I built my Go-Shintai as a shrine enchantment god theme. Which I think is an awesome theme when you visualize a bunch of shrines being built and summoning a god
I'd suggest Sisay, Weatherlight Captain for the 99. She's 60c according to tcgplayer so fits the budget requirement. Her activate can be a bit tough, but late game it lets you tutor pretty much any shrine directly into play, and still triggers Life's Origin.
Do you have another specific late game card you would replace it with from this deck list? I would like to add it but not sure what I should take out. Also thinking about arcane signet but not sure what to replace
@@Chibs34 Gravebreaker Lamia seems pretty weak since its 5 mana, and you still have to pay the cost of whatever you buried. It's just a very expensive tutor with multiple possible paths of interruption (countering either Lamia, the Tutored card, or GY hate). I'd say cards like Camaraderie and Collective Blessing are kind of "Win-More" for how expensive they are. They're not helpful if you're trying to recover from a wipe - or if your group aggressively targets Life's Origin (which they will be if they know how this deck works). If you already have enough tokens in play to make playing them worthwhile, just tutoring a Stone Fangs or Sanctum of All directly into play is equally likely to end the game quickly,
It has been at least 2 and maybe even 3 years I have been watching your channel. I have seen it in almost any of your Deck Techs that involve green (except ones with extremely specific strategies that can't run it). Nevertheless, I only today noticed that Sakura Tribe Elder has two sets of arms
The Hondens from Champions are a little more expensive, but they are also great shrines. The blue one can get a little dangerous, though, since it's mandatory card draw.
For anybody thinking of other ways to build, there's a lot of good options for shrines, copy tribal with sakashima or mirrorbox to support helps trim those less impactful shrines from the 99 and has some good copy enchantment spells too and can really get out of hand with sanctum of all. Omniscience is probably the easiest card to play in the deck considering how much you can draw and song of creation can help with that combo but I grew tired of omni shortly after fitting in. Not to mention the deck is really good at lab maniac wins which I grew tired of as well. Black market connections is a staple in the deck, it just generates so much value and creates shrines with its 3 life ability. Constellation tribal is really fun since go shintai at a minimum doubles down on shrines you play. The place I personally settled at was enchantment tribal and setting the challenge that I have to avoid anything but enchantments almost at all costs. The few exceptions are sol ring, boots, pull from eternity(really recommend since everyone's gonna be trying to exile your sanctum of all), estrid, and niko(planeswalkers that help create enchantments). I also set the rule that I can't cut a single shrine even though there's lot better options than a few of them. Transformation removal is great, kenrith's transformation, kasminas, darksteel mutation, minimum containment, l great for stopping threats while synergizing with enchantment triggers Shrines has easily been my favorite deck to build, adjust, and play since getting into magic many years ago. I just have so much fun doing explosive things and if your wacky with em then people don't really mind playing against it either. Such as drawing/milling yourself out more than 100 cards in a single turn. Ps. Nyleas Colossus is hilarious in the deck
I would just like to point out that shrine is not a creature type, it’s an enchantment type which I got very wrong on a judge call once. So while a very good enchantment black market connections does not create more shrines
Another great card I always include in token decks if I can is Somberwald Beastmaster. She makes 3 token when she ETBs and gives all creature tokens you control death touch. She's budget, too, only $0.17 on TCGPlayer right now. Another good one is Adrix and Nev, Twincasters. Every time you make tokens, you double the tokens. Not budget by your standards though, it's $5.96 on TCG player.
I'm currently creating a Shrines-and-Gates-Deck myself, and want to thank you for mentioning some great cards previously unknown to me. Gonna upgrade (and finish) my deck soon. 😎

I'm not sure how popular is cardtrader over there but when a colleague told me how it worked I basically stopped using other stores for magic and FaB (except for hard to find accessories)
I have a shrine deck that I absolutely love but I found that running Sisay, Weatherlight Captain as the commander instead of Go-Shintai just worked better for me personally. I love being able tutor shrines directly onto the battlefield.
I have some cards to make a "base" for a Shrine deck which are from enchantress-themed decks I had before, so the only things I'm missing to make a "test" for the deck are the Go-Shintais (I have the older Shrines so I guess I saved some money there.)
I built a Go-Shintai shrine gates deck. People worry about the shrines but most of my wins come from Maze's End. Gond Gate is the most powerful gate in the deck
I was tossing around the idea for my wubrg deck for a long time and it came down to morophon slivers or go-shintai. I eneded up going with slivers, but still really wanna play shrines. As I upgrade slivers I'm gonna start grandfathering some of the old cards down and set them aside for a shrine deck. Whacky tribal stuff is some of my favourite and I own all the token doubling enchantments since I've been playing Ghave for nearly a decade. Definitely a lot of crazy stuff you can get up to.
