The Cadillac Escalade is a full-size luxury SUV engineered and manufactured by General Motors. It was Cadillac's first major entry into the SUV market. The Escalade was introduced for the 1999 model year in response to competition from the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Range Rover and Lexus LX as well as Ford's 1998 release of the Lincoln Navigator. The Escalade project went into production only ten months after it was approved. The Escalade is built in Arlington, Texas. The word "escalade" refers to a siege warfare tactic of scaling defensive walls or ramparts with the aid of ladders or siege towers. More generally, it is a French word which is the noun-equivalent form of the French verb escalader, which means "to climb or scale".
The Escalade is currently sold in North America and select international markets (Europe and Asia) where Cadillac has official sales channels.[1] The Escalade ESV (Escalade Stretch Vehicle) is sold in North America, Russia, and Middle East but is available by special order only in some international markets. The right-hand-drive Escalade and Escalade ESV are available through the third-party conversion specialists without official agreement with Cadillac in Australian, Oceanic, and Japanese markets.
In 2003, a year after their introduction, the GMT800-based Cadillac Escalade and Escalade EXT received an interior facelift, while the exterior design was left mostly unchanged. The audio system was upgraded to offer two different radio options: an AM/FM radio with cassette and single-disc CD players, or an AM/FM radio with a single-disc CD player and a touchscreen GPS navigation system (Radio Data System (RDS) was also included with both radios). Both radio options included a separate six-disc, in-dash CD changer unit mounted in the lower portion of the instrument panel and controlled via the radio (the CD changer still featured numbered buttons for disc selection, as well as 'Load' and 'Eject' buttons). The Driver Information Center (DIC) was moved from a separate unit in the instrument panel to the odometer display screen in the instrument cluster, where the gauges were also revised with the larger odometer display screen. XM Satellite Radio became available, and the OnStar telematics system controls were relocated from the instrument panel to the electrochromic inside rearview mirror (ISRV). A rear seat DVD entertainment system, which included two pairs of wireless headphones, and was produced by Panasonic, was also a new option for the 2003 model year. The instrument panel and steering wheel both featured updated designs (the steering wheel now also featured remote audio system, OnStar, and speed (cruise control) buttons on the front of the wheel). The electrochromic inside rearview mirror (ISRV) now integrated the OnStar system controls in addition to the exterior (outside) temperature display and integrated directional compass. The front and second and third-row seat designs were updated, and the Zebrano interior trim was replaced with Burlwood. The Escalade ESV (extended-length model) debuted for the 2003 model year.

I built this kit late last year as the third in my return to the craft after 30 years when me and my late brother built 100s of kits a children. I painted mine flat white with black interior. I used the 20" rims and tires and it turned out great. The use of the orange sharpie to simulate wood grain is genius. I'll be utilizing that tip along with the use of the silver metallic sharpie and white pencil tips I learned in some of your other videos. Great build, I love the colors. Happy to find and follow your channel with all the new techniques I'm like a kid again enjoying the craft. Thanks!

I hate it when those wing nuts get loose and the alligator clips move on you. 😄
One of my coworkers back in the day had one of these Escalades. He said chicks would fight to jump into his ride. 🤠

Really neat idea for the wood grain simulation! I was on the fence about this kit but will be ordering one now.

Still have two of these(real ones). Awesome do-it-all vehicles. The kit was pretty cool, too, except the firewall required quite a bit of surgery to the bottom.

I've always called these the Escalanche since it's a platform mate of the Avalanche. I found the previous version of this at Ollie's for $9.99.

Memories! Have a diecast 18th scale one on my shelf with those 24" rims that had spinning centres that were all the rage among rappers and other entertainers when these were new in the early 2000s. Has it really been that long?

Revell U.S.A has a kit that is similar to this one;this is the perfect kit for kit bashing with the Revell U.S.A kit,to build a unique model;as both the AMT and Revell U.S.A Cadillac Escalade kits, are in 1/25 scale.

I like the color scheme that you went with. Just enough contrasting colors to make it look really sharp. I like the orange Sharpie for the wood grain idea. I have the Escalade (Tahoe style) sitting on the shelf waiting to go together. I'm thinking that I'm going to order the EXT to go with it. The front suspension looked like it was giving you some issues going together. I'm pleased to see an AMT kit without a ton of warp in it. The last three AMT kits that I've built have been a challenge to put together due to warp.

I stopped and rewatched you build the Ford Model T from 1917. ONE HUNDRED and FIVE YEARS OLDER than this contemporary Cadillac Escalade. "We" the motoring public, have come a long way in just a hundred years. From doing battle against ruts and fields just to drive to town in the "T" in the early 1900's to the push button convenience of the pillow smooth rides of today. This build underscores that leap in technology and the engineering we humans are famous for. So far, no Giraffes have built even a wagon, let alone a Cadillac Escalade.
