I have been adding a scoop of collagen in my coffee for two years. The price went up and I couldn't afford it. Stopped for six months. My face just aged overnight! It was a real shock! I moved, so a little more money available. Started Collagen again, and after four months, my face is back to normal. I stil have dry skin, crepy skin, etc. but the fullness of it is better, much better, and my face is filled out again. Im 76.
Hi Dr Ellis, I am 56yrs old and a recent breast cancer patient. Since I have been barred from taking HRTs I started on collagen supplementation (despite being a pescatarian for decades) about 5 yrs ago to improve skin elasticity and creepiness that is age related. I have noticed my skin, although thinner is still in fairly good condition and my hair and nails grow as normal and are very healthy (despite monthly salon coloring). Worth noting is that due to my limited exercise abilities now, I still maintain full range of motion in my joins without any aches or pains. Collagen i chose is Vital Proteins and this month I added Vida Glow collagen to try a marine version. All in all I would recommend a collagen regiment. I believe it’s a positive!
@iamtherealjulia , I feel like I’m you but little older (64), starting with the breast cancer and being a pescatarian for like 40 years, could you share your experience with collagen and what’s the brand?
I’m 60 and started on collagen powder (bovine) about 3 months ago. I am actually noticing a difference in my skin, esp in my feet where I have v bad dry peeling skin this has really improved. Also I do heavy resistance training and v rarely am I sore (DOMS) since starting on the collagen. I am happy with the benefits so far. I use @willpowders products I am uk based x
I’ve had a huge improvement in my nails. They’ve been less prone to breakage and grow longer. I’m taking Vital Proteins. Also I’ve been taking it for over a year. One more thing- I’m just turned 80 this year.
Same for me! I am coming off chemo treatment and my nails got so brittle. My friend recommended collagen, actually for joint pain, it's not helping with the joints but my nails are much better!
I’ve been taking Vital Proteins for several years. I decided to try it because I had nails that were easily broken. After taking Collagen Protein they are now “as tough as nails”. It's nice to find out that it is also good for the skin and that it is not a harmful supplement. My husband takes it too. We put it in our coffee in the morning.
I started taking Vital Proteins collagen two years ago and saw major improvements in my nails, which had always been brittle and peeled easily. I ran out and didn’t replace it. Six months later, my nails were splitting again. I started up the collagen again, and my nails are strong and nice. I’m sold!
I have been using Sports Research Collagen Peptides. I think it’s important to use hydrolyzed collagen so you can absorb it better. I think it has helped my skin but it definitely helped my joints and bone density. There is a government study showing oral collagen supplements can increase bone density. My numbers improved after taking this .
Yes they do,more than hair ,skin and nails. Many more benefits than cosmetic. It works for me , joints, soft tissues, lungs. So good. I take vital protein bovine collagen
I started taking collagen daily about a year ago. I have been going to the same hair stylist for 15+ years. All of the sudden she commented that my hair was so much thicker and growing so quickly! She asked what I had changed in diet etc. At first I said nothing- then it dawned on me- COLLAGEN! She is shocked every time I go to see her now. My hair and nails are so healthy, thicker and grow so fast! I’ve always had great skin so I don’t notice much there. I’ve also noticed less joint discomfort which is why I started, I have RA. I’ll continue to use it!
@@candice-up I have been using Alaya. The ingredients are “Multi Collagen Complex Hydrolyzed Bovine Collagen Peptides, Hydrolyzed Avian Collagen Peptides, Hydrolyzed Fish Collagen Peptides, Hydrolyzed Chicken Egg Shell Membrane Collagen”
Thank you, Dr. Ellis. My husband and I are 70 and are interested in trying these collagen supplements, but concerned about both the efficacy and our ability to tolerate. Your report gives us the confidence to at least try one of the Vital Proteins products!
I’m surprised not to hear you mention Verisol. I heard several derms say that Verisol type of collagen is what to look for in the label if it’s for skin. Would love an updated video after you experiment more with these supplements
Fantastic video and presentation👏👏 I do appreciate not only depth of your research, but also very clear and logical explanations to the public what is sometimes not an easy medical matter 👍👍
Am 55, on BIOHRT for the last 3 years, and take grass fed bovine collagen and marine collagen daily along with 1g Vitamin C for the last 6 months. My skin, hair, nails, and joints are significantly improved. I use Live Conscious' and California Gold brands.
I have been using the Vital Proteins you recommended in your video for almost a year and a half now, which has been life-changing for me. There has been a significant improvement in my nails and skin - they are much healthier now, and my skin is smoother and more hydrated than ever before. I have also noticed an improvement in the health of my hair since I started using it. Everyone should be taking this.😍 I btw i use marine and the blue one as well collagen peptides.
