New to the channel? I do Let's Play videos -- these are like walkthrough guides of gameplay with continuous English commentary trying to explain my decisions and what strategy I use. If you're looking for hacks or cheats, you're in the wrong place!
I've actually always wanted to play a city builder game that takes you through the ages. Sadly they all start too late. Can't we have something that goes from medieval village all the way to modern metropolis? Would be fun to have to worry about your small roads and ancient walls when you finaly get to the 19th century. Do you build boulevards or do you keep the charming old centre? I mean... tourists bring a lot of coin, but how do you supply local merchants?
Squid Kid And Paris, Rome, Antwerp, Venice...
Spore is somewhat like that, but unfortunately very simple and dubbed down.
That seems aimed at the American audience. Shame because cities that first developed in the middle ages are amongst the most beautiful. Medieval cities wouldn't follow a grid though. And from the looks of it this game doesn't allow that kind of building.
We can tell you are young. There was a whole series of games that did just this but they never got up to modern era as their studio went bust. But in one game, would be quite a feat to see.
Check out Rise of Nations although is not a pure citybuilder game :)
Pls play more I am interested in this game
He has 10 episodes of this recorded.
A lot of youtubers did a video on this game but only Quill's let's play is watchable and fun. That's why we love you Quill!
The Emperor appointed you and you indicate that you have a separatist heart in your decor of the railway station... The nerve!
Armus What would archduke Franz Ferdinand say
The punishment is death.
The future of your family is unknown.
The border will stay open under a replacement inspector.
Glory to Arstotzka.
I was hoping that someone I watched would play this game and you did Quill. Glad that you're playing it and I hope to see more to come and even some unsponsored play if you enjoy it. Thanks for the appealing content!
Centerquill sounds like a fire type Pokemon.
I wouldn't mind a non-sponsored version of this after quill finishes this lets play.
it wont be an difrent
I feel like quill is less natural than usually in this one.
Galileo Grey you sure? he seems the same to me.
I've seen this around. glad they're paying you, theres no one i'd rather watch
Jordan Bedford they are not paying him he just got the game for free
Adog Supreme It says right in the description and at the start of the video that it's paid sponsored content. So yeah they're paying him, which seems like a win win to me.
What the fuck
whyyy,, just why... This is why we CAN'T have nice things :/
... What's the issue, here? He said right off the bat that it's sponsored content, and so far as I can tell, he isn't trying to hide negative facets of the game. Don't get why you two are throwing fits.
You do know that being progressive (the ideology) is exactly the opposite of being free (classical liberal and libertarian) right?
I'm actually rather surprised they went with liberal vs conservative rather than libertarian vs authoritarian (which is the more common, and in my opinion more accurate, one).
Liberal vs conservative makes a lot more sense in 1840, may change later on
In Europe (where this game is from and kind of plays), liberal vs conservative is the more common distinction. Both political labels have a bit different meaning than in the US.
I am a Finn and In my old (almost 15 years) civics text book, the compass uses Authoritarian- Libertarian/Liberal-Conservative in Top-Down/Left-Right. With the economic and social left/right distinctions conflated into the lib/conservative axis.
So yea, seeing that version used was a bit strange for me as well.
But yeah, what parties there seem to be currently present in the game: Authoritarian Left (Ie. Communists), A very oddly placed (compass-wise) Libertarian Right and a random nationalistic (right wing) minority party. tossed in the mix. Wonder what options the game gives the player to deal with the nationalists. Perhaps there is a possibility for things to get really ugly and some player cruelty potential.
I'm very surprised at how much this game broadcasts the political opinions of the devs. They clearly view liberal as good and conservative as bad, creating a very one sided a boring feeling. It should definitely have been libertarian vs authoritarian, but then that probably wouldn't have fit with their existing prejudices.
actually this game uses the European terms for liberal and conservative, much like the Democracy series. Where Liberal = Libertarian and Conservative = authoritarian. And how can you tell this game has a bias, a many American conservatives back in the day were against labor unions, so establishing labor unions is a left leaning thing and right wing parties are against it, its pretty self explanatory.
THE FUTURE PROGRESS CLOUD HAD "MEN'S PILL" AS AN INVENTION I LOVE THIS GAME ALREADY.
you are master of strategies, we have watched your channel for years! tons of nice games.
You had no choice, you HAD to choose the Sant' Ellias family, the crest has a hand holding a QUILL!!! Fate I tell you...
