Roger never had a chance v Rafa on PC at RG over 5 sets. How could he playing with a single handed backhand v a man with two forehands, who could whip it to that wing at will? Couldn’t consistently generate enough pace and depth on that backhand wing playing balls shoulder/head height. Completely neutralised his sliced backhand which was useless v Rafa. Rafa always had a get out of jail free card to play that wing and open up the court. He didn’t have to think that much when playing v Roger at RG. All his strengths were magnified and all of Roger’s weaknesses exposed. His only chance was taking the ball on the rise but that was next to impossible on a clay court and footing required and he wasn’t going to get enough depth on his shots playing deep on such a massive court. This was just a massacre! At the end I was just glad Roger was out of his misery. All I remember from the speeches afterwards was Roger sheepishly saying to the shocked crowd “Oui, C’est Moi!”
Nadal humiliated Federer completely. Never did Federer look hopeless like in this match. Federer was my favorite player back then. He was the best player in the world and had such an aura around him where he seemed unbeatable. However when he went up against Nadal and Đoković it made me realize that Federer can be beaten. It also made me question if Federer was really the best player.
Nadal is clearly worse than both of them on surfaces other than clay and Djokovic is almost equal to Federer although I think age and stamina played a huge role to him not being able to win 5 set matches against Djokovic later in his career

Fed is probly the in the top three best single handed back hand clay court players ever ( Kuertin no 1 ), with good sting on every shot when he needed it . But you see a pattern here - he often drops the ball short leaving himself very valnerble against the brick wall that is Nadal.
Using the same equipment used back in 2000 - i believe Gustavo Kuertin would have had a very good shot at beating Nadal at the French Cant think of anyone else with a realistic chance 😮😮
This is the greatest match Nadal ever played. Many things went Nadal’s way before the final. He didn’t lose a single set. So he came in fresh. It was also a cool tournament. @@cwsrealfan And Djokovic has a winning record against both! But I agree, among the 3 there are so many classic matches, especially at the Grand Slams which is one of the reasons these guys are so great. They showed it on the sports biggest stages!!
Any of the big 3 is tbh.
legendary
Federer siglehandedly decided to serve and volley systematically, maximizing the difficulty for him. Other than this masochistic choice, he played extraordinarily well
The rally quality between these 2 is unprecedented. While Nadal-Djokovic is the most gruelling rivalry, this one is the greatest in my opinion because of the shear quality and how the styles blend.
Extended highlights are almost as long as the full match.
Prime Rafa (2008, a real killer in that year) was the god of tennis on clay.
This version of Nadal was the most dominant, the strongest tennis player ever on clay.
*Rafa, the king of the French Open/Roland-Garros (14 times).*
Unreal Rafa❤
This is the highest level of tennis anyone ever played on any surface. Nadal on clay will always be the toughest challenge for anyone on tennis history
@@lucasroman3010 Peak Federer on grass and fast hardcourts is in a close second though.
Wrong, 2016 Doha Final Djokovic is the highest level ever it’s been mathematically proven. Djokovic achieved the highest ELO rating in history after that match.
That was one match, you can't compare the level of Rafa on clay with anything else, by numbers, win %, titles, records, everything.
@@lucasroman3010 So you are talking about highest level over the course of a tournament then? If so then I would give it to 2020 Nadal or 2017 Nadal as he lost even less games than 08 Nadal in those 2 years at RG. But as for one match though, it is 2016 Doha Final Djokovic that attained the highest level. Glad we could clarify things.
@@justchillin6314 still one match will be Rafa Rg final 2008. He beat the number 1 player in the world in a grand slam final losing only 4 games, not comparable to the doha 2016 final, but I'm sure you already know that doha is only a 250 tournament, not to mention Rafa's level in 2015 and 2016 it one of his worst performance years
Nadal's backhand was just as lethal as any player's forehand
Beautiful backhand pass by Federer at 5:35
It's not a classic, it's a one man show..
Can we have please Roland Garros a highlight between Djokovic and Nadal 2008?
I watched this and saw that RF couldn’t wait to get off the court!
These days Nadal spin ball tough to beat and his running and chasing balls….. Vamos. Gonna miss him soon.
Miss him I only watch tennis because of him
Federer is my goat but prime Nadal on clay is like the highest peak of any professional sport.
Rafa at the peak of his ferocious power!
Pales in comparison to roger. Roger is better on all surfaces even clay.
No, his power was better in 2017 and 2020.
This was the day Federer's decline started followed by wimbledon defeat after that he won only 8 or 9 grand slams
Only 8 or 9 Slams. Well...
''Only'' 8 or 9 GS
Wawrinka-djokovic final 2015 full match please
👎..don't spoil here ..they didn't even uploaded extended highlights for rafa vs fed 2006,7 ,2011 and Rafa vs Djokovic 2012,14
Nadal on clay and that in 2008 is the epitome of tennis brilliance. Nothing can topple it.
It would have been interesting to see how Federer would have faired against Nadal on clay had he changed his racquet earlier and started stepping on his backhand. That was the one big weakness against Nadal is that Fed got pushed back so far on his backhand side and had to work extra hard to stay in rallies.
It would've been the same, their last match in Paris was with Federer new racket and Nadal won that match, Federer simply had no answers against Nadal on clay
@@norm-bb3bb It's hard to gauge from that match because it was a very windy day unfortunately which robbed us of a great match (of course, both players have to play in the same conditions so not taking anything away from Nadal) but the wind suited nadal much more than federer. Could of likely been the same result but it would of been great to see Fed of 2017/18 against Nadal on clay without wind.
The goats in order are Djokovic, Federer, Nadal.
@@justchillin6314 Nadal better h2h and more slams than Fed. Olympic Gold in singles. He has achieved more therefore is better. Djokovic just had the longevity that Nadal didn't so its fair to put Novak at no.1 but Fed definitely is not no.2.
@@Romans8-9 Goatkovic disagrees with you, go watch his video called “Federer is Greater than Nadal.”