I previously had read that the data wasn't there to support collagen benefits, but read the new studies you referred to a few months ago and changed my mind and started taking it. I'm 46 and lift weights five days a week and was having knee and hip pain and the pain has been greatly reduced to almost non-existent since starting collagen supplements, I take Vital Proteins. I've also noticed my hair growing faster. My skin looks great, but I also started using a red light therapy mask recently, so it's hard to say if that is from collagen supplementation. All anecdotal, but enough for me to keep taking it. It's worth noting that collagen supplements aren't a complete protein for those who track their protein and try to eat high protein, so I don't count it as part of my daily protein, I just view it as a joints and skin supplement.
I started taking turmeric, in addition to my Vital Proteins, for my aches & pains due to arthritis & it’s been a game changer for me. I literally have zero pain since adding turmeric 6 months ago. Just thought I’d share! 😊
Hi Dr Ellis, I'm 78 and have been taking Vital Protein for 2 years. When I first started, I thought it's probably too late for me. I have very few wrinkles. I also use sunscreen daily. Joint pain is nonexistent. I didn't have joint pain prior to taking collagen, so it's hard to say if it's the collagen or luck. I see no difference in my hair or nails. My nails have always been good, but my hair is thinner with age. I will definitely keep taking it especially for joints and skin.
I’ve been using collagen supplement for 3-4 years now. I still have brittle nails and dry hair but my skin looks better. This was the the biggest discovery for me in the video (that hair and nails do not contain collagen), thanks for clarifying it, Dr. Ellis ❤️
If you want thicker/nicer hair…eat one Chobani Greek Yogurt a day for about 3 months. You will freak. I found out by accident when my hairdresser told me the new hair growth I had was sooo much thicker and asked me what I had been doing. That was the only change….that yogurt. I ate it only because I liked it. I had no idea it helps hair.
@@mylenedaugan3680 I use 1scoop, and I don't drink coffee everyday. I heat up, a half cup of water in a coffee cup first. Then I mix in the protein powder, and add whatever liquid I want for flavor.
I had Covid during the Autumn of 2022 resulting in developing autoimmune alopecia aerata. I lost my entire crown by June of 2023. Throughout this traumatic journey of desperation I added Vital proteins collagen the one that also includes Hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C. My hair regrowth began and my dermatologist did not feel the need to begin steroid injections. She did recommend I change my multi vitamin to a pre natal without biotin stating there’s no scientific data to support biotin and it negatively interferes with bloodwork results. My crown is completely filled in😊. PS I turn 58 this year. I plan to continue both of these supplements indefinitely.
One thing I wanted to say anecdotally about collagen, I’ve been getting laser treatments and the laser specialist was telling me that when she has clients who are taking collagen, it takes more treatments to get rid of the hair. Of course that’s not as exciting to hear as a published paper, but it definitely made me intrigued in what collagen might do for the hair on my head!
Oh really? So is it just during the laser treatments you shouldn’t take it or can it be other times too? I’ve just stopped my intensive treatments of laser (I have hormonal problems of hair growth) and are now doing it once every half year. Can that impact the results of laser if you take collagen during the rest of the year? ☺️ thank you for your answer
I’ve been taking a multi collagen for about five years now. I started taking it to help with knee pain, but love hearing that it may have skin benefits too! I definitely feel it has helped with my joint health (in combo with PT!) I really love the brand Alaya, I used to use their powder but switched to their capsules. It has five types of collagen and also MSM, glucosamine and chondroitin (all good for your joints!)
At 58, I’ve been taking Sparkle in a cup of green tea daily due to the Verisol data and hyaluronic acid for the past year, along with spot treatment and weekly Friday night tretinion cream bedtime full face application for 25 + years or so . My nails have always been like paper but are mildly improved and my hair has gone from thin to fighting back disco queen volume of younger years. I see age progression from fat loss in lips and cheeks but do get compliments on my skin. I think that logically the condition of your gut health plays a role in the efficacy of any supplement. Love your content.
I've been taking oral collagen for about 4 years . My hair and nail growth have declined due to aging. I don't think collagen has helped my hair and nails at all. However, it has made a positive difference in my skin and joints.
