You may want to check out what your local food pantries offer for free to anyone whose finances are tight. Sometimes they have fresh fruit and vegetables. When your finances improve, I recommend you build up a three-month supply of shelf-stable food in your pantry. I have been cooking family meals for more than 40 years and have learned to never have less than a three month supply of food in my pantry. You never know when you may have a sudden drop in income or a weather disaster will prevent you from doing your weekly grocery shopping. And having plenty of pantry food means you have time to wait for a food item to go on sale instead of paying full price. And only buying more pantry food when you can get a good price will save you a lot of money over time. Unless you have a generator, never buy more frozen food than you can afford to lose should the local power grind go down during warm weather. Cases of canned tomatoes, canned corn, canned beans, canned chunky soups, canned meats and canned fish bought on sale plus powdered milk, small bottles of vegetable oil and many pounds of dried pasta and rice can get you through hard times while keeping your family well-nourished. I would freeze all the pasta, rice and any baking mixes for 72 hours before storing in my pantry to prevent grain-eating insects from hatching. You can also find out where your nearest LDS Home Storage Center is. The centers are open to the general public (check out their hours of operation on their website) and there you can buy #10 cans of basic foods such as rolled oats, pancake mix, white rice, spaghetti pasta, sugar, flour and dried beans at low cost and that are packaged to store for 10 to 20 years. If you buy a three months supply of these Home Storage Center foods and store the cans in an air conditioned location as a kind of food insurance, you can have peace of mind that you can always feed your family no matter how tight your finances. Almost every supermarket chain has some kind of basic canned or dry foods on sale each week at a reduced price and if you have customer cards for several grocery chains nearest to you, you can shop around and build up that three-month supply of regular grocery food at much less cost. Look for those 2-for-1 manager specials on canned goods or dry pasta that are just for the card holders. Cooked oatmeal + powdered milk + honey + a dash of ground cinnamon makes a tasty hot breakfast that costs far less than one of those sweetened flaky breakfast cereals with fresh milk. You can get dried herbs and other seasonings at lower cost from the Dollar Tree or from the Mexican food section of your local supermarket. Stay away from buying those little bottles of McCormick, Shillings or Spice Islands brands at regular supermarkets because they are way over-priced. If you can bulk-buy black peppercorns, granulated garlic, taco seasoning, dried parsley or other favorite seasonings in the larger plastic containers at a restaurant supply store, do so. You can also buy quart boxes of shelf stable soy milk and almond milk at the Dollar Tree for $1 each -- much less than in the regular supermarkets. If you choose to only buy vegan or organic or gluten-free or some other kind of specialized food and do not have a medical reason so doing so, expect to pay far more than you would pay for regular groceries. This is a luxury expense I avoid and I can still prepare nourishing meals for a family member with food allergies. If you start serving cooked whole grain pasta or brown rice with a topping made of cooked legumes, peas or beans + spaghetti sauce or alfredo sauce or cheese sauce or a chunky soup you will not need to buy meat for those meals. Two servings of cooked whole grains + one serving of cooked legumes makes a complete protein when consumed and costs far less than animal protein. If you want to add a meat flavor to your meals, a little bit of diced cooked bacon or a teaspoon of bacon drippings simmered with the topping for your pasta or rice will give it a smoky meat flavor. Or you could add a very small can of chicken meat or tuna or salmon or some diced and browned Spam. Another inexpensive meal is to prepare of box of Kraft macaroni and cheese dinner and add a cupful of frozen peas and diced carrots to the pasta water midway through the pasta cooking time. Or heat up a can of chili with beans and serve it over baked potatoes topped with some shredded cheese or sour cream. I would avoid buying potato chips, packaged cookies, carbonated beverages or other processed snack foods -- even if they are labeled as "organic" -- because they are very expensive and lack dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals. For a quick snack, inexpensive saltine crackers with peanut butter or sliced cheese, home-popped popcorn, sliced fresh fruit or some Tang orange-flavored drink mix stirred into tap water (1 serving of Tang = a day's worth of vitamin C) or a glass of rehydrated powdered milk flavored with Nestle Quick chocolate or strawberry flavored drink mix (powdered milk has calcium, vitamin D and protein) are all inexpensive after school snacks for children.
I love how positive and upbeat you are on a budge - for a while! I am looking up videos because of my budget being so tight and I'm not in a good mood. But you totally turned my attitude and approach around. Thanks!
