1:45 The jump is expensive to maintain, so they started a Christmas tree business on it!
Smart.
ll Kasper ll thats actually not what that is. During tournaments in the winter, you cant see the red and blue lines so they put them there as a reminder. Also they sprinkle them on the bottom to slow down faster.
@@gwynethpaavola6701 no really? I thought it actually was a Christmas tree business.
randomuser 63815 oh, I thought it was a tree business
randomuser 63815
Stop lying to people, dude. We all know it’s a Christmas tree business.

Now this pops up on everyones recomended after 5 years
Yep...
I don’t see why people are still shocked at this
oh look, the same comment on every other video thats "popped up".
@@tmxtoxemic2297 because it’s fucking huge
Oh yeah it does
i went up to the top of that jump when i was in lake placid for a hockey tournament and it scared the shit out of me to look down from the top, this is insane how they can do that.
Ha! I agree Tommy. Being at the top looking down is enough for me!
Same
I went up there in 1996 and thought it was cool. I am so afraid of heights now I think I would just freak out.
Same bro
I did the same thing when I was luge training when I was like 12 or 13. Funny how I can fly down a track at 60+ MPH but I cant look down from the top of a hill
Went to Lake Placid in 1981 at 12 yrs old. Saw the ice rink which was amazing, but then I saw the ski jumps and I couldn’t believe how high they were. Television didn’t do them justice back then. The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.
reminds me on my professional ski jumping time on playstation
ØvaDozƸ 😂
What video game involves ski jumping? Lol none stfu.