I like those types of videos very much. Never enough of data and medical knowledge on any topic. Would like to have 9 lives to watch them all. Waiting for more and thank you. Greetings. 💛
Hi Dr. Ellis I’m 74 male and an avid swimmer. I also walk almost every day, even in winter. Going on my second year of Vital proteins, I can say there are noticeable changes. After six months I noticed hair growing back on my legs and stronger on my head. After a year plus my shoulders are no longer making crackling sounds when I use my resistance bands. Also, my nails are like steel plates and I cut them weekly. I use a coffee measure (2 tbsp) of the peptides and mix it with flavored water (no sugar) and use a milk frothier (hand-held) to mix it. Great video, thanks so much……Kevin
I’m turning 55 in late March and have been taking Vital Proteins for the last 2 years. I’ve found a difference in my skin since taking it and absolutely love how it just blends so well in my morning coffee.
This was great! And you're right! For some reason, I forgot to order more Vital Proteins and began to wonder if it was needed. I've been off of it for about 3 months, but still see the benefits in my 56 yr old skin. Your timing is impeccable as I am ordering more to keep the "good stuff" going as long as I can. I want it back in my regimen right away! 💪👍
66yo, been taking collegen And hylauronic acid for quite a while. Went to get a shingles vaccine the guy said “wow, your skin is really thick” .. I asked “is that bad” he said, “not at all,it’s like a teenagers” … I’m a guy, so he wasn’t hitting on me … maybe this stuff does work … I take so many supplements … makes it difficult to nail it down, but only colligen and HMW hylauronic acid for skin health.
Only half way through the video and already wanted to let you know I appreciate this video and how quick you come to your points without overflowing us with information. Super straight to the point, thank you! ❤
I have been taking a collagen supplement for a year now and have enjoyed it. I add it to my coffee every morning. I use Vital Proteins or the Walgreen version since it is less exoensive. I found the inci list similar to each other. I started taking it for skin, hair and nails but i feel like it is also helping with my joints also.
Impressive. You actually did some homework on collagen, unlike some other UA-camrs. Great job! Just to add some info, there are a dozen systematic reviews on collagen. Every single one concludes that it works for skin.
Been taking collagen for over 10 years, everyone says I look 15 years younger than I am, no wrinkles, no grey hair. The difference I notice with my hair is that I have 99% less shedding than times I’ve stopped.
I’ve been taking Vital Proteins collagen peptides for about a decade (was taking gelatin before switching). I personally never noticed a change in my hair, nails or skin whatsoever. However, I noticed a massive decrease of pain in my joints which is the only reason I started taking it to begin with. This past year I had an increase of arthritic pain, so I tried going off the collagen peptides to see if it would have an impact. I made it maybe a week before my gut slowed way down and I decided it wasn’t worth it to discontinue taking.
Hello and looking forward to the journey into 2024 !! Wanted to share that I have been taking the Vital Proteins ( blue container) for probably 4 years ! Add to my coffee every morning. Also being a healthy eater and active in my fitness, and taking care of my skin, I think all the above is a wonderful combination ! I’m going to be 72 in May and been on my fitness, and clean eating journey for about 30 years !!! Lol … just wish I knew what I know now back when I was in my 20’s !!!! Oh and I buy my Vital Proteins at Costco !!!! They are on sale now 😘
Amy Myers has a great collagen too!! It’s called Spectrum 5 Collagen! It has Chicken Bone Broth, Hydrolyzed Bovine Collagen, Fish Collagen & Eggshell. I love it in coffee. It doesn’t stink like some of the others.
I have been using Vital Proteins for over two years. It has made a big difference in my hip joints, in particular. Previously I had stopped walking due to pain. I now walk regularly and work out with weights with no pain. My complexion has also improved, which I really appreciate at age 69. I also have used RetinA for over 35 years. No difference noted in my hair or nails. 😉
The Vital Proteins Marine Collagen is easy on my digestion and gives me the benefits you described. Also, I could tell a difference when I paused taking it for four weeks just to test it because it's not $cheap.
Great video. This is my exact experience with collagen. It has done wonders for my skin but no affect what so ever on my hair or nails. I also experienced stomach issues when I first started taking collagen so I lowered my dose initially and then built it up to the recommended dosage. When I first started using it, my skin became brighter and firmer within 2 and a half weeks. I felt like a new person! I’ve been using it for nearly a year now and wouldn’t go back. My skin is 100% everyday. Thanks Dr. Sam.
I have used Perfect Supplements collagen powder in my morning coffee for 4 years now and swear by it. The quality is perfection and I noticed within a couple of weeks that my sun spots faded quite a bit on my face. I am almost 54 years old and post menopausal. It doesn't help my now brittle nails but that's ok because the benefit of my skin looking better and my hair growing faster, I have no plans to ever stop. Plus, you get a great discount if you buy 3 or more so that keeps the cost at an excellent price. Highly recommend and I tell people about it all the time.
