Essential Mini Bike Mods | CT200 Performance Parts

- The Coleman CT200 (and other stock mini bikes) are great for putting around mild terrain, but if you want to get serious about off roading or racing your mini bike, these are the performance modifications we heavily recommend. We're installing a CT200U torque converter kit for off-the-line acceleration and engine braking for steep declines, removing the 196cc engine's governor, and adding a Coleman mini bike performance kit to let the engine breathe more freely at high RPM to increase horsepower.

I'm 68 years old and if anyone would have told me I'd be sitting here watching a mini bike/go cart channel and enjoying the heck out of it, I'd have said they were crazy but here I am 😃✌️👍
Nothing wrong with that, im 58 and thinking about buying a minibike just to have something to tinker with 👍.
@@congerscott6064 I have a huge garage full of projects so I never get bored. There is something very fulfilling about fixing and/or creating.
@@JamesCouch777 i couldn't agree more 👍.
@@congerscott6064 got into mini bikes so I could learn more in depth about engines and how to work on them. I would highly recommend it I’ve learned a ton!
@@PsychoticAnarchist69 it's a lot of fun, i just got a old "taco" mini bike made in California in the 60s im restoring, awesome project and hobby 👍🏆.
You guys make this old timer feel young again. In fact, I just used your coupon and placed an order. Gonna dig out the old mini bikes one more time. 50 years of riding...greasy side up 6 times. Only felt the last one, still feel it. All the gear all the time. You are the funnest fabricators around. Love it
geoffreyjones2000 thanks. Good luck on the mini bike
Enjoyed this vid!!! Best part was the slide-out!!! Guys, I gotta tell you, once minbikes get into your blood, it'll always be there!!! I'm 63, with five kids, eight grandkids and I still LOVE minibikes!!! One of man's greatest (fun) inventions.
Got my first ct200 about a year ago, did the stage 1 mods with governor delete and a torque converter, first run hit 48mph.
Thank you guys for such good videos with detail.
What is the governor and what does it do?
@@bennetburau1962 pretty much restricts engine use, doesn’t let the engine rev to its potential.
@⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻ yeah just don't hold.top speed for.super long and if you are make sure to run full synthetic ....but yeah if it goes 48 go 40 😂😂 if u want this Chinese POS to last
Didn’t touch my governor, stage 2 and a torque converter. Does wheelies and hits 46
At what body weight 48? I want one but I’m 225 almost pure muscle lol
I just bought one...bought a torque converter and the same engine riser blocks u used , and i got a 212 predator...cant wait to do it to it...wish i coulda found a cheap used ct200, but they want 375$ used in my area...for another 100$ i figured id go brand new....the hardest parts for me are gonna be shortening the chain and figuring out the throttle cable linkage to the carb, but theres plenty of how to’s...i got everything for like 700$ give or take...figured its the closest ill get to a z50 without spending crazy money....wish i kept my two Z’s
Here for the burnout.
Kids remember: do burnouts, don’t be one.

"GO FOR HOME,SLIDE IKE, SLIDE !!" and the rider is "SSAAAAFFFFEE !!" (you handled that amazing, camera work was SPECTACULAR!! ALWAYS ENJOY, most of all glad neither of you got hurt seriously during the making of the video. 😜👍👍
Thank you for allowing me to sit in the shop with you guys, love it. Skinned up a bit for 42.5 mph, not bad. Have fun, be safe.
Hey John hey Ike! John I'd just like to pass on a little tip for you, when you install your engine mounting bolts, always if possible put the bolts in with the heads up in case a nut shears off or backs off an gets lost while riding, gravity keeps the bolt from falling out and further compromising your engines mount...better to lose just a nut than to have the whole bolt drop out! Really appreciate all the videos, you're the kind of dudes I call friends...peace!

When removing the governor replace your valve springs with 18 lb springs so you don't grenade the valve train at high rpm
@rep8250 Go to OMB Warehouse and look up governor removal kit for ct200U and you will get an explanation on the kit details.
