- Destiny 2's Lore and Story from the 8th Book of Sorrow reveals a great degree of Savathun's own plans and thoughts. It tells us of her opinions of her sister, Xivu Arath the Hive god of War. It also tells us of her plans for Eris and how they panned out perfectly. It also seems to hint that the Witch Queen has been working to conduct these plans for a long time and that her plans for Eris and Xivu are not yet complete.

Has anyone considered that the Traveller meant for ALL the siblings to have the Light, so could it be that ere the ending of the Witness, the resurrection or more accurately, the RESTORATION of Oryx, to the Light along with Xivu Arath might be a thing?
I got that from the witch queen campaign due to the witness saying as much.
"The light wants to take them but I will whisper that their only salvation is below in the waves in service to the worms"
Or something along those lines, the traveler would've saved them if it wasn't for the witnesses lies

if traveler wanted oryx be a guardian he literally deny our guardian light power during ritual and if oryx was guardian dude would massacre us to gain more power also remember hive feed of light even some still have worm in them but have sided with light upset guardians ones who have worm removed
also would oryx have lost taken power too as it gift from the worm god
Savathun reminds me of both The Doctor and The Master from Doctor Who. Constantly winning even when losing, always has to be the smartest in the room, contingency plans for backup plans a-z that are in turn backup plans to backup plans, major villains even when being the hero.
Savathûn saying of Xivu "she's always been the sentimental one" is _so_ interesting. It helped me realize there's a fascinating dichotomy in each of them:
- Xivu Arath is the hive god of war, but is sentimental to a fault
- Savathûn is the hive god of deceit and subterfuge, but she comes closest of the three of them to something resembling altruism
- Oryx is hive god of curiosity and navigation, but was also the most stubbornly unquestioning proponent of the sword logic
Also, my favourite part of the _aiebāt_ joke is that it has many layers. In another sense, it could literally be translated "that's what she said".
Oryx: Exploration and Constriction.
Savathun: Deceit and Truth.
Civil: War and Life.
This is interesting because by personifying concepts, it’s easier to explore it as a theme.
In the case of Xivu, there is the act of war and the purpose of war. War as an act is arguable inherently evil, the worm dictated she must conduct war. War as a concept however is more morally grey. War can be good. What one soul considers evil, another may consider righteous. Xivu’s true intentions is to wage war for a purpose, not for war’s sake. It lets her abide by her worm. Not the sword.
The same can be said for Savathun. We think of deceit as having negative connotations. Deceit in of itself is considered a negative quality. But what if it’s not inherently evil. Lies are things we tell others to keep them safe. Again, Savathun must abupide by the worm, not the sword.
I have less of an explanation for Oryx. Or rather the inverse. Navigation and inquiry are generally good traits, but what if it’s not inherently good. Inquisition leads to knowledge. Knowledge is power. Power can be dangerous. In his inquiry into the deep, he found fatal logic. Basically, putting the English essay formalities aside, he fucked around and found out.
If you think about it, the aeibat thing is more than a joke. It’s the very answer to the hive gods. They have all purported they follow the sword to more or less degree. This is false. They do not follow the sword, they obey the worm. As long as they satisfy that, they can be as hypocritical as they like. Savathun was the first to realise.
Given Savathun’s interactions with Riven and previous encounters with the Ahamkara, one has to wonder once again how and where in the Hellmouth Eris found that bone…
I assumed she took it into the pit with her. Perhaps she was part of the great hunt.
@@surprizeforyou She was indeed part of the Great Ahamkara Hunt before she lost her ghost and her eyes. She had also served under Mara Sov, despite Eris not being an awoken.

I think rather than actually planning on Eris herself, she planned on the fact that Crotas wanton slaughter would eventually run afoul of someone with the mind to go to the lengths that Eris went to. So rather than having a plan for Eris specifically, it was simply that there was a role that Savathun knew would statistically eventually be filled by someone. And when that someone revealed themselves, she had her preparations ready to receive them.

Mm. Thats pretty much always the case when a character with plans has plans that predict things in the future. Its not that they predict exactly what will happen, its that they predict vaguely what will happen and adapt the plan to the specifics. In this case, Crota will either never ever lose, which is unlikely, or he will eventually lose, which is something she can plan for.

