  • I recently measured my testosterone level and the result was quite high. As I am not taking any hormone therapy I think this must be lifestyle based. I have a look at what I think are the reasons.

Same here, I race and train hard, 66, never smoked, no drugs, no prescriptions, lean, high protein and fat diet, fasting. About 5 hrs is all I need. No ED. It’s understood that inactivity like siting around is not good. When I was in the hospital on my back for 7 days, unrelated, T test showed I wasn’t even what I thought I was. I’m loosing muscle mass but have not been able to hit the weights. Gained it back quickly surprisingly, just over a few months, last year. Peace from USA.

There are other controllable factors like diet, exercise, etc. I think it’s proven resistance training can elevate T levels and so can eating healthy fats. Cholesterol has been demonized but its know that every cell in your body needs it to be healthy, even the standard lipid test is being challenged by lipid experts saying that its pretty worthless-at predicting heart disease. Usually any issues with the body often have a family history including endocrine issues. Anyway the best to you.

HIT, strength training 3-5 x week, similar supplements to you and Siim, no processed food or alcohol for 48 years. Biological age from blood test is 57, VO2max also 57, BP 107/67, HRmax 184, rest 39, RE 178. A bit of an outlier; competitor calls me a freak of nature. Oh, and I have no visceral fat around my organs.

Richard, at 69 my TT is also consistently high, over 700 ng/dL. But my Free T is a bit low and seems to be correlated with my high SHBG. I've found a number of dietary influences which might be why my SHBG is high and am working on shifting it lower to assess effect on Freet T. I exercise daily, walking (6 miles+) and light weights (3 to 15 lbs). No HITT and no heavy weights. Do not take NMN or NR. Plant based diet with a little fish. No dairy or meat so I do not have high saturated fat - lots of mono and PUFA. BMI 24 to 25. Sleep about 6 h/night but REM and deep sleep average over an 1 h each. I'll go back to my notes and post dietary impacts on SHBG/Free T later.

@@jdholbrook33 I'm not the one to "explain" anything to you. I just gave some of my stats which might be related to my TT level and shows that at my age I can have high TT without meat or intense exercise. Richard claims that Johnson's plant based diet lowered his TT requiring replacement. Maybe, but I am a counterexample and 20 years older. I eat low sat fats (and zero to low simple carbs) based on what the professionals recommend, not bro-science guys.

Hi Peter, thanks for sharing. Great to see that you have a good level. I need to test my SHBG and figure out my Free T so I have proper data on that. You are doing well, and interesting that you are getting that number without heavy resistance training. But that was only my best guess as the reason for my levels. For reference the study which looked at the fat in the diet is here www.nature.com/articles/s41430-023-01358-9. WRT Bryan Johnson, I had heard that his T was low and that seemed to be what his web site was saying, though I think he mostly ascribes this to the CR rather than vegetarian diet.

Kudos on your high testosterone, Richard. Just wanna point out that a man's overall physical and emotional response to testosterone levels can be largely individual. One person can be energetic, maintain energy, sexual function and positivism with relatively low testosterone, whereas another person with the same level may experience deficits in these areas. A person on testosterone therapy should have their doctor monitor various blood markers, such as cholesterol and blood sugar, as they can be affected by testosterone augmentation.

My fat intake consists of animal fat; grass fed butter, fat on red meat, fatty fish, DHA+EPA olive oil. My omega 6:3 ratio recently tested: 1.4:1!
    I tested testosterone when I was 61: 663 ng/dl.
A few years ago I started taking 10 mg elemental boron per day. Recently I tested for free testosterone: 92 pg/ml = 9.2 ng/dl.
(I started to take boron against arthritis and it is very effective. I take it as a home-made supplement; a very diluted borax solution.
Boron is anti-inflammatory, anti mold, regulates calcium, magnesium and phosphorus levels in the body, it also increases free vitamin d3 and *free testosterone*.
I dissolve 9 grams of borax in 500 ml water, 5 ml of this solution equals 10 mg B. It tastes soapy and I take it in a glass of water, a cup of coffee or through my food..
Recently I learnt that this dose may lower riboflavin or vitamin B2, so I lowered my boron intake to 3 mg as an effective maintenance dose.)

Thank you for sharing! Not only good information, but this is very thought-provoking and yes, trying to find a root cause to challenge and also is this desirable. I think testosterone is desirable for the reasons you stated, indirectly fighting Sarcopenia.
I would hazard, I guess your compound movements of dead lift and squats are significant contributors.
By way of background I went on testosterone therapy a few years ago when I was about 48 I did not like it, it worked for sure, but it was too much and I felt it was Not sustainable.
Personally, the only thing I do is peptides such as a ipamorelin sirmorelin type mixes a pretty low doses like 100 µg injection in the evening and this might increase testosterone. The endogenous GH increase is not directly for testosterone, but I’m trying to mimic some of the results from the doctor Fahey TRIMM studies, so I’m also doing 500 mg of Metformin and DHEA I think 100 milligrams. This is primarily to regenerate the thymus for the all important T cell leukocytes to be in proper order; there’s supposed to be testosterone increase with GH increase.

I am amused by all the DIYers in the comments. There are trained professionals who study for years to understand the incredibly complex hormonal system of the body. These endocrinologists should be consulted before anyone starts wasting money in magic powders or injecting themselves with anything. I have to say that for anyone to be at 1000 in their 60s or 70s (albeit free T is more important) is hard to believe. I know people on TRT in their 40s who have gone up to a max of 1000 under medical supervision and they say they feel like superman and I have seen their athleticism absolutely transformed by this level.Despite the conclusion of the presenter it is incredibly unlikely that weight training and diet/sleep are driving his T number. I know plenty of people who live like this in their 60s myself included and their T is not that of a 20 year old. Much more probable it’s genetics.

It's about total testosterone. your SHBG goes up as you age which causes your free testosterone to drop. Your free testosterone should be 2% to 4% of a healthy total testosterone. So yours, being a healthy total, should have about 21 ng/dL. There are guys with a 400 ng/dL that feel better than another person with 800 ng/dL. but the person with a higher free testosterone will feel much better and respond much better to the testosterone. SHBG is affected by age, diet, lifestyle, and the shape you are in. The more areas you lack, the higher your SHBG, and the lower your free testosterone. Bound testosterone is important, but so is the right amount of free testosterone.

In my days as a young man, it took many years to get my career going and I eventually succeeded without committing crimes, although it might have been a shortcut to success, but it would have been wrong and a violation of my conscience. So no, poverty and lack of opportunity doesn't force anyone to commit crimes; it results from wrong choices, abuse of one's freewill.

I recently found out that testosterone in prescription form comes with a black box warning against heart disease. Apparently, testosterone will increase hematocrit two levels high enough to cause the blood to slush and become too thick. This would take place either with Naturally high testosterone or through Supplementation. I also read that the reason men die about seven years before women the same age is because of the negative affect testosterone has on the immune system.

Diet and exercise do not seems to have much bearing on these numbers and I test them 2 to 3 times per year along with other assays. Even statins don't seem to affect any change. Again these are findings and I'm otherwise normal... I can maybe build muscle faster and might hv a temper.

Bryan Johnson takes testosterone, but testosterone raises IGF-1 and mTor, so doesn't that go against the logic of doing a vegan diet and being in CR. Some of his supplement may lower IGF-1 and mTor, but it all seems contradictory.

There's nothing wrong with raising IGF-1 and mTOR, just not in metabolically ill tissue that doesn't respond because the mitochondria or co-factors like NAD and whatever others are missing.
