    We’re looking into this kit for our church. Replacing an acoustic kit. I had always hated the sounds e-kits provided. After talking with a friends of mine that has this kit at his church and watching numerous reviews, I’m sold.

      I used to have a few acoustic kits and I bought two cheap alesis surge kits and put them together and hooked them up to my computer and ran superior drummer for the sounds and never looked back. I bought my FIRST dual set of alesis in 2008. I've bought 5, and went from superior drummer 2 to superior drummer 3. Still play acoustic SOMETIMES, but its really not worth the hassle, noise, etc. The sounds on this NEW high-end alesis kit seem to be on par with superior drummer, however, I'd have to grab a kit to do a shootout.... I make my own E-snares anyway so the snare I'm currently using would just be ported over into the new kit for the shootout. But the e-kits have been the way to go for years. Some of the stuff you gotta mod to get it to "feel" correct but its not much hassle and the long-term payoff is massive.

      E kits are good to have but the reason roland is considered the best is because of reliability. Trust me it's very easy to break e kit triggers. You can soldier them back together sometimes but then they'll just detach again. That shit almost never happens with roland or yamaha. But alesis? All the time

      @@hugostiglitzracing866 Yepp! I've had my first Roland PD-21 kit since 1987. I ran through more brains (Yamaha PT-X8, Roland R-8, TD-7, TD-6) before EVER having to replace a single tom or snare pad. At first I had real Zildjian cymbals until worship leader (at the time) said find a way to quiet those down, so I bought some PD-7 rubber pads for cymbals, at first they were okay, but because of the composite graphite Aquarian X-10 sticks I use, the rubber started to "crumble". This did not happen with wood sticks on one I used at home for rudimental practice! Then I got some CY pads and every thing was great for quite awhile, until the triggers started to fail. It was only last June during Sweetwaters drum month I broke down and got a new TD07-KVX mesh kit because 2 of my 5 PD-21's finally (after 36+ years) started to mistrigger. I did have 4 Alesis Turbo Mesh (black on black) pads from eBay as replacements, but quickly took them off (after false triggering) after finding 3 more new 8" mesh Rolands for cheap on eBay, to go with my 3 10" mesh toms and 12" snare from KVX kit so now I have a "2 up 2 down and 2 over" (6 tom) setup with a double kick pedal. I wasn't happy with VH-10 hats though so I found a cheap set of stainless steel Mosico Mute low volume cymbals that I love with a real hi-hat again!

    I don’t think Roland has much to worry about. Yes the module is definitely a step above in some regards but you have the TD-50x where you can send each channel individually to the mixing board and this module you can only send left and right. Both still have yet to create a snare throw option, which most drummers use. The prime has some good features and a touchscreen would be awesome. But there’s a few thing the td-50x has above this set.

  • @992ras
    @992ras Місяць тому +2

    The crazy part I saw and no other drum company has done this is with rimshots you can do it 360 around all the drums normally you can only to this on the snare drum but to be able to it on all the Tom’s is pretty cool cause now you can do rimshots while actually hitting the Tom like on acoustic drums. Also the 360 cymbals with choke all around is pretty cool as well. Man did Alesis really step the game up on this set. The module itself is worth the price seems very simple to use and 10 inch touchscreen especially since it is a computer it has 128 Gb of Ram crazy. I still don’t know what type of processor or the cores of the cpu. That means you probably could even upgrade it to be even more powerful of a CPU and add more ram

    • @Iamadrummer
      @Iamadrummer Місяць тому

      Lots of e-kit companies have done this as there is a switch on the module that goes fom rimshot sound to cross-stick sound. Roland digital snare doesn't need a switch it knows from how you play the rim. The Efnote kits have a separate rim piece for cross-stick and in my opinion is better as you do not have to hit a switch that interrupts the playing. Lower-end e-kits have split rims to give you either sound or they do only have the one sound. If you think the 360° rim on the Strara Prime snare is a game changer you do not know much about electric drums or have only played cheap e-kits as most good e-kits have a playable 360° rim on not only the snare but on all the toms as well.