If I'm remembering two specific past videos correctly, I think Savathun started planning this before the Collapse. Byf made a video regarding Savathun's interactions with a human family on Earth before the Collapse, told them where to go to be safe, and told them to chant specific words (unbeknownst to the family, these words were, I believe, the names of Worm Gods). In another video, Savathun was revealed to be the one who hid away the Veil on Neptune and sent the Witness on an intergalactic wild goose hunt.
Seems to me that she's been planning to leave both the Witness and the Hive (or at the very least, her sister Xivu) for untold centuries. I think she may have had a hand in steering Eris's fate from the beginning of Eris Morn's second life as a Guardian.
Honestly, with how Savathun has been lately during Season of the Lost, Witch Queen campaign, and now here, I wouldn't be surprised if she did want to leave the Witness before asking Mara Sov to remove her worm. It's what made her such an interesting character for me personally.
It’s all one and the same. Savathun tried to use some pretty ingenious means to feed her worm indefinitely, but her deceptions were always seen through. The Thrall in a black hole was particularly clever. She wants to be rid of her burden, and remove her work. Her plan against the Witness ultimately always led to this. She knew she was risking everything in the gambit to remove her worm and attempt escape. She nearly pulled it off but Mara was too quick and Savathun knew she would be. She bet everything on the Traveler and considering she did keep it safe from the Witness, she did deserve her resurrection. ✌️
I think the "Since crota first raised his sword" is probably talking closer to the great disaster. If not then it's probably a plan that didn't include Eris morn specifically but someone with great vendetta against the Hive.
My thinking lately has been "where did they find The Veil initially?" A theory I've had is it was initially on the planet or near the homeworld of the Vex or the Psions or both at different times which influenced them to become what they are. Memory of the universe influenced the Vex to act collectively. The Psions having connection and fostering telepathy, evolving and creating a means to tap into it before the Veil was taken not knowing it was somewhat of a physical object that could be collected.
The Heirloom could be the piece that connected The Traveler and The Veil before they separated. Slivers of it could used as seasonal artifact to shield and stabilize Guardians entering the portal on the Traveler.
Taox, I would assume it would be because of taox. If savathun gave xivu torobatl then it begs the question of if savathun interacted with taox and has shown xivu a great deal of mercy given how savathun makes it really clear that she's not that threatening if you can think tactically, I think savathun is trying to save xivu but in a way that allows her to escape and "restart" the krill species, I think it's going in a really different direction because savathun is the proverbial get out of jail free card for Bungie, she can do as she pleases because of her planning and cunning, she can more or less make a hard right turn when we were expecting her to go left. But I think it would be interacting with taox, as she was quite reserved when we exposed her and her sisters having been deceived.
I think that "No bringing him back", him, of course, referring to Oryx is pretty interesting. The reason for that is that it was the whole point of the ghosts of the deep dungeon. Does Savathûn not know this? Or is she lying even in her monologues?
I think it raises the possibility, and likelihood really, that Oryx was such a fundamentalist to Sword Logic that he'd never allow ressurection. Remember, in spite of Hive necromancy and a Hive Ghost working in tandem, Oryx's return was still treated as an open question in whether it would work as opposed to a guarantee. A horrifying possibility, but never a guarantee either.
It could have been something that Immaru sanctioned on his own accord. Savathun may have seen it as folly, but maybe Immaru wanted to see if it was actually possible.
If the future rhymes with the past, then Savathun still bears the ‘lantern’ of her light, and Xivu Urath may still be compelled by love to be vulnerable in its presence.
I would love to see some streams again, I still love watching the Raidathon you ran years back with Meganyy and Broman

It is interesting to consider that both sisters are on their ninth life so to speak. Xivu cant resurrect because she is locked out of her throne world and savathun gave up her key to immortality as collateral. So what if the final deception is that she sees a future where her and her sister actually have a life of their own making but we are just sure that its some power move

When "crota raised his sword" could be an allegory for a final blow or execution, as that's the motion used. So maybe savathun had eris in mind since crota executed her fireteam instead
She did have a Taken Vex Mind under her wing courtesy of her brother. That’s could factor in on how she knew of Eris. As to her end goal: it could be all the examples you theorized with more we’ve yet to understand, or it could be none of that at all.

Probably a relation between the untaken egg and the ahamkara bone Eris has, which helped her to survive and eventually escape from the depths of the moon.

even despite retiring, does eris still count as a god of vengeance in the hive's culture or is their pantheon updated in real time?
My bet is She became interested in Eris because she took Hive eyes and survived the Hellmouth. I Imagine it surprised her and anyone capable of surprising her is worth her attention.
In the end, Savathun said she just wants to survive, and I'll bet she's only gathering pieces to make that so, including making shakey allies with us. The witness can't win if she desires to live on, and there's no place in the witness' vision of the universe for her. Who knows, maybe she's projecting to try and trick all of us into believing she doesn't care for her family.
I am definitely interested in Byf streams! I hope that is a possibility.