I see enough supplies, to make tacos, enchiladas, bean soup, Soup of many kinds, chili , Chicken dinner with biscuits and gravy, chicken and dumplings, cobbler. Cassoulet, casserole of many kinds, There is enough for at least two weeks of crock pot meals alone. All before you shop. Breakfasts are obvious, eggs, oatmeal, pancakes, Rice, Egg drop soup. More meals, chicken fried rice, chicken adobo, leftover chicken adobo on pizza topped with sliced fresh tomato. Your bean meals are missing cornbread/corn meal masa for home made tortillas to expand your food options. To freeze uncooked scrambled eggs, here’s what you can do: Crack the eggs and mix them in a bowl. Add a dash of salt or sugar for seasoning. Aside from adding flavor, this also helps to prevent having a gel-like consistency after it is thawed. Place the eggs inside a Zip-Loc bag. Seal, put mark with the date, and freeze. You might want to consider freezing a small freezer full of stewed tomatoes or sauce. Fresh corn cut from the cob and partially cooked into cream style and then frozen is some of the best food on the earth. It took two quarts to feed the family at holiday meals. To me if the veg is good, I can eat chicken any old way. Also: fry the eggs and freeze in a biscuit sandwich for breakfast.
To really save money on rice and beans you need to search for Asian, Indian and Latino grocers in your area. You can get a 20 pound bag of beans for around $18-$20, you can get 25 pound bags of rice for about $20 -$30 depending on what grade and type of rice you are buying. I can get 10 pound bags of basmati rice at my local Indian grocer for $9.00. I can 25 and 50 pound bags of jasmine rice at my local Asian market. Even Walmart sells the really big bags of rice and beans.
Egg salad sandwiches, chips and eggs, beans on toast with an egg on top, quiche, frittata, scrambled eggs, scrambled egg sandwiches, boiled eggs as snacks. Deviled eggs, egg drop soup, add an egg in your ramen, soft boiled eggs and toast, French toast, meringue cookies, omelettes (make cheese from the powdered milk) , poached eggs and toast, mini breakfast bites (in cupcake pan) baking galore!!! Great deals! If your not familiar, chips and egg is fried eggs and French fries. Filling. Add malt vinegar and steak sauce. Beans on toast is what it sounds like. Use baked beans or any white bean with a bit of tomato sauce and sugar, fry and egg, put on top. Boiling an egg at the end of ramen will also help keep you full. 😊
On Eggs, you can freeze them in specific ways, you can blend them for scrambled eggs with some salt, you can blend them with some sugar for sweet recipes. the Reason you season or sugar the eggs is to prevent the egg yolks from turning rubbery when frozen. You can separate eggs and blend up the whites and add a little salt or sugar, depending on for savory or for meringues, and same with the separated yolks. You can freeze them in large ice cup pieces or freeze them in the muffin tin and then bag them, use a sandwich baggie for servings or clear wrap and then the bigger bag, and vacuum seal them. They will last a long time if they are in the FoodSaver vacuum seal bags. (FYI cleaning the deep freeze, and rotating the meats, I had some frozen chicken breast in the freezer that was vacuum sealed from six years ago, and it was perfect in flavor and texture!)
You can make enchilada sauce with the chipotle. You need one small can of tomato sauce, 2 garlic cloves, 1-2 chipotles with a tsp of the adobo sauce if u like it spicy if not just the chipotle, 1/3 of onion and salt to taste blend and add water to desired thickness while blending. Hope you find that helpful. 😊
Hi Amanda! I just wanted to let you know you inspire me so much. I recently started my UA-cam channel and have been posting grocery hauls. We currently down $120 a week on groceries for our family of 6. I hope one day I can get our budget down as low as you do! Thank you for sharing!😊
Crystal Barraza the thing is once you have Staples on hand such as seasonings and basic food stuffs you too will be able to lower your food bill - also keep in mind that different areas of the U.S. have different prices even on the same items. In Maine, I can not get milk, eggs for as low a cost as some of the UTube channels including Amanda's. Prices vary due yo availability, transportation costs and various other factors. - Amanda shows folks how to do with what we have and I love her ideas
Staynoutbof those. Get special over sugared coffee at a mc D. Pour it in S. Cups if u try to impress perp. Stupid. Not even free trade coffee beans there
I take my pasta out of the cardboard and put it in jars and find I only use what I need so it lasts for a couple of months and I feed 3 men. Also a plus by getting rid of the cardboard I got rid of the bugs.
