About All In The Family:
One of the most acclaimed comedy series of all time, All in the Family with Archie Bunker as the irascible, highly opinionated, working-class family man who viewed the world on his terms and his terms only. When not arguing with his liberal son-in-law, "Meathead," Archie took refuge in his long-suffering wife, Edith, who tries her best to understand Archie's conservative ways and outdated beliefs.

Archie Bunker and George Jefferson...truly the Unstoppable Force meeting the Immoveable Object.
The clash of Titans!
Two American TV Icons.
Two Alpha Males collide!
Only watched an All in the family occasionally so never saw this (a bit before my time) but the chemistry between these two was electric!
Sherman's brilliance proved why Norman Lear was willing to wait for him, after his Broadway play finished its run!
He is very loved here in Italy too!

Sherman was fire 🔥 as George Jefferson. Perfect foil for Archie.
The golden era of television...George and Archie together was comedy perfection 😂😂😂😂😂
"why is it you can always remember everything except how to work" 😂
*woik😂
True even today!
@@mickey34jbwat???
The writers and producers didn't create enough scenes with Archie and George.😂
That was on purpose to make there meetings more special.
@@Rich71074glad they didn’t milk it. Then again they gave the Jefferson’s their own series haha
This was the coolest thing to me as a kid Archie bunker and George Jefferson in the same room together
I didn't realize it was a spinoff when I was little and I thought the tv was messing up when it cut to George and Louise's house lol
I loved how Norman tied 4 shows together and come up with 3 successful spinoffs the man was genius RIP Norman Lear
Sherman Hemsley embodied George Jefferson! That dude hated everybody! 🤣
He and Archie were just alike.
Do you me George embodied Archie? Cuz from my understanding Sherman Hemsley hated no one and everyone loved him. He was actually quite the opposite of George Jefferson in that he was quiet, shy and not bombastic at all.
He was the black version of Archie.
@@udhoopHe means George.
Sherman Hemsley said he was very nervous before his entrance because the show was such a hit and he had done mostly stage up to that point.
Fun facts: Sherman Hemsley was Norman Lear's original pick for George Jefferson to be on the show. But he had other acting obligations. So they invented "Uncle" Henry Jefferson as basically a stand-in until Sherman could start working. It took a lot longer than expected.
This show "Henry's Farewell" is aptly named. After he walked out the door in this episode, he was never seen again on either All in the Family or The Jeffersons. Or anywhere else.
Louise had Henry go to dinner at the Bunkers cause Archie wouldn't go to their house when invited. He had tickets to Mets game that he got from work and told Edith to tell them she sprained her ankle and they couldn't make it. Louise said well bring dinner to your house. Archie only did it cause Edith asked him. She said she never asked fir nothing and said please do it for her. Archie gave tickets to Mike and Gloria. This was when Mc nabb sold the house to Jefferson s. He had the petition on table between chairs which George , Henry read. They got to talking about God and that was it. Edith jumped up a ran to kitchen which Louise asked why she lied. Then she came clean and admitted this wasn't her husband George. Archie then goes on about how he had plans and was insulted by the slight. Finally he says we'll where is he. Louise. He is at Shea Stadium, he had tickets to the Mets game. The look on Archie face was classic.
Mel Stewart was part of the cast of ROLL OUT, a sitcom set in WWII France, 1973-74. Later he was in the cast of the BEWITCHED spinoff, TABITHA. He also appeared as Isaac's uncle on LOVE BOAT, w/ Isabel Sanford as Isaac's aunt.
It's funny that he was cast as George's younger brother, as Stewart was more than 7 years older than Hemsley.
Henry’s last appearance and
George’s first appearance.
I'll bet any amount of money that to have that amount of on screen chemistry between actors that Carrol O' Connor and Sherman Hensley were the best of friends. 1:22 The level of acting with those two in this scene is incredible.
I noticed that too. I just watched another episode where Mike got the job offer in California and they met up again. He seemed to like Carrol under the banter or at least enjoy going at it with him. Its too bad we have so few scenes where they met.
It would have been neat if Archie & Edith came to see the Jeffersons on their show but to my knowledge there was only one time, when just Edith came by to see their new apartment.
I heard that they were friends!
Always loved when two sitcoms got combined.
The Jeffersons was a spin off of All in the Family
This wasn't the two sitcoms being combined. This was before they split into two different sitcoms. George Jefferson and Louise started as characters on All In The Family.
