I’m 64 years old and my face looks younger than my years. I do of course use good skin care. I don’t use a multitude of serums but I do use vitamin C in the am and retinol in the pm. I have been using both on my hands as well. I recently noticed that I my hands are looking a little older so I now use Gold Bond retinol cream on my arms and hands in the pm. That is something that another dermatologist on You tube recommended. I also have hand exzema and have been using a 22% Urea cream on my hands after every hand wash and wear gloves doing dishes or any house cleaning. I don’t ever intend to do any in office procedures on my face or hands. I will take care of my skin and age with grace.
I have crepey hands, I have used my face cream on my hands. It does not bother me. I don't have brown spots or discoloration. I don't expect to look 30 for the rest my life. As I age, I like myself so much more
I was getting my brown spots frozen once a year for 10 years. It is very painful. Then I discovered Neutrogina sun block 100%. That was 15 years ago and I never got brown spots again. When I am a passinger in the car, I always put my hands under a hat on my lap for long rides. This is a game changer.
I have used my Retin A on the back of my hands for about a year now, and it's been a game changer. Also, sunscreen ALWAYS on the back of your hands and use driving gloves!
Thanks to Dr Ellis, I have been paying attention to my hands for the last 4 years. Being in my early 50s I have just started seeing some faint dark spots appearing. So now I am on it! Anything going on my face, night and day goes on my hands. Sunscreen during the day and have just bought some gloves for driving. For golf I think I will adopt another suggestion in the comments about wearing 2 gloves not just one - great idea when you're out in the sun for 4-5 hrs in Australia 🦘
Supergoop has a hand sunscreen SPF 50 and Unsun has a SPF 15. Eucerin has a SPF 30, Gold Bond has a SPF 20 and Sun Bum has a SPF 15. There are also retinol hand creams from necessaire, soft services theraplush, and chantecaille.
Just started using estradiol on the backs of my hands and have been bringing down my skincare to my hands for years now. Hopefully it’ll be a great preventive measure!
From personal experience, if you are prone to melasma, be careful with the use of vaginal estrogen cream anywhere else on your skin! I tried using mine on my neck and chest for only a few days before I noticed a new spot of melasma (with no new or recent sun exposure). I've also been using the estradiol gel since I'm allergic to many adhesives, and after 2 months of use, I have 3 new brown spots where I apply the gel every night. This is, of course, just my experience but if you know that you're prone to melasma, do a spot test with your estrogen cream somewhere you won't mind getting brown sports first before applying it to your hands or your face! Otherwise, the estradiol gel and cream have been absolutely fantastic medications for their intended purpose and I'm so glad that we can all talk about peri/menopause more openly now than ever before. If you're in your early 40's please do yourself a favor and start learning about the symptoms now so you can be prepared. I wasn't and suffered from severe brain fog for 2 years before seeking treatment... don't be me!
Great video! I'm 59 and I've been using SPF on my face and hands every day since I was a teenager. I'm also now using adapalene, twice a week, again on my face and hands. I have sensitive skin and don't tolerate it more often. It seems to have some success :)
I am 50 years old and have been obsessed with hand creams since I was a teen. I apply hand cream daily, at least 4 times a day and I also exfoliate my hands weekly. While I do see a loss of volume these days, I'm pretty happy with the way they look, no visible age spots so far. Also Dr. Sam, I can't take my eyes off your lip colour, so pretty! May I know the name and the brand? Love your videos btw.
I started wearing 2 gloves while golfing (instead of the typical one) when I was in my 20s to help protect by hands from premature aging. :) That being said I'm really bad about applying sunscreen to my hands and it's something I really need to get better at doing.
Your video is spot on bcos I am about to get Radiiesse hands filler tomorrow. I am 48 but my hands look skinny, with all blood vessels and ligaments pop out since in my late 30s. Used all hands creams out there and retinol cream but no improvement. I decide to get the filler bcos i became afford the price and got discount. Thank you so much for this video.
All of my sun damage on my hands, brown spots, and also on the top of my feet occurred before my 20th birthday as I lived in the Caribbean and I was an athlete. I have been applying my skincare to my hands, tretinoin, Vitamin C and sunscreen and the spots are less noticeable and the skin looks plump. I wear gloves when gardening and driving. I bring all my skincare down to my decolletage as well.
