Climbed Fuji-san back in 1974, when I was 16. I & another guy wound up racing each other from the 8th station to make the sunrise, leapfrogging over the established paths, which were already clogged with pilgrimage hikers. Made it, and was standing on the edge of the crater to look in when sirens started going off and folks were yelling at me "abunai!", "suwatte!" I sat down, thinking it was something religious to do with the sunrise (same time). Took pics of the sunrise, got my hiking stick branded and headed back down. Met my dad coming up and he asked me if I felt the earthquake. "What quake?", says I. "The one that nearly flattened the sleeping lodge we stayed at last night. The one that rolled a D80 Cat they used to haul sleds of water up the mountain....down." He made me swear I would NEVER tell Mom what I was doing when the quake struck.
Awesome story. Thanks for sharing!
What a wonderful experience. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I made the climb on 5-6 July 1990. I don't remember the station where we started but the tour group I was with was an all night climb. We didn't have any of the modern conveniences then, just a flashlight and the wooden walking stick that was branded at every station. We didn't stop anywhere along the trail, except to get the stick branded, just a steady climb all night arriving at the summit at sunrise. I was 43 yrs old at the time. Still have the walking stick propped up behind my bedroom door complete with the jingle bell and the Rising Sun flag. The video of the trail you made looks the same but we didn't see that many tourist/climbers back then. We were mostly alone, just hearing the other climbers by the sound of the jingle bells. Most of the huts were filled with climbers eating and drinking.
I miss taking tours from Willer's. It's so convenient. I've toured with them before and was pleasantly happy about it. I hope they would still have this tour for Mt. Fuji once tourism is back in Japan. I will definitely book a tour with their service again.
My son just turned 5. I can't wait til he's a few years older and we'll give it a go together! I would love to do it ASAP, but together with my boy...whoa...that'll be amazing!
It has now been five years. Have you done it yet?
@@benjaminbenson7473 Haha, yes, my question too.
My son and I saw your review. My son is 10 and we will take this tour next year when we go to Japan. I have heard it is very spiritual. I had gastric by pass so I am making this one of my goals for my weight lose surgery.
midala40 You guys will have an amazing time!!! :D It was definitely an experience I will never forget.
Sharla in Japan Thanks. I will attempted to film edit and post thi on your tube our whole trip to Japan. I was raised in Japan for 14 years due to my fathers work mainly in Osaka and Kobe area but I have been all over so I am excited to let my son view this amazing country and to experience everything that Japan has to offer. I hope our path will cross. I know my son would love to meet you. He is starting a food blog on UA-cam. Cheers
You did it?
Midala40/ D and A's Food Review Did you do it?
Sharla
Climbs Japans tallest mountain. Still looks amazing.
You go girl
This time you made it to the summit! 🗻 No rain, no mean hut staff, but the sunrise from the top of Japan! 🌄 Thanks for sharing your excitement and joy! 😄
Everything was wonderful!!! (Except for the horrible sunburn but that was my fault) haha Thank you for watching :D
Sharla in Japan That is so cool. I think I will have to get my knee in shape so I can do it with my daughter when we come to Japan. Arigatou gozaimasu.
The only thing that sucks is that I am not a gang member and I have a few tattoos and won't be allowed to enjoy the spa. :(
I attempted this when I was in Japan last and the exact same thing happened to me. Made it all the way to the overnight station, but bad weather meant we couldn't reach the top.
All that pain, hunger, dehydration, and an uncomfortable sleep for nothing. I didn't even see the summit at all due to the clouds.
I'm glad you were able to achieve this the second time around. It looks amazing though, I definitely need to try again when I am there next!
Thank you. I climbed Mt. Fuji in 2009 and this video brought back many happy memories. I have my walking stick with all the stamps as a great reminder.
It's such a great experience isn't it? :D
Thanks! I climbed last year and also had to turn around from 8th station due to weather. I love that you climbed back again! Will do this one more time next year.
Very upbeat, very positive, comprehensive, answers most questions, tells it like it is and make you want to do it! View of distance, view of crater, food! lodging, very cool.well done.