@rep8250the stock valve springs are too weak, so at higher rpm’s you’ll get valve float. The valve will not close fully. I don’t entirely know what that does, I just know it’s bad
@@matthewsperry8463 pretty sure that means the piston can crash into one of the valves
I seen on Reddit that upgrading the springs is what lets you get to high rpm that you must do the rod and flywheel or those parts will break.
Crashing and burning is so embarrassing. You took it like a champ Isaac! Glad y’all put it in the video!
Cluckinwing lol
These are the clearest instructions I've seen on UA-cam for building and modifying mini bikes. Subscribed. Awesome content!
These mods will boost the smile on your face by 150%
I'm acually glad he threw the air filter back and showed what happens when oil gets on your filter. Goofy guys but good Intel
Guys, check your crank size with open end wrench. Its so easy. Love your show, rock on!
He falls of and the first thing he says is I hope you got that
At least John asked if he was okay, haha.
It looks like a fake fall lol iv seen lebron flop harder than that
No, he tried to do cool slide but failed because there was too much dirt under the wheel :D
Big Whane didnt fake that fall
looked a little scripted.
*CarsandCameras* Another fun video, and as much as I like to think I know a lot, still learned a lot from you guys!
63 years old, and I love this channel
Great video guys ! Nice mods ! Really took off huh? I had a stock, 1969 or 70 5hp minibike, that I saved for and bought used (with a cracked frame) in 1972, and it had a torque converter set up from the factory !! My uncle welded the frame for me. I can't remember the name....Galaxy ? I think...maybe ? so long ago. But it was Green, had chrome slotted wheels.. I loved that thing !! I disconnected the governor , and cut the muffler off leaving a straight pipe !Had no lights, but I used to take it out at night for a nice summer cruise ! lol. No helmet ! That thing did over forty too ! ( I only weighed 110 pounds). lol. Many close calls with trees and rocks....but no cops !! They didn't seem to mind back then. I still love mini bikes...don't own one though. I own a 1965 Honda Benly 150cc. Got it running...sounds nice, no smoke...but not charging . Haven't touched it in a year. Soon I hope. Well take care guys, and keep filming ! matt.
yellowchopperproductions cool. Wish you still had the mini bike
Yes. I'm a very young middle aged man !! lol.
We hope to see all of y'all at our meet next Saturday! 😜
CarsandCameras, finally, a ct200. I love the channel, and I wish I could go to the meet, but I’m camping
I wish I could come but its over an 8 hour drive and im busy otherwise I would make that trip to ride
WHY NOT THE MURRY. He has feelings to
I wish I could make it but I live in NJ, too far especially the fact I don’t have a license yet
CarsandCameras Hey guys , long time fan from UK and was wondering if there a way for me to watch the monster Kart you two built for the velocity channel appearance ? , is it possible to upload a clip without violating any copyright laws ?
I just bought a ct200 frame and swapped a 212 on it. After intake, carb kit, exhaust, valve springs, governer delete it went 56mph. Had mud tires on it too that turned into full slicks after a while haha.
how did you do 58
6:11 Listen to that perfect pop he did with his hands
Awesome! I totally under estimated the performance air filter until I tried one. I had jetted the 196 without changing the filter and rode it that way for a while. Eventually I removed the stock filter completely and test rode it. I immediately ordered the performance filterand its awesome!
3:00 'Like Magic!' I love the part where Issac puts on the clogged air filter and it kills the engine. Good air filters and intake plumbing are definitely a big part of the engine airflow(hp) equation.
Another fun video from "It will be Fine MotorSports"!
Best minibike burnout ever! Who says fat off road tires can't smoke? Thanks again gentlemen for another great video.
Michael Spear thanks for watching
These things are a blast with a Honda GX270 swap! I'm probably pushing 13 horsepower, and I've yet to top it out. So far, I've hit 50.
you should definitely post a build list!