I rub a hyperpigmentation serum twice daily into any age spots and it seems to keep them at bay. But paying for in-office treatments for my hands would be a big luxury I could not afford. I'll focus on my face for any in-office treatments.
I have always included hands in my beauty routine…especially sunscreen. I also like to cover them when I plan to be outside a lot. That has helped…but as I age further, the loss of collagen is more noticeable…but I am 61… I am ok with that
Skin needle your hands after you've done your face and neck. Make sure your car windows are tinted with a UV protectant film. If you have a sunroof, keep shade closed during the day. Use vitamin A hand cream at night and yes, 50+ sunscreen during the day. Keep a tube in your purse for reapplication as needed. Try to keep walks before 8:30am and from 4pm onwards....dogs will appreciate a cooler concrete too if you're dog walking. Take a collagen supplement, and if your Dr approves it, get onto HRT. That's a whole different topic, but HRT is doing wonders for me! I am aging gracefully but SLOWLY! Healthy nutrition and age appropriate exercise cannot be overlooked either. Alcohol and smoking are also very damaging to the skin. Keep educating yourself. There is so much info out there!
I wear full length upf gloves when I drive, I also buy the short ones when I travel and I know I’m renting a car. I don’t care what others think of me. I also use glycolic acid and retinol on my body and use abibi sunscreen stick as well.
As someone who previously had this issue which I could not fix for over 5yrs... I would recommend stop using current lipsticks and other products and only use Tatcha Kissu lip mask both night and day for a month. I had eczema and sensitive skin and this fixed it after using countless other options. Less is more until they settle down. ❤
Elizabeth Arden 8 hr lip protectant! I discovered this by accident recently when I got one as a gift. My lips were constantly peeling, every day I used high quality hydrating lipsticks from Estée Lauder, Lancôme, YSL and even Fenty as well as balms, with Cera Ve ointment applied first. That helped but the day I used the EA lip protectant I couldn’t believe it. Now I use it morning and night. No more peeling and flaking. Ever. Their lipsticks are really hydrating and beautiful too, among my favorites..
I'm in my early 40s, just starting to think my hands look a bit older than the rest of me. It's more my fingers/knuckles than the backs of my hands, though! I've started applying my face skincare to my hands.
I wish there were more handcreams with spf, I wash my hands frequently so I just want a handcream I can put on through the day without thinking about it
Can any of the injectables be used in the fingers? The loss of volume makes it hard to wear rings (which I love) because of the size of my knuckles versus width at the base of the fingers.
My GP told me I needed to be checked for osteoporosis, because of the way my fingers looked and they looked like you've explained in your comment. He was spot on, I have osteopenia, so I can do something about it before it becomes full-blown osteoporosis.
Thank you for this video! I'm trying to talk my husband into letting me buy upf protection gloves. He said it's a luxury. I put tretinoin on the backs of my hands.
I have been buying from a nail products company online for a decade- you can find for about 15.00- chk Amazon but make sure reputable- not to overstep here, but perhaps you need to discuss budgeting with your husband where you have the autonomy to buy things for yourself without needing “permission “ - having to ask someone to “ let” me do something that minor- hard pass, personally….
Hi I’m over 60 and my hands are horrible my face looks pretty good but my hands I have Reynards and I think that contributes to a lot of the Thinning of the skin maybe I don’t know but I wish I lived near you so I can have you fix them where do you practice
Honestly it depends on where you live. I grew up in the Caribbean and with constantly wearing sandals the top of my feet got quite a bit of sun damage. Now living in NYC it is rare that I am out in sandals but I do try to put on sunscreen on the tops of my feet a rather common place for sunburn and damage.
I had very prominent veins on my thin skinned hands. I found a Dr who did hand sclerotherapy and I did 3 different treatments. Really happy with the results. Working on the texture now using retin a 3X week and of course spf and occasional peels.
I have sun spots on the back of my hands from living in a warm country as a child and now trying to correct or minimize that. Yes the gloves help and I have seen a lot of benefit.

