So glad I found this recipe. My husband insists on buying mouthwash. I know that the chemicals in mouthwash kill the good bacteria that aid digestion. I have emptied his bottle of Listerine down the sink and replaced it with this. I also added some eucalyptus and clove. It is very refreshing and really wakes the mouth up. Thanks 👍
Just a tip, the container you keep your mouthwash in should be in a amber glass. Just like the one your essential oil is in. Those oils have to be kept in a dark container because the break down the bottle their in over time if not in amber glass
If the bicarbonate of soda (Baking soda) is store bought check to make sure it doesn't have aluminium in it. You need organic food grade not commercial brands.
I tried it and found out that It's cool & refreshing! Thank you for good information. I will share this with my friends in Japan with my Japanese explanation and some additional medical information which I know of (as I am a medical doctor).
I love this recipe, I definetively will do this and will add Salvia too . Something I usually do when I use BS is to use hot water so that it dissolves well. I actually make my own deodorant with just water and BS and sometimes add essential oils. I put it in a spray bottle and voila. Also salvia is an excellent additive to a mouthwash. I'm going to try it because it has the following properties: Salvia officinalis is a medicinal herb used as an cosmetic, flavoring agent, It has antibacterial, antifungal, anticaries, antiplaque, antiviral, astringent, and other useful properties, it is also used in dental practice for the management of periodontal disease and to prevent halitosis.
Happy Wednesday 😊 thank you for this video. I was searching for a how to make a mouthwash video. I buy the large box of baking soda to. We have been using baking soda in our house since forever. My parents always kept it. When I was growing up in the 70's era there was no such thing as food grade baking soda. Thank you for sharing 😄 have a wonderful night, rest of week and weekend 😃😊😄👋🙇
I'm so thankful I came across your site! Was looking for homemade shampoo & conditioner recipe and here I am! Can't wait to learn from you guys! Thanks for sharing your wisdom, talent and hearts! Bless you!
kkb1130 It's made in such small batches we've never had it last more than a few weeks. Baking soda is fungistatic, meaning it can prevent mold from growing and spreading (although it cannot kill existing mold). Both tea tree and peppermint essential oils are both antifungal and antibacterial. With all of that going on, I would be confident that it should "keep" for at least a month. Hope that helps. Blessings.
@@diyNaturalVideos Hello! Can this mouthwash be stored in a plastic bottle? Or will there be some kind of reaction to the plastic? Personally, I prefer glass but because my mouthwash will be stored in the bathroom, where a glass container is likely to drop and break, I'm a little bit wary of using glass.
I was looking for a DIY oral rinse and gargle that’s safe for all ages. Especially during this Pandemic. Anything to help keep bacteria and viruses from colonizing inside the mouth and throat. This may be helpful because of the tea tree oil. I like your content. I’m a new subscriber. Thanks for sharing!🙏
Is the baking soda abrasive and damaging to the teeth? Also, what kind of essential oils do you use? Any that I have seen in shops say 'for external use only'. Does this mean it is unsafe to put int your mouth?
We worked with an EO provider to create the DIY Natural EO Starter Kit. It contains 12 great starter oils, and allows you to make all the recipes in our book. YT won't let me put the link in this comment so I added it below the video description.
bagglebollocks I would use organic coconut oil. It is a natural antibiotic and also whitens teeth. Besides dental benefits, you can eat a teaspoon a day to diminish sugar cravings; eat a tsp. when taking vitamin D3 or any other fat soluble vitamin (most doctors don't tell you that vitamin D is fat- soluble); use it for cooking; and amongst other uses, it can be mixed with baking soda to use as an exfoliator/face wash. Cheers to improving our health the natural way.
I may have missed your diy toothpaste vid. I normally use coconut oil with tea tree. As much as I love the smell and taste of peppermint, I can't use it because I take cell salts often and you can't use any kind of mint or camphor while on it. I use lemon EO in its place, but if you have a good recipe for the toothpaste, I would love to try it.
the problem here is, the essential oils don't mix with the water ...the oil doesnt get naturally distributed through the water or become one with it -- this is especially relevant since most people would use a mouthwash daily
Hey there so I was searching for natural alternatives to fluoride and stumbled upon your website! :D I think it is SO AWESOME and helpful for me! But do you think there is a recipe for an all-natural toothpaste without need to go out and buy things most people don't have lying around? I don't have bentonite (or something) clay or essential oils. I am only 12 so I can't order them... Anything easy and cheap???
Videos for DIYNatural.com Ok thanks! But what's the difference between baking powder and baking soda? I used them once in a hamster cookie recipe but me and my friend didn't label them so we accidentally used baking soda and it fizzed up then we used baking powder and it baked... lol
The question was: are both oils food grade oils or are they therapeutic oils...The answer was 'yes.' Does that mean they are both food grade and therapeutic. I thought there was a difference. In other words, I thought that food grade oils and therapeutic oils were completely different and that you could not swallow therapeutic oils? Just wondering...
Hi Besty, thank you for all your great, life-transforming recipes :) Would it be ok if I used 4 drops of peppermint oil and no tea tree oil? I feel that the homemade toothpaste recipe, though AMAZING, doesn't leave me with that sense of freshness that industrialized toothpastes do. So I'm excited to add the mouthwash to my mouth cleansing routine for this purpose, freshness. Also, on the blogpost, you mentioned filtered or distilled water. Would it be ok to use mineral water instead? Thank you so much.

