    Not only is Dr. Pilcher a skilled and compassionate surgeon, these informational videos he offers are almost as important as surgery in helping patients recover health and live well as *educated* consumers. I am so grateful to have found him. He has given me a new lease on life....Thank you, Dr P!
    Lesson#1: "Food is hormonally active" -- this is the most important lesson I've learned from Dr. P. If this is true, not only does food impact the metabolic system, it must also impact mood and thinking (which are influenced by hormones). Wow.... "Let food be your medicine." (Not Dr. P, sorry, that was Hippocrates ;-)

      You're very kind to watch. It might be time for an update, but tbh I'm still working my way through new topics that I haven't covered at all yet.

    These videos are great thank you so much. So if I’m working out doing strength training and cardio 6 days a week. Should I still just eat when hungry and not worry about having a high amount of protein. So many mixed messages. This video makes sense but iv read i should be having at least 70 grams a day eating 6 small meals. This feels unnatural. Your video makes more sense. Could you enlighten me on your view.
    Thank you from Australia

      Thanks for watching! You're correct that my views on food are different than most. The video really says it all in terms of how I go to this point, but in a nutshell it's been my experience that the most effective and most lasting strategy for weight control after bariatric surgery is:
      1) trust your new (rebalanced) hunger
      2) nurture that more healthy hunger by minimizing carbs and chemicals, by exercising regularly, and by monitoring/maintaining your vitamin levels

    Great and informative videos. I'm still in the process of getting gastric bybass. My question is. Is herbalife ( Im nit sure if you have heard of it).ok in the long run a year or so after surgery? I've heard different opinions.

    • @DoctorJP
      @DoctorJP  7 місяців тому +1

      I've heard of herbalife, and I'm not aware of any specific problems with it, but I do have two reservations:
      1) you really should check with your bariatric team
      2) in general, I like people to have natural food not processed formulas

    I was curious, I do a lot my own canning (including pressure canning my own soups and stews) and those foods are shelf stable but I have done the processing. I’ve always considered those really healthy because I control the sodium and ingredients but the canning is technically a process. Would those foods still be healthy?

    • @DoctorJP
      @DoctorJP  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for asking. When I speak against processed foods I'm usually talking about added chemicals and chemical preservatives. It seems like a home canning process with natural ingredients including salt would be OK.

    what are the three best brands for vitamins?

    • @DoctorJP
      @DoctorJP  6 років тому +5

      The three established bariatric vitamin brands are: Bariatric Advantage, Thorne, and Celebrate. They are all available for internet purchase, though you should ask your bariatric team for particular recommendations.

      Robert,
      I'm sorry I missed your question back when you posted it. The three brands of vitamins that we trust the most for bariatric patients are Bariatric Advantage, Thorne, and Celebrate.

    Dr pilcher do u know of a bariatric supplement in Ireland thanks

    • @DoctorJP
      @DoctorJP  2 роки тому +1

      My first suggestion is to check with your bariatric team (I'm guessing they are in Ireland?) for their recommendations. If that's not practical for some reason, I'm pretty sure that the three brands we believe in (Bariatric Advantage, Thorne, and Celebrate) are all available by internet order.

    What’s your take on erythritol?

      I think because it is a fake sugar, it is probably just as metabolically disruptive as real sugar. Sorry.

    What about dairy?

    • @DoctorJP
      @DoctorJP  5 років тому +4

      I believe that dairy products can be part of a healthy food plan, though I recommend consuming them in moderation. Interestingly, it seems that the normal-fat version of dairy products like milk or cheese can be as healthy or perhaps more so than the "skim" varieties because fats in moderation can promote satiety.