I have been taking Sparkle for about 6 months now. I like that it is truly flavorless and blends into my coffee so easily. I have noticed less hair fallout and my nails seem a little stronger. But I have also increased my dietary protein intake a little during this time so who knows? But I plan to continue taking it. I'm 72 years old.
I am not sure how it works but after taking collagen supplement in a coffee for a month my hair started looking way better and is noticable thicker. The skin seems to have a better elasticity, while for nails I did not notice anything. Regarding the hair, my protein has already been on a high level before collagen (200g of protein daily) so I was not lacking protein for sure, it is some other mechanism.
59 years old and take Sparkle and Biosil, the ch-OSA supplement. I think both have improved my nails (the ridges are smoother), my hair (not thinning as it was and a smoother texture). It's hard to say for my skin since I hit it with a bunch of other topicals and an LED mask.
I use Vital Proteins (unflavored bovine) and have for three or years. I mix it with water and drink it daily. I use it primarily for joint health. If I get any benefits for my skin, etc then I consider that bonus points. When I go on vacation, I skip drinking and can really tell a difference in my joints.
I also take Vital Protein. I stopped when I was on a vacation to Scotland for two weeks. Wondered why my joints hurt me. Started right away when I returned home and within days they felt better. I then ordered travel packs from Amazon. Won’t ever leave home with out it! Good luck.
Thanks! When I checked Vital Proteins regular collagen peptides in the blue container, it did not have verisol. Now that I know about their Professional Bioactive Collagen Complex in the white container with Verisol, Fortibone and Fortigel, I have a choice between it and Whole Body Collagen. 😃
I am 42 and I started taking hydrolyzed collagen, every morning with my coffee by Sport Research for the past 9 years at least. Granted I feel like I have been blessed with good skin genetically but I have hypothyroid issues and I loose hair but thankfully my hair grows and my nails as well, my skin is not dry. I do go out of my way with vitamins and making my own juices as well as making sure I eat my veggies and avoid processed foods as much as I can ( by any means I am not perfect). I am fan of oral collagen.
Avoiding processed foods is actually top priority for health, weight, beauty. Learning what processed food is, how that's defined, should be on everyones todo list.
I’ve been using Sparkle for the past year. I can’t say that my hair has improved, but I have seen a difference in the speed of my nail growth. I use red light therapy, tretinoin and Skinceuticals CF and always wear sunscreen. My skin quality has definitely improved, but I don’t know which product made the biggest impact.
My hair and skin have never looked better, even in high school. I’ve used bovine collagen for about a year, but recently started marine collagen. If my skin could physically GLOW I believe it would have started after starting marine collagen. I’ve also had several random people ask me what I’m doing different to my hair to make it so thick and shiny looking (my hair has always been dull, thin and lifeless). I haven’t seen much of a difference in my short, brittle nails, but I’m still sold! Marine collagen is the way to go!
I’ve been taking collagen for a month and haven’t noticed any changes BUT anyone looking for faster and THICKER hair growth eat Chobani Greek Yogurt! I ate that for a month while on antibiotics and just liked the taste so I continued and would have one at night for dessert. After 3 months I started feeling like my hair was feeling heavy. When I saw my hairdresser she was like, “What is going on? Your new hair growth is so much thicker! What have you been doing?” That’s when it dawned on me it was the yogurt consumption 😂 No clue why.
I am 68 years old and have been supplementing with collagen for about 6-7 years. I noticed a HUGE difference in my joint pain after about six months - I can walk and hike long distances with no pain in my hips. I used to have to take a painkiller in order to sleep after a long walk. I also often get compliments on my skin. My nails, not so much. My hair seems to be healthier but I also started using Olaplex, so it could be that. I will take collagen forever, and recently switched from bovine to marine, so we’ll see if that works better on my nails.
I've been taking sparkle every morning for 6 months. I haven't noticed a difference but I have healthy skin to begin with. I take spironolactone as well as a prescription retinol and it's done wonders for my skin. I eat pretty clean most days and don't drink alcohol. I exercise regularly, drink lots of water and take a probiotic. My guess is you can take all the collagen in the world but if your diet is bad and you're dehydrated perhaps it won't help you much? I live in the midwest and the bitter cold dries out my face even with lotion. I'm interested in seeing it the collagen makes a difference this winter.
At 77 I have been using Vital Proteins for almost one year and I noticed that my skin, which used to bruise a lot, seems to be much more resistant to bruising🤗. Something I appreciate a lot because, IMO, a skin showing many bruises is a sign of old skin😩
I have been using Vital Proteins for about 2 1/2 years. First I noticed the growht of my finger nails increased, my hair is growing faster also. Not sure that joint health is better...
