Path of ancestry will never scry in this deck. Go-Shintai does not have a creature type. Is still a tapped rainbow land, but it's only that in this specific deck.
Whoops! We even mentioned the subtype thing earlier in the video, but still missed this. That type line is tricky! Pinning your comment to make sure that rules interaction is caught by other viewers. Thank you!
The card Abundance is a really powerfull card in enchantress deck ( if you have green). It provide a lot flexibility because you can "choose" what type of card you want ( land or nonland) when you draw a card.
I run a different Shrine list (with Esika of all commanders) and a surprising all star has been Wild Research. You fill up your hand quickly with your draw shrines, so being able to tutor any shrine/utility enchantment/counterspell/removal at instant speed is extremely useful.
my secret fav tech in this deck is cryptolith rite, its an enchantment so it draws you cards. but also since your shrine tokens arent doing much anyways might as tap them for mana to mana fix!
Ghen seems like it could be a good addition. It can act like a second commander if you're trying to get enchantments out of the graveyard and with the Shrine tokens you can sac those to get important stuff back. It could also save you from getting decked by your own Honden of Seeing Winds by saccing it before it draws you out. Abundance is another enchantment that can also help with not getting decked if that's an issue you're worried about.
A card I’m thinking of trying in Go-Shintai is Song or the Worldsoul. It does cost a bit of mana, but once you do cast it, all of your enchantments make you more shrine tokens, making your shrines even more powerful.
i use to play it in blood avatar and that was a nightmare. having a shrine come in off anything has to feel good. i put a growing ranks into mine to get that populate on upkeep.
@@emmanewton7342 I thought of using Growing Ranks, but I decided Song of Wordsoul instead because even though it cost a lot more, it populates my shrine tokens at a faster rate.
I'd love to see a UTA on Mayael, the Anima! I'd be really interested to see what we could do to breathe new life into a commander that's been kind of set to the wayside for a long time.
Celestial Dawn is such an odd but effective way to mana fix. I'm surprised it's not widely used in 5-color decks, especially Enchantress decks. Maybe a good thing to research for a Challenge the Stats segment.
I did run myself into an issue with celestial dawn. I had out sisay, who's search is limited by power, and power increases based on your permanents' colors. Dropped celestial dawn and suddenly the only color among permanents I controlled was white. Womp womp.
It does, unfortunately, mess with 5 color decks that like to use Domain, since it does not turn your lands into Plains *in addition* to any other types, rather just making them all Plains *period.* In this deck it would only really mess with Collective Restraint, but others would probably see a worse hit.
I omitted all the good tutors to keep the power level and consistency down for my playgroup, but I am running Wild Research, Plea for Guidance, and Bring to Light. Wild Research because it is extremely funny and the other two as a way to close out a game that's going long. Colossal Skyturtle is also a great budget pickup that literally does it all.
The World Tree should be an auto include in this deck, it fixes your mana production and if you use Gods (I use Kruphix to remove hand size limit and save my extra mana i.o. to cast an immense Exsanguinate and new Thassa for blinking) in your deck, the sac ability might be handy; Moonsilver Key and Crop Rotation can fetch this as soon as turn 1, 2 or 3; Alchemist's Refuge might be good in some lists, having flash is good; Kodama of the East Tree ramps when your little Shrines hit the field; I'm currently running Kruphix and Thought Vessel to remove my hand size limit; which I missed a little in your list, with only Reliquary Tower. It's a great deck, funny and the "surprise turns" are the best!!
World Tree is in the deck! Excellent five-color fixing :) The Kodama pick is super interesting, especially since those blue Shrines could get a lot of cards in hand to play for free!
Path of ancestry doesn't scry at all, since Go-Shintai has no creature types... I also like archon over throne since throne is a cast while archon is etb, which means it will trigger off of the tokens our commander makes
For me when the commander was Golos before he got banned, I had an experience counter subtheme with every card that generates experience counters. I still have that subtheme and I am going to be tweaking the deck with this upper the average in mind. Edit: when it comes to upping our enchantment count in the ramp section why not add font of fertility and omen of the hunt.
