I agree .. stopped chasing these Esoterica blends a long time ago.. sure they’re great blends but the inflated prices and the limited supply was a real turn off. Nice review
Good job on this. I've given up trying to get a hold of this blend tho. Quiet Nights is really a great tobacco and I guess it's real close to this. Thanks and enjoy your pipes.
My guy, you should do a review of Escudo. I would really like your opinion and take on that blend. That or Peterson De Luxe Navy rolls. Heard UA-cam is being a little weird for you, thinking about supporting you through that third party site cuz I’d love to see your videos continue. Hope you and yours are doing well, sorry to hear about your mother passing. Please know all who follow you support you. Stay strong, and may good food, good drink, and good smoke be in your future. ❤
Thanks for the review. I have some quiet nights and didn’t know that it’s a similar tasting blend. I’ll keep that in mind next time I try it. Having some SG full Virginia flake on the front porch now. Has a prune nose on it. Hay taste. Beautiful Friday morning!
I've tried most of the big names in english blends besides Penzance, and I just keep coming back to Quiet Nights. It's just the right balance of everything. Smokey, woodsie, musty, incense, while still allowing the Virginias to shine through.
You were correct. Germains is based in Jersey in the Channel Islands, to the south of mainland England. As someone from the UK, I had not heard of Esoterica tobaccos until I started to follow the YTPC. Even the regular production Germains blends seem to sell out quite quickly, which suggests they are a mix of popular and very small production compared with the big companies like STG and K&H in mainland Europe. Good video, hope for some more tobacco reviews soon.
When you show your jar of Penzance it doesn't appear to be a flake at all; not even a "broken flake". But the 8oz package of Penzance consists of a plastic tray with the rather short whole flakes arranged overlapping in neat rows. Mine was produced in 2008 and the flakes tend to crumble a bit all by themselves over time. By now they also display a large quantity of crystals. The stuff just gets smoother and smoother. The only way you can buy this without being gouged is to luck out and find as soon as its available from retailers such as smokingpipes. If you live outside the U.S., forget it.
Ya what you see in the video is of a 2oz sample given to me, which had been broken down by the original owner. I have an unopened 8oz bag in my cellar that I'll eventually open. I'll probably give another video update on the blend then.
Great thoughts. I only tried a sample but wasn’t overly impressed, especially because of the hype. Interested in trying quiet nights for the stronger Virginia’s, and I haven’t had a Pease blend I didn’t like.
Tasty blend, but not worth the really high prices if you want to smoke it more often. Better do joint venture and buy a tin (if you can not snap it in regular sale) and devide it between few smokers to try. Cheers, Janez
Interesting video, I always love listening about tobaccos that I cannot obtain in my area. Just a side note, if the ventilator added Ozone to the air in your room, you would probably be dead by now. Ozone is a very dangerous chemical and is a number one parameter to keep an eye on in polluted areas, such as cities and industrial areas. Ozone is an important gas to be present in the atmosphere however, as it's presence in the Stratosphere is necessary for life on Earth, through forming the Ozone Layer.
@@giannihenson8253 not at all! I didn't any offense. Honestly I've been waiting for someone to chime in and correct me, as I knew I was explaining it wrong lol.
Thanks for the review. I figured as much. It bothers me it’s so hard to get with as few of pipe smokers out there. It would be completely ridiculous if this were the 30’s and many times more people smoking pipe tobacco. Why bother with such a small supply? Wish I lived closer to you and could check out your church, smoke a pipe with you. Be blessed.
Good vid. I stopped chasing it after trying it recently, after cellaring it for a year and wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't impressed either. Been there, done it and now I won't need to follow the hype anymore. Are you a black coffee drinker?(was wondering because of your liking for that, darker, tar taste) Thanks for sharing. Smoke it easy 👍🍂🔥💨
I was really disappointed by Penzance too... I guess I fell for all the hype.. when I got some I was really let down... its also compared to star of the east too...
Nope...for all the nay sayers.... Chase the Unicorn is a must! It is what drives the human spirit...add age to the spoils of the hunt and its a sublime ride!!!! Think of it this way...delayed gratification in a world of instant everything.
A couple of thoughts to think about your review. 1.....you smoke Chelsea Morning often. 2.....you smoke Quiet Nights often. 3......it is not an equal comparison at all. Now why would I say this..... Penzance ......is by far the best Latakia, Virginia, oriental/Turkish blend in the world for its blend period. It does not contain any perique. Your tastes lean toward having an amount of perique in a blend. Most folks discount this very important issue often. Quiet Nights is a very refined version of Nightcap in my opinion. Penzance must only be compared to other JFGermain blends because nothing tastes like Penzance. A fair comparison blend to Penzance must contain Latakia, Virginia and oriental/Turkish only......i.e. The Balkan Sobranie, And so to Bed, Margate, and Pembroke. These blends are all from JF Germain and contain the blending expertise necessary for an equal comparison. I smoke Quiet Nights often along with all of the other blends I mentioned in this post. Your views are respected by myself and I’m sure many other folks but keeping a view in context is the point I’m making. Unfortunately I have researched the GL Pease lineup which is very comprehensive but he currently doesn’t offer a blend of Latakia, Virginia and Oriental/Turkish that you could compare to Penzance I wish he would do that. Chelsea Morning is my number 1 blend in the AM with perique period. Quiet Nights or NightCap is my number one at the end of the day. One last thought......JF Germain is THE ONLY pipe tobacco manufacturer in the world where every blend they make flys OFF the shelf under any name it is sold under and it’s way bigger than just Esoterica. I do enjoy your reviews and keep up your videos and I know you will be blessed from Above based on your efforts in your faith.

Not sure I'll ever chase the unicorn blends so many readily available great ones. Great review!
Exactly.
Would love to see you review Samuel Gawith blends and Pembroke
I'll keep those in mind for future videos. No promises on Pembroke! The only other Esoterica blend I have on hand is Dunbar.

Great review! I agree with you, not worth the elevated prices on ebay!
When are these even available on Ebay? I've looked plenty of times and haven't found it there for a long while.
@@rowan1043 Anymore, it is very rare to find it on ebay & if you do it will be very high priced!

Agreed!
I think it's odd that no one ever mentions GL Pease's Meridian when they discuss English blends. It is such a fine tobaccos blend.
You know that's been a blend on my wishlist for quite awhile. I just recently moved it to my shopping cart for my next purchase.

Thanks for correction. I need to reread exactly what the ventilator's secondary feature does. I figured I wasn't explaining it correctly!
@@TheSpurgeonPiper I hope I didn't sound condescending, it was a merely a small correction.
