Would it not track the potatoes, then?
Something to keep in mind is that faster turn rates are great for short distances, since if the target's only 5m away and moves 5m to the left, the turret will have to rotate 40ish degrees in a short amount of time. When the target's much further away however, the slight inaccuracies caused by fast rotations with cause a much greater loss of precision on a target 100m away, which can be reduced by slowing down the turret. The turret also does not have to move as quickly when the target is far away, since it is unlikely that the target's motion would force the turret to quickly rotate 45 degrees (much more like 3-5).
TL;DR: Slow turrets are better at long distances, fast turrets are better at short distances.

That's wrong in the case of this game, because when It can turn faster it turns more than it needs and is unable to hit its target. Its like when Kan tries to drive a vehicle with way too many thrusters
In theory you could use the distance to the target as a multiplier a/divider against some constant to determine rotation speed.

Try to do a tower defence Multiplayer Monday. Try to build a vehicle that can go through a pre-built course with turrets.
Multiplayer Monday Idea For After The Explosives Update: Make a big clunky bomber. Two Teams: One person will be the pilot/front gunner/bomber and the other will be the tail gunner with a huge turret, On the other team, there will be two fighters. The fighters will try to shoot you down and you will have some bomb targets. If team 2 kills team one, then they win, but if team 1 destroys all of the bomb targets it wins. Also, Team 2 will have 3 tiny spud turrets across the map and team 1 will have on huge one in the middle of the map. This is my idea, like so ScrapMan can see! PLEASE!

You need to make a machine that can circle the map indefinitely and have a few turrets hanging off the bottom, that'd be so neat, and you can then try and escape with destructible cars.

-Race with AI turrets set up and customs planes.
-one person in the spudlinggun and the rest using the MM plane or something trying to take him out (king of the hill almost)

Now you can make true air defence turrets for FMB!And maybe snipers for the sniping towers?

maybe build into those some kind of sound indicator, so you will hear the alarm once you hit it,
2nd idea is to turn on the alarm once AI detects the player when at certain distance

This reminds me of the orbiting planets. And I just had a great idea! Make a game where all the planets zoom off and the players have to go catch the planets. Whoever has the most planets in 10 minutes wins.

peace and love life there is a mod that adds a single spud gun in that is automatic...plus a potato tnt bomb that automaticly shoots out spuds...EVERYWHERE

I tried this mod out and it’s cool but better in multiplayer cuz you can do a battle with a vehicle with a turret on top and go around and get a good angle and get the other player!

ScrapMan, the reason all turrets were so effective was due to a fatal flaw of your Multiplayer Monday plane - the wings.
They had no support whatsoever, and losing just a piece of them resulted in the rest falling off like they were made from... uh...
Actually they were indeed made from cardboard.

Multiplayer Monday idea: Each person builds a destructable plane and a destructable auto-turret only using vanilla and wings-mod blocks and a maximum of two spudguns. At the first round, two people place their turrets at the turret locations while the other two place there planes at another location, and then the first round starts. If both planes get destroyed first, the two people who placed the turrets get a win. If both turrets get destroyed first, the two people who placed the planes get a win. After the round, the people who previously placed turrets place planes and the people who previously placed planes place turrets. Then there is a third round where one of the people who placed a turret switches while the other one doesn't, and one of the people who placed a plane switches while the other one doesn't. After that round, everyone switches again. At the end, the person with the most wins wins.

The buttons getting hit on that last bit is actually a good idea to have an indestructible plane but put buttons on there to make it have 'malfunctions' to make it a challenge.

idea: use this mod to make something that chases you and shoots spuds at you at the same time and you have to run away from it. And maybe make a Multiplayer Monday out of it where you have to build a chaser craft, and a runner craft and the chaser will attack a selected person, or maybe make it so it chases anyone but you if it’s possible and all you have to do is run, and the last one standing wins
you could make an airstrike grenade with a player emitter and some tracking rockets
For a multiplayer Monday can you make a gaint turret and a type of vehicle car/plane and see who destroys the turret faster.

MULTIPLAYER MONDAY FORT BUILDING TEAM CHALLENGE! Both teams build a fort (1 turret per player and 1 plane per player). One player in the team builds the planes and the other one builds the turrets. Goal: destroy the enemy turrets and generator core.

hm if you could chose what target to follow with a block or something i think that a hover train would be awessome.
all i can think about this (as shown ) is a follow hover vihicle that will be following you no matter where you are.

Can you add explosives to the engine area so if it's shot it explodes. And also when it lands hard it explodes
Imagine making ai controlled planes and ai controller turrets and then just having a huge fight XD I guess you'd need a player in each planes though
You can use the included proxity sensor connect that to a nor gate and the nor to the ai to activate the
Turret at a certain distance.

I built one that works really well, it uses the spud tnt from The Modpack to explode on impact, I also made guided torpedoes with the buoyancy mod
Get together with Kan and make a automated base then try to raid it with the other guys and see who takes out the (core maybe?)
PLEASE DO A TOWER DEFENCE WITH THIS. Like use a plane to take out a turret and don’t die.

Revisit your orbiting planets project with this mod. it should be able to track the distance from the ground, and the distance from the other planets very accurately now.
It would be awesome ti make a hover battleship with automatic turrets and detachable auto-tracking missiles
ScrapMan, i think you should to use some mods with electric engine for example the ludocrous mod or something because it has a electric engine with a lot of torque and it is stronger with the same speed
a better spudlinggun would be encasing the electroncs and motor in a base with an access door to them and a lil higher to allow the full movement.....try that version out and i think you may enjoy it more