Beside being a very good video i have to mention that you are actually one of the few who put a proper and visible marking on a video to show that it is sponsored by a company. Far to many UA-camrs hide it in just a super short cmment in a series or fail to mention it at all. Well done!
Hey! discovered you a few months back with all your pre-release Civ 6 LPs. you were a big help to me in hitting the ground running with that. I actually learned about this game through another youtuber, but was glad to see you reviewing it too. You get nice and deep into the nitty gritty and do an excellent job of explaining the mechanics. If the series continues in this vein, I'll probably be buying this game. :-) Oh--and thanks for the nice big sponsored content disclaimer. If only all youtubers did that...
Kaisershafen xD his pronunciation was pure gold. It's Kaisers - hafen, bascially "Emperors harbor"
Was on the fence about this one, but watching the first two episodes, this looks like a game I'd like to get. Thanks Quill!
*crest has a hand with a quill on its head* "I kind of like these guys!" - Yeah, can't imagine why... :)
I was thinking of getting this game, and enjoy getting to see this game and how it functions and plays.
I like this game! We need MOAR!!!!
YESSS! I've been seeing ads for this game since last September. Glad to see you finally play it
Well, this seems waaaay more interesting than I thought it would be. I'm looking forward to some episodes!
Thank you for the disclaimer at the start, it's good to know. Plus I am glad they paid you to cover the game, as I had been looking into it anyway =)
Really glad to see you playing this, I almost bought it during the steam sale but held back until I saw more on it.
Quill: *makes pun about a cold country while living in Canada*
I am very glad to see that you have started a let's play on this game. I have become spoiled by the quality you provide.
Hey quill, there seems to be a major (pun intended) problem at 29:35.
Suddenly, when I started to get really excited about the game, it just goes black. Please try to fix this as soon as you have the time.
Cheers!
japphan ohh, I get it. Kappa
Ka-ching! Fair of you to show you're being sponsored, I think everyone will agree you've earned it and I'm happy devs are aware of what type of games you play.
Ooh, this looks quite entertaining, i'm excited for more.
Damn, this game looks awesome... Damn you Quill18, don't you know I'm broke after christmas?!
I hope you learned it sucks.
Finland mentioned! I'm not going to the market square, it's -20c outside!
Herra Ulla perkele. (The only finnish I know)
Ivar - Merijn moi and hei is mine :)
If you combine those two (moi/hei and perkele) it's REALLY powerful greeting - you're set for your Finnish trip=D
Herra Ulla I doubt that perkele would be appriciated...
Ivar - Merijn isn't that an insult like devil?:)
Omg ive never been one to watch or play these types of games, but after watching some frost punk, then sliding down to some railway empire and then you popping up in my recommended tab, this is so captivating it just grabs me and pulls me in! Cant wait to see whats in store for this, glad i found you man! :)
As soon as I saw the political compass I said "Man, I bet someone in the comments has a bug up their ass about their political position not being painted as perfect."
Yeup!
I thought Physiocrats were "Laissez-faire, government non-interference in the economy group". However in this game, they are left-leaning and big on government supplying services. Additionally physiocracy emphasizes agrarian life, as farming is the center of a nation's economy...seems opposite to what's actually being portrayed by the game.
they also believed in big land value and development. Also the era they are in agriculture was a big govermental thing but was liberial in making privatisation of these fields.
I guess it's because they had a labour theory of value? Even if it was simply an agricultural labour theory of value.
This game looks really exciting I'd love to see more Quill!
This looks amazing, I'm looking forward to more videos on this! :D
looks really interesting, i've been following this for awhile. Glad your doing a let's play hope you do a full run with it
Nice. Been seeing more stuff about this game. Looks interesting. Finns are on a roll.
MOOOAR! You can't satisfy my appetite for this game by a video a day! :D
it would be cool if in the democracy games there was a congress with several parties where you had to pass laws
This game looks fantastic!
Quill18, I'm hooked, I want more, please fuel my needs !
when I first saw this game, my immediate thought was that I want to see quill try this.
Glad to see you got your hands on this, looking forward to the game.
Nice to see you do a video on this game, Quill. I have been looking for game play to make a purchase decision, but the ppl who had videos up before you were not as seasoned management/strategy gamers as you
Great to see this ended up on your channel! I was wondering about it on Twitter earlier this week.
Doesn't the preview end at this era, or did they lift the embargo
This is a full, pre-release build.
Nice, I was watching other play and they would end at this era. Would like to see more of the other era's.
All press-release are full game, but till the release of game, it's forbidden to show what is after the end of first era. As far as I know, there's only one German youtuber who is allowed to show the whole game as he is a friend of a developer.