I included the Honden cycle from champions of kamigawa. You could also put shrine steward which let's you search for a shrine or aura card to your hand when it enters the battlefield. Then you get Teleportation circle in play and bounce that card letting you get a new one. (Or Chronicler of worship)
I got into modern Magic with Neon Dynasty and while I was originally thinking of building a Commander deck with Satoru Umezawa, I ended up really interested in a 5-color shrine deck with Go-Shintai of Life's Origin. After I built up the deck and bought some singles to help it out, the people at my local game store told me to never play it again because it was too good. Now I'm working on an Alaundo the Seer deck and I'm worried the same thing will happen again.
Wait, is the reason that you can use all those non-greens even though your commander is only green is because of the WUBRG cost effect? Edit: I looked it up and yep, wow. I've been playing since 2014 and I never realized this damn.
Agreed on the Sphere of Safety, but I think only the original Hondens (+ Sanctum of All) trigger druing the upkeep. The Sanctums trigger at the beginning of pre-combat main phase and the Go-Shintais in the end step. Also, I think Paradox Haze costs around 7 bucks, so it would be out of budget for Mitch's decks.
This is one of my favorite commanders. Decree of silence is great in this deck also words of wind with the right set up can bounce most of the board back to players hands and create a god awful amount of shrine tokens.

Ive build a Shrine commander deck b4 new shrines were even released and i used Sisay, Weatherlight Captain tot just tutor them into play. With these new shrines its even easier to just go off. In my opinion Sisay is better for just finding what you want ( + i run Jegantha as a companion which is super easy to setup ).
Played with this commander a few times. Late game managing your field is extremely complex as there are so many decisions to make, so much manna to spend. Sanctum of all is always the first to fetch with Sanctum Steward or enchantment fetch of your choice!!
Enchantment decks can already be brutal to play against because they can grid lock the whole table but a commander that lets you just keep bringing those enchantments right back could be a nightmare.
My Go-Shintai deck is shrines and enchantment soup, and kind of wins by throwing up on the board. I have classics such as: Enchanted Evening, Wheel of Sun and Moon, Aura Shards, a selection of Theros gods, and multiple enablers for enchantments. Think Starfield Mystic and Jukai Visionary.
I want do make a deck themed around blessing and curses. The commander is perfect for that. So it should play most curses and shrines. And probably some Gods too.
i still have second copy of go-shintai in my boxes. might make a meme version along the lines of "go-shintai of a thousand backgrounds" which is just all the backgrounds that make sense and the shrine stuff
With this commander you can use Sanctum of All to pull shrines on upkeep from your library or graveyard for free and double their triggers. It also grabs your commander if it's in either of those places.
I guess this commander was enough to make the old Honden shrines over a buck each. I did a similar build with populate shrines when I made mine and I'm really happy with the deck
I highly recommend Boon of the Spirit Realm. It's a Constellation card that gets counters and gives +1/+1 per counter. Another card is Flowering of the White Tree, which gives nonlegendary craleatures +1/+1 and legendary creatures +2/+1 and ward 1. If you don't care about money, Storm of Saruman makes a token copy of your second spell played each turn, and the copy isn't legendary. I've managed to draw through my deck 4 times on my upkeep through shrine shenanigans.
Another way to build this deck is to go all gate and maze's end, however that is less of a budget option right now while Baldur's Gate is fresh, just watch most of the gates drop in price and get the gate support and fetch cards. I tend to win most of the time with Go Shintai via lands but have won with pure damage, mill, or approach of the second sun.
I've made a Go-Shintai deck with all the shrines and many of the cards from this video and i can only recomend building a deck like this on your own. Its fun to play and sometimes even unbearable to play against. If you're not limited by buget i recommend to include the hoden shrine cycle for even more shrines.
I built a Shrine deck with Go-SoLO as the commander. Then when Baldur's Gate came out I turned it into a shrine/gate deck (more on that later). And my friends hate it. HATE it. They refuse to let me grow my shrines. Like at all. I get more fun out of it playing it with other people at my LGS. Now the gates in my deck do seem like a slow choice. But. . . With about 8 gate ramp spells and the Gond Gate it's not so slow. First ramp spell to go get a gate I always go for the Gond Gate, unless I've already drawn it into my hand. The Gond Gate, for those that don't know, let's your gates ETB *untapped*. So all the ramp spells that say put into play tapped, and the gates themselves which say ETB tapped, Gond Gate overrides that and they're usable when they ETB. Add to that Baldur's Gates which takes 2 mana and then taps to make an amount of mana of any one color equal to the number of gates you control. Makes it easy to go get Go-SoLO back onto the field, and pay commander tax when needed. The gates really add to the shrines and with all that ramp, makes for a strong combo. At least IMO it does.
