It’s quite sad actually when someone passes away and they bring up their past. The worst parts of ones past. People can recover from things, people can become better. Just because someone does things like drinking or whatever, doesn’t mean they are wasted at every moment. You all shouldn’t bring up his past, you should celebrate the legacy he left.

Agreed! And if folks read his autobiography and listened to interviews 1995 until his death and speeches he did for Windstar... JD was in a real "growth mindset" and making great change. Admitting to mistakes and wanting to do better. I applaud the man for that. We'll never know the immense pressures and being pulled in endless directions. Bless his soul and we need to remember all the GOOD he left us and gave to the world! ❤

@@sketchley80 I agree with both of you! I was fortunate to have known John personally…and he WAS a complicated man, who encompassed many facets in his personality and had many aspirations, desires, and a heartfelt, honest dedication to making the world a better place! He was so much more than most people are even aware of (especially today)! He was a “man” who had some faults like the rest of us…but he had far more exceptional qualities, talents, and gifts he shared with the world that outweighed any negative challenges he dealt with. He was the person who most inspired me to be all I could be…and he was also my “teacher” my mentor, and my friend; he taught me to always look for ways to make a positive difference in the world…even if it is just in my own backyard…in my own “neck of the woods.”
John was so much more than a songwriter, singer, musician and performer, ….he was an environmentalist, an advocate for ending hunger in the world (i.e., for ensuring that all people on earth had enough food to eat, and had a better life); he was dedicated to the preservation of the earth, as well as the space program; he promoted world peace, and so many, many more things - too many to mention. And he was a mentor to those of us who really listened to his words, and the songs he wrote that were about his many passions….NOT just Take Me Home Country Roads, Annie’s Song, Rocky Mountain High, Leavin’ on a Jet Plane, etc….but all his OTHER songs that communicated and showed the world the true depth of him. If you really listened to the “non-hit” songs in which he communicated all that he believed in and cared about, and all the things to which he dedicated his entire life, you would get to know the man (not just the performer) that John really was. The people who just went to his concerts, but didn’t really listen to his words, his lyrics…missed out on learning all that I had learned from him!
The two people in this podcast obviously don’t really know John…and unless they listen to ALL of his music…they never will. He was the single most influential person I have ever met and had the chance to share some rare time with. I will never forget him…and I would never have become the person I am today without having known him. I love him and miss him terribly 😢…but just as important and devastating is the great LOSS the world has had to endure because he is gone. I often wonder what John would think of our world as it is now….what would he think of the terrible way in which people treat one another, the wars, the hatred, the anger, the crimes we commit against each other and humanity; what would John think of the tragedy our world has become? We need a person such as John in this world more now than ever. If only he were still here. I believe the world really WOULD be a better place….
These are just my thoughts and feelings. No comments back are needed. And if you do comment, please be kind. Peace to you all. And if you get the chance, be sure to listen to ALL of John’s music. You will be amazed what you will learn and what will ignite a spark to “do good” in your heart!

@@sketchley80Amen thank you so reminding us of this quite significantly a compassionate man who tried to share his life and the beauty of our planet and the importance we can all make in keeping John’s legacy alive. We should remember a lyric of his song “Though there is silence from the singer there is still truth in his song”. We miss you John.

My favourite Musician, hope to be as good as him one day R.I.P a legend
Edit: Personally, John should’ve been included in “We are the world” that’s my opinion, because he did so much activist work. I mean sure, maybe he wasn’t a pop rock artist, but he sure had credit to be there.

The absence of John Denver from the Live Aid/We are the world line-up is damning of all those involved in keeping him out. I was aware of Paul Simon's remarks and he deserves no credit for his dismissiveness. What Paul and the others didn't seem to know or care about was that unlike them John was perhaps the most deserving among all music artists who really should have been there.
John had been involved in world hunger projects for several years before Live Aid and he would continue that involvement throughout the rest of his life, while most of the cool people who disdained his involvement in Live Aid had at best only a fleeting and casual interest. Most of those who were involved in Live Aid were there only for the kudos and the publicity boost that they would gain from it, and most would go on with their careers never touching on the hunger issue again. Perhaps the real reason that John was treated with such disdain was that he was the real deal and that his presence would have shown up many of the rest as fakes who had little interest in helping feed the hungry instead of benefitting their own careers.