Gosh, what a gorgeous view. Thank you for sharing with us Sharla.
シャーラちゃんの動画を見ると笑顔を貰えるから嬉しいよ。ありがとう。
It looks soooo gorgeous at the top!! I want to climb a mountain now :D
Rachel & Jun Let's go climb Mt. Takao together sometime!! It's gorgeous :D
Sharla in Japan YESSSSSS!! And one day that mountain Chris was talking about, too!
i thought that mt fuji was to big to climb
if i lived in japan, or could visit, i still wouldnt be able to do it because of my wheelchair
If I come on a trip to Japan, this will definitely be on the to do list!
Gorgeous sunrise! Thank you for sharing @Sharla in Japan. ^__^
When I climbed Fuji we did it all at night ---a lot cooler and fewer people slowing down the climb. Sure it was dark, but there was a lightning storm off in the distance below us which was beautiful and we still got to the top well before the sunrise...
Thank you so much for taking us with you during this experience! It was amazing! And it must have been an amazing mix of emotions for you. Congratulations!
It is so amusing to see bits of your life and it's so nice to live them "with" you.
This has been added to my bucket list. You are right about it being super affordable as well! Thanks for sharing your journey!
Sharla, Thanks for this video and the info on Willer travel. I did the same tour on September 13. I climbed to the top of Fuji-san for the sunrise. It was amazing. We had some rain at the beginning, but it stopped for the rest of the trip. It was definitely the way to do it. They provided the dinner, breakfast and place to sleep so I didn't have to figure it out on my own. Once in a lifetime experience! Thanks again.
シェーラさん、初めまして。
いつも楽しく拝見しております。
今回もとても良かったです。
ありがとうございました。
Mt. Fuji's going on my bucket list :)
well that was a great video. Reminds me of my hiking trips in Japan. thanks for sharing your experience.
Total props to you for soldiering on to the TOP. I've been up there, and know what it's like when that air starts getting thin.
- Alan
Beautiful and one day I will go there when my kids are old enough. :) I love Japan.
You are beautiful
Kisses
Awesome. Thanks for sharing its on my bucket list!
Amazing video as always!! Thank you Sharla!!!!
This is amazing, thank you for sharing! Something else to add to my bucket list!
That view at the top was amazing!! With the fog behind each peak making that kinda shadow on the next was so pretty Sharla, deffo want to go there now, never wanted to before but this changed my mind.
Y
WOW ... this is one of those awesome life experiences that you will never forget. Thank you for sharing!
What an amazing & breathtaking view!!! Thank you for sharing!
I did it in 2011. One of the most beautiful sunrises I've ever seen and the atmosphere as it rises is amazing.
I remember years ago watching your original mt fuji video. I found that one so interesting because it made climbing fuji seem so challenging. Planning on climbing fuji myself this upcoming season and your original video was what got me interested in it. I hope the weather is much more like this second trip though.
At first when you showed us cloudy sunrise I was like meeh...
But when I saw 12:49 Holy crap! That was a great view ! Thanks for sharing Sharla.
Gratz by getting to the top !!!!!, I hope one day go there. and congrats for all your beautifull work too, Sharla, I always wait for your video.
登頂おめでとうございます。2人ともよく頑張りましたね。
What a great sharing! Thank you so much for the info!
Atta girl, way to go, yea, alright and congratulations on seeing the sun rise atop of Mt Fujii!!! Thank you for the tour Sharla 😀🎓🐈👑🐢
動画を観てたら外国の方が多くて驚きました。日本人は、一度は富士山に登ってみたいと思っているんじゃないかな。でも大変そう。綺麗な動画をありがとう。
That was a really cool video! THANKS.
I wish that Mt. Saint Helens hadn't blown it's dome a few years before I was born. Fuji and St. Helens were considered perfect dome volcanoes. Portland and Tokyo are sister cities, and that was one thing they had in common nearby in the view, but not so much anymore. Would have been cool to go up St Helens back in the day. We do have Mt. Hood though, which is also nearby, and you can drive most the way up.