Thanks, Novak Djokovic. You arrived at good time.
If Nadal was not there fed would have won few RG. Agree or disagree? It took best clay player on history to stop fed winning RG in 2007,08, 11
Yes Fed would have won about 3 RGs at least without Nadal, and Nadal about 4 Wimbledons without Federer.
This was Federer's worst performance in a grandslam final match. He got bageled in last set.
Full version please
Federer this match to me figured he’d try to change up how he played nadal the previous 3 years by going to the net more and it just didn’t work.
Considering Federer had mono during this match he didn’t do that badly. Perspective matters, but Nadal was just on another level in this match, still would have beaten any version of Federer on clay, but still, Federer didn’t do completely terrible considering.
'El Rey' Of Clay, fe' sure!
This is hardly a classic. 2007 was a great match.

I mean he's doing that to Prime Federer !! Scary !
Que paliza…hay que agredecerle de por vida a Soderling que evitó una gran injusticia, si Roger no ganaba aunque sea 1 RG hubiera sido terriblemente injusto
Rare times to see Roger ever getting destroyed in a slam, but this is the match which would haunt him in other 20 + plus matches against Rafa.
Gave bagel to Federer in his 20s is hard to feat. I believe nobody can beat this version of Nadal in clay.
Nadal the BEST player of the history....
@@PabloBlaser On clay.
Maybe - like all the great players he was a very good front runner .
I would love to see him against Kuertin - using the strings n equipment from that earlier time - he would have tested Nadal 7:45
Federer played well in this match, considering he had mono; his shots had depth and pace. His backhand wasn't too bad, either. Rafael was just too dominant on clay in 2008.
Can you explain what is the meaning of mono.i am clueless about it.

Bagel Federer? Then beat him on his surface. Then beat him the following Yr on hard court...... This version of Nadal is tennis incarnate

I'm a Federer fan, and I wouldn't really call this a "classic" match 😅 this was a straight-up demolition tbh.
Classic demolition I guess 😁
@brunomaelstrom8823 yeah pretty much 😅
Tennis at its best with Roger Federer playing Nadal
crazy fact. Nadal had an psoas muscle tear and still won this match.
OMG, Rafa in his prime on clay was probably the best tennis player ever. Invincible.
8:19 super unfortunate miss and the final nail in the coffin for Federer on that day. He was a bit competitive in the 2nd but not taking the break here, I think ultimately broke his mental strength regarding believing in being able to beat Nadal, which resulted in the bagel in the 3rd…
Fed is probly the in the top three best single handed back hand clay court players ever ( Kuertin no 1 ), with good sting on every shot when he needed it . But you see a pattern here - he often drops the ball short leaving himself very valnerble against the brick wall that is Nadal.
non sense and no likes
What a load of nonsense.
Using the same equipment used back in 2000 - i believe Gustavo Kuertin would have had a very good shot at beating Nadal at the French
Cant think of anyone else with a realistic chance 😮😮
this version of nadal is dope
I'm sure I know nothing compare to Federer but did he won a single net point the whole match??? Why on earth he did that so often????
This is the greatest match Nadal ever played. Many things went Nadal’s way before the final. He didn’t lose a single set. So he came in fresh. It was also a cool tournament. So the conditions were slower than normal. Federer had a taxing match against Monfils. A fresh Nadal in the finals is a scary thing. Plus Federer’s tank wasn’t full. Everything went Nadal’s way. Including Federer having mono.
Federer had mono early in the year before April 2008 not in June...
@@funnyzeitgeist1346 mono effects your game many months after you’ve had it. Just compare Federer 12 months before mono and after mono. It’s not even close. I’m not saying this to discredit Nadal. He was very tough in 2008. Though beatable. As Murray did at the US Open.

Federer’s mono is the craziest excuse. I’ve seen people say his mono lasted until 2016 and went away in 2017 😂 here’s the facts: Federer had mono in December 2007. By Indian Wells, he said himself that he was feeling much better, but was still out of form. And Federer’s 2008 clay season was pretty great. He pushed Nadal hard at Monte Carlo and Rome (iirc). This was just peak Nadal and Federer knew he had no chance at RG. End of story.

Only time after 2000 that Federer lost a set 6-0
Don't forget the final set of his career, he lost that 6-0 to Hurkacz in 2021 Wimbledon.
@@ashleythomas4112That doesn’t count.
@@mysteriousaura8021 OK, but why not?
@@ashleythomas4112 Ashley, Federer was turning 40 he had knee problems and was a shell of his former self. This match here was the only time when it was justified.
Let’s not forget that Federer bageled Nadal in the 06 Wimbledon final. Both of them were capable of bageling each other on their best surface when playing at their best.
I think this proves the whole 1hbh weakness against high topspin nadal to be a myth... most points were error made by feds serve and volley, passing shot by nadal...not his backgand error
Sometimes Nadal screamed like Frodo in The Lord of the Rings. LOL! Since I was a kid, listening to him gave me that impression.
In which universe is a slaughter house show a classic? How in the universe is thus a classic match?
At 22 this level remains unmatched... alcaraz and sinner have shown some traces of that level but still far behind a peak nadal on clay....
I guess if Nadal would have been a right handed it would be pretty tough for him to beat Roger
Fed could have used drop shots more
Federer looked a shell of himself here, looks like a different man. Nadal simply overpowered him from start to finish.