@@sadboiszn Really all I've got into it is a mild 270 and a torque converter.
I separated the jackshaft from the original 196 clutch backplate and threw a ton of reinforcement at it (ended up breaking every weld on that with the 40 series torque converter I got)
I'm currently waiting on a fresh driver pulley because the blackhorse one I got is trash. Hopefully with the genuine comet torque converter and a more experienced ear for tuning, I'll be well over that 50 mph mark.
Originally, I ran a 30 series and a 1:1 regear on the jackshaft, but I kept melting belts. I'd have to say the best thing I've done to it was throw grooved EBC brake shoes at it. It stops so much better and doesn't squeal like the stock pads.
on the bucket list for frame mods is an MB front fork swap and front/rear hydraulic disc brakes. Once I get that driver pulley I'll see about making a video on it
You guys are absolutely awesome! Watched your videos for years and love them! You should revive the turbo drift trike and take that around the track just for curiosity’s sake.
Mini bikes rule..me and my son used to take off for hours.i had a nice litte rupp .miss those days..id love to get back into it again and maybe join a club as its jyst me and my dog these days ...go mini bikes
Thanks for the show brothers.
Hi, love what you do and full respect! I have been building high-performance motorcycles since the 80s. I happened upon a free Subaru 170- 6 hp setting for trash pickup on a stump grinder..Wow, you have got to do a build on one of these! Overhead cam, giant intake and exhaust ports, high-lift cam and a big-bore short-stroke with a hefty con-rod! It is built like a Honda XR engine! If you want, I can share some pics! I plan to get 15+ HP out of this reliably! Also, Super-lightweight!
Big Bore short Strokes like the Chevrolet 427 in the 327 that's the way to go big bore Short Stroke lots of horsepower and volume of big piston cubic inch and Short Stroke lots of RPM lots of continuous twerk
One of the top ten moments of Cars and Cameras history is Ikes mini-bike wipe out. Had me in stitches! So glad ur ok though!
Awesome instant smoke!! Some guys are really good at wheelies, because theyve wrecked so many times. Every spill is a learning experience!!!
started watching you guys a couple years back and now I feel like I know you guys lol. keep up the great work
That exhaust sounds so dang good through that forest
No kidding
Too bad you guys live far away, best mod I just picked up for my mini bike is a vintage ski to swap out the front wheel for the snow in Wisconsin! Keep on keeping on, you guys rock
I'm legit fascinated by this channel. I do NOT own a cart, bike or anything but you guys have so much fun and are both good on camera. Who knows if one day I get into this, but Im not exactly a small dude. lol Great channel, keep up the awesome work!
Also, I can picture you guys having like a MarioKart type race...hahaha
My sons Yerfdog mini bike now sits unused in my garage. The riders are grown and out of the house. At 66 I run it now and then. Fun times.
Holding nothing back on that test ride!😂
Wow, old. John's got the reverse lean goin on in the turn. Lol Y'all have come a long way!! Congrats
Those bikes are great but.... those big ole tires on the front end loves to bend those front forks back. I've seen people weld a length of rerod or a sleeve over those tiny front fork tubes to strengthen them and help prevent bending. Not sure why they used such thin walled tubes on those forks with those fat tires?
Quick tip. You can also quick measure the crank shaft with a 5/8 wrench, or 3/4 wrench.
I'm glad you guys finally got a discount code so I don't have to use red beards anymore
Kenneth Pauli what’s wrong with him
@@joshB502 That's what I thought! He's awesome
Excellent info guys. I've been a dirt and street biker for many years, and started out on a little 3hp orange framed Briggs & Stratton minibike. I want to get one of the Coleman mini's for sure.
That pine straw will get ya. Its gotten me a few times.
Thank you so much I've already been bare hunting on my CTU 200 several times, and now that I have a new thumb button accelerator and a new break installed, I'm gonna do some of these bods next so I'll carry my fat butt up the mountain looking for caribou
Installed the torque converter on my Ct200u EX a few weeks back... it’s a beast! I want for my other 3 Coleman’s.
