This song is about the holocaust crimes. He speaks about a little jewish girl, a little angel, who was unfortunate to live, in Poland I believe, when it was invaded and was killed by the nazis. A very moving song, now a classic of french music. Jean-Jacques is the god of songwriting in France (for himself or for others such as Johnny Hallyday, Céline Dion). The best songs of Celine have been written by JJG. I largely prefer the songs he wrote for her than her english catalog. Lara Fabian, one of our common favorites, made a cover of Comme toi btw.
I agree. Nevertheless, I think Lara Fabian's cover of "Comme toi" is less emotional than the original JJG version, because it lacks simplicity and she overplays a little. I think that the best interpretation of "Comme toi" except the JJG one, is the one from Amel Bent here : ua-cam.com/video/wMr6W1E6BJU/v-deo.html
This song talk about an ordinary Jewish girl from Poland, killed by the nazis. But we can etablish a parallel with all children victims of genocides, wars, ideologies etc
The Ruth mentioned in the song was JJG's mother, she was a German Jewish woman born in Munich. One day he found a picture of a little girl in a family album. Her name was not known, but she was a friend of his mother's.
it's not "because other people", this song is about what happens in WWII, you know. I can understand it's not obvious but for europeans it is, simply based on people name, sarah, ruth, annah...
Obviously in france, everybody understand if you are singer with germanic name and talking about a little girl samed sarah with friends like ruth and wanting to mary in Varsow what we are talking about And we all know what are the "some people" that decided for her Maybe it's a bit far away for you americans, but in france all grown up people knows stories about others "Sarah" or "Ruth" that some people that we know have to hide in basement when occupying germans come, knocking at the doors... I dont listen to Jean-Jacques but pretty nice song
I've known this song since it was released, in 1982 , I was 8 years old. I fell in love with Jean-Jacques Goldman watching him singing this song on TV. I know it by heart, but it still moves me each time, 42 years later. And seeing your emotion is even more overwhelming. Thank you for making his music and lyrics travel through space and time, as he retired in 2016 and doesn't do it himself anymore.
When i was young i listened to this song on the radio not paying attention to the lyrics. But when you know the story behind, it is really heartwrenching. I heard the song was written based on the blurry picture of one of her distant relative, a girl deported during WWII. Merci pour ce commentaire. Bonne soirée, bonne journée,
This one is about the holocaust. There was a wonderful french film done after this song called her name was Sarah with Kristin Scott-Thomas if I'mnot wrong
in this song he talks about a little girl Sarah who was deported to the concentration camps very beautiful song the most beautiful of Jean Jacques Goldman with "Puisque tu Pars" Ps: la partie violon est juste MAGNIFIQUE....
Hello D, I am one of your French subscribers! I was surprised to see you react to J.J Goldman. He is the best singer-songwriter in France. He did a lot of songs for Celine Dion! As you are interested in French music I would like to suggest the best artist in France that you absolutely must discover! she has a 40-year career and is a real showgirl on stage! Her name is Mylène Farmer! You could start with Peu etre toi (maybe you) live in Bercy I hope you will like it
Sarah was a little Jewish girl during the war who was killed by the Nazis! It's them we're talking about when we say " d'autres gens en avaient décidé autrement " and he says that in the end Sarah was like us
Jean -Jacques evokes the life of a little Jewish girl herded into the Warsaw ghetto during the Second World War, before being taken to the extermination camps in Poland.
Hi, I came to your reactions from your Dimash Kudaibergen reactions with great pleasure and emotions. And now you listen to JJ Goldman who is also my favorite !!! Thank you for your honest and full of humanity reactions. Take care. Love from France ! 😁
Man, you talk about this song as if it was written in your mother language. Respect ! This beautiful song is certainly inspired bythe "diary of Ann Franck"
It was inspired by JJ's own family history. His father was a Polish Jew and his mother was a German Jew... One day, he saw some family pictures taken in the 30's and behind some of them was written "deporté". So he writes this beautiful and implicit song as an hommage to his family and to every holocaust victims
@@jeanleveau7904sorry he wrote this song for a big comedian who's died in a moto crash. This guy was called Coluche. Jean-Jacques and Coluche made a huge help for homeless and poor people. One time a year, french stars make a show to have enough money to give meals, clothes even jobs. It continue despite Coluche's death. It's still exist today, it's about 36-37 years. 😉
He wrote many song for celine dion and sing few with her also. He wrote a beautiful song "Just après" (Right after) after watching a documentary where you can see a nun/nurse somewhere in Africa trying her best for many minutes to "revive" a baby that was just born but didn't breath. ua-cam.com/video/KMdJL-zpxUo/v-deo.html

@@ericsicard910I love her cover on "Je suis malade", but the "Comme toi" cover is less accomplished to my opinion.
Peace out.

This is a very beautiful song. A clever way to speak about the genocide of children "like you" without being too explicit.