“I was always asking for a little brother…you know how poor we was; all we could afford was you!”
Classic line
Two absolute LEGENDS.
Clash of the Titans...😂😅😂😅😂
I love how both men called each other by their last names. Never their first
All duded up with a flower in his lapel, or is that one of those things you squirt in your eye? 🤣Too funny.
😂
The dynamic duo
The 2 Greatest TV Men of ALL Time. Archie Bunker and George Jefferson
Isabel and Sherman were the best duo too. Worked so well together❤
Sometimes you hate to see greatness slowly dissipate and leave and then they physically do but at the same time you do remember that greatness the laughter the great moments like they family but in a sense they were cause we grew up watching or grew watching
Best three minutes in all of television.
Sherman Hemsley said that when Isabel Sanford met him, she said he was "all neck." Seeing how thin he was back then (135 lbs. at the time), I can see what she meant. He said that when he was waiting for his cue in this first appearance, he was standing on the other side of that door terrified, worried about forgetting his lines and feeling like he wanted to run away, but he just focused on the job and got through it. It's fascinating how many people in the spotlight suffer from anxiety.
You know, in a way, Archie helped get George into the house to do the toasting, since George said he didn't want to come inside. But Archie got him inside so that he could toast his brother. That's how I look at it, anyway 😳 I always believed that Archie's a good guy under all that bluster.
That was the point!! 😩👀
Those 2 were PERFECT
Sherman definitely made The Jefferson's. He was way better than the brother. He nailed the role of George. ( Isabel was great too)
Henry was in some of the most hilarious episodes of AITF ever.
The show had a great cast. Bentley, Florence, and Tom Willis were perfect for their parts.
Mike Evans was great as Lionel.
@@docadams7099 Yes he was.
Bunkers perfect nemesis was Jefferson!!! 👏🏻
"All in the family" was and continues to be one of the great American television shows.
Sherman Hemsely stoled the entire episode with his first appearance. R.I.P.
Movin' on up🙏. 🤓😎✌🏻
He remains rest here in El Paso, Texas
There’s no such thing as “stoled” 😄😄😄😂😂.
Love their banter
George and Archie's racist tennis matches were always the best!
🤣🤣🤣
One of the greatest TV shows ever! Ground-breaking humor!
This was great. it ranks right up there with Archie meeting Sammy Davis Junior. I loved it. thank you for sharing this comedy gold.
So classic. I want this on VHS
DVD
OMG, these 2!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I used to laugh my ass off at these 2!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😩
You couldn't make television like this today. Humor has changed drastically.
Humor hasn't changed a bit. The people have just lost their sense of humor.
honestly this show would be a hit if it was made today. far more unhinged offended over everything type American than the normal type American. um said that ass backwards less offended ones than normal ones.
Thank political correctness and the left's insatiable lust to cancel people they disagree with and welcome to 2024.
Black and white version of each other lol
Yeah, for real!
A show that couldn't be made today 😅😅
Iconic moment , great characters, great show.
Two of the greatest comic actors we will ever see. They changed television and America for the better.
Sherman did really good. I saw the live with Jamie Foxx. He did a great job as well. But Sherman was super awesome. Archie was hilarious towards Michael at the end. He never gave him a break. LOL.
In an interview Sherman said that he was very nervous with his first scene here on the show but he pulled it off masterfully.
Sherman was also funny in Amen.
George was on a roll!!!! 😂😂😂😂
These two were the most priceless thing on TV . at that time and maybe still are .
2:19 Hilarious
The Best Of The Best ❤️
The only time the Jefferson brothers were seen together as Henry never appeared on the spinoff The Jeffersons
Yes and that's a shame. It would have been great to have had more regular or semi-regular cast members on the show, especially George's brother.
@@AlanSmitheeman yes I don't know why they never brought Henry back. There must have been some reason why he couldn't work
@@c.rutherford The Henry Jefferson character was a placeholder for the George Jefferson character until Sherman Hemsley could be cast. He was under contract in the theatre circuit and couldn't join the ALL IN THE FAMILY show until his contract was up. But they didn't keep Henry around because they would have to pay more for another regular or semi regular cast member. It's all about money and not art when it comes to Hollywood TV and movies.
They had Henry's son (Raymond, played by the legendary Gary Coleman) appear in the Jeffersons, but for some reason, they never did have the Henry character appear even once... in the entire 8 year run of the show.
Sherman Hensley was one of the best character actors of all time.