GERMAN Subtitles now up thanks to Steven! :D
+Sharla in Japan can you speak german? :-)
+Shingeki Kana Lol she said that a dude named Steve did it, so no.
get enshine to do this
+Soto X9 he can't speak german
+Sharla in Japan Do you keep the hiking poles?
Great video thanks! Hope to go there this summer
That's wonderful. I have never tried and wanted to do. Someday after I come back to Japan, I will do.
Inspiring video. Really well done. Thank you for sharing and congratulations on summiting.
Beautiful! I'm SO glad you were able to go back and accomplish this, it's definitely a 'bucket list' thing!
That is a reasonable price for the full package, with all the extra gear, and the meals and hut to stay in.
That experience looks cosy! Loving the looks of the huts!
OMG the view, sunrise... so beautiful..
Thanks for sharing this beautiful video. Wow, this mountain is so crowded.
I live in Shizuoka Prefecture. Mt. Fuji looks from the home of the second-floor window.
akihiro0831 That's so cool!!! うらやましいです〜
Sharla in Japan
Winter of Mount Fuji to become snow-covered mountain is more beautiful than summer.
Sharla in Japan I never knew u climb mt.Fuji before, it looks awesome!🗻
I did the hike in 2014. But like with you, the weather was awful. I got to the top though, but we couldn't see anything. We almost strode straight into the crater because of the fog! But at the time we had no idea how deep it was.
Regardless, I feel that the trip was awsome.
My two most important tips to anyone who wants to do the climb is:
*Don't underestimate altitude sickness.
*The temperatures do get low on the top, so don't go there without proper clothing.
Really great video :) I really want to climb mount fuji now! 日本へ帰りたい!
Emelie A welcome!!🤩🤩
I'm climbing Mt. Fuji at the end of this month! I'm so excited. Thanks for the heads up for what I'm getting myself into.
eaglelord82 Have an awesome time!!! :D Prepare for both rain and sun since you never know how the weather will turn out up there!
Officially on my bucket list. Wow!!
I'm so glad you did it!!! Congratulations!
Thank you Sharla for your sharing. I from Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia hope one day will visit Mt Fuji.
I feel like I've watched about 4,567 videos of Mt Fuji climbs. This one rates high with the best of them. Thanks very much. I'm climbing on 4th August and am looking for clues as to what we need to wear etc. We'll buy all our gear......so trying to get it all at a budget price without skimping on gear efficiency and effectiveness.
That's awesomee!! I've always wanted to do it but it looks way too much for me to handle haha. The sunrise looked AMAZING!
***** Old people do it, you can too!
I have always wanted to do it too, but have never gotten the chance. Love you by the way! 😘
***** You could definitely do it!!! :D
Damn, this is pretty much perfect timing. I wanted to do the Fuji climb on my next trip to Japan and this tour is pretty much exactly what I wanted! I will almost definitely be taking advantage of this information and hopefully be doing so not too far into the future.
Amazing Sharla!!!! Still looking flawless at the summit hahaha, luv it.
Congratulations sharla!!! That looked like a lot of fun, I hope your sunburn gets better😋
You two are so cool. I was heartwarming sad , because of my age and disability. I hiked the Grand Canyon and took off on an aircraft carrier, so...I've had fun. Thanks for the memories..
Looks exhausting but so fun! Hopefully one day I can do this!
数年前富士山山頂からご来光を見たのを思い出しました。 富士山でも空気薄いの感じるよね。 早朝は気温数度だから寒いし。
This is a really nice video, thanks for sharing your experiences with us! 😊 I'm definitely interested in participating in this trip sometime.
Well done, Sharla, and you are pleasant as well.
I did this tour on the 29th July because of you and it was so amazing! Thank you for doing a video on it - we actually had the same guide!
I love you Sharla!!! The best!! 💓💓💓
Majo Marlo
Sharla in Japan Thanks for answer me! 😘😘
This was a really rad video Sharla! I loved it. ☺️✨👍🏻
This is soo cool. Officially on my list of things to do. Super sweet
That's amazing!! Congratulations and thanks for sharing the view with us :)
I was just up there Friday! We did a one day hike though. Started 5 am, took 5.5 hours to get to the top, stayed 1.5 at the top, then 2.5 to get back to station 5. It was rough but so awesome!
