HOW TO GET TO TASHIROJIMA
Take a bus from JR Ishinomaki station to Ishinomaki Port. From Ishinomaki Port take the Ajishimaline Ferry (about a 40 min ride) and get off at Nitoda Port on Tashirojima.

One way: Adult 1230 Yen, Child 615 Yen
(The ferry makes 2-3 round trips a day depending on the season)
FOOD ON THE ISLAND
There are a couple vending machines that sell drinks.
Look for the signs that say Marin Raifu (マリンライフ) on the island, they will lead you to the one place that sells meals!
OTHER TIPS
Bring cash! I don't remember seeing any ATMs around
Bring food for the cats! Preferably wet food, I felt they lacked hydration
It's really freakin hot there in the summer, bring lots of drinks and sunscreen
Don't miss your ferry! There's only a few trips a day and not much accommodation on the island, so you probably don't wanna get stuck there

There should be a charity for the kitties on the Island that will pay for food, water, toys and medical care. These poor babies just warm and break my heart at the same time, they're so cute but they need more care...

This is pretty sad. The cat she was feeding in the beginning looked uncared for. You can't give them single kibbles like they were chickens, they need more.
@Bunker Sieben watch Rachel and Jun's video of that visit, she basically says that the life is not all that good for them there, there is not enough tourists and no one treats their injuries

If you ever happen to be in Greece, you should definitely check out the island of Hydra. One, it's gorgeous, and two, SO MANY CATS. :'3 Tashirojima reminds me a lot of it. SO CUTE.

When one cat of the island dies, the toy of the cat shrine puts one.
The road is given priority to cats, too, and the car stops until cats cross it.
The cats are taken good care of very much by islanders.

It's weird to me that cat island isn't as well known by tourists as a place to visit, but I guess when someone comes to Japan, Tokyo becomes one of the main places to visit. Awesome video!

We saw your apartment tour but I was wondering what your new place looks like that isn't a dormitory. I love seeing the architecture and furnishings available in other countries and the ingenious inventions other cultures have come up with to solve daily problems. I hope you post one soon .

I would love to visit this place, hahah. They remind me of the strays that live at Kyoto Seika University! There are two groups of cats that I knew of, one which was of about 5 black cats near where people would park their mopeds and bikes, and than these two cats that were always together by these side stairs. Everyday I would see them hanging around these specific areas, so cute! They are like honorary members of the school.

The island looks so peaceful, where i live there's a boat for cats instead of an island, there are also a few dogs on it but mostly abused cats that were left behind, sad situation :/ also lots of kittens.

I bought four 20 lb bags of dry cat food, two full double bags of canned food and 4, 25 lb bags of litter at Walmart last week. Now most of that wasn't for me, only one bag of food and one bag of litter and six cans were actually for me and my little herd. But on the way out the receipt checkers said "WOW lots of kitties huh?" They tried to put me on the spot to say how many. So I made a joke and said "I have a cat ranch just outside of town and we supply all the local Taco trucks!"
I do the same thing almost every week. They should expect it by now.

猫好きなのであんまり言いたくはないけど、田代島では猫へのエサやりは禁止という文面の掲示板があるんですよね
だから店に猫用のエサが売ってないんです
でも猫のエサを預かってくれるボックスがあるので、そこに入れておけば良いと思います
エサやり禁止の理由はいくつかありますが、猫が色んな食べ物を食べてしまうせいで肥満になったりして、健康的に良くないからです
初めて来たみたいだったので仕方のない事だと思いますけど、ルールなどがあるので気をつけて観光してくださいね！

To the people saying they're probably unhealthy cats, actually they are healthy. To live on that island it becomes your responsibility that if a cat appears sick you take it to the vet and also vets do go there on a regular basis to check on them. People have also left their cats their instead of tossing them onto the street, and a portion of those cats are fixed as well.
That looks so fun!! I would be sneaking a kitty home! XD
My cat, Repe, is now about that colored grey shown in the video but his fur used to be a darker grey color(. The only difference between the coloring is that my cat has white on his paws. Repe would now be close to 19 years old! I was about 9 years old when we found him in a camping place in America. Or rather he found us, as he came into our tent and curled up beside my little sister. We lived in our grandma's house in California for a whole year which mean't that we went to school there, too. It wasn't very easy communicating when you didn't know the language beforehand but luckily we kids had still been quite young.
Repe now resides with me in Finland but he has had a home in America and Brussels (Belgium).
They are very cute and beautiful cats.