    • @992ras
      @992ras Місяць тому

      @@Iamadrummer I was talking the Tom drums have 360 rim shots did you even read what I said I point out it’s been common for electric snares for a long time but not on Tom drums like I said it allows you to actually play rim shots on the Tom’s like a real acoustic set. I said nothing about cross sticking that is totally different to what I was point out

Alesis crushed it with this kit! It is exactly as advertised! Just wish Sweetwater used better headphones OR had it plugged into a speaker system or monitor!!!! Lots of reviewers talk up all that is great with the Alesis Strata Prime kit. You need to weed through those that really only show how good the kit is without really telling you the problems it has. The real honest reviewers will actually tell you the cons and flaws with the kit, and there are enough of those that I would not buy this e-kit. For instance crosstalk is an issue. You can adjust it pretty good in the module but it never completely goes away. The cymbals are a bit of an improvement from the Strike Pro Se kit but not as good as the competition. The hi-hat is a new design that does work but reviewers have said it is a little floppy especially in the close position so it makes the hi-hat weird and unrealistic to play. Also there is not enough sound definition between light and hard hits making playing with dynamics difficult. There are other flaws as well. 65Drums does a good job of explaining the good and bad of the Strata Prime kit. One day Alesis will come out with a winner but fir now the competition is still better and even for less money.

    I have an alesis dm10. My only complaint was the cymbals were really terrible. I upgraded the cymbals and the kick drum. The kick drum worked I just wanted the big round kick drum. If I upgraded the snare my kit would be edging up on the strata kit or the pro se.

    For the price I’d still rather go for the TD-27. I’m looking to upgrade from my Surge SE this year as the hi hat takes me out of the experience constantly. I want something with the most realistic hi-hat, but also snare and ride. I want maximum articulation as I’m practicing in my room connected to my computer running Superior Drummer. Sounds and the module are not nearly as important as articulation, playability, and reliability

  • @nj1255
    @nj1255 Місяць тому

    Alesis has been a company that's been up and down throughout the years, but you can't forget that they are one of the most important companies and innovators in digital audio history. I haven't tried this Strata Prime kit yet, but I hope that the hi-hats are better than on their Strike Pro kit since the Strike Pro hi-hats didn't register very good in my experience. The pads on the Strike Pro were really good though. I still don't think that any company can compete with Roland's TD-27/TD-50 modules in the sound realism department (just listen to the cymbals here compared to any video of the TD-27 or TD-50 modules), but I know that a lot of people rather use Superior Drummer, GetGood, Drumgizmo or whatever instead of the kits in the drum modules. The BFD software in the Strata Prime module is not too shabby though. I much prefer SD3 over BFD3, but it's still perfectly useable.

    Alesis' new flagship kit, Strata Prime is getting lots of attention. There are tons of video reviews of this kit, with everyone who has reviewed it saying it is the best e-kit of the year. And when you consider that this kit, when combined with the expansion pack which gives you another tom and two more cymbals for a total of 5 each, is still only half the price ($4449) of Roland's flagship VAD series drums, it is understandable why the undisputed big dog of e-drums may be feeling some heat. Be careful Alesis, you just might be playing with fire there.
    Remember, DW was developing some new e-drum tech that got Roland's attention, so instead of welcoming the new competition, they just bought DW.
    Don't get me wrong, I love what Roland is doing with their VAD full-size kits, but $8000 is water too deep for me to tread.

    Nah, this hype will wear off, the way it always does. It’s a release cycle with a ton of money behind it, and a killer player. BFD sounds alright but not on par with other VSTs. The playing is phenomenally clean of course, and the mix doesn’t require much, considering it’s not a full band. Very well done, but I’ve played it and it’s not special, it’s a corporation that bought another and integrated its components, the same way Roland bought DW then bought Versa Trigger, and integrated it, making “the world’s first wireless edrums” when they had existed for over a decade. This kit is swimming in the wake of the Pearl mimic and even the efnote pro. The efnote hi hat and cymbals smoke this as well.
    Good kit, but naive to say this is game changing. It’s not. It’s worth the money though.