This is my current favorite commander deck and I'm glad to see so many people enjoying it. One land that I did think you might have missed in the budget list is Murmuring Bosk. It's essentially a Triome except it's like $2.
I'm a big fan of Fanatical Devotion in this deck. Giving you the option to sacrifice one of the many tokens you're making to protect your important support creatures like your commander. Also its an enchantment that propably draws us a card bc of our many enchantress
For cheap color fixing options, how about a Tempt with Discovery? You can use it to at least get the World Tree. Since Tempt costs four manna, you should be close to having the six lands required to make all your lands turn into rainbow lands. If opponents fetch lands as well, you are even more likely to have the required number of lands to fix your colors. The card is about a dollar, and seems like it offers more value for the deck than even Cultivate or Kodama's Reach.
I don't like tempt because if no one signs up, you spent 4 for 1 land. Feels bad. I prefer pirs whim, you can remove whilst ramping, and making deals as well: "I'll pick you for friends, don't attack me, deal? "
I feel like Prismatic Omen is a better choice over Prismatic Lantern beings it's a enchantment, although more pricey. Also I feel like Wild Research was missed out in this list, since it lets you Gamble for your pieces. Anything you accidently discard will come back from the commander. Lastly, Sunbirds Invocation really let's you pull ahead with pseudo cascade.
I have a Go-SoLO deck and I have a couple of the other cards from this list, but I went in a different direction. Also, after Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate running gates is the way to go for lands. Gond Gate and Baldur's Gate make this not only feasible, but extremely powerful. I also run all 7 cards that search my deck for gate cards. And the two gates I mentioned are the first ones I go search for. And since this deck makes so many 1/1 shrine token creatures I just had to add Inspiring Leader (legendary enchantment for 2{W} that reads, "Commander creatures you own have, "Creature tokens have +2/+2.""). I also like having Eerie Ultimatum and Emergent Ultimatum in the deck (much easier to cast when you have a bunch of gates for plenty of mana fixing). Run a Mirari's Wake, Anointed Procession, and a Doubling Season for even more shrine token generation, more mana with every land tap, and another +1/+1 for those 1/1s. My friends hate my shrine deck. Even before I tuned it to where it is now, they hated it because shrines are pretty strong. They work hard to target me to make sure I can't get it going and keep my stuff on the board. They even go so far as to destroy try and destroy Baldur's Gate if I have it in play. But I love playing it because it does fun stuff. But it is a really slow play to ramp up the power to try and win. Not something to play against fast agro decks.
look into enchantment's with flash to replace instant removal for more synergistic removal pieces. also Colossification is a funny "Oops you should have blocked" card.
Im currently building this and there is a run of Enchantments from Onslaught that you should strongly consider... They act similar to Shrines. It's the "Words of..." run of enchantments. They give you a replacement effect for draws. If you would draw a card, you may pay 1 and skip the draw and get an effect. The effects are useful, but the main benefit is the replacement effect of skip the draw. Prevents you from decking out with enchantress'
I think Amareth may be a good include for some decks, you can treat her like a double enchantress draw effect, she'll draw whenever you cats an enchantment and also whenever Go-Shintai makes a shrine token, so you can go cast an enchantment, look at the top card + make a shrine token, if that top card is an enchantment draw it then look at the top card again from the shrine token and draw it if it's an enchantment
you could lean a bit more into the "krosan verge" idea with Karametra, God of Harvest, there is a fair share of creatures in the deck and the kaldheim duals make it easy to color fix and ramp like crazy with her, she will also thin your deck in the process. She is both an enchantment and a 6/7 indestructible that doesn't need a lot of fix to play.
Other interesting cards include Privileged Position, Sterling Grove, and Enchanted Evening Ofc, if you are in a group where it's ok, you can also consider Leyline of Sanctity. Together with the Sphere of Safety, you are looking at sitting comfortably having hexproof, all your permanents are enchantments and have hexproof/shroud, and any poor creature attacking you needs to tax for like 20 mana. Not to say Sterling Grove tutors enchantments! Another way to spice it up is by running Enduring Ideal to first tutor Paradox Haze, Sanctum of All, and then go from there to just roll over your opponents.
