On the topic of quality, can we applaud this man's sound design? The recording has not once peaked on my equalizer, is crisp, and not echoey. Props to you homie!
In regards to your comment about why did they go the extra mile for this anime in particular, well there's two reasons. For one the manga and a lot of the Fujimoto's work is amazing. Not just the stories, but the dialogue, the pacing, the paneling, the characters and their designs. The art takes a bit of getting used to yes, but I find almost all great manga's I enjoy has quirky and weird artstyles that need getting used to. Like I Am A hero or Dorohedoro. And all of Fujimoto's work has a point, everything deliberate. No fluff or filter whether it be the plot, characters or even the action. Secondly because of my previous point, a lot of other mangakas/artists/etc highly respect Tatsuki Fujimoto. It wouldn't be a stretch to call him the belle of the manga world. And it's because of this that many would jump at the opportunity to work on something made by him. It's the main reason why Mappa took that leap and helmed the entire anime production by themselves. Without any board to answer to and without their support. And I'm pretty sure a lot of the freelance animators who worked on this show were paid next to nothing willingly either simply because they love the series and author so much or that they had confidence the anime would be a hit and their work would be displayed prominently. So yeah not a coincidence as to why Mappa went the extra mile for this. If you really wanna be confused as to why a studio went hard for no reason you should look at Bocchi the Rock.
My brother doesn’t like anime but he saw this and was immediately captivated. I honestly felt the same way first watching this as when I first watched AoT.
They didn't have to go this hard, but they made a decadent MASTERPIECE! Art that can be unpacked endlessly like a richly crafted theatre script. Good video essay! If you're loosing interest in anime, Oh Ho Ho, *do I have some recs!* All these pass my quality check. They're not basic: - Weathering With You - Spice and Wolf - Blue Period - Deca-Dence - Ghost Hound - Death Parade - Bungou Stray Dogs - Children of the Whales - Cyberpunk: Edgerunners - The Eccentric Family - Nobunaga Concerto - The Case Study of Vanitas -The Eccentric Family - Into the Forest of Fireflies Light - Durarara!! - In This Corner of the World - Saga of Tanya the Evil (Kinda bad but entertaining) - Given - Black Lagoon - Belladonna of Sadness (NSFW)
As I watch this I can see the Chainsaw Man poster hanging over the lizard tank in our living room.
My man Slap going back to his roots