Thank you for this very informative video. I am 66 yrs. old and have been using a collagen peptide powder from a women's company in San Diego, Ca, "Collagen For Her". I place it in my coffee and it is orderless and tasteless. My hair dresser has commented on how fast my hair has been growing and my brittle nails seem to be a tad stronger. I have nothing but good things to say about this company
Hi serious hormonal acne sufferer here. I have tried many many oral and topical medications. Which have not worked very well. I stopped all medication and have been on collagen for over 3 coming to 4months and only now I can see the improvement on my skin. So I highly recommend to keep at it, I did change and have used 3 different ones, and make sure it has vitamin c in it also.
I've been using (and loving) the MicroIngredients Multi Collagen Peptides Powder - Hydrolyzed Protein Peptides (Type I, II, III, V, X) with Hyaluronic Acid, Biotin, & Vitamin C
I’ve been using Vital Proteins for 2 years now. I go to the salon every 4 weeks and my hair has always grown at a steady rate. A few months ago, my stylist mentioned that my hair appears to be growing faster during the 4 weeks. I’ve also noticed my nail (fingers and toes) are growing out faster which can be good and bad. Broken nails grow out quicker but I also have to file them more often to keep a shorter length. I have not changed anything else in my daily life and I’m in my mid 40’s. Can’t really comment on my face/wrinkles due to using the NIRA and L’Oréal Retinol for the last 6 months, and now using Tretinoin instead of the OTC retinol. I don’t know if the collagen has helped my forehead lines almost disappear but my stylist also asked what I’ve been doing to my face because my skin looks so much better. Could just be the NIRA and retinoids but maybe the collagen is aiding alongside.
Hi Dr. Ellis, I appreciate this video. I'm a long-time user of oral collagen powders - I'm guessing for about 8-10 years now. Only a morning dose of Vital Proteins in my coffee, a mixture of the blue jar/unflavored with the chocolate. (Chocolate does not dissolve as well, but it is So tasty in coffee.) As far as benefits, I do notice a thicker, or more dense, skin. I've also noticed that I have more hair now than before taking collagen, with lots of the 'baby hairs' around my temples. And I have positively noticed more fluid & pain-free joints. I had stopped supplementation for a short while and really noticed more aches & pains. I just turned 65 a couple of weeks ago, and I feel I'm doing very well - happy, healthy, and active. Granted, my beautiful Mom turns 96 in 10 days, so I do have the benefit of great genes ...Thanks, Mom! Just my collagen journey - I love my benefits & will continue to enjoy it in my morning coffee.
I have been taking vitals protein collagan supplement for a month after my hair was falling out from menopause. This supplement stopped my hair loss. I started regrowing new hair and am still discovering new hair growth. I am hoping to have a full head of new hair within 4 more months. I have new regrowth now but only a few inches, not enough for pony tail. My nails got way stronger within 3 weeks. It healed my nails from doing shellac quickly. I am gonna continue with this one thru early stages of menopause.
Thank you for such a well-presented video! I am 35 yo this year and have been taking NeoCell collagen religiously since I was 21 yo. I have often been told I look younger than I am (late 20s). I clicked on this video as I was curious to know if there was any scientific evidence showing the effectiveness of oral collagen, and it seems there is! I agree with you that those who want to try should go ahead and try if they can afford it 😊
This was extremely helpful. You answered every question I've had about collagen supplementation. I appreciate that you explained everything so well. Thank you for your work and time into this!
Thank you, Dr. Ellis for this video! I have been taking collagen supplements in tablet form and I feel that it has really helped my skin (as well as joints). However, the full dose is 6 tablets a day and I was wondering if there’s any reason to worry in terms of kidney/liver health in taking that much? Would like to know your insights if you have the time to reply. Thank you!
I’ve been using Organika Collegen. Definitely notice that my nails are a lot stronger. And I’m not protein deficient. I’d love info on what might help hair strength and growth.
Super helpful video. I've been taking vital proteins for a couple years and beyond the improvement in my skin, hair, and nails, I notice it gives me a big energy boost when I drink with my morning coffee.
Hey there. I’m 31 and was a cheerleader/gymnast in my childhood and teen years causing lasting joint issues. I’ve been using collagen for that purpose for years and have found an improvement, particularly in my ankle which is arthritic. I can’t speak for how it has worked for my skin because I’m also an avid retin-a user.