Bravo 👏👏 too the Writers & Producers of those Great Programs. The combined Cast's on those Show's were just so unbelievably Talented & couldn't have been any better Chosen than they Were. Thank You for the Great Memories ❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️.
George was so awesome
This made my day!
I wish Archie would have appeared on The Jeffersons.
“Why is it you can always remember every thing except how to work.” Archie was a character in a television show and that line is relevant in 2024.
People like you remind me that Sherman didn’t march far or long enough
And that was the first and last time we ever saw George's warm and gentle side... 😅
Love this show.
At least back in the Good old Days...people laugh about problems..and it became a wonderful show!! I Love Achey and Edith :::❤
So many spinoffs from one amazing show
George Jefferson against Archie Bunker followed by Tom and Helen Willis
Also Mr Bentley
And Florence Johnston
Archie and Jefferson were like brothers with how that butted heads all the time.
Such a great show!
Archie and Henry were Mr favorite!!!
Louise, I will tell them when I 'm joking...😂. 🤓😎✌🏻
I love watching both the Jeffersons and All in the Family. There are great shows.
I had forgotten the original George Jefferson. Between Meathead & George, they made Archie's head explode. Ha.
Sherman Hemsley brought the character to life. Those writers were the best.
Two titans finally meet.
3 comedy geniuses
Beautiful series
"who always reclined" 🤣
I think what still amazes me the most is that Sherman Hensley was only 35 at the time
Wow, he looks much older! I suppose that's because of the gray hairs!
@@gabrielesolletico6542they made him look older. I think his character was supposed to be close to 50 year old. A few episodes later they increased the gray in his hair.
And he was going bald, which helped, too.
Yup, for sure.@@mbd501
Oh, so they weren't his real hair? Were they coloured?@@GoldFinger34
so good
LOVE LOVE LOVE ❤️
HYSTERICAL
Funny thing: despite the fact that George and Henry are brothers, this is the only time we see them both. Henry never appeared again on AITF or on The Jeffersons.
The Clash of the Titans
Gold.
Great. !
This was not the first time George? Met Archie. Henry acted like he was george in the episode. The great thing about it was Archie only did it cause edith asked to. She said i have never asked for anything in 26 years. So please archie do this for me. Look it up it is one of my top 5 favorite episodes
I don't know why but George reminds me a little of SAS lol
#ARCHIEBALLBUNKER greatest sitcom, actor of all times!
Archie and George classical comedy
Love em 💎💖😻🍁🌿🦚
Classic 😢
George Jefferson knew how to handle Archie Bunker well.
Oh the humanity!!!😂😂😂😂
"...always reclined to cross my threshold..."
A great line that I couldn't even laugh at because I was too caught up in Archie and George's on-screen chemistry.
So poor could never have a brother so we had you LOL
That was a cool show what is real interesting as to read the real facts on these people that were in the show they’re quite different than what you think
Can you imagine having Fred Sandford on this show too??😂🤣
How about Harriet Olsen and Frank Burns?
Question if Archie and George had a genuine argument shouting match who would win?
I loved the episode of The Jeffersons when George attends a KKK meeting, thinking that it's a meeting about dealing with neighborhood crime. He's all enthusiastic and keeps saying how much he believes in their cause until they try to throw him out and he finds out why! 😆 But then ironically, the top guy starts having a heart attack and there's only one man in the room who knows CPR. George Jefferson!
Interesting. Henry never once appeared on THE JEFFERSONS
😂😂😂😂😂
All In the Family encapsulated the changes taking place in society. Some (not all) African Americans were finally succeeding and moving up the economic ladder (beyond their White contemporaries). The Bunker family was perpetually poor/lower middle class and were desperately trying to hold onto their piece of the American pie while the Jefferson got their piece and a little bit more. The Bunker home never changed during the entire series (no updates/new furniture).
Archie struggled with the notion that the economy was leaving him behind and there was no real retirement for him or Edith. I can understand why the Bunkers of the time were bitter and confused.
Archie and George, it is quite obvious that the movie "Godzilla vs King Kong" is loosely based on this scene.
Before answering a door of Archie Bunker, George Jefferson did not knock it instead.
I wish Archie would’ve met Fred & LaMont Sanford
AB and GJ 2 OGs
"That's mighty white of you, Henry"
And Sang Manny
Henry Jefferson left George Jefferson came
the house looks like married with children house...same layout
Never thought I would ever see Archie Bunker marry a black woman!! IYKYK LOL