Great video! Keep up the great work!
What does the torque converter do?
you guys rock! my 14 yr old son and i are trying to get started doin what you do. 2 karts so far. thanx for doin what you do!
11:18 "I hope you got that" I have said that many times...
I bought 2 more mini bikes hehe I took my first one across az and Mexico been all over the mountains and wanted my friends to enjoy them too👍
Heys guys love the vids....i have had a complete respect and joy for people who take small engines and unusual vehicles and .ake them unique and better!! So much respect! Have you guys ever thought of making the rail car twin turbo and EFI.....would love to see it...keep up the great vids
Might want to get some ventilation in that garage with those engines running lol
Nice burn out Isaac 👍
The intro reminds me of every video I've ever saw of a three wheeler and mine too
Leave the motor stock with the torque converter and I bet it will be faster around the yard. The engine mods give high end horse power at the expense of low end torque which you need for that race
you two are friking nuts with mechanical ability thrown in LUV IT ALWAYS WATCH YOUR CHANNEL
Yepper im hooked on these mini bikes lol . its so funny to see there faces when you pass them cars at 65 mph 😂 priceless
Great vid you guys! Always good to hear your advise. Cheers!
Awesome video ! I’m looking to get one and wanted to see what type of mods I could get and your video is definitely the first and last video I need to watch . Thanks for the help
King of the hill took a spill...😂
Can't wait . glad to see y'all bring the her dog
Greets from Finland!
Removed governor put a chikuni carb and a straight header. Made it around the block and the rod started knocking. Motor wasn't but 3 runs old. Maybe 30 minutes a piece. First 2 was part of break in. I took engine apart and found the bottom bolt was never torqued. It wasn't stripped! If anyone has the mechanical skill I recommend tearing even a new engine down and torque every bolt to spec. Clean any shavings from the block and clean up any imperfections from factory. It will also give anyone who doesn't know how to build these engines a great chance to learn for future mods
*WORD OF THE WEEK*
fnangling : verb : when you wiggle something that’s in a tight space
Thanks
Yo my brother bought a new minibike. At CT200-EX I think it is. I rode it rough yesterday. Looking at the timestamp 2:16, that black assembly bolted to the engine, the shaft the larger sprocket sits on had the leftmost bearing in it grenade out and its gone. its all chewed up. Should I just give him a torque converter to replace that or can I find the parts to fix that?
You need to make one of those CT200s into 2wd by mounting an engine to the front parcel tray.
If the serial number is 037961 or lower, the engine originally came with a 3/4 shaft. If 037962 or higher, the engine originally came with a 16mm shaft AKA a 5/8 shaft. 16mm is about .005" larger than 5/8.

You guys are a great inspiration- I just picked up an old Sears Roper mini bike sans engine and a Honda Z50r
Torque converter sounds better than the clutch as well! The clutch has a rattle sound
Love all your vids guys. Great job. Would really love to see more resto work on johns yellow trail 70
there is also arrows on the belt that shows you which way to put it on
Sweet little bikes
that’s a good little tip I never realized but my little bike couldn’t handle the governor coming off after all that’s been done to it lol it’ll take flight right into the air
Great video
Torque converters are better and a lot of ways but when you guys did your mini bike guys were burning belts up chains are better than belts the clutches and torque converters should have a should have a torque converter with a chain that would be the ultimate setup
I honestly said right before Ike crashed out "Kenevil's gonna crash"
Hi! gang:
I'm a little late in finding you guys. You missed a couple of needed mods. You might have solved all your problems by now. But here is what I did. You can put front shocks on those red CT200U's. Order parts from Coleman for the front shocks and needed parts from the CT200-EX (or use used parts from an old -EX - they are a direct bolt on. Gives you a lot smoother ride. For more smooth ride, install a larger custom cushy seat. Your wheelies were caused by the drive pulley on the Torque Converter not being designed properly. The owner's manual states the torque converter engages at 2500 rpm. Disassemble the drive pulley and machine about .1500 off the inner hub. That allows the pulley to contact the belt at a lower rpm, around 500 rpm, giving you a smoother start and better use of the power curve. Engine mount bolts with the nuts on top? Use nyloc nuts. Duh?