@Ki. Vi. Seeing as it's a paid series, I'm assuming Quill's good on his embargo rules.
Good to know Quill still reads all the comments :D
I DEMAND ALL THE OTHER PARTS NOW
Got to say, really enjoyed watching this and the fact you can't misunderstand this is sponsored content. Nothing against it if it's stated obviously. Love it. :)
I've been looking forward to this game for quite a while, really excited to see you play it- even if it is sponsored!
Looks very interesting, please do a full let's play.
oh man ..was waiting for u to play this game....thanx
Thank you for clearly marking this as Sponsored. Great video too!
This was highly entertaining. Cant wait for the next one :)
this game looks super cool
This game looks awesome, I look forward to the future episodes of this!!!
Looks like a great game overall. Thing is though it does seem to have that nerdy aspect to it that I like but most gamers don't. Its the kind of game that I wait 6 months before buying it and usually the price has gone down to 20$ or less.
been looking for someone to eventually find and play this game. i am glad that you are the first person i found. i am glad it is you especially since i am of your play style and videos compared to others in strategy anf management typ games
This game looks very interesting, looking forwards to seeing more of it!
we need a full lp!
this looks exelent. huge potential.
Kaiser's-Hafen literally Emperor's Harbor/Port
Also at 14:22 an Iain Banks quote. I approve.
Thanks for being up-front about sponsorship
so glad you are covering this 😀
This looks like a fun wee game. I'd like to see more of it.
Quill you are so good at making me want to buy a game!!
This looks quite interesting. I am looking forward to seeing your next one.
This game looks really fun. When will the next video be out?
More of this Quill!! U are the perfect utuber for this game imo! Love the political aspect of the game, REALLY interesting!
The game actually seems quite interesting, im looking forward to see more :)
1:28 ... he said nordic! Hell yeah Quill finally someone in the English speaking world that knows the terminology.
The smaller party is actually very powerful at the start, with their members they could establish an unofficial coalition with the party against and get everything you want voted out, i'd keep them on your side
Ah come on, you should've chosen the Irish Kilgannons
I love how, its not just city building but political. Just looks awesome
Glad to see this on the channel, I've had this on my wishlist for a long time. Not sure if it's the game for me, however. I'm not keen on the way you influence votes, for example, so far. The good will thing seems a little simplistic. Still, I will wait and watch more episodes.
Oh my, this game looks pretty fun!
As a fan of James Michener, this game looks like fun and I hope to pick it up sometime in the near future.
cool game... need to take a look at it. a refreshing setting in city building themes
The game looks really fun. :)
Looking forward to the let's play. :)
this game is awesome ! quill do more of this!!!!!!!!!!!
Great game, can't wait to see more!
this looks awesome
This + Civilization VI + Cites Skylines = Perfect strategy game
Only halfway through the episode but very interesting concept!
I like that Men's pill is in the same leagues as Augmented Reality, I think we need augmentation if we are to remember taking the pill xD
Amazing disclaimer screen!
Hey Quill, just make sure you know this but @ 24:34 when you demanded the second time it did actually cost you a pre-determined cost of 2 goodwill. Make sure you read the tool tips before clicking anything :) Other than that great video and I'm liking the game so far.
the K could also stand for crowns, the old currency of Austria and still used in the Scandinavian region and some Balkan states. Usually it's shortens by using a k(as in de for Swedish crown).
aGamingMonkey Wrong.
*Buy a giant tower and put your name in gold in it to overcompensate your tiny hands!*
Lusitani Mendes pull a Donald trump
what are you talking about? quill's hand are YUUUUGE believe me there is no problem there
quill when you see a v in a germanish word (German, Dutch, ...) you are 95% right when you pronounce it like the f in the word 'fit' and not as soft as you are used to it in English.
the helmet thing for the family you chose actually had a quill on top of it lol
This looks really freaking cool!!
Looks like city skylines, can't wait to play it!!
It's said Kaisers-Hafen, the Emperors Harbor... just saying... The game looks interesting, I hope for a proper LP :)
This looks promising. I want more canadian multi era city ruling!
Holy fucking shit, i had the exact same idea for a game ...
Too bad i cant program for shit.
Oh, I like this imperial ambience
Nice! Really hoped you would pick this up.
We want more, we want more!! :D
Just in case you ever wanted it in future reference, it's pronounced Fawn Filtzens :)
Gotta love Germanic Phoenetics...
The people in the city hall look like they're throwing up gang signs!
