  • In this episode, The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band discusses the magic of country blues picking, his hero Robert “Wolfman” Belfour, and being your own bass player. Rev. plays a beautiful 1958 Gibson 335 (notice the unique placement of the jack).

I've seen them several times, always a blast. But I listen to this at least once a day and it makes me smile every time.

This guy’s done his homework. The slide vibratos of Robert Johnson, but also those chops from John Lee Hooker, Lightnin’ Hopkins and those SRV licks..damn this guy smokes up the fretboard.

Fabulous. Guitar face could use a little Windex! Pretty meticulous mountain man beard! Overalls. Nothing left out. And defensible music.

Robert Belfour. I don’t think he toured much and isn’t as well known as as some of the other Hill Country musicians but had a very unique sound. Fortunately he recorded some great albums on Fat Possum records

I already like ya, done subscribed because I like you and what you do for kids. How do you know when to stop laying down the baseline so it doesn’t sound so much like a repetitive machine. I’ve heard the great Chet Atkins and CGP, Tommy Emmanuel change dynamics with arpeggios and strums, single note riffs, vibratos and slide variations, harmonics to add to interest and intrigue. The when to cut the Bass-line repetition and how to keep the back beat going will just have to come to the feel of the song. If you have something to add, I’d sure be ready to listen. Thanks and some really captivating playing, I liked it!
