Sorry for the late upload everyone. For some reason the first version of this video was taking hours to process so I had to re-upload.
BTW this isn't a new concept but a lot of people were asking for a simple build video to show how it works. Hope you enjoy! :D

Build a hover station with a gyro on it so if you land it will push down the whole ship instead of that one corner, also counter that force that pushes down with thrusters (try your best to counter it exactly)

I have an idea for a creation for you. I tried to do this but I had no idea how to make a gyro so now I am asking you. Try to create a flying creation that flies like a TIE Fighter that you can use to do barrel rolls. My idea was to detect the fighter's angle and adjust which thrusters are used to keep it in the air.

      - Can you make coaxial helicopter (ex: Ka-25) where rotor blades will act as gyro?
With *autopilot* (balance roll, hold pitch, heading and altitude) and *landing* (hold everything) mode
      - Sometimes acceleration is used like "fake" gyro in mobiles, can you make accelerometer? with arm and spring as soft as gravity, and when helicopter start to fall/raise it will try to keep steady?

1:20 it's called reaction wheels. Gyros in spacecrafts are used as navigational tools for the avionics interface to be able to tell the orientation in the 3 axis and adjust the yaw, pitch and roll. They're also used in airplanes and helicopters.

  • @projectafterworld2557

I always understood the principle of gyroscopic stability like spinning a weight on a rope. In order to change what way the weight is spinning, at some point in it's spin it'll have to drastically accelerate. The inertia/momentum of the weight fights against that force as it's already under a constant acceleration, the very same that causes the centrifuge effect.
In this instance, the weight is every point of the spinning body that has mass (so all of it) so no matter when or how you try to tilt it, you need to sharply accelerate part of that mass. Therefore, until a sufficient torque/force is applied to provide that acceleration, the gyro will remain in the same plane. Trying to actively force a gyro tilt across it's rotation will result in that same required force being applied back onto the acting body in equal/opposite forces.
    Nerd up. :P

I built a flying selfstabilizing aircraft with this idea, when the game first came to steam, and i used spring dampened thrusters to keep the thing stable etc. worked great, but at some point, they changed something and it didn't work well anymore...
was amazing to fly and easy to land ...

so on your first demonstration with the arm with the spinning object on the end if you were to make one on the other side of it going the opposite direction the arm wouldn't move sideways?

I tried to develop a Control Moment Gyroscope in SM, and it kinda worked, but only if there was no weight whatsoever.
What I really want is a gyroscope that can detect the angle of the craft at any angle (including almost upside-down) and correct. The problem with most gyroscopes (including ones I've made) is that once it passes the sensor, you'll never be able to correct it.

Honestly, whenever i try to make a flyer, Even with a brent batch stabilizer, it still tilts.
    Even slightly.
I'd prefer it just be locked horizontally.
Like, it can still turn and stuff, but it can't tilt ever.

I have tried making a gyroscope to make a hovercraft, and I'm absolutely failing. I'm using vanilla game, no mods, and I'm just horrible. I will need to keep trying until I get it right, but I don't think it's normal for a person to take 3+ days to make one simple thing such as me. XD

    • @kANGaming

If you are struggling try making it bigger first :D Bigger gyros done this way are much easier to balance.

    • @VKURDR
      @VKURDR 5 років тому

@@kANGaming that's a good idea, thank you, I have to try it out soon. Thank you for replying, I didn't expect it, and so quick too! While I'm watching you and kosmos vids I got a notification. XD
(Edit: I gave it a shot, got it working, but now I have come across another pinch. The gyroscope itself, one part of the gyroscope seems to spin faster than the other, making my build spin as well. But it's definitely stable now!)
(Edit 2: apparently my thrusters are the culprit behind this. I need to find a better angle to fix it. XD)
(Edit 3-5: haha the struggle is real, I have been at it for hours/day(s) to make a working flying vehicle with thrusters and gyroscope.)