Ok so I think a really cool card for this deck is Song of the Worldsoul. Whenever you cast a spell, populate. (Create a token that's a copy of a creature token you control.) You would get a ridiculous number of shrine tokens from it.
I added a bunch of these to my “Watch Later” and they needed up in reverse release order, but this is the third time in a few videos where the one planeswalker has been removed. I can’t tell if Planeswalkers are just that bad in commander or if Joey has a distaste for them, but it’s certainly a funny repeated refrain.
Two of my favorite inclusions for my shrine deck have been purphoros and impact tremors. Between Life's Origin and the shrines that produce Spirit and/or archon's grace it can fairly easily result in a win the same turn they come out.
Also, Kodama of the East Tree helps us get more enchantments and lands out faster and easier. The big impact with lands is that each shrine token triggers Kodama and lands count as 0 CMC permanents, effectively giving us a free land drop each time it triggers.
I built this deck on a budget by accident. On a dare, a friend suggested that I should build a five color deck using every foil land from a d&d bundle pack. My mana base base is 4 of each land in foil, to make the deck work I built it with lots of artifact land search effects, the result is a surprising fast deck, for the price, that gets its mana online very efficiently... long story short... restrictions breeds creativity.
It's tough to choose between inclusion of Jegantha, the Wellspring, as a companion, and inclusion of all the cool cards that would be excluded with Jegantha.
Paradox Haze isn’t good, it fills the same role as sTronic resonator only it’s worse. I’m also a big fan of harrow in a budget mana base. It allows you to color fix, ramp, and hold up that negate at the same time. Also The World Tree and Cascading Cataracts are both around 5 and do a lot of work in a deck like this. I also cut Sigil of the empty throne. We have a lot of 5 drops already, and as you said this effect is redundant.
i love this deck so much. some things i invested in were the tokens. though i haven't yet gotten to doubling season or parallel lives, i have a growing ranks and song of the worldsoul. have yet to pull into them, but you can assemble a critical mass of these tokens and just kill people dead sometimes.
Dana Roach said it well in the podcast a few weeks ago: enchantress is just easy mode now. I have started maindecking Tranquil Grove as permanent enchantment hate, almost never a dead draw at a random Modo or Spelltable game.
Know what's fun, easy, and cheap to do? Cast shrines (and, in my build, sagas) at flash speed with Raff Capashen from Dominaria! You have not lived till you see your opponents realizing they're about to get drained for nearly three times the life they thought they were gonna.
Joiner adept? I did like the idea to turn GSLO into a vehicle, thats funny as heck tbh. I put in thassa to blink this commander, sakashima 1kf to clone GSLO and blink a bit more efficiently and ruthlessly- yes shrine isnt a creature type but GSLO is a creature thankfully. Blinking sad robot and or etb enchantment creatures that can draw, ramp or loot helps. Bouncing GSLO or mutating onto it seem interesring, there are some nifty ways to give it a more accessible creature type. Let me know if im wrong, because im sure everyone will argue how how some absurd infinite combos are perfectly legal but GSLO is a creature in its type line even if shrine itself isnt. Rules comittee?
I ended up cutting sigil of the empty throne from mine because I found that while I was getting a ton of enchantment tokens and reanimating enchantment creatures, I wasn't casting enchantments as much as I was having them etb. Now I can see keeping hallowed haunting because it still influences my board even if I'm mostly using my mana to power activated abilities. But then again, I made my shrine deck more "legends" themed than this. Ymmv
I still swear by draw/discard cards such as faithless looting to help cheat out game busters like omniscience and the decree of silence/solemnity combo to really mess with people *chef's kiss*
I’m currently in the making of a Go-Shintai of Life’s Origin commander Stax deck. Since the main theme of all the Shrine cards is just passively (upkeep, precombat, and end step triggers) to deal damage I figured trying to slow the games down to build up to this would be a optimal way of going about it. Im genuinely curious to know is this a good way of building Go-Shintai or is/would it be clunky.