Having just returned from Lake Placid and seeing this beast in person it's incredible to watch these elite athletes go down this!! Amazing!!
I grew up driving by this jump, never seeing it in action. It's so amazing to see them going down it. The jump is so high up, it's always amazed me.
I grew up a little farther away, we’d always go to lake placid though. It gave me chills as a kid just looking at it. Glad to know it’s still used occasionally
I'm too old to even think about it now, but, when I was in my twenties, there would not have been enough alcohol to get me drunk enough to try that!!
as someone who lives/ skis here, just driving past that to get to whiteface mtn is astonishing every time. it never ceases to amaze me just how big these jumps are!
"how can we over edit a ski jump?"
right. they didn't even show the full jump at a good angle😭
@@conorhealy3519 100%. I wanted to see the jump 'television' style at the end. gutted.
The complete jump only takes 8 seconds. There are several GoPro angles that are the complete run, specifically near the end.
They forgot the payoff. I think the guy editing this was on drugs.
I know that was very anticlimactic
I went a couple of years ago to the Kulm Ski jumps in Austria, one of the biggest ski jumps in the world ! The record is 243 meters or 797 feet ! My knees where shaking on the top of the hill ! Those Athletes have all my respect !!
Just went up to the top of the jump this past weekend, one of the most awe inspiring things I've ever seen. It's amazing how big the jumps actually are when you see them in person!
I just visited this site and have a new found respect for these athletes. It’s breath taking!!!
I was there in 1987 and we were allowed to go up there. Mad respect to these gentlemen and ladies who jump these ramps. Thanks for the enjoyment.
This is awesome. A lot of production went into this. Beautiful overhead views. One historic jump. No one jumped it in 6 years!!!!
Imagine being a season pass holder to the jump, wait, check, wait check, 6 years later... okay it's open for a few days!😆😅😅
FIS should organize more World Cups in the USA/Canada; So amazing hills and nearly no one uses them (Lake Placid, Copper Peak, Thunder Bay, Vancouver, Calgary, ....);
More World Cup jumpings in America!
Iron Mountain, Salt Lake City ;)
I know ... problem is that by know (with the exception of maybe Vancouver) hills in NA don't comply with new FIS standards (inrun, flight curve, ...) and would require millions of investment to get up and running. I mean, there even used to be a flying hill, it really is a shame :( Ski jumping seems like a sport that would appeal to the general audience ...
@@Skytho I think you are right; Hills that are new / or with new standards are i think also i Park City and Lake Placid (license was till end of 2020) - idk how the rebuilt of Ironwood and Iron Mountain is going on (but last season (2019/20) there was a week for an American hill - but it was given to Rasnov in Romania)
I think a talent and sucess in WorldCup will build a higher popularity (like Malysz in Poland in 2000/2001)
@@andy1307t interesting! yeah I really hope they can make something happen. The USA were so close here and there with jumpers like Alborn, Bickner, promising athletes like Nick Fairall, looking pretty grim at the moment though ...
Squaw Valley too, Tahoe baby!
People in the world: doing extreme sh*t
Me: watching them do it while I shove my face with potato chips
LOL. Just make sure to have the extreme spicy chips.
Me rn😭
you living the life
@HeedArmy83 if I had the practice and skill, you bet your boots! Would be fckin amazing
Oh look an American...
It’s amazing he can jump so far with balls that big
Startgate is higher than Snoop Dogg :P
In the World Cup they would be jumping probably good 10-12 gates lower than these guys. Higher gate = more speed, and 1 km/h is about 5-6m more distance.
The fact that it's a tower in a rolling hills area it looks so much higher, that is very cool, being from the northeast and being 20 in 1980 I remember those Olympics well, I'm a hockey guy, so that was a magical year. That's what makes sports so great, they mark an era for the times that they play in.
That is nuckin' futs.
Cool that they left the mini x mas trees in.
Wonderful video that brings you right there to the top of Lake Placid's K120. Taylor does a great job as our guide!
WOW! Biggest respect of you guys! I was jumping there 1988 and its nice to see something happens again. Go on!!!
Have bin going to lake placid every year for the last ten years for our wedding anniversary. Heaven on earth.
Lovely up in the Adirondack mts...4WD vehicle is mandatory if one wants to drive around without having problems in the winter.. Expensive to maintain that higher jump tower .( both towers actually ).. no wonder it doesn't get used much.. and who do you think pays for the maintenance / upkeep / electric power for both towers? the ** taxpayers** that live there , that's who ! 💰💰💰💲💸😵.. the towers mainly just sit there , yr. after yr. gathering dust and slowly rotting away 😕..the moisture - laden weather , ( the mts. don't get much continuous sunlight -, solar power benefits close to none - not enough to matter ..solar power is cost prohibitive ..🚫 ) ..acid rain , other factors contribute to the eventual total rot.. both sit there like two useless , lonely monoliths .🙁👀. just waiting to return to the earth from which it came.⬇️.🕳️😞🤑🤑🤑🍀
Well done!! 👍 I competed here in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Lots of fun. I love your video!! Thanks
Glad to see this isn't the typical Olympic venue turned ghost town once the games end.
I don't think I'd have the guts to climb up to the top of that, even if I wasn't going to jump! I admire everyone that does this exhilarating sport!
Elevator
This was like 100x better than anything I've seen so far on youtube from 2018 Olympics.
I still remember the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics and it's awesome to see the facility still being used - even if only occasionally. Your video brings back a great feeling of nostalgia...thanks!
Can't wait to watch the world cup competition that is happening here in February. It's been a while since they last held a world cup competition in USA.
Home sweet home, born and raised in Lake Placid. Never got into skiing, though I'm a lifelong figure skater!
So weird this pops up after 5 years and I was there yesterday. This is trippy stuff
Me being around World Cup Downhills for a good number of years, I have the utmost respect for you ski flying "squirls" of all Nations! Good luck next year Canada 👍
I like the music becoming more and more intense when it's approaching the apex.
“It brings a lot of beauty to Lake Placid” mmmmmm not sure about that one
the pyramids are kind of an eyesore too....we should vote on some people to take cement things down, and build temporary structures instead...or just eliminate the sport altogether......forget ugly windmills and race car tracks, what we need are pretty businesses...like car dealerships, or insurance offices, perhaps a chic hairdresser....anything to make life less ugly than that unique sports venue. help me find someone to vote for to fix this problem! hehe
nice jump brother, that was solid
love and peace my friend
@@garyquack19 yeah, no. This would definitely count as an eyesore to most people. That doesn't mean it isn't grandiose and it doesn't mean it should not exist, but "beauty" is definitely not the reason here. Glad they're using it from time to time, this is truly epic.
But no mention of the blue moon cafe, I thought the cafe was pretty epic...lol...

