go on to purchase all the other go fast aftermarket parts. If done correctly the bike can hit 80 mph, and I'm almost there.

    Hey, just a tip, a large reason the stock rod blows up on the 212 is due to not enough oil entering the linkage with the crankshaft. Maybe drilling a hole on the conrod would allow oil to seep into it, giving it similar lubricating properties as the billet rod.

    • @Mroswaldo16
      @Mroswaldo16 10 місяців тому

      Im going to try polishing the stock rod & add another hole to help it lubricate. I blew a billet rod, not even 2 month old, my 212 has cam on (7500rpm target) & ported heads, flat top piston .570 & have super low gearing for launch, topped at 52mph with a 12/70 gearing. Was at a meet & their was a long maybe 2-3 mile straight street so was on full throttle for some time & engine just shut off, didnt even hear a bang noise that it hit something. Piston is clean no sign it hit the valves too. So im thinking the issue was maybe low oil & caused the rod to heat up. I normally take engine apart with bike tilted enough so it doesnt spill when i remove the front cover & i saw it was like half way.
      It was a monster tho, hella launched hard. Building it again but rod is a bit expensive lol but wondering if its good, i dont want another blown rod, this time will check oil.

I'd go the other way if I could get quieter muffler and lose some top end. Unless you live around country roads your not goin 50mph very much anyways. Likely get up to speed and slow down after a few seconds randomly.

    I’m curious as to what kind of mileage the bikes get as they get modified too! Mpg stock then mods…..im thinking they might actually improve! It might be easier to check the mileage by quart than mileage per gallon…save you some time! You could rig up a small tank and just hang it on the frame with a hook and baling wire with a piece of clear fuel line…..what do you think? I’ve always wanted to know how far these minis could go on a tank anyway!

Reason I’m asking is in case of an EMP, these minis might be the only thing we could get around on! And I wonder if the electronics would survive the pulse, cause the electrics are so rudimentary and still very robust. Thanks for getting back to me. I’m thinking about building my own bike adult size kinda like the groundhog. I’m sure you’ve seen it on utube. Comfort would be much improved for adults on a bigger bike. At 14:40 flywheel 8° advance pre-installed/off the shelf. Completely understand where your going. Now, here me out. How about cam timing, when changing cam out? Dont cam manufacturers sometimes have a little advance made into them as well? Whether regrind or new billet?

    • @sidewayzmike
      @sidewayzmike Рік тому

      See where I am going? I'm basically taking this videos timing principles education, and trying to add some info. I'm coming from automotive principles. So, moving the powerband/peak hp or tq observed at different rpm throughout the range. Ignition timing can manipulate peak hp at different rpm. Also, cam timing too.
      I don't have much experience using a degree wheel/reading cam cards/checking valve/piston clearance with putty/etc etc.
      That's probably why my car project's engine build, where I installed a schrick camshaft "straight up", choosing to skip degreeing the cam.
      I think it was a mistake, and I probably left some untapped hp on the table. My motor never had a strong idle performance, but upstairs (peak 7k rpm fuel cut) it made all its hp.
      I didn't like my results in the end. Kept dreaming of tearing it all down someday, and really get into the "meat n potatoes" of playing with cam timing, using an adjustable cam gear, and recording max advance/retard degrees, that way I'd know what is simply too much/dangerous/risk of valve to piston contact.

    • @sidewayzmike
      @sidewayzmike Рік тому

      Again, 4 stroke engine principles apply, whether it's a 12 valve bmw straight 6, or a single piston lawn mower engine.

    • @Black66
      @Black66  Рік тому +1

      The flywheel that I used has around 18 degrees of timing. The sweet spot on these little engines is about 32 give or take depending on the setup. Most billet wheels come with about 32 degrees of timing. I could have gotten away with more timing on this one.
      This setup is for the average person throwing this together in the garage with minimal tools. Inexpensive simple and easy.
      Definitely could degree in the cam but this wasn't in the scope of this video. Thanks for watching!

I have a cc100x with a stage 1 predator 212 hemi(jetted carb, intake, pipe, ziptied governer) but it only does around 35 as its top speed. • @Black66
      @Black66  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, It will work on the 224. The reason it rocked back and forth was the 7 degree flywheel key . It lets the flywheel move so you can rotate it forward to get the 7 degrees of additional timing.
