Skiing All Olympic Runs of Whiteface, Lake Placid from 1980

Visiting Whiteface, NY for the second time. Just for fun, I want to check out the ski courses from 1980 Olympics. It proved to be more challenging than I expected. First I went for the Slalom run, the official records state the average gradient for the Olympic trail was just over 38% (which would be Blue Trail in the US). The run is otherwise measured as 26°. And towards the second half you could feel the gravity of the situation :). Then I moved to the Downhill and last to Giant Slalom. It was a fun day, with great weather. Will need to come back. Next time with gear for the famous "Slides".

Cloud spin the black you initially wanted to do I believe is always closed because of the entrance which is hard to find accumulates poorly but the rest of it is shielded from the wind and usually has the best snow on the mountain. I always just sneak over to it halfway down skyward

I eventually found it 🤦‍♂️... At the end of the day, when I thought I skied everything that was available, I started to look for glades or just any skiable woods... which lead me to find the trail. It was in shambles though, maybe better luck next time... :)

@@skiwithgenerationsnowthey don’t do clearing on it frequently, meaning that even on a powder day there is shrubs on the trail