Question for you - have you done any Ph testing on this mouth rinse? I am very curious where it's at as there is an ideal Ph level for saliva 7.1, I am going to use this recipe as a base but experiment with adding additional oils + xylitol. Listerine is horrible (cancerous stuff in it) but their formula also uses eucalyptus oil, thyme oil, menthyl oil, and oil of wintergreen (Methyl Salicylate). Reason I want to use some of their ingredients is because their essential oil formula has been studied and proven to work almost equally to flossing (nuts, I know! Found multiples on nih.gov. Although I will keep doing both). This dentist is on youtube, his recipe is Ph balanced best for the mouth - askthedentist.com/diy-ph-balancing-mouth-rinse/. I like how his recipe integrated Xylitol which has been proven great for teeth. Going to find a happy balance between all three while maintaining an optimal Ph balance of 7.1 :)

That amount of of essential oil will be gone in about 2 days.

Baking soda DOES NOT contain aluminum look it up that's a hoax Baking powder however does so u have to watch that
Here is an article about it HOWEVER always do your own research

Great video but are the essential oil’s food grade? What kind of oils do you recommend
Love this and I’m going to try it!🌿
THX BETSY .. just happened to have all the ingredients for this mouthwash ... your really pretty as well , easy on the eyes
Thank you for sharing will definitely try, stay beautiful 😘
Yes, wet your toothbrush before dipping into your toothpaste. And you can rinse with water and just use the mouthwash when needed. Blessings!
This is nice Betsy, thank you, I’ll definitely try it
this was fantastic, thank you very much!!! baking soda cleaning powder truly wonderful!
That's up to you, but I wouldn't depend on it as a cavity prevention, for that you'll want to focus on a great whole foods diet.
I made you diy mouthwash a couple of weeks ago. And i love it!!! it works great!!! thank you for sharing this!!! :)
I got baking soda water and tea tree oil but no peppermint will it still work
What brand of essential oils are you using?
Do we have to rinse with water after mouthwash with your mixture? Thank you, nice idea!
No, you dont need to rinse as it would be pointless.

Is it distilled water?
Is the baking soda abrasive and damaging to the teeth?
Also, what kind of essential oils do you use? Any that I have seen in shops say 'for external use only'. Does this mean it is unsafe to put int your mouth?
No, not damaging to teeth. We use the oils listed in the recipe and get our oils from mountainroseherbs.com.
i did the recipe it works
Where can you buy the oils from?
We use and recommend the organic oils from Mountain Rose Herbs: www.diynatural.com/go/mrh-essential-oils/
How long will this last me? I just made this and put it into a water bottle
Only 2 drop of essential?
I want MORE essential!!!!!!
Really good,thank you for sharing
Hi does the essential oils mix with the water ?
This made my mouth feel soooo FRESH and clean! And my breath smells like peppermint -3 but it's EXTREMELY disgusting when it's in my mouth
essential oils are toxic when ingested. you may be spitting it out but there's still some in your mouth that gets swallowed
Looks simple. Going to give it a try!
Do the essential oils dissolve in the water ?
No, simply shake before each use.
C what’s happens if I put more then 2 drops

What essential oils do you use? I love the size of those jars!
You can use whatever types you want. I think we used mint and tea tree.
What? Were you not paying attention? Did you fall and hit your head?
Can i use for my 4 year old daughter ?
Yes, just make sure she doesn't swallow it.
Great video, very simple recipe.
Is there an alternative to tea tree oil? How long is the mouthwash usable for?
I'm sure there is but we make it with tea tree. It never lasts us long enough to go bad.
I use lemon oil and i am really happy with the result. Additional info: I also add some sea salt and stevia as a natural sweetener.
Burak Erdemli Why would you use LEMON oil?! Lemons are highly acidic and erode the enamel greatly... Your teeth are in danger of chipping, etc!
***** I guess so, but still.

Why put baking soda?
Why, because a shoe won't fit in the jar!
Give it a shot and let us know how it turns out.
Can i use spearmint oil in place of tea tree oil?
I'm sure that would be fine, give it a shot and let us know.

1 month.

lol, kind of like Listerine but different, it doesn't burn.
