A lot of people don’t understand chops. To me it’s a form of mastery on the kit. The ability to take a rudiment and play it at a complex level, quick and clean is top tier. The same way some nba players are defensive specialists or 3point specialists. And same can be said for playing pocket, metal drumming, marching band. Mastering and being clean is top tier.
Oh my god I love Jacob Collier’s music and I believe Djesse Vol 1 is one of the greatest albums ever released in the jazz world. This drumming was so wonderful and really elevated something I already hold in the highest regards.