Chicken collagen for joints and fish collagen for skin. I rotate them every day. 10g of each every other day. I certainly can feel its effect on my joints in particular.
I have been using the sports research brand for years and it works great. My nails grow quickly and strong and my skin glows. I also had a severe cut on my hand that needed stitches and the doctor was amazed at how quickly and well it healed.
Hi I take vital collagen and I have for last 5 years it’s a morning ritual! I don’t drink coffee I drink collagen and I believe it’s help my skin and hair heal ! Im almost 50 and I look 30 I also take seed probiotics and I drink colostrum daily
I've been taking oral collagen for over 4 years now, both bovine and marine, daily and can really attest to just how great it is! I took it throughout both my pregnancies , both of which were cesareans, and it really helped with surgery recovery. I always get a ton of compliments on my hair and skin. I use organic grass fed bovine collagen and amadean marine collagen and recommend it to everyone!!
I have used VP for at least a year. After a while, I noticed that my hair stopped falling out. I'm in my mid-60's now and have had thinning hair for a while. VP is a winner for preventing hair loss. Last time I ran out, I bought Orgain since it was on sale at Costco. It doesn't seem to do as good. I've noticed a few hairs that have fallen out since starting with that brand. I didn't notice any changes to my skin with either brand.
I'm 42. Lost so much of my hair due to stress, bad water (was living someplace where everyone's hair falls), but mostly - early menopause. I started taking Vital Protients about a month ago, and now I have tiny hairs all over my head. Of course, they are thinner than the usual and barely an inch long. I have been making a few other changes, such as more conscious eating, regular exercise, vitamin d supplements, a temporary break from work. All of which I've tried before to different degress but perhaps not all at once. The main new addition are the collagen supplements, half of the prescribed daily dose with my morning cup of tea. I'll see how it goes for another couple of months, but previously broken and now recovering me really likes seeing the flimsy hairs on my head. 😊
I've been using collagen from Organika, for 2 years already and like it very much. It doesn't affect my nails or hair too much but there is an improvement in skin hydration and especially improvement in joints (no pain in them since I started using collagen). Not a cheap supplement in general but in Canada Costco sells it for quite a reasonable price.
It’s Jan 3rd, 2024 and if you buy two of these from Target you get a substantial discount. I bought 2 of the 40oz size, and got $25..58 off. Note - it wouldn’t let me put another one of the 40oz size in the cart when it gave me the offer, so I just went back in and added another one of the 40oz size in myself. When you go to checkout it will give you the discount. THEY ARE OFFERING SECOND ONE HALF OFF on the SMALLER SIZES. Thanks Dr Ellis for explaining how collagen work for us. It was very helpful! Happy New Year to everyone!
I took collagen powder for 2 years (Arena Strength: 5 types of chicken/bovine collagen) and didn't notice improvement, so stopped. My nails seemed to grow really fast, but they were still brittle. I didn't notice any difference in my skin or hair. But I haven't tried Verisol collagen yet....was thinking of trying Sparkle's Verisol product.
I am 60 and my husband is 62, we have been using Sports Research collagen powder in our coffee each morning. Using for over 5 years and it’s incredible.
I’ve tried several brands of collagen powder, most recently Vital Protein. Unfortunately, they all smell repulsive to me and bother my stomach, so I can’t stand to take them. I wonder whether they are high in histamine, because I am histamine sensitive (bone broth affects me the same way, and it reportedly is high histamine). I can take IC-II capsules and L-proline, which help a bit with arthritis. Always looking for more supplements that might help arthritis though - skin health would be a great benefit too.
Im 76.
I doubt your face aged overnight because benefits and losses don't happen quickly. The placebo effect also happens in reverse.
@@Resist4 indeed
I love my collagen peptide. My hair and nails grows faster, skin is smoother . My focus is for my joints
Which one please can I use ? The powder or the supplement? Thank you 🙏

@iamtherealjulia , I feel like I’m you but little older (64), starting with the breast cancer and being a pescatarian for like 40 years, could you share your experience with collagen and what’s the brand?
Thank you. I’m 75 and just started taking this. Was wondering if it’s works, you all answered me, I’ll stick with it 😜
I’m 65, not 75…..don’t need to add those 10 yrs yet 😝
I’m 60 and started on collagen powder (bovine) about 3 months ago. I am actually noticing a difference in my skin, esp in my feet where I have v bad dry peeling skin this has really improved. I unfortunately broke my arm this holiday season . As a mature women I swear by the collagens supplements . Helped tremendously heal .
I’ve had a huge improvement in my nails. They’ve been less prone to breakage and grow longer. I’m taking Vital Proteins. Also I’ve been taking it for over a year. One more thing- I’m just turned 80 this year.
