@@ShrimpsueyHe literally sent His own Son down to suffer and die on a Cross for our sins. Well we are mising a significant portion of the story: Yahweh first made humans in eden so that they can serve him. The only thing he forbade them to do was eat the forbidden fruit. So, to ensure that his creation woul live forever in paradise, Yahweh planted the forbidden tree in the very center of the garden, made its fruit extremely attractive and heavenly delicious, and then showed it to his children.
All this because he loved man and wanted to avoid driving him out of paradise at all costs.
And just to be sure, he also put a super-eloquent and mega-persuasive talking snake on the forbidden tree.(Satan cant do anything wothout the permision of God, hence his omnisience) Despite all these brilliant safeguards, the case went awry. Adam and Eve somehow tasted the fruit, discovered that the snake was telling the truth ("your eyes will be opened") and God was lying ("you will die immediately"), so Yahweh kicked them out of paradise to live on Earth in pain and toil and worship him from there, burdening all future generations with the sin of their great-great-great-great-grandparents, with which these generations had nothing to do. So he created an incarnation of himself to come down to Earth, and he sacrificed himself to himself in order to bypass the law he created so he could forgive us. Instead of simply forgiving and forgetting, like any normal loving, non-pathological, non-psychopathic and non-misogenic parent. Dont you realise how absurd this is? God made up a disease (sin) and then made medicine(torturing his son) for it! How brilliant

@@Shrimpsuey Jesus is, technically, God himself, incarnated. Then God sent himself to save us from, Hell: his own creation? In other words: God sent himself to save people from himself. Everyone who ever existed then and before that never got to know who this God was, so they are now burning in Hell, even good people.
Why do you think you can believe a story that was told to you by people that, again, was told the same story by other people, and not a God? So the source of all you believe comes from someone you haven't seen, that tells us a story written in a book full of dead statements, killed by people, even catholics. Evolutions is not a hypothesis, it's a theory; illnesses are caused by microorganisms and other explainable causes, not by witchcraft; slavery is not supported by any normal person... then: should I believe in that being I have never seen that has lied to us in a supposed book of wisdom?

The first original bible came from the Council of Nicaea. The Bishops, Priests and Deacons all came up with what is called the 'Codex Sinaiticus.' The first bible New Testament bible. Today in 2024 there are approx. 40,000+/- Christian sects in the world. That means there is 40,000+/- Christian cults in the world because some Cardinals, Bishops, Priests... all wanted their own interpretation of what THEY think the bible is saying. Each Church/Sects is pointing a finger at the others, saying their church/interpretation is the correct one. As an Ex-Christian myself, I can't trust a single Christian with what they are quoting and saying. If one reads any version of the bible with an open mind, and by the time you get to Revelations, you want to take up Devil worshiping. Talk about a divided house. Christianity is destroying itself.

The bible is all twisted up. It says you can't go to heaven by being good yet gives a list of things not to do in Revelation so that you don't go to hell. Jesus says the prostitutes come in before the self righteous do. So then the law is to do evil then but Paul says not to. Ecclesiastes says don't be overly righteous and don't be overly wicked but it doesn't say it was a command from God. Then why is it in the bible? 😂
Kinda stupid, don't you think? 🤔
It says be perfect yet it also says there is none righteous. It also says it is hard even for the righteous to get into heaven. So what's the point then? It's all a mind game.

No matter if you call it a "relationship" or not (though Relationships can be Demonstrated, and are TWO-Way Streets of _Actual_ Communication), the fact that you BELIEVE IN a figure known as "Jesus" (AND Believe that person to have Been "God") means YOU. Whether your personal Religious Ideology is Non-Denominational (or Not), and whether it Does or Doesn't YET Have A Name, Cannot change the Objective Fact that it IS Still A Christian Religious Ideology that is Entirely Predicated on the Central Christian Religious Figurehead as alleged & expounded about from the Christian Religious 'Holy' Texts.

As a person who just started my journey on Stoicism, much of what DB mentioned in the video on death resonated with me. We march toward death the instant we are born. One criticism i would offer ny fellow Western atheists is that we have tended to base our criticisms of religion extremely heavily on Christianity and Islam (and sometimes Judaism - with a moderate amount of inaccuracies.)
This is a very narrow range of what religions are and have been in human history and cultures. And a great number of those criticismd simply don't apply to the ancient polytheists, the countless folk religions of the world, the dharmic religions of India or Tao and Shinto in East Asia.
Yes, the simple critique of superstition applies in all cases. But some of those religions are completely indistinguisable from a traditional culture. And in those cases, if the religion is causing no harm, what's our opposition to it really about?
For example, Shinto never stopped Japan from becoming a modern, scientifically advanced society, right?
Give this some thought. It seems to me the real problems are not with the practices of religion but certain belief systems encourage authoritarianism, imperial conquest, and violence. And i would put it to you that there's only two world religions with those problems - Christianity and Islam.