Where did you get 8 gate ramp spells? I searched from the gatherer and only found these 7: Circuitous Route District Guide Explore the Underdark Gatecreeper Vine Navigation Orb Maze's End Open the Gates
I added jegantha to this, so you can just tap it instead of WUBRG. The restriction is actually fairly minor in a 5 color deck. I bought all the original kamigawa shrines when we got more shrines in core 21 and was using Golos as commander until we got the Go-Shintai...
Just now checking this video out to see what else i could do to break my deck further. Mines about as toxic as it could be. I made a combo Shrine/Curse/Tom Bombadil saga. Very fun, and the commander brings back my sagas. Very toxic 🤣
A very cheap combo I reccomend is [[Curator's Ward]] and [[Sterling Grove]]. Its a 5mana investment that hexproofs all your enchantments for like $1.50
I’m currently in the making of a Go-Shintai of Life’s Origin commander Stax deck. Since the main theme of all the Shrine cards is just passively (upkeep, precombat, and end step triggers) to deal damage I figured trying to slow the games down to build up to this would be a optimal way of going about it. Im genuinely curious to know is this a good way of building Go-Shintai or is/would it be clunky.
@@jaceanderson5748 it turned out well enough, but the issue that ended up happening is yes I slowed everyone down, but shrines are already slow so it just ended up hampering the deck more then anything. At least from my experience, now putting Stax pieces that is artifact hate, Stony Silence for example worked really well since my deck didn’t run many if any artifacts.
Unfortunately, shrine isn't a creature type, it's an enchantment type. Like food is an artifact type (i.e. gingerbrtue, though this also has golem as a creature type)
Love this, I've been wanting a shrine deck for ages. Hey Mitch I hope you could help me out with this. I already have the first set of shrines (the honden shrines), which cards from this decklist do you think could be replaced for those shrines?
If you're going to include the Hondens be very careful with the blue one. It is NOT a "may" ability. I've put myself into situations where I was forced to draw 20+ cards per turn and nearly decked myself before my shrines could finish off opponents, and that was before shrine tokens were added to the mix.
This deck looks like a ton of fun, thanks for the vid! However, I'm fairly new to commander and I think I'm misunderstanding something. I thought you could only use cards of the color of your commander, but this guy is mono green? Thanks in advance for responses.
Ah yes common mistake. You can use the colors anywhere in the commander's text box as well. So this commander let's you use all 5 colors in your deck due to his ability costing all five.
Yep you can only use cards that are a part of your commander’s color identity, which includes any color mentioned in its cost or text. Here since it mentions all 5 colors in its text its identity is all 5.
The color identity is what matters and color identity is based on all mana symbols on the card. The Commander is a green creature but the ability is 5 colors and that makes all 5 colors playable for this commander :)
The commander is green but for his tap ability you still need all mana colours. For this reason it is considered multicoloured. You can go for mono green, but then this commander will only be half usable.
I have been playing my go-shintai 5 color enchantments deck on arena for awhile now and i was wondering if you would revisit and update the deck with the more modern techs?
Fantastic Deck! Haven't found a video of it but have you done anything for Rats? Been trying to do a Rat/Crew Artifact deck cause it sounds fun and I've been trying to find ideas.
Can this deck even work with "only" 11 shrines? You can realistically have a couple rounds without even drawing a single shrine with that low count. I don't know :( I like shrines though
I thought there were older shrines too? I might be mistaken them for a different mechanic though. (Edit) Ah yes, found it. Champions of Kamigawa - I was fooled because it looks like they've all been reprinted. Lol
I built this deck, then it was the first deck I pulled apart. I built it as 5 color shrines enchantress with a control suite. The reality is the deck loses to opposition agent.
I've been playing Go Shintai since it's release. It's an amazing deck and is really resilient in the late game. The more Shrines you have out, the tougher it is to stop and the more potential damage the deck can do.
i had all the shrines but slowly been making it a little staxy as not all the shrines are that great and swapped em for things like stony silence and the ghostlyprison/propaganda type things
Bro. You really should sell that shrine token as a proxy. Or at least scan it so people can make it themselves. Could be a cool community thing and penny maker

Been Brewing Around Go-Shintai Since Release And Never Found A Build I Quite Like, Gonna Try This Build Since Most Of Your Builds I Like :3
I've made a Go-Shintai deck with all the shrines and many of the cards from this video and i can only recomend building a deck like this on your own. Its fun to play and sometimes even unbearable to play against. If you're not limited by buget i recommend to include the hoden shrine cycle for even more shrines.
✨✨Shrine bright like a diamond ✨✨
I use a gate mana base into my Go-Shintai, it's amazing!!