I still prefer Sisay as Commander only because Go Shintai only picks from the graveyard. It's definitely one of the first tutors. I also take out the hand discard shrine due to feeling a little degenerate.
Was there any consideration for flicker effects to ramp up our shrine count faster? Also curious if Lithoform Engine is a good substitute to Strionic Resonator - we get the same copy ability feature but some extra mileage through copying spells and copying non legendary permanents. It my be worth looking at Echoing Equation as well - this could be an instant win condition if you have a decent amount of tokens out, a good mana base and Go-Shintai of Ancient Wars
Am i weird when my ramp in this deck is just whole lot of play extra land things and play lands from yard things with full suite of fetches, fetchable dual lands and tri lands? Works like a charm and you no longer mind so much when you draw 4-5 lands in one turn when you can just play them, outside of that my ramp is just 4 dorks that tap for a lot of mana ( 3 mana elf that g for every dude you got, that dork who gives mana for each enchant, those two that tap for mana of each color you got and last one is that companion that taps for wubrg ) and i never had issues with mana works like a charm. ( one important note I play on MTGO, in paper this manabase would be well outside of my budget )
To make Honden of Cleansing Fire, Honden of Infinite Rage, Go-Shintai of Ancient Wars and of course, Sanctum of Stone Fangs; better as a wincon, combine with cards such as Sanguine Bond and Exquisite Blood.
Im currently rebuilding my version of this. One thing i thought about was if one of your major enchantments gets exiled witch has happened to me in my old version of the deck that maybe a "pull from eternity" might be a good include?
What are your thoughts on the budget Lands that Search for basics and play them tapped and gain a life that you have to sacrifice when they enter the field like Maestros Theater or Cabaretti Courtyard (not sure what Lands cycle they are called)
Most reasons why you never see a basic mountain in 5c decks of 4c is because when blood moon hits they’ll all be mountains so imo there is no point in running a mountain for a 5c deck
Regardless of the scrying, Path of ancestry is still an auto-include in budget 3-color decks since it's just a better version of any of the OG 3-color tapped lands 👍
psychotic corrosion can get very very out of hand with all the card drawing going on, and you could lean into it more with things like dictate of kruphix, add in lab-man to really takle advantage of the self mill an draw
This commander is pretty cool, but i hate how homogeneous it’s become. I really want to find a cool and unique way to build this without enchantress. I had considered voltron but it just sounds silly and fun
that three visits in the list is really bugging me... You have more than enough viable enchantment ramp spells to be running any ramp that isn't Sol Ring othe than enchantment ramp in this deck,
Or just to rid yourself of the honden of seeing winds before you deck yourself with it. Such danger with that shrine, especially if you have the sanctum of all
I'm one of those people who normally pushes back in favor of Starfield Mystic and Herald of the Pantheon, but you're right: they don't do enough in Go-Shintai.
1. I have found 34 lands to actually be too many lands, although I am running more enchantments than your deck. 2. I would not cut Archon or Herald as the incidental lifegain has been very useful, and their main effects are just very good. 3. The best missing hate cards: Aura of Silence, Grasp of Fate, Karmic Justice, Stony Silence, Blind Obedience/Authority of the Consuls. 4. I would skew the mana/ramp more towards enchantements: Wolfwillow Haven, Nessian Wanderer, Utopia Sprawl, Burgeoning, etc. Budget versions do exist: Khalni Heart Expidition, Mark of Sakiko, Font of Fertility, etc. 5. Cuts: Danse of the Manse is too much of a risk without haste, Honden of Cleansing Fire doesn't do enough, Paradox Haze doesn't duplicate enough and can be used against you. 6. Spice, personally I run: Whip Silk and Genesis Wave.
@@eirvandelden Exactly, at 2 mana per cycle, I've found it to be the most effective way to dig with enchantresses. Plus bonus reach is sometimes useful to block commanders, especially since you can bounce Whip Silk after blockers have been declared, to use it again next turn.
