    About All In The Family:
One of the most acclaimed comedy series of all time, All in the Family with Archie Bunker as the irascible, highly opinionated, working-class family man who viewed the world on his terms and his terms only. When not arguing with his liberal son-in-law, "Meathead," Archie took refuge in his long-suffering wife, Edith, who tries her best to understand Archie's conservative ways and outdated beliefs.

I was born in 79 but I still grew up with all in the family and especially the jeffersons. Archie Bunker and George Jefferson were both bigots and ogres, they were flawed characters but at the end of the day they were decent men in thier own stubborn and small minded ways. By the social moral standards of today they would be on the fringe...especially archie bunker but back in the 70s everybody had someone like that in thier family or at least knew somebody like that. No room for political correctness and all just good laughs!! Because they represented real characters so well!

The scene is hilarious, but its whole purpose was to expose, through ridicule, the baseless bigotry that remained endemic to the older generation of that period. They helped people to understand different cultures and have a good time. Cancel culture fails to realize that taking everything away ,doesn't solve anything. People are stil going to be people . If you don't like someone, thats your personal choice. You don't need to burn down a whole community or take away history. That definitely will not bridge the cultural gap.

There is so much posing, acting, walking on eggshells and lack of honesty and authenticity. There is not room for people to have real encounters where they can explore their attitudes and show their vulnerabilities because everyone is always guarded and ready pounce. on anyone who does open up and the language police and puritans are always looking for any chance to label someone "racist" just as the puritans labelled anyone who disagreed with them a witch or the McCarthyites labelled anyone who criticized the system as a commie.

Norman Lear gave his wonderful actors excellent material and they ran with it magnificently. Today there would be too much fear to show all of the sides of racism and many of the other issues that were discussed on Lear's shows. It would be seen as politically incorrect, but that's where many young people today are missing the education that a show like this provided. These characters aren't black and white...no pun intended. There is a lot of gray to characters like Archie and it's in his grayness that we find the true gold of a show like this. Lear's hook was making you think it was all about comedy, but it was really about the lessons learned. His insite into our shared humanity is a beautiful thing to behold! If you haven't checked out his other shows, I encourage you to do so...each is like a fine work of art...each a masterpiece.

Indeed. Archie Bunker was a bigot, but it didn't come from a place of hatred but ignorance. A big part of the tantrum was grounded in the difficulty an interracial couple could face. Later on he buys his niece a Star of David, which is one of the most heart rending scenes in all of television.

The irony of people clamoring for this kind of show as it represented the 'good ol' days' is that All In The Family was literally WOKE AF having no issues centering non traditional things like interracial dating, women's rights, abortion, etc. Y'all just so badly want to be bigots again without consequence that you totally missed the point of what Archie's character represented. It's been over 50 years...just how things were different from 1920 to 1970, they SHOULD be different from 1970 to 2020. It says something about YOU if you're still stuck in 1970. This show was necessary because the country was changing post-Civil Rights Movement and integration. Why the hell are we still having to deal with the same issues from a 1/2 century ago?

The country changed but not for the better.
That's the entire point. The nation today is in a cultural shambles, heavily balkanized, less unified, more violent, more polarized, more crowded, more unequal, and more indebted. While standards of living have increased dramatically for the poorest Americans, including the poorest blacks, the nation has deep structural issues that no amount of government spending can repair. Demographics is the most powerful determinant of a nation's identity, and America is sliding into Third World dysfunction and cynicism, thanks to 50 years of aggression and subversion from the left.

This one episode was definitely an all time classic and one I'll never forget Archie's niece dates Lionel Jefferson and Edith tries to hide the picture Jean Stapleton played her part to perfection I loved her and she was fantastic and Carroll O'Connor was the perfect fit for Archie in this episode my favourite line was when Archie's niece Linda said to Archie pretend you're flying first class and Mike replied that's going to take alot of pretending and finally when Archie discovered Linda was dating Lionel he said they're sitting together on the couch. But when Archie and Henry Jefferson both argued it was the best Archie asked Henry my family wants to know what you're going to do about him? And then Henry replies my Family wants to know what you're going to do about her ha ha they were both the same then there was boy boy! They forgot theirselves Henry said to Lionel now you've got a lot to learn boy and Archie replied boy boy.