I searched from the gatherer and only found these 7:
Circuitous Route
District Guide
Explore the Underdark
Gatecreeper Vine
Navigation Orb
Maze's End
Open the Gates
Man have I missed hearing first up there's wayfarers bauble. So nice to hear
Not having the original shrines is a huge mistake as they have some of the strongest abilities. And most of them are around 1-2$
Break the Bank: Tunnel Vision, Name Replenish. Bonus points if Scry Replenish to the bottom.
Good timing, just built this deck 💪
I added jegantha to this, so you can just tap it instead of WUBRG. The restriction is actually fairly minor in a 5 color deck. I bought all the original kamigawa shrines when we got more shrines in core 21 and was using Golos as commander until we got the Go-Shintai...
Can you do a break the bank version with all 17 shrines?
Just now checking this video out to see what else i could do to break my deck further. Mines about as toxic as it could be. I made a combo Shrine/Curse/Tom Bombadil saga. Very fun, and the commander brings back my sagas. Very toxic 🤣
I think Brilliant Restoration is a definite must in the 99
A very cheap combo I reccomend is [[Curator's Ward]] and [[Sterling Grove]]. Its a 5mana investment that hexproofs all your enchantments for like $1.50
The nice thing is both on their own are good in the deck and dont need the other to be useful but if you do have both then its just a bonus
Just pulled this commander yesterday!
Just played my buddies deck. Ended up drawing over half my deck by turn 6.
I've been trying to build something like that too lately. How did yours turn out?
@@jaceanderson5748 it turned out well enough, but the issue that ended up happening is yes I slowed everyone down, but shrines are already slow so it just ended up hampering the deck more then anything. At least from my experience, now putting Stax pieces that is artifact hate, Stony Silence for example worked really well since my deck didn’t run many if any artifacts.
I was just planning a shrine/gate deck!
You can add kaldhein's maskwood nexus and every creature under your control in any zone is a shrine too
Unfortunately, shrine isn't a creature type, it's an enchantment type.
Good lord, this could get out of control really fast
I built mine as shrines and gods. I call it Daddy’s MegaChurch
I mix a shrine tribal with a gates tribal and it works SUPER well
This deck looks like a ton of fun, thanks for the vid!
@@rokketman159 oh! That makes sense now. Thank you, man. 🤙🏼
The commander is green but for his tap ability you still need all mana colours. For this reason it is considered multicoloured. You can go for mono green, but then this commander will only be half usable.
....... I've been building this since Dynasty cane out..... I just finished it a couple weeks ago..... where was this when I needed it, lol
I have been playing my go-shintai 5 color enchantments deck on arena for awhile now and i was wondering if you would revisit and update the deck with the more modern techs?
Dang it!!!!! I was just planning a deck around this and now all the cards are going to go up in value!
I am literally building a deck for this right now. It must be....destiny
Great video, great deck
Fantastic Deck! Haven't found a video of it but have you done anything for Rats? Been trying to do a Rat/Crew Artifact deck cause it sounds fun and I've been trying to find ideas.
Any reason you didn't include the Honden shrines? or is it based on just the cost effectiveness?
Good question! Those were out of budget for the deck since each of them are over $1.
The green Honden might be worth as part of the token synergy
How would path of ancestry and go shintai work? Shrine isn’t a creature type?
A little disappointed that the hondens weren't included
Can this deck even work with "only" 11 shrines? You can realistically have a couple rounds without even drawing a single shrine with that low count. I don't know :( I like shrines though
No Hondens? Mind you some of them are around 3-4 so ya
You need the og Hondens baby!
Time to use my Serra's Sanctum
I thought there were older shrines too? I might be mistaken them for a different mechanic though.
(Edit) Ah yes, found it. Champions of Kamigawa - I was fooled because it looks like they've all been reprinted. Lol
wouldn’t you be forced to sacrifice tokens after populating because of the legendary rule
Ironically. Just when I started this video. I got matched against this exact commander. Ended up beating it with my Tiamat Dragon deck💪🏾

Epic
5-color shrine tribal 😳
I built this deck, then it was the first deck I pulled apart. I built it as 5 color shrines enchantress with a control suite. The reality is the deck loses to opposition agent.
I've been playing Go Shintai since it's release. It's an amazing deck and is really resilient in the late game. The more Shrines you have out, the tougher it is to stop and the more potential damage the deck can do.
What would you take out for the rest of the shrines?
Wanna build five color shrine enchantment food stuff
Thanks again
Would love to see a break the bank on this one.
very cool deck
Hello is this deck still strong nowadays?
i had all the shrines but slowly been making it a little staxy as not all the shrines are that great and swapped em for things like stony silence and the ghostlyprison/propaganda type things
Bro. You really should sell that shrine token as a proxy. Or at least scan it so people can make it themselves. Could be a cool community thing and penny maker
What would be the deck's power level?
I know the Hondens are more than $1 but I don't see how you can not include them.
No Hondens ?
