The Cat with the bent tail is the keeper of the shrine and she Meows non stop. I seen it and found this on another video about this Island

Update: There only seems to be nine people left on the island now and they are all elderly. It was decided to neuter all 200 cats on the island to stop their population growth.

I am worried that this island is doing worse now without tourism. And those cats worst of all without visitors.
I agree with you. Unless someone or a group of people volunteers to feed these cats, a lot of them or worst all of them, will end up dying of hunger. I would say the best solution, is to transport the somewhat healthy or healthy ones for adoption and euthanize the really sicks ones with low chance of survival. I would help if I could, but I don't live in Japan nor have money to help these cats.

+Dashka 155 It's pretty out in the middle of nowhere, so I don't think it can get that much tourism. Not too many people visit that part of Japan. I imagine that's why it's not very built up.

If I was a millionaire, I'd buy land on this island, open up a cat themed restaurant that either used local ingredients or payed the local stores to import ingredients (so customers who liked the food could buy the raw ingredients from the locals too) and use a portion of the profits to open a cat charity on the island that included a veteran.
Sadly, I'm not someone with that kind of money :(

Every now and again, I go to Paxi because I have family over there. And cats are normally shot, or put into bags and beaten into rocks until they're killed.
One day we found a kitten that was missing an eye and was very poorly, so we looked after it but couldn't bring it back because he needed to be tested before it could be brought to England.
Luckily the family that we had looked after the little guy but it isn't easy to take them. 3: Xx
if you want to take a cat from there i suggest you stalk it thoroughly first so you know if it has any family or bestfriends then you decide whether to take them all or leave them all

A 2kg bag of dry cat food is somewhere in the area of 1200 to 1500 yen, which is roughly 15 to 19$ Canadian. The 1200 yen variety would be the cheap stuff. Meanwhile on Amazon right now I (in Canada) just searched cat food, first result on the list is a 9.1kg bag of Whiskas with real chicken, 25$. You'd be better off buying it here and trying to ship it to them.

babybluehashyo Uh, I was hoping rachel and jun would. I know they'd give it to the right people. It would make their channel more popular if they started saving animals like that. As in, giving an island full of cats proper medical attention, water and food. This will bring more visitors to the island and promote tourism, more jobs being created and maybe a higher population count as well. All while doing a hell of a good thing. It's a win win situation that I think should start with funding from her users.
That would be awesome, but pushing the responsibility of a whole charity onto two people is a bit unfair. Fixing the situation on that whole island would be A LOT of work, even if they found someone to help.It's a great idea, and I'd definitely support it don't get me wrong, but starting a charity is no small feat
While I agree with you, they have a support $$ button on their channel. If they made a video and said the money donated, or a portion of, would be given to get the cats care...a lot of people would donate. They have a large platform they could use for a cause they care about. It is a large feat but the majority of the j vlogging community share a love of cats, meime, sharla, rach and Jun...etc. if they came together it would be amazing.

That dry food probably seriously dehydrates them, and they probably have trouble finding water to drink.
The good thing is that cats are able to easily drink salt water! They naturally filter out the salt, so they have plenty of water being surrounded by the sea ;)

I actually have this secret plan for my old age. I've decided I want to live out my last years on Aoshima, because even though it's not the main cat island it's further south which would make for a better environment for elderly me.
When I'm really old (and hopefully rich) I'll specify in my will that I want X amount of money given to my kids and various charities, but I'm also going to divert a bunch into a Swedish bank account which nobody but me will know about. I'll buy a house on the island and renovate it to make it very comfortable, then on my 90th birthday I'm going to fake my death, change my last name, and go straight to Aoshima, where I'll have a maid to tend to my every need. This way they couldn't find me even if they realized I wasn't dead and wanted to (but hell, my kids'll be so sick of me at that point they won't even bother) and I can live out my last years comfortable and surrounded by cats and never ever be bothered by anyone. When I do actually die I'll just be cremated and flung into the ocean.
It's going to be great.

Kuching,a part of Malaysia,was an island full of cats and kitten.
Ever since humans/travelers/explorers discovered,the cat population decrease because of abuse.
Thankfully,they stopped and the cats 'increase'(not that quickly).
That's why Kuching is pronounced 'kucing' which means cat in Malay.

Have you watched the video at all? Those cats are not in good health, many not neutered (meaning more cats meaning less food etc., more illnesses, injuries, fights, incest etc.), even though I love cats, I wish there was nothing like a "cat island".

JUN - please forward this video to an international animal organization. All these cats need to be neutered and vaccinated. Some need medical care, I´m sure there are international rescue organizations that could work with the Japanese authorities to help the people and animals in this island. Obviously, the person saying he or she feeds the cats is not in touch with the animals´ needs - as we clearly see in the video, they are in need of medical help...

Cats develop upper respiratory infections easily, but they're simple to treat. If you guys end up going back, first find some cat bottles, amoxicillin (アモキシシリン - fish antibiotics, sold often in pet stores or online) and a tiny bit of milk (goats milk or ヤギミルク if you can, but normal milk works as well). Mix 4 capsules (open and pour the powder into the bottle) with almost a full bottle of the milk and shake it.
Once you are done, feed them like babies. The antibiotics should help at the very least - especially with the kittens, the adults might need more.
I help a lot of cats in my free time. So that's just something you can do if you go back and would like to help them.