Do you use Marine or Bovine collagen?
@@candice-up Bovine
How are the facial lines with it. Im 68 and my face is getting kind of crepey.
My skin looks good.-Very few wrinkles. I don’t know if that’s the collagen or just good genes.
How long did it take for you to see a difference?
Hi, are you using the powder or pill? I am looking for a collagen peptide for bone density. Thank you!
So can silica too
I’ve been taking collagen for over a year. The very first thing I’ve noticed is that my hair stopped falling out. I’m 83.
Yes they do,more than hair ,skin and nails. Many more benefits than cosmetic. It works for me , joints, soft tissues, lungs. So good. I take vital protein bovine collagen
It has protein in it which supports collagen that lack certain vitamins & minerals it needs to be effective!!

Do you use Marine or Bovine collagen?
@@candice-up I have been using Alaya. The ingredients are “Multi Collagen Complex
Hydrolyzed Bovine Collagen Peptides, Hydrolyzed Avian Collagen Peptides, Hydrolyzed Fish Collagen Peptides, Hydrolyzed Chicken Egg Shell Membrane Collagen”
Ok! Thank you so much! :)
This is extremely informative and makes the scientific information easier to understand.
Thanks Dr. Ellis for debunking the common myths and giving us the best quality of evidence on this subject!
Thank you. I was wondering if it counted towards protein? What brand turmeric? I have arthritis in SI joint and hip. Thank you kindly.
Ellis ❤️
Do you use Marine or Bovine collagène?
If you want thicker/nicer hair…eat one Chobani Greek Yogurt a day for about 3 months. You will freak. I found out by accident when my hairdresser told me the new hair growth I had was sooo much thicker and asked me what I had been doing. That was the only change….that yogurt. I ate it only because I liked it. I had no idea it helps hair.
@@jennyhong6746 I've eaten Chobani Greek Yogurt for years and never once did it do anything for my hair.
I started using vital proteins in May almost on a daily basis, and I am aging backwards! It's absolutely AMAZING how my skin looks, and feels. 5:49 💜
how much do you use every day? I fell like it is hard to take a lot in your coffee
Wow really aging backwards? I must be taking the wrong brand!
Let's see the pics lol
@@mylenedaugan3680 I use 1scoop, and I don't drink coffee everyday. I heat up, a half cup of water in a coffee cup first. Then I mix in the protein powder, and add whatever liquid I want for flavor.
I'm curious about that too. Also, are you taking the bovine or the marine one?
Instead of regular green tea, try Matcha Green Tea. It's way better for you.
I've been taking oral collagen for about 4 years . My hair and nail growth have declined due to aging. I don't think collagen has helped my hair and nails at all. However, it has made a positive difference in my skin and joints.
What brand do you take?.
I like those types of videos very much. Never enough of data and medical knowledge on any topic. Would like to have 9 lives to watch them all. Waiting for more and thank you. Greetings. 💛
Hi Dr. Ellis
I’m 74 male and an avid swimmer.
I go down the gym and have collagen protein powder everyday and even though I’m lifting weights I never get any joint pain - plus my skin glows!
Yes i use the vital collagen i have seen improvement in my hair and skin as well
I’m turning 55 in late March and have been taking Vital Proteins for the last 2 years. I’ve found a difference in my skin since taking it and absolutely love how it just blends so well in my morning coffee.
how often did you take it, and how fast did you see changes?
Which one are you taking? Bovine or Marine ?
I take the Bovine one and I saw results probably within 2 months or so. I take it every morning in my coffee.

Vital Protein bovine and marine powders are both on sale on Costco right now!
Very helpful video. I love how you write out the notes. I just started the Vital Protein Marine collagen 2 weeks ago. Hoping it will help my joints.

What kind do you take?
Are there any conclusions about joints?
@@WKBredhold Yes, it does appear to benefit joint function. The best review is probably Christina Larder's.
Been taking collagen for over 10 years, everyone says I look 15 years younger than I am, no wrinkles, no grey hair. The difference I notice with my hair is that I have 99% less shedding than times I’ve stopped.
how often do you take it, and how fast did you see changes?
I’ve been taking Vital Proteins collagen peptides for about a decade (was taking gelatin before switching). I personally never noticed a change in my hair, nails or skin whatsoever. However, I noticed a massive decrease of pain in my joints which is the only reason I started taking it to begin with. This past year I had an increase of arthritic pain, so I tried going off the collagen peptides to see if it would have an impact. I made it maybe a week before my gut slowed way down and I decided it wasn’t worth it to discontinue taking.