I’m definitely anti Seeing Winds. It’s 5 mana and can easily hurt just as much as it can help. Sure it’s nice to discard a bunch of stuff to grab them out of the yard, but I think the deck can definitely work without it.
I added lab man and Vedalken orrery to offset that shrine. Also added reliquary tower. Seeing winds is my win con lol I'm deck myself out then thoracle
Using gates for my lands with a Maze’s End and a Reshape the Earth along with other gate ramp spells (ex: open the gates) is awesome for mana fixing and having an alternate win condition!
HALP!!! I really need is a play group here in Japan. I recently moved to Yamato-shi, Japan. I am missing EDH like crazy. I have not found any eglish speaking play groups to join. If anyone knows any players in the area, I would love to meet them! I need to play my new Life's Orgin deck :X Here's to hoping this hail mary comment works lol.

If your commander get Lignify'd and then you cast the treefolk it will scry.

One of the best deck architecture. Everything is well thought and well explained with logic and clarity. Really really well done
Ooh, shrines? Fun to play, brutal to play against.
Spark Double is essentially shrine no 17 if you have one of the creature version on the field. It's an all star in a lot of decks.
Sakashima is arguably better. Moritte of the frost is also good
The World Tree should be an auto include in this deck, it fixes your mana production and if you use Gods (I use Kruphix to remove hand size limit and save my extra mana i.o. to cast an immense Exsanguinate and new Thassa for blinking) in your deck, the sac ability might be handy; Moonsilver Key and Crop Rotation can fetch this as soon as turn 1, 2 or 3;
Alchemist's Refuge might be good in some lists, having flash is good;
Kodama of the East Tree ramps when your little Shrines hit the field;
I'm currently running Kruphix and Thought Vessel to remove my hand size limit; which I missed a little in your list, with only Reliquary Tower.
It's a great deck, funny and the "surprise turns" are the best!!
World Tree is in the deck! Excellent five-color fixing :) The Kodama pick is super interesting, especially since those blue Shrines could get a lot of cards in hand to play for free!
Thank you! Brewing this and there’s not many well produced materials on it
I run Sakashima of Thousand faces into the deck to copy my commander. Getting three triggers of shrines / constellation can get out of control quick.
The budget version is about seven cards away from having Jegantha as companion. So tempting...
Losing Open the Vaults and/or Brilliant Restoration would suck, but Jegantha and untap effects would provide ways of spamming Go-Shintai's ability.
I run Jegantha but so far it was a bit underwhelming although I do not seem to be missing key cards due to the companion restriction
Jegantha plus Intruder Alarm is spicy.
Worth it. It's free real estate.
@@martonferenci it’s awesome that so many of the enablers/engines sneak by Jegantha’s restriction.
This is one of my favorite decks that I own. Appreciate your insight and tips!
Path of ancestry doesn't scry at all, since Go-Shintai has no creature types...
I also like archon over throne since throne is a cast while archon is etb, which means it will trigger off of the tokens our commander makes
I run a blink subtheme for the ETB effect plus Estrids Invocation
For me when the commander was Golos before he got banned, I had an experience counter subtheme with every card that generates experience counters. I still have that subtheme and I am going to be tweaking the deck with this upper the average in mind.

Flawless manoeuvre has also been excellent for me, another protection spell, since bringing stuff back from the grave won’t protect your tokens.
i love this deck so much. some things i invested in were the tokens. though i haven't yet gotten to doubling season or parallel lives, i have a growing ranks and song of the worldsoul. have yet to pull into them, but you can assemble a critical mass of these tokens and just kill people dead sometimes.
Trust Me As A Fellow Player Using Them, They Make Your Board State Insane With Shrines xD
Dana Roach said it well in the podcast a few weeks ago: enchantress is just easy mode now. I have started maindecking Tranquil Grove as permanent enchantment hate, almost never a dead draw at a random Modo or Spelltable game.
Lithoform engine seems like a good artifact to throw in. It can pump out tokens and copy triggered abilities
Please do shorikai
Know what's fun, easy, and cheap to do? Cast shrines (and, in my build, sagas) at flash speed with Raff Capashen from Dominaria! You have not lived till you see your opponents realizing they're about to get drained for nearly three times the life they thought they were gonna.
