  • New to Flight Simulator or the Airbus? Here we have a tutorial looking at the basics of taking off in the Airbus A320 NEO in Microsoft Flight Simulator!

    I am a real world Airbus pilot with thousands of hours flying the real aircraft and thought it would be fun to have a look at the new detailed simulation of the longest baby 'bus by Toliss as well as the new MSFS a320 NEO. Hopefully you find this useful and it brings another perspective to your simulation. Any thoughts or comments are welcome!

    I would be very interested in a short video about taxiing. I can't seem to find reliable information about how a realistic pushback looks like, at how much thrust you taxi and where you can see how fast you are rolling.

    • @Mogammer
      @Mogammer 3 роки тому +2

      For the sim, typically an N1 of 35% will get the plane accelerating for taxi, and I usually try to keep around 20 for the groundspeed.

    • @marshallhogan3440
      @marshallhogan3440 3 роки тому +3

      This is for the 737, i’m sure it will apply for the A320 too.
      I am not sure what you mean by a “ Realistic pushback “. We usually get pushed back from the stand, onto the taxiway facing the direction given by ATC or in the direction to exit the apron.
      When we taxi, maximum N1 on the ground is 40%. Usually set 30-35% to break away.
      Taxi speeds are simple, 10kts on the apron, 10kts in turns, Maximum 30kts on a dry, straight taxiway. ( Usually do 20-25 ).
      On a runway, maximum speed is 50kts. ( When backtracking, ect. )

    For anyone wondering (like I was for a while), the final prompt you're given in the intro is to "Disarm Spoilers". As he briefly showed, the spoilers are the speed brakes located just to the left and below the parking brake lever, and need to be taken off of the "Armed" tick and set to "0" (one notch down). Maybe I'm just a doofus!

    Thank you so much for your continuing help with making the complex system that is the A320neo in MSFS usable! I also have a suggestion/request: I'd be very interested in your assessment of the aircraft T/O performance under hot & high conditions, as I have been really struggling with this. I would suggest to try this out in Quito, Ecuador, as MSFS offers you two airports nearby (the new airport with ~4000m runway at 7800ft, and the old airport with ~3000m runway at ~9000ft) - great for direct comparisons. I guess you'd always take off with flaps 2 or 3, but 4000m won't even suffice to reach rotating speed at TOGA... I'd just like to know if the aircraft's behavior is realistic. I'd also like to know what the thrust rating of the LEAP-1A engines in the sim is, but so far I've found no info on this. I somehow guess they're at one of the lower thrust ratings for the 320neo, which would explain part of the problems I've encountered...
    Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next bit of knowledge you share whatever it is - this is actually the first UA-cam channel I've ever felt is worth subscribing to.

    I decided to do some aborted takeoffs and tests for my own curiosity in this specific sim and noticed some things that might be worth knowing for you guys. I am also using the FlyByWire mod that improves the A320, but I expect all these issues are default to the sim. A bit disappointing, hopefully improved upon to make it more worth calling a simulation..
    - _The V1 speed seems to be entirely cosmetic, it gives a 6 knot split behind VR in all cases I have seen._ On short runways where the Airbus will only lift off right near the end V1 will still be 6 kts below VR and you can not safely abort anywhere near it. On long runways aborting right at V1 may stop you with more than half the runway remaining, but it will still give split from VR.
    - _The flex temp you set in the FMGS has no effect on the numbers it gives, even if you update them._ Only the flap setting seems to modify those numbers. I don't know if that means it always assumes TOGA.. Some of my flex takeoffs have felt a bit sluggish to get off the ground.
    - _Autobrake doesn't work at all for takeoff._ If you cut throttles in an aborted takeoff autobrake literally turns itself off quietly and no braking happens; very safe! If you try to turn it back on in that situation it will stay as you've selected but not actually brake, and no decel will be indicated. Works fine when landing though.

How does the real world take off differ. Barring the feel of the aircraft, based on the setting in the simulator I would imagine a real world take off would be very similar in nature. Thanks

      @@m8nick8m66 Sorry for my english, it's not native for me. I had the same issue, the plane kept going slightly to the right not following the flight plan. The matter was with my gamepad! The sticks had a little microvibrations that made the plane turn slightly to the right and allowing not switching off the AP. Enabled deadzones on min 10% and everything became ok.

    I have a question, can you tell me why the plane is showing 1 FD - instead of 1 FD 2 in my case?

    Great video, very informative as always !
    I've been using A320NX for a while now but I don't know how to put that square on the PFD so you can see your joystick movement. How's it done ?

    Thanks for this, very excellent detailed tutorial - much appreciated. But you (like me) are getting climb rates of about 6000ft per minute at some points using this method. Is there anything we can do to alleviate that? I've never been on an airbus that pitches up and down so wildly as this!

    Hi thanks for all the videos, helped tremendously navigating and understanding autopilot. I keep encountering an issue where all my avionics go blank though after 1-2 hours flight and I have no idea why? Any ideas?

    Thank you for another excellent and informative video! Question... do you ever go to TOGA or FLEX power and then release the brakes for takeoff? I think I have experienced that as a passenger on some occasions. Thanks again for your tutorials!

      Thanks for watching Alvaro! No we don't do that whilst holding the brakes normally on the A320, it may happen on other aircraft types though!

    Thank you so much for these videos! Do you use the green F and S on landing also or is it strictly for takoff? Cause I notice I see it when landing also. Thank you!

    Really Helpful tutorial!... However I am just wondering, how did you end up in taxiway? Usually it start on the runway ready for takeoff. Can you please share how to do that? I was looking for that option.

      You have to select a parking spot at the starting airport instead of a runway in the sim.

    Can you tell us roughly what sensitivity we should use for the flight controls.. Seem very twitchy to me. Love the videos

    There is something I don't quite understand. I do everything you're showing in the video, and it works. I'm pretty much taking off every time without any issues. But then when I'm in autopilot nav, although the plane is following the flight plan as intended, it seems to always ignore the constraint altitude. In your video right after the take-off, the altitude number on your main screen goes from blue to purple (5000)... but mine never goes purple, it stays blue and I have to manually enter new altitudes during the entire flight. So I'm wondering if I'm missing anything. I use the flybywire mod for the plane.

    what is proper technique for taking off in a strong crosswind? i find myself using rudder to stay on runway, once initiating Rotation, the plane tilts and when rudder is released jerks the plane around. How do you keep it somewhat smooth?

    Great video. Thank you. Quick question, how do I stop my Airbus A320, automatically pushing back, taxing to the the runway and taking off. Thank you if you are able to assist.