Time to pave your race course. That way no more grass damage. (teasing)
wi11y1960 and paint the pavement green.
Hey my plug was bad and I only had an ngk BR8EG laying around it fit perfectly but will that hurt my engine not being the exact plug
Love the videos.
Ethan Novak just saw yo profile pick.
I just got a manco critter 2 for $170.
I just wish it was 2wd
You guys are living the dream.
Quick Question:
1.) Did you add 18lb valve springs to prevent float?
aughtrnb same question
On this bike if you are using a torque converter there is no need for 18ib valve springs or governor removal. If you use the stock jackshaft and remove the governor you should get better valve springs, a billet rod, and better flywheel. But again there is no need for all that stuff if you start with a torque converter.
I found a honda GX160 in a scrap bin that had the same problem as the first bike. Ran like crap till you pulled the air filter off lol, even still had a half a tank of good fuel in it.
Do you all recommend the Coleman’s or is there a better mini bike out there?
Christopher Haynie Coleman is more or less a modified Azusa mini bike. Taco mini bikes do come with swingarm rear suspension and a Springer front end. Just depends how much you want to spend.
Ratkill9000 maby some of the tacos did but ones I have seen do not
Christopher Haynie i really like the monster motos

ike is always so happy lol
Your intro is super sick. 🤙🏽
great video man
Travis Pastrana killed it last night!!!!! wish i lived closer so i could go!!!
Nylon gears actually hold up pretty well
I won't ever believe or buy it.
Marc Wolfe it dont really matter what you believe lol all threw the 70s in the heart of the muscle car era gm and ford used nylon timing gears that held up extremely well if you dont believe me look up the ford 351 nylon timing gears its proven they are reliable specially in a 5hp engine
A chain drives those. The load is spread over many teeth. the plastic in these has all the load on a couple teeth at a time. there's a reason I have a problem with plastic GX clone cams, yet I'm barely concened with the plastic cam on the Honda GC series... and it's entirely plastic, lobes too (well one lobe, it's a weird design).
Marc Wolfe i dont see that being much difference yeah its spread out over the chain on a 351 but it has 290hp from the factory if you divide the number of teeth per hp its still over 5 hp per tooth
Briggs engines have had plastic cam gear and lobes for decades, those never fail.
Insane speed. I bought 2 for neighbor kids. Both 22 mph. Brake horrible. Non suspension. 77 years old. Raced moto cross till 55 years old here . not me. Crazy
GUYS please put another motor on the rail .!.!. I believe that rail was built strong enough...
they will someday im sure but ike said he wants to see what the 670 can do until they swap it
Donovan Bryant it can still be 670cc lol just get rid of the predator hell a cb600 would go perfect on it
I really wana see a hyabusa
What about 2 motors, tractor pull style??? I know these guys are sponsored so get 2 670s...something NEW.🤘
any 600 or 1000 cc supersport motor would be absolutely insane. get SO many views
Another idea I had was to remove the flywheel fins for reduced drag and just use an electric fan. A delta server(industrial computer) fan should do; should have way more power than you should need, so use a resistor to slow it down. Might be minimal gains, might be noticable, will definitely be entertaining IMO.
Get a fan grill for it, those thing can fuck you up.
do you know what else will carry a wheelie and try and through you off?
A 25 lbs mini bike frame, a stock 212, and a 97.5 lbs kid

I hope to meet you guys one day. I would love to come to Busco Beach and ride with y'all that would be a dream. I'v got a little 110cc pit bike that rips, but sadly i am in the Dallas area. One day i hope. You guys give me so much inspiration. Much love to you two.