    Sorry Alesis, I've been a live/session drummer for over 30 years and do many sessions using Roland TD50x brain and Roland pads triggering Drummer Superior 3. Alesis pads have hot spots and I haven't measured the latency but it's still pretty bad. Yes Rolands top end kit is double the price but it's more than 2 times better. Yes , I love the fact that Alesis has real drum samples but even then there is no comparison to Drummer Superior. If you want the best (by far) setup(and most expensive unfortunately) Roland TD50X brain and Digital ride and snare and newest gen pads are the way to go if you are professional drummer. Response, no hot spots, lowest latency, and tracking where you actually hit the drum. (positional sensing) Keeps Roland the king by far ... no I don't work for Roland.

    Roland lost the plot years ago, with there over priced jalopy kits , who in their right mind would buy a $20k ekit for practice let alone for gigs, ive been drumming for over 30 years & don't know anyone who owns a Roland top of the range kit they are just to expensive

    • @Iamadrummer
      @Iamadrummer Місяць тому

      Roland used to be the top e-kit manufacturer. Now I think there are equally if not better high-end e-kit brands. Also Roland is no longer a stand alone company as they were acquired by DW. That is why the DWe kit now works with the Roland td50 module. The Alesis Strata Prime e-kit has some very impressive things going for it especially the module. Unfortunately I can not concider any Alesis e-kits high-end as they are all flawed. I do think one day Alesis will come out with an e-kit worth buying. For less than the Alesis Strata Prime e-kit you can get an even better e-kit from a better brand. If you watch enough reviews on the Alesis Strata Prime kit they do seem impressive but most reviewers will also point out the cons and flaws of the kit. The module is really the the best most impressive part of the kit.

    I will tell you, I owned the most expensive Alesis kit and it sucked huge ćøčk!
    The snare sounds like it's way too compressed and doesn't have the dynamics El Estepario has on an acoustic kit.
    Guarantee the heads break in 4 weeks. The Alesis Strike pro was a huge return for me after a year of broken parts! I couldn't do it anymore. I went with a TD-50 and an ATV Digital kit.
    Fûčk Alesis!

    Why pay 3500€ for this when you can get a decent e-kit for less than a 1000$??, when it comes to the actual mix, nobody can tell if you used a 3500$ or a 800$ E-kit.
    Besines its the module that costs like crazy not the actual kit.

    for ANYONE to imply that "roland" is in trouble THAT would suggest Roland is the standard (now coupled with DW) which they are AND why DW concurs is conclusive that NOBODY touches the standard setter CASE IN POINT look at the release of this product (which appears phenomenal) vs the release of roland/dw flagship NOW take a sec to think about what that flagship will be at technology re-release THIS product (which AGAIN seems phenomenal) will have to "chase" it down LOL which is what you ALWAYS have to do with standard setters.......PLZ disagree and your denial will prove EXACTLY why you think "roland" is in trouble lmao......any/all responses GOOD LUCK adding up

    Don't agree. Especially because if you really want a good sounding e kit you'd use a program like getgooddrums or superior drummer 3, not the module. Module sounds are never as good as programs that sample real drums
    Plus roland is the best because of reliability. Alesis reliability has always been bad just like simmons

    • @992ras
      @992ras Місяць тому +1

      Form what I heard the module is a computer with 128 gb of Ram so you can easily add those drum programs strait to the module without a computer the module is the computer now. Name a module that can do that besides this one none. Everyone knows how expensive Roland is and the module doesn’t even come close to this one at least not yet and if Roland makes one everyone knows it’s gone to be twice as much. Roland hasn’t been that great in yrs especially there modules you spend all that money to run a program because you don’t like the sounds of the module.

    Do people really like the spund of this kit? I kinda hope the sing was played on like the default kit without a PC... cause I wasn't impressed. Snare sounds fake and weak, hithat sounds completely electronic. I can close my eyes and instantly tell this is an ekit... hopefully it's just the first demo before it's finalized or something