So why would a god that created you and loves you do that? Also the illusion of free will being a gift. So my choices are love you or suffer? Hmmmm

    • @michaelg377
      @michaelg377 4 місяці тому

No, that's a common mistake. Your choices are to get *Justice* or *Justice* - it's just a question of who is paying your fine for your sins against an Infinitely Holy God: yourself, or Jesus? How many lies have you said in your lifetime? Have you ever stolen, fornicated, committed adultery, been greedy, dishonored your parents, idolized, blasphemed, hated, or did anything else evil? If so, then you are guilty of breaking God's mostly common sense Ten moral Commandments. If you sin just 10 times per day, then after 80 years you will have broken God's mostly common sense moral law over 290,000 times. You didn't just sin against an insignificant person like me - if you attack a police officer you get in big trouble. If you attack a King or President, you get in even worse trouble. You have sinned countless times against the *Infinite* and *Holy* God who created you, and for all of your lawbreaking and rebellion against your Creator you've earned an equitable fine.
If you're innocent and you've never done these things, then you have nothing to worry about. If you're guilty though, then you're going to have to give an account to your Creator and if He is truly Holy and Just, then He has to punish sin wherever it is found - and He said He will. *Will you be guilty?*
That's the bad news - God is Holy and Just, and you are guilty, which means you're on the receiving end of that Justice. The good news is that *"God showed His love for us by sending His Son to die for us while were still sinners"* (Romans 5:8). You committed countless crimes against Him; Jesus paid your fine in your place so you could be released on bail.
      So no, your choices are:
      A) Accept justice for your numerous counts of lying, theft, adultery, fornication, hatred, dishonoring your parents, greed, blasphemy, idolatry, etc., against the Infinite and Holy God of the entire universe who gave you everything you have (which means you have nothing to pay your fine with, because even that was given to you).
      ...or...
      B) Accept Jesus' Just payment of your fine on your behalf in your place - God-With-Us in the flesh paid your fine Himself because He loves you, justly fulfilling the requirements of the law, and releasing you from your sin on bail as a free gift.
And your response is not only to accept justice for your sins against an Infinitely Holy God yourself, but you're also blaspheming Him for loving you and paying your fine for you?
...let me know how that works out for you my friend. It's not too late though, you have until you die.
*"But God is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish, but for all to reach repentance"* (2 Peter 3:9)
*"But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken."* (Matthew 12:36)
*"It is appointed for a man to die once, then comes Judgment"* (Hebrews 9:27)
*"The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord"* (Romans 6:23)

This is such bs. Life is not a rare coin that's worth a lot because it is rare. I pity Mr. Barker for never having experienced such joy that he wished that moment lasted forever. What would be more valuable to you: to live eternally in a place where every day is a source of happiness, no pain, where everything is beautiful and where you are safe and being truly and deeply loved, or to end your - potentially painful and miserable - life here and that's it?
9:26-9:35 "We got to do things now while we're alive, and then maybe have some consolation in the fact that our descendants or future generations will benefit from some of the good that we do now."
Oh, and religious people don't have that? Come on Mr. Barker. You can probably name at least one of the countless Christian organizations that exist with the sole purpose of providing a better life for (future generations of) people. Yes, Salvation Army, very good! Yes, Samaritan's Purse, indeed! Yes, World Vision! And the rest.

      * did you present evidence of a god?

No, no, and no. You only described a very weird experience that you then insisted (for no reason; based on no evidence) involved demons/possession and that it led you to believe in a god.
So I didn't choose non-belief. Instead every time I talk to a believer and they act like you're acting, they're _strongly_ indicating that nobody knows any gods exist. It's just people claiming to know things they don't know.
Is there any way to get you to care more about truth? By that I mean can I get you to match your beliefs to the evidence (to reality itself)? And can I get you to admit you don't have sufficient evidence to say you know the right explanation of your experience? Because it sure seems like you don't, right?