Fantastic video. I have been to the top of the jump and its extremely intimidating. The creator of this video nailed it. Great job!
Even after seeing pictures and videos, I was blown away by how huge these are in real life
Wonderful cinematography.
Holy Sh#t!!! Absolutely nothing but total respect for the men and women who jump off this. The ski jump is one of my favorite sports in the olympics, these people have nerves of steel! 👍😀
Wow .....Awesome video & camera work!!
This Brit has been to Lake Placid and Saranac Lake back in 91
I watched Eddie the Eagle so I know how to do this
Great camera angles on the jumpers, very cool to see their POV.
4:23 the sound of the skis making contact with the ground is satisfying
What can I say, that was bleepen cool. Well produced too!
I had a hockey tournament there last year and drove by that ski jump.😯😯it was so BIG
I really do miss both of these hills. They were always a blast to jump:)
Nowadays, just walking up a flight of stairs is getting scary.
It’s not the fall that scares me.
It’s that sudden stop at the end.
Big ramp, loved the run in and take off but the best part of the video was all the landing footage and seeing how far they actually fly! Yeah that was definitely the best part, hopefully in another 6yrs you'll more great landing footage
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing.
That is spectacular! I've loved this sport since I was kid.

Thank you for allowing us to soar with you!
I went to this ski jump in the summer 2 years ago, it looks even more insane in person.
Great video, good narration too, thanks. Subscribed!
Gotta love living around the corner from this.
So proud of this video and all your efforts!
Kari Hoffman Thanks Kari! Could not have done it without you prodding me, and the patience of Taylor for doing jump after jump to get what we needed!

thank you for taking me along
I visited the jumping site in Sapporo, Japan. It's crazy and admiring to think anybody can do this!! I love to see the actual jumps. Amazing!!!
I would end up like that dude on wide world of sports as a human helicopter off the end of the ramp.
Thanks for this! I get vertigo watching it.. haha
Thank God for the GoPro, it makes for the best footage.
Bout to call in because I stayed up all night watching videos like.....this?
What a weird sport. I love it.
So cool. That was worth all the $$$ just to watch. I am from Calgary, Alberta. Would love to see our jump put back into service. They have been talking about taking it down for years. It’s a part of of city’s history and should be off limits imo. Nice Jumps!!
Freaking awesome video 📸
WOW. This is Great!!! I aspire to do work of this caliber!!!!
I live in Eau Claire:)
One of those places where you say: that is madness! And a few hours later you are jumping too.
That was awesome 🔥💥
i remember going up there, a couple years ago, while in lake placid for a hockey tournament, it was pretty cool not going to lie
I've been on the top of that just to look and I was just like "If I ever jumped this, I would have to ask someone to measure my coffin before I did." It's so scary to look down at it and imagine 'People actually do this?'
To say that makes me nervous would be the understatement of the Year!!!
AMAZING VIEWS!!
thank you for this
I went up there when I was on a ski trip last year it was awesome!
Love this!
OMG! Terrific jump. Terrific video.
why?It seemed nice to me.
+Hack Reporter0815 terrific is a synonym to awesome or good...
Used to jump the old 70 meter jump back in 73-74. Absolutely loved it! Can't imagine what the 120 is like.
Never done that before. Bet I could. I’ve seen snow a few times.
I’m having a mild anxiety attack just looking at the K120.
Very cool! Nice jumping and great to see the 120 being used!
OH MY GOD! The chin push down the hill!! My coaches tried to teach me that in the 90's on a 3Om hill! SO cool to see it on the carmera!!
Thank you for the share
I believe it feels like flying. But I cannot even bear that height, left alone doing it.
I saw the hill in Calgary one time. On tv ski jumping looks so small but when you see how high it is and the slope of the hill, it's crazy.
That was wild BRAVO
They are awesome to look at on video, but even more crazy in person when you climb the towers.
Thank you for this fantastic upload. I always admired the athletes who participated in this adrenaline fueled sport and I hope they continue to do this for everyone's enjoyment. Keep up the good work.
Very cool it’s still being used
I've been to the top of that thing. I was shitting bricks just standing on the stairs looking down the ramp. I could never imagine actually jumping it.

We flew over that landing our little Cessna at a nearby airport.........it’s breathtaking just to be that close.
The engineering on that taller tower in unbelievable! How can it support balls of steel that big?!?
Man: jumps off huge ramp
Also man: turns into flat Stanley
Wow. What a rush, but what balls to step into that track.
Neat !
Just friggin' Neat !!
Fishing the Ausable was excitement enough for me up there.
That's awesome. And insane. =D
i remember seeing those in mid 80s camping with the boy scouts.....thought they were abandoned after the games..
I get the heeby-jeebs just watching the video. Too high for this old man!
