  • In this episode, Oz Noy discusses the influence of Wes Montgomery, plays Albert King, contemplates Paul Gilbert’s instructional videos, flips over our V, and tells us how he is not a shredder.
These sessions help keep the music alive by helping the Songbirds Foundation raise money to buy guitars for kids…check out our website to find out more- songbirdsfoundation.org.
Oz plays a beautiful Aqua (one off) 1957 Fender Stratocaster, 1967 Gibson ES-330 TD, 1963 Gibson ES-355 TD, and a 1958 Gibson Flying V on display at the Songbirds Guitar Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Thanks to our sponsors- The Riverview Foundation, Schillhahn-Huskey Foundation, GHS Strings, and Todd Sharp Amplifiers. Special thanks to John Dooley for the great video work.
WE HAVE SOME BIG SESSIONS COMING SOON: The Steel Woods, Todd Sharpe, John Paul White, Parker Millsap, and more Moon River Sessions. Subscribe for more!

4:46 "You can't really practice on it comfortably".
5:00 "It's actually feels really comfortable to play on".
As someone who has a V with a 58 neck profile, I second that notion.

I love watching a pro get blown away like that! There was a definite connection with that beautiful V.

Either that or I he was flexing the neck joint for that subtle tremolo you can hear, you can see him really lever his forearm into the guitar, like Ted Greene, Lenny Breau etc.

Love this v , it sounds amazing and some... korina and brazilian boards are the best tone woods in the world... this looks just like the Rick Vito flying v with double pickguards . He bought it and the matching explorer , check those beauty's out.......m

Funny, no one has mentioned the pickups are out of phase. Sometimes PAF's accidentally had the magnets put in backwards, not a big deal, but Peter Green made good use of it.

You can’t practice on it or gig with it, but you can just play it with incredible tones? So what’s the problem with practicing on it and gigging with it? I have a Gibson V that is one of my go to instruments and it sounds and plays really good. All the time.

    A fantastic guitarist.
I always wished I could hear him on Gibson's - instead of Strat's or Tele's. This brilliant demo shows it might be a good idea. Of course; he is superb on any make of instrument.

Everybody relates the V to Albert King which makes sense but don't take Lonnie Mack out of that conversation.

  • @SDPickups

This is the second 58 V I've heard that has the pickups out of phase. I think this was done on purpose. The very first 57 Les Pauls with black pickguard and rings, also had the pickups purposefully out of phase. It may be that Albert's flying V was also out of phase, but its a bit hard to tell in some films.....

Anybody know why the fretboard markers are under the board when playing right handed?

    • @InspiretoVictory
      @InspiretoVictory 4 роки тому +3

It looks like a left handed V that was converted to right hand. The Gibson logo on the headstock is upside down and that pickguard is not original. Someone probably flipped the controls around and, to hide the cavity, cut another pickguard to cover it. At least that's what it looks like to me.