THAT is because VITAL PROTEINS from Costco used to contain HYALURANIC ACID & VIT C but they REMOVED it about a YEAR ago & it makes a HUGE difference!
Hello and looking forward to the journey into 2024 !!
Wanted to share that I have been taking the Vital Proteins ( blue container) for probably 4 years !

Thanks Dr. Sam.
What do you mean skin is 100% every day
I have used Perfect Supplements collagen powder in my morning coffee for 4 years now and swear by it.
What about Marine collagen? Is it effective too❓❓❓
I have been taking Sparkle for about 6 months now.
I also take Sparkle, biosil, and I use a LED mask 😄
I use Vital Proteins (unflavored bovine) and have for three or years. I mix it with water and drink it daily. I use it primarily for joint health. If I get any benefits for my skin, etc then I consider that bonus points. When I go on vacation, I skip drinking and can really tell a difference in my joints.
I also take Vital Protein. I stopped when I was on a vacation to Scotland for two weeks. Wondered why my joints hurt me. Started right away when I returned home and within days they felt better. I then ordered travel packs from Amazon. Won’t ever leave home with out it! Good luck.
@cyndierussell9209 Exactly right. My same experience.
Vital definitely helps my hair and nails grow!

I love Verisol in my collagen product. Sparkle Plus is my go-to! Vital Proteins also has Verisol in their professional product.
Sparkle Boost Plus is my go-to collagen supplement. My skin, especially around my eyes, has improved significantly.
Thanks! When I checked Vital Proteins regular collagen peptides in the blue container, it did not have verisol. Now that I know about their Professional Bioactive Collagen Complex in the white container with Verisol, Fortibone and Fortigel, I have a choice between it and Whole Body Collagen. 😃
You are my go to on YT for anything skin/hair related. Thankyou for the great content ❤
@@MarkyGoldstein you are 💯 correct
How long did you take marine collagen for it too show results?
Also does marine collagen help with new hair growth?
I’ve been taking collagen for a month and haven’t noticed any changes BUT anyone looking for faster and THICKER hair growth eat Chobani Greek Yogurt! I ate that for a month while on antibiotics and just liked the taste so I continued and would have one at night for dessert. After 3 months I started feeling like my hair was feeling heavy. When I saw my hairdresser she was like, “What is going on? Your new hair growth is so much thicker! What have you been doing?” That’s when it dawned on me it was the yogurt consumption 😂 No clue why.

Very educational video! I would like to see a video on what supplements you take daily and why.
lovely idea. And would love another video on how the supplements stack changed during pregnancy and why

@@journeytoself8067 too soon to see a difference.
Found information helpful, especially the piece on bovine or fish. I’ll have to check the ingredients in the one I’m taking.
At 77 I have been using Vital Proteins for almost one year and I noticed that my skin, which used to bruise a lot, seems to be much more resistant to bruising🤗. Something I appreciate a lot because, IMO, a skin showing many bruises is a sign of old skin😩
This is an intriguing possible benefit…I’m only 24 but being clumsy and bruising easily, I always have bruises on my legs!
What difference did you notice?
Marine or Bovine ??
I have been taking vitals protein collagan supplement for a month after my hair was falling out from menopause. This supplement stopped my hair loss. I started regrowing new hair and am still discovering new hair growth. I am hoping to have a full head of new hair within 4 more months. I have new regrowth now but only a few inches, not enough for pony tail. My nails got way stronger within 3 weeks. It healed my nails from doing shellac quickly. I am gonna continue with this one thru early stages of menopause.

You might look into UC-II & eggshell membrane. Both have evidence for joint health.
Chicken collagen for joints and fish collagen for skin. I rotate them every day. 10g of each every other day. I certainly can feel its effect on my joints in particular.
Thanks so much for this information 😊
I have been using the sports research brand for years and it works great. My nails grow quickly and strong and my skin glows. I also had a severe cut on my hand that needed stitches and the doctor was amazed at how quickly and well it healed.

Can you review top collagens?? I use ancient nutrition in my coffee every day. Love the vanilla flavor. ❤❤❤
Off subject -what’s your thoughts on caster oil? Tks
I’ve been taking Perfect Supplements for 2+ years. Haven’t seen any difference in hair and nails, but the pain in my joints has disappeared.
Super helpful, thanks for sharing
Doctor, at what age would you recommend to start taking collagen? And is it the same for men and women?
Very helpful video❤ I just started using powder collagen and the brand I choose is “Dose & Co” Beauty Collagen.
