Jay brings the memories flooding back as I worked as a tech at the Datsun dealer, became an ASE Master first try. Owned the 1976 280Z Metallic Brown, put the factory black aluminum shade on the rear window. The 76 had more HP than the 77 as it was being de-tuned. Years later, found an bought my 69 Datsun 1600 Roadster. Full box frame, glass on gages, power bulge, live hood scoop, disc on front and 4 spd with Bosch type syncro's that squeeze from the side, not the cone on cone Borg-Warner type.
All of the styling cues from the 1600 Roadster made it into & onto the 240Z, 260Z, 280Z and somewhat into the ZX. Then the 20th anniversary model.
As a motorcycle guy, I ending being the guy to fix / rebuild the carbs and synchronize each together, set the A/F, then idle came last. Still have the 1600 Roadster complete restored and convertible top never installed, in the box.
    DK, ASE master since 78

Every time I see this car, I like the way it looks better and better. They absolutely *nailed* the styling on this thing. It has cues from all the old Zs, but looks more like the original than the newer generations. Modern, yet retro. Just a great-looking car. What an awesome vehicle, seeing the video brought back a flood of memories, back in January 1970 I bought a Red 240Z Datsun that had for 5 years. The designers did a wonderful job of keeping the core image of the original. I tricked my 240 up with dual 3 into 2 exhaust system, I ordered a racing 5 speed from Japan, it took 6 months to ship it from Japan. When I ordered it I payed $395 to the dealer, by the time I recieved it the price was over $700, but thankfully for me the dealer honored the original price. I would rev it up to the 7K redline often and it never missed a beat. It handled the BC mountain roads like a true racer, it definitely was a blast to drive, I used it to tow my 19’ flat bottom drag boat from Vancouver BC 3000 miles to Toronto and back, it ran flawlessly and never gave me any issues. It truly was a classic sports car and the new one should have no problem following in its footsteps.

Nein!!... Ugh!!
The original Supra was simple, sporty, smooth & stylish, yet muscular. The current abomination is garish, aggressive & tasteless. Like BMW's of today... 🤦🏻😭
Out of interest, I worked with a tiny woman once who had a Supra (I'd never been in one) & I asked her about having such a "big" car rather than a Celica (better economy, cheaper tyres/insurance, nimble, etc). She laughed at me. Her husband couldn't get comfortable in it, because it was so small. A point about "cooling the turbo" - after a hard run, the turbo turns upwards of 80,000 rpm's, if you shut the engine off right after that run, the turbo has no oil to the bushings and can seize up or wear out sooner than you might like. It's best to give it chance to wind down before you kill the engine.

Beautiful car, i had a 77 280z back in the early 80's, and loved it, i cannot imagine what it must be like to own one of these. I am so envious of Jay and his collection, what a life!

Finally a Z that lives up to the name since the 300ZX. Awesome car and great video!

I absolutely LOVE the throwback look of this car! So glad it's not EV. I may buy this next year.

I love the fact that talks about a car I'm falling in love with. Seen this in the new blue and it was beautiful.

Of all the cars I had, sold, and regret selling, my 78 280Z was the best one ! Cleanest, great condition, perfect paint and interior . Drove it to several west coast states on two big road trips looping into Yellowstone Park from Idaho and Wyoming. What fun! Got many stares from people who had never seen such a cool car , too I’m not a show off but it sure was fun. Great fun with that 2800 cC straight six and manual trans .

Love this new Z the rear looks exactly how imagined the rear spec would. It looks like the 90s rear z models but its classic and now modernized not how a charger or Camaro went through that transition. To me those cars still are similar but without looking at the badge you can tell what car and what lineage this car comes from.

It looks to me that the Charger, Challenger, Mustang, and Camaro were remakes. This new Z is evolution.

Thank you for stating that this was a reupload. I'm currently sick and have been spiking a fever and when i saw this I started having a mental crisis thinking that yesterday when I watched this video it must have been a fever dream or I don't know but it seriously freaked me out lol

Nissan nailed it! Reminds me of when the 1989 300Z came out. Looks awesome and 6spd manual!

Jay Leno is one of my favorite people on the planet! Great video and I swear I feel like Jay has some great insight on what Nissan did with the 2023 Z!

I remember when this car was first unveiled I loved the rear end but not the front even though I recognized the heritage there.
Just saw my first one in person last week and it looks great it truly does.
    Well done Nissan 👍🏻
