Thank you for such a thorough and in-depth video. Being 13 plus years out from surgery I know the value in getting followed up no matter what. Not just in the weight loss phase but needing help and knowing you all are there to help us. Thank you for the reminder that obesity is a disease and it’s managed.
Thanks for watching this one too. The main change that would apply to this one is that meds (pharmacologic treatment) have improved dramatically and seem to be on track for additional substantial improvements.
Had surgery in 2001, lost 150 pounds but I have gained 100 back. I am glad to listen to your video. Hope to get back into feeling better and healthier. It's not looking good for the wrong purpose but looking good for myself. To be able to enjoy life again.
I hope this can help someone watching had the gastric sleeve in 2018 by the summer of 2019 I was down to 130 pounds. It was amazing. I was doing great. When Covid hit I started day drinking and I gained back all of the weight in a matter of a year and a half. Please please please do not drink alcohol. I did not eat my way back to gaining weight. I drank my way.
I'm so sorry to hear about your struggle, and I agree that alcohol is a significant concern after bariatric surgery. This video might also be useful: ua-cam.com/video/AwOsPyFke2o/v-deo.html
@@DoctorJP thank you so much. I will check it out. I love your videos. They’re all super helpful and amazing. I have since stopped drinking alcohol completely. Next month I will be having the conversion to the Bypass 👍🙏 I strongly recommend Doctors to really educate patients on how critical of a role alcohol can play. In 2018 that education was not passed along to me. However I am grateful where I am today and I take my sobriety very seriously. After all alcohol in any volume is simply poison to the body.
My smart watch shows me the level of excercise I am doing. Warm up, fat burning, aerobic, anaerobic and extreme. I probavlt used to do anaerobic and extreme often. I happy and relaxed at the fat burning stage which I guess is the best. I think once or twice a week, crank it up and be more hard core 💪 No sweet things!!!! My weakness! Before surgery it was forbidden but would binge anyway. Protein bars seemed really bad. Now... i have 1 protien bar a day. Low sugar 1.5g and 20g protein. Chocolate layer and it REALLY fills me up!!! Which cna only be a good thing 😊❤ ????? What are your thoughts? 😬
Thanks for watching @frankiefranfraser! At the risk of disrupting a good pattern that you have going, I have to say that I'm not a fan of protein bars. Many of the fillers and chemicals and sugar substitutes in those bars lead to increased hunger overtime. Even with that reservation in place, I definitely support what is working for you, and I also support the recommendations of your bariatric team. Best of luck on your journey!
@DoctorJP Yep. I am thinking of having one every other day or one twice a week after December. Sometimes I don't feel like I even want one but I have it anyway, because it is there and I told myself one a day will be ok, and they're a delicious sweet treat. The texture of the grenade bars are just so satisfying too. Doughy 😍 Yep, need to slowly get to one twice a week. Start with 1 every other day, perhaps even start that now 🤷♀️🤔 I went to Turkey for it and I don't speak to my team that much. I can msg when ever but I already know the answer about the protein bar 😂🤦♀️ Is probably the reason for my weighloss stall. Stayed the same for weeks. Possibly stretched my pouch already as I was keen to get nutrition in. There is a diet book 5:2 and the recent one fast 800... Yesterday I decided to get on the fast 800. 800 calories a day 2 or 3 times a week. There is a protein shake, 400 calories per 500 ml, so planning to have 2 of those in a day 2 or 3 times a week. I have upped my excercise and last time I did lose 1Ib, need to weigh myself again. Been swimming everyday for over an hour, so I am hoping something has shifted 🤞🍀 Definitely need to probably eat less, and perhaps just work out 3 meals a day. Even if they're small and I worry about nutrition But if I was that worried about nutrition then I would never have git onto the protein bars 😬 They're really expensive too. I bought boxes of 12 in bulk. Almost £3 each in the shops, some shops £3.30 Worked out less that £1.50 when I got them in bulk. Having 1 a day is a miracle. Before having yummy food sitting there was impossible. (If you can even call it a food? Lol) I will quit them, but if I get desperate knowing I can have 1 a day, no weight gain, I will have 1 😅 Can't completely cut everything out. Must focus on my weightloss goals and eat healthy protein. Eat healthy proper food 💪 I got this. Only eat when hungry. Sometimes I am not hungry but plan to eat certain healthy thing. I used to see bananas as something to avoid but have been having 1 a day with peanut butter. Peanut butter isn't allowed either. 7g protein on the pot, any excuse 🤦♀️ Need to choose 1 a day of banana and peanut butter OR a grenade protein bar, never both! 🤦♀️ I have got this 💪🥳 I am doing it 💪
Very informative video. Thank you. So, do you believe it would be better to just put two teaspoons of real sugar in your tea /coffee instead of using artificial sweeteners?
lol that's a logical conclusion, but the message that I give to my patients in practical reality is that anything that tastes sweet is working against your metabolic health. This is true whether the sweet flavor is real or fake. This doesn't mean that you have to live without any sweet flavor at all, but it doesn't mean that you should be very careful with it and use sweet flavor as a treat, not a foundation of your food plan.
Need to wrap the new pouch in a mesh bag, so it can't stretch back out. LOL! I'm only half-joking... I'll be having a gastric bypass in a month or two. :)

Wonderful video. As it’s 2024, as mentioned I’d love to know if there’s a need for an updated version now 🙂

I wish my surgeons had an educational platform like yours..they dont teach us anything and they have no resources for education

Best of luck on your journey! And yes, surgeons have looked at "wrapping" or other support materials but nothing has been found that is sustainable.
@@DoctorJP Wow! Interesting!