I literally just ordered this commander last night.
I run Kaito Shizuki as a Planeswalker I'm this deck, it actually puts in good work. Especially if you wanna tutor up one of the black shrines.
Sliver Overlord and Conspiracy would be hilarious to play around with shrines.
I might be a weirdo for this but my win con is Omniscience and Approach of the Second Sun
Ymmv
I have Enduring Ideal in my Life's Origin deck. I can use it to grab out Shrine to All and then get two shrines every turn.
Path of ancestry shouldn't scry at any time, since Shrine isn't a creature type. Right?
Joey i love you covered this, but i hate you gave away all my budget secret sauce lol
I find that if you run the flip lands and shocks that most of the time I don't have issues with my lands.
What are your thoughts on the budget Lands that Search for basics and play them tapped and gain a life that you have to sacrifice when they enter the field like Maestros Theater or Cabaretti Courtyard (not sure what Lands cycle they are called)
the gates are really good here if you are looking for sumtin cheap.
Please up Mayael the Anima's Average.
psychotic corrosion can get very very out of hand with all the card drawing going on, and you could lean into it more with things like dictate of kruphix, add in lab-man to really takle advantage of the self mill an draw
Hey so for the expensive upgrades, what do you suggest my replacements be?
This commander is pretty cool, but i hate how homogeneous it’s become. I really want to find a cool and unique way to build this without enchantress. I had considered voltron but it just sounds silly and fun
I completely forgot Celestial Dawn exists and I think i have it in my generic foils box.
It’s funny that they mention the danger of Honden of Seeing Winds. I removed this card, because it was just too dangerous.
that three visits in the list is really bugging me... You have more than enough viable enchantment ramp spells to be running any ramp that isn't Sol Ring othe than enchantment ramp in this deck,
Wouldn't Ghen be decent? Being able to sac your shrines to get something else from the yard?
Or just to rid yourself of the honden of seeing winds before you deck yourself with it.
Such danger with that shrine, especially if you have the sanctum of all
@@fro5235 facts
I haven't finished the vid but how about wild research also esix can be really cool
Decree of silence + solemnity... or enchanted evening and aura thief :D
I know I know, I'm a despicable person
chromatic lantern can be replaced with The World Tree
I'm super dissapointed in Go-Shintai of Life's Origin It's to good for what I want out of a shrine commander
Have you considered O-kagachi, vengeful Kami and going for the flavor win?
I slot in a Lab Maniac just in case for Honden of Seeing Winds
Satoru up next??
Incredibly based
No Joey, don't go pushing the price up on another Mirage card I love!
Maybe wild research?
Can you make a version without tutors in the future?
What do you think about adding Purphoros, Impact tremors and Annoited Confession/ Parallel Lives as Win cons?
This was made a day after I just copied and pasted the average deck into tcgplayer and ordered it
Path of ancestry won’t scry because go-shintai doesn’t have a creature type
I gotta ask, why Whip Silk? To feed excess mana into casting/recasting it for Card Draw?
@@eirvandelden Exactly, at 2 mana per cycle, I've found it to be the most effective way to dig with enchantresses. Plus bonus reach is sometimes useful to block commanders, especially since you can bounce Whip Silk after blockers have been declared, to use it again next turn.
If you’ve never tapped a Sanctum Weaver or Serra’s Sanctum with an Enchanted Evening out, you haven’t lived.
Acetacism
HALP!!!
I really need is a play group here in Japan. I recently moved to Yamato-shi, Japan. I am missing EDH like crazy. I have not found any eglish speaking play groups to join. If anyone knows any players in the area, I would love to meet them! I need to play my new Life's Orgin deck :X
Here's to hoping this hail mary comment works lol.
So you play on spelltable? I'll play you
I'm in America but I'll play lol
Glad I already ordered my cards for this deck yesterday before the upping the price bump
There’s a little upsi in this Installment. Can you find it?
