Rafael Nadal may not end up with the Grand Slam record but he has to be viewed as the greatest competitor on a tennis court. Without doubt second to none. 14 French Open titles in 17 attempts 112 match wins to 3. That has to be one of the greatest sporting achievements of all time. I agree with the sentiment it is still totally beyond belief. It’s just incredible to consider the enormity of such an achievement. All those injuries could not dim the sheer will of greatness within.
@@rezadiputra6869 - Yes his withdrawal from his third round match against Marcel Granollers due to a wrist injury. He was also forced to skip Wimbledon. He made his return at the Rio Olympics where he won a gold medal in the doubles.
I remember watching rafa vs zverev. That level of tennis was just unbelievable. Ashame Sascha got injured. RG without rafa ist just like another masters 1000 for me
??? Wdym lol everyone watching was really worried because the closed roof and colder temperares were really affecting rafa and he was playin worse. In this video they even mentioned how he didnt even hit any forehand winners until the tiebreak. I remember watching it and being sad rafa was playing far from his best
What Nadal does with his wrist is INSANE, look at his technique on some of the shots, it is ALL wrist work, shots no one even tries he routinely makes. Genius.
We want you back Rafa. Praying for you to recover from your injuries. Roland Garros will not be the same without you. We are going to miss your electric actions. Very enjoyable. You are a delightful to watch! Love you Rafa! .
Crazy how he has played so late into life and is still the best clay courter ever, and one of the best players ever. Hope to see him back soon. Also, nice touch stitching every point of the final game together👍
Rafa's achievements at Roland Garros are probably invincible and will never be beaten. His feats at Paris are so great that it often overshadows his career outside clay and people think he is an average player outside clay. The guy has 6 Grand Slams , 10 Hard Court Masters Titles and an Olympic Gold Medal on hard courts. Not enough? He is a 2-time Wimbledon champion and a 1-time Queen's Champion. Even if a surface named "clay" did not even exist, Rafa Nadal would still have had an absolutely outrageous career and would still be among the best players of all time. Respect, Rafa; we love you, and we will always love you.
Correction -- Rafa has (8) GS outside of Clay. (4) US Open, (2) Wimbledon, and (2) AO. He has 8-8 record in Non-clay GS finals. If you take away the clay, Rafa still out-performs Andre Agassi, Stefan Edberg, Boris Becker, Ivan Lendl, and Mats Wilander in GS records. And these men were considered legends in their time. That pretty much says it all.
And that is with having to compete with Federer, Djokovic and Murray. Put him with the players some of the other people were playing against and these records would be even better
Well that depends on the way you're looking at it. From the point of historic importance, Nadal vs Medvedev at AO would still be better. But quality-wise and also probably length-wise, it could have been the match of the decade for sure.

Even more, when he lost to Soderling in 2009 he had tendonitis in both knees which forced him to miss defending his Wimbledon Crown, His 1st loss to Novak was coming back from long term injury & when he lost in 2021 he was carrying an ankle issue which forced him off the court for 6 months...