The face cream you use on your hands, is it working for you
😊 I also want to age gracefully and confidently like you.

Lemon applied 2 dark or liver,Sun spots will make them disappear.😂
I'm 36 and all of skincare products that have left on my fingers after applying go to the back of my hands. And sunscreen, of course.
I have been wearing sun gloves for years. highly recommend

Oh! That’s a great information thank you for sharing! 🤗

Ooooo…this is a good topic! Haven’t watched yet, but already liked the video! 👌🏼

Thank you for this. Unrelated, but what is the lipstick you’re wearing please? It is gorgeous!
I love your blush; looks so natural and lit within. What kind do you use?
Dr. Ellis, your sweater and lip color today is definitely "your" color!!
Love using your Prequel Skin Utility Ointment on my hands!

Is there anything to do for deep knuckle wrinkles?
Yep my hands look awful, great ideas, Happy Holidays 🎄🎁
That color looks amazing on you 🌷
What about hydroquinone cream for hand and arms?
Thank you for the reminder! Btw that lipstick color looks very nice on you 🥰
Excellent information. so appreciated :)

My mother's advice has always been to treat my hands with the same care as my face 🤗 I'm 46 and still enjoy baby-soft hands 😊
I have always included hands in my beauty routine…especially sunscreen. I also like to cover them when I plan to be outside a lot. That has helped…but as I age further, the loss of collagen is more noticeable…but I am 61… I am ok with that
I’ve done laser twice for my spots and it works! Now to combat the crepey skin 😮…
Love this video. Thanks for clarifying the “liver spot” subject.

Excellent!! Thank you.
I use all my skincare products as well as my devices on the back of my hands.
Since red light treatment gloves are available for the hands, do they provide any effective results?
Hi there @dr. Sam :)
I live in Madrid and I would like to try your brand. Do you think of expanding delivery area to Europe? Thank you !
Dr. Ellis, could you please recommend something for peeling lips? No matter what I put on my lips, has not helped at all!!! Please Help!!! Thank you!

REALLY need the Barrier Therapy cream to come back in stock. That's what I use on my hands; it works the best.
I apply and reapply sunscreen religiously to my hands. Hoping it’ll pay off when I’m older 😂
I do all my skincare on my hands too, including sunscreen
I'm in my early 40s, just starting to think my hands look a bit older than the rest of me. It's more my fingers/knuckles than the backs of my hands, though! I've started applying my face skincare to my hands.

I use Eucerin daily hydration cream. It’s SPF 30. 😊 I use it in the Fall/Winter time.

Do you need his permission to buy the gloves?
that makes me sad.

Beige and brown gloves would be nice
I was told scuptra is better than radiesse?
Hi I’m over 60 and my hands are horrible my face looks pretty good but my hands I have Reynards and I think that contributes to a lot of the Thinning of the skin maybe I don’t know but I wish I lived near you so I can have you fix them where do you practice
Aren't car windshields and windows UV protected?
Does the same apply to feet?
Honestly it depends on where you live. I grew up in the Caribbean and with constantly wearing sandals the top of my feet got quite a bit of sun damage. Now living in NYC it is rare that I am out in sandals but I do try to put on sunscreen on the tops of my feet a rather common place for sunburn and damage.
Can anything be done about veins like they do in legs?
I had very prominent veins on my thin skinned hands. I found a Dr who did hand sclerotherapy and I did 3 different treatments. Really happy with the results. Working on the texture now using retin a 3X week and of course spf and occasional peels.
I read about someone who had their veins removed so theirs hands looked nicer. The thought of this creeps me out 🤷
I seen a Tip where just use 1 egg+ minuka honey 1 x per week.
I can’t really afford to use my face products on my hands
I would also love a cruelty free version of a good hand cream because kiehl's do test on animals 😢 and that makes me really sad!
The prequel is cruelty free.
Dr Ellis, your gloves are showing a large part of fingers 😢 I love and use some of your great products, but wanted to love the gloves 😅 🧤
My rule is everything that I put on the face. I put on the back of my hands.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Yes wear SPF cream - but I mean really???? Wearing UPF protective gloves??? I think this is over the top.
Given how much sun our hands get, I think gloves make sense, just like a hat does. I live at altitude and we get so much strong UV all year.
lol it’s really not
I thought about getting gloves for driving instead of putting cream. It makes more sense to me.
my hands have all kinds of sun spots and I am not that old. depends on where you live too.
I have sun spots on the back of my hands from living in a warm country as a child and now trying to correct or minimize that. Yes the gloves help and I have seen a lot of benefit.