God said you are a meaningful and valuable human being made in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:27), with purpose and a capacity for "dominion" over creation (Genesis 1:26), morality and a sense of justice (Genesis 9:6), a sense of respect towards others (James 3:10), and a conscience which reflects the principles of His law (Romans 2:15), among other things. These are observable qualities that we all observe in you, and being made in God's image and likeness makes perfect sense of that. I know you don't believe in God though - so how do you explain these observable qualities in you from your own atheistic "we're just chemical reactions" worldview?
"Do you believe meaningless chemicals fizzed together in a puddle, and somehow "human beings are valuable"? Or do you believe that chemicals evolved, and somehow "rape is wrong"? *Spirit*
Throughout the Hebrew Bible as maybe as late as Paul, most people believed Spirit/wind/breath were approximately the same substance - a different form of “matter”.

Butt defined the term "spirit" as "an immaterial mind". Barker refused to accept the definition as valid. That's his problem.

This argument will continue to go on forever.
I won't knock a person for their beliefs, it's not a moral thing to do.
It reminds me of what we're going through right now between Trump and Biden.
Some people believe in what they believe and there's no sense in condemning them for what they believe in.
BUT...the next time you're in church ask the Preacher why his church doesn't pay its fair share of taxes?

1 - God doesn't change His character but He can change His mind.
2 - If I do something bad, my kids will suffer the shame of it. However, they should not and will not be put to death because of my actions. Although they'll probably get harassed and not hired for jobs because they are associated with me.
3 - All of those are punishments after His people rejected the good He offered. Police creates evil for criminals.
4 - He didnt tempt Abraham, He tested him.
5 - Again, judgement for their wrongdoings.
6 - It was a management of a bad situation which later was ended with with Jesus

"We make values in our brain."
Yes, we do. You do so, and I do so, and everyone actually does so.
"We make values based upon what we need to survive, what we need to enhance our lives, what we need to avoid pain in our lives."
Indeed. And they are by and large the same for everyone. We for example need food and shelter (to survive), love and caring people around us (to avoid pain).
"... when the brains die the values go away, they don't exist."
No of course not. Mr. Barker just stated that _we_ make those values. The fact that you die does not make those values go away. They are still there for everyone else and still just as valid for everyone else.
"A value is relative to an organism."
The fact that we by and large share the same values contradicts that. What we for example need to survive does not depend on whether you as an organism exist.

When I walk down the street, I always look to avoid any insects that I might step on. This makes me better than God because I don`t allow unnecessary pain & suffering if I can help it. God it seems, doesn`t give a *** about you nor any other creature. In my lifelong battle with this defect in our brains, I continue to fight this stupidity from the Bronze Age.

Did it ever cross your mind that there is a great eternal purpose to pain? That suffering is NOT what God wants, and it will only be like this for a certain period of time. Like a woman who suffers from birth pains, but after the child is born there is joy. That’s what human history will be. We prove we can’t do it without Him - THAT’S why there is pain and suffering. Your reasoning is totally erroneous.

With respect, why do you care? In your worldview as an Atheist, aren't those "insects" just meaningless evolved protoplasm in a meaningless amoral chemical universe that doesn't care? Is it somehow *Objectively Wrong* for them to be "stepped on," because Objective morality requires an Objective and Universally applicable source that exists outside of your "subjective" chemical reaction brain (ie. God) - which is a problem because such Objective values like "good," "bad," "right," "wrong," etc. simply cannot exist in the Atheist's worldview. You are ironically borrowing from God's image and likeness programmed into you, and I love that you do that because every time you refer to such Objective values like that you are producing evidence that even you can see in your own behavior that A) you are not "meaningless evolved protoplasm" in a meaningless universe that doesn't care about you, and B) God exists, because without Him, you don't have Objective values/morality - you can't.
*"The long and short of it is that I became convinced that atheism implies amorality; and since I am an atheist, I must therefore embrace amorality... The religious fundamentalists are correct: without God, there is no morality. But they are incorrect, I still believe, about there being a God. Hence, I believe, there is no morality."* (Joel Marks, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy, University of New Haven, "Philosophy Now," Sep 2010).
In your worldview, cancer, leprosy, death - these are your evolutionary cousins. They evolved by the same "natural" meaningless chance processes that accidentally produced cockroaches and dirt clods on the side of the road, and this meaningless universe literally does not care when you step on an insect. Nor does it care about your chemical reaction "pain" or "suffering;" it's just chemicals.
*" They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them"* (Romans 2:15)
Fish don't evolve into philosophers, and puddles of chemicals don't fizz into people by chance, no matter how much *Time* you add to the mix. That's not how science (a methodology) works.