Sharla, ты ГЕРОЙ дня. :) Спасибо!!
Soooo awesome! Congrats on reaching the summit Sharla! My boyfriend and his mum also climbed Mt Fugi a few years ago, I don't think I would have the stamina for it. u3u
PeachMilky good
すごく、ためになる動画でした。
頑張りましたね!
I was so disappointed that I wasn't able to climb a few years back when I visited Japan but it is pretty cool to see the areas that we weren't allowed to go up due to weather.
Hiking Mt. Fuji is in my bucket list. That view is so beautiful. I'm so happy for you! :)
Amazing view Mt. Fuji. But I will be terrifying walking on top or looking over the edge if I was walking I will be drinking so much water stoping every min I'll be all hydrates. Thank you for sharing you video ☺️🎌🌹
great video sharla i climbed mt fuji with willer travel but when we got to the top it was cloudy so i didn't get to see the sun rise and i got really bad sunburn as well but i was so much fun
This is so cool! Congratulations on making it to the top!! I've wanted to climb The Fuj for YEARS, but didn't want to go through the hassle of getting out there. Thank you for showing us this, it's perfect and I think we'll go. I just worry because I'm super slow and I don't want to hold everyone else up! ^^;; SO wonderful that we don't have to go and buy all that gear! What an amazing adventure!
Jenny Silver They went at a really relaxed pace with several breaks which was awesome!! :D
Sharla in Japan I so wanna go now! XD
Sharla, this was definitely your best video. I've been watching your vids for like 4 years now and this is just great! Totally gonna climb Mt. Fuji myself one day, thank you for inspiring an putting your heart in everything you do
wow cool video sharla! and mt Fuji looked really cool too! 😊
That looked amazing! I love your videos, Sharla, you have a wonderful personality :) It really makes my day when I see you've uploaded one!
That is so amazing! Thank you for sharing your trip with us all!
すごーい!英語を話せるスタッフがいたり、色々とサポートしてくれる施設があるんですね。それでも、最後に必要なのはやっぱり自分の体力+気力ですね。あと運!今回は晴れてくれて良かったですね!Thank you for your amazing video!
I hope one day I can afford to travel out of the US ☺️ I need to see other lands, cultures and experience the beauty of this amazing planet!!!!
Manage to do it?
Ah that sunrise looks well worth it!
That must have been very exhausting! But the sunrise looked very sweet. I bet it looked even better than on camera.
Definitely adding this to my bucket list. Thanks for uploading this Sharla, I loved it!
This video is very good, and very helpful to me. I plan to climb Mount Fuji on July, 2017.
Amazing! Such a cool experience.
That looked so amazing! You guys were above the clouds. Very beautiful sight. And congratulations on making it up there. One day I wish to do the same.
Very interesting video, Sharla. Keep up the good work! :)
im coming to japan on 24th, so I might have to book this as Fuji is on my list of things to do, perfect timing!
Oh climbing mount Fuji is definately on my bucket list now!
That is just amazing! I am definitely doing this when I get out there!!!
I climbed mount Fuji at a relentless pace climatizing for short periods it was a piece of cake but then again I'm an experienced hiker and I have trained for Everest but the exhibition fell through ONE DAY Everest one day....
I climbed Mt. Fuji not too long ago! Its an amazing experience and the tour guides are soooo nice!! I loved mine! I only climbed from one station to another (5th to 6th) and it was really hard for me. I'd love to do it again though!!
Thanks for the video, there is about 150 scout leaders who are currently on the world scout jamboree in yamaguchi who are climbing Fuji next weeks. So thanks for the video of what we can expect!
Peter Hopton Awesome!! So glad it's helpful :D
Thank You so much for all your tips! Next year I'm going to visit Japan and my dream is to climb Mt. Fuji. 😃☺️🗻
I can watch all your videos all day. lotsa good stuff :D