My favorite part of savathun's lore is that you think her plans have gone back as far as they could, but then they keep expanding. Her keigaku (keigaku means plan) going back to crota and brya's death is crazy

Have we ever explored why the Hive gods refer to their pre-ascension selves as if they were different people, or at least with the pre-ascension names? It seems an important detail considering the effort the writers go to in order to include the detail. Maybe its related to the way the Witness is both talk about as different and the same as the people it consumed to be created. I feel like there's another person/mind involved somehow. There should be a reason for the disconnect.

Savathun has seen this before. She was there for there for evil Eris. She knew about the vex and had crota cut there. I think she has been in the same loop with Elsie and figured out what was going on. Nothing surprises her. She sees what must be done and does it.
How many times has she been here? I think her along with the vex have seen this endgame path and both charted to be here. If she didn't know the truth why would she go to the traveler in death?
I'm saying it now. Through the light and dark reuniting a new paracausality power is made but the vex take it which will be the first episode.
Fikrul ties in with the whole dark ether thing and we learn that the traveler and veil are just conduits to a higher power.
Heresy is where Savathun and her sisters finally gain independence from their worms which would be heresy especially to Oryx.
It becomes the siblings destiny.

Aiebat is in the imperfect tense, which unlike perfect tense implies the action is over a duration rather than a single event. Example: I was running.
Thus the joke here would be "That's what she has said." It's undercutting the definitive of Aiat and is in fact a joke in a dead language.

I have a question about throne worlds: why don't more hive have them? If Toland and the mindbender could create throne worls of their own then it can't require hive god levels of power. Why don't characters like Nokris, The Leviathen eater, Dul Incaru and Savathûn's right hand have them? What about Warpriest? Some of those characters have been around for millenia and probably have taken a lot of tithes. Eris thinks she might have a throne world without even knowing it, so there isn't a specific ritual for it as far as she knows, so how does it work and why don't other powerful hive have them?
If you stream Bft, will you be opening up your play session on Destiny for viewers to join you in a fireteam? I think that'd be really cool to play with you and have you stream it as well. I served in the army for 10 years so if you're ok with some language (which I do my best to control) i'll definitely join and watch. It'd be cool to see you interacting with your fans as well as discussing lore through playthroughs.

There is foreshadowing here, esp with sentimentality. Savthun is literally holding the light, wile xivu is holding the sword. That savathun thinks she sounds like Oryx is indicative that she can no longer sit between them, that she is the one undergoing the fundamental metamorphosis. She thinks she can't lose to Xivu, and in this moment she will be touched by the sword. If xivu kills savathun she will be far more powerful than either of them.
Savathun's sentimentality I feel tells us more about herself than anyone else
I do think it would be cool & for the best if we could bring back oryx & have him & savathun on our side & also eventually bring xivuarath to our side to. It could be the travelers grand plan
Think people are too forgetful of the sheer amount of species they all wiped out to keep themselves alive. The Levaithan told them not to go to the deep because it wouldn't exactly give them what they wanted

There’s a good chance Crota would have never ended up on the Moon in the first place if Savathun wasn’t the one to give him its location. There’s no mention of Crota at all in the lore from when he was exiled by Oryx into the VexNet to when he first appears in the Sol system post-Collapse.
I find this very likely because, not only did Savathun have Quria, a Taken Vex Mind, at the time, which means she could’ve accessed the network whenever she wanted, but Earth’s moon also happens to be where she killed Nezarec and stole the Veil.
With time travel involved, it’s possible that everything that transpired on the Moon was according to her plans. And I mean everything.
The moon also has a vex portal to the Black Garden. Maybe Crota found his way to the moon via that.
8:11 I think byf is overestimating Savathun in regards to this lore book series. The tarro deck, I fully believe, was not written by someone, but rather conjured by the universe as a whole, brought forth by the veil or something similar. Tarro is about tapping into fate and time, both are things not normally able to be tampered with by living things. So the thought that savathune is playing with us from this deck is a bit more far fetched for me. This feels more like a tapping into memories than an interview if that makes sense

It's been awhile since I've read the lore but didn't eris talk to a knight or some hive and befriend them down in the hell mouth? We know savathun can make other see things that aren't there like Nokris and the thrall maybe that hive she befriended was savathun
Are you referring to the incident Fenchurch found out about with Mara and Eris when a thrall brought him a splinter of darkness? In that situation, she didn't exactly befriend the thrall, just used Hive magic to make it do her bidding:
_At this point, concerned that they might not survive to make a report, ERI-223 imprinted a log of their journey on a fragment of debris and transmitted it to Luna via Hive manifold, along with a compulsion for any lesser Hive to bring the fragment to a Guardian. This is how it came to me._