Breakfast back Dozen eggs, wisked, salt, pepper and splash of milk One roll breakfast sausage cooked Can of butter milk biscuits Cheese optional Peppers and onions options Mix your eggs and sausage with veg and cheese and pour them into a glass backing pan. Put biscuits on top and sprinkle more cheese over it. Back for 45min at 350 or until eggs and biscuits are cooked. Too with sour cream.
you could make a pot of chili with the adobo peppers, beans, beef and juices in a can, canned tomatoes, even add lentils! and serve with rice or make biscuits of some sort! love this video!
Hey Amanda! We recently had 1,000's of dollars of home repairs fall on us. We have a huge termite problem and now we are preparing to replace flooring and some structural damage. I'm a nervous wreck to say the least. Our budget has been drastically changed by this. Hopefully I can do a video update soon, everything is just such a mess right now. I'm so happy to see you get more into canning, it's so fun and it just makes you feel good to know you did that. Your jars look beautiful ! God bless y'all ❤🙏
Egg drop soup 1 qt chicken broth or better than boullion 2 T. Fresh Minced onion or chopped scallion 1 thin slices ginger 3 beaten eggs 1 or 2 tsp. I would really appreciate seeing your weekly meal plans. I love watching the grocery hauls and what you have on hand, but it's hard for me to visualize how you turn all those assorted ingredients into meals.
The UA-cam i saw freezing eggs you crack them into ice cube trays them pop frozen cubes into freezer bag. Easily grab as many as you need and thaw in fridge. Use in recipes. You can also Pinterest freezer recipes. Loads to make and freeze ready to grab like quiche, Brkfast burritos, Brkfast sandwiches, protein pancakes, waffles, etc. Have fun getting it all prepped as you go week to week. If you worry you won't like do small sample tests and only make what passes test. God bless you 🐣
So interesting! Me personally? I live in South Africa and would never ever buy pasta/pizza sauces. I would always make from scratch. There are plenty of SA's that do buy them though. Would also not buy canned pulses when I have dried ones. Love the canned jellies and jams. Nothing quite like having jars of homemade preserves.
We make egg muffins for the work week. We call them kitchen sink eggs because we grab whatever and put it in there. We make a dozen egg muffins, the dozen covers 6 days.
You can make chili with adobo sauce and pumpkin: Sautee Onion Ground beef (or lentils) Cumin to taste Garlic powder to taste Chili powder to taste Canned pumpkin Chipotles In adobo. SO GOOD
Just watched for the first time and love it. In my family, I'm known as Miss Cheap and I wear that title proudly. But who do they ask to be on the look out for whatever they're looking for and I most always find it and at a great price. I have been able to help others through the places I shop and can't count the number of sacks I've filled for co-workers, church family, food drives, and my own family and the great thing about it, I HAVE Y'ET TO MISS A CAN, A PACKAGE, OR BOX of anything. The Lord always sends me a good deal to replenish my food closet. You may say you don't have time to go all over to look for good deals, but you do. Just take a day some weekend and go looking to see what's out there and you'll be surprised what you'll find. And take the family and just make a day of it.
A couple of our favorites BLT Frittata Ingredients 6 oz bacon slices, diagonally cut into large bite-size pieces 12 large eggs 2 cups grated cheese of choice 1 8 ounce package baby tomatoes, sliced in half 1/4 teaspoon Mineral Salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 1 teaspoon dried parsley Preparation Preheat broiler. Cook the bacon pieces in a large oven-safe skillet until slightly crisp, then remove from heat. Whisk the eggs in a large mixing bowl until light, then add the cheese, tomatoes. Stir in the salt, pepper, and parsley, and combine well. Pour the egg mixture into the skillet with the bacon, then put the skillet back over medium heat. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes, or until the egg mixture is just setting around the sides. Place the skillet in the oven, uncovered, and broil for 3 to 5 minutes, until lightly browned on top. Keep a good eye on it because these few minutes go fast and you don't want to end up with a dark brown frittata. Deviled Egg Veggie Dip Appetizers, Snack Ingredients 8 hard boiled eggs 1/2 c Miracle Whip 4 Triangles Laughing Cow Cheese, creamy swiss 1 Tablespoon white vinegar 1 Tablespoon Mustard (uses french's) Veggies for Dipping Preparation Reserve one boiled egg for garnish later. Cut all the other eggs in half and remove the yokes into a food processor. Add mayo, cheese, vinegar, mustard and half of the egg whites. Process until blended and move into your serving bowl. 2. Chop the remaining egg white halves coarsely. Stir into egg mixture. 3. Chop the reserved egg and sprinkle over the top. Serve with Veggies of choice Makes 6 servings 1 serving makes an estimated 9 gms protein, 5 grms carbs, 9 grms fat.
Off the top of my head for recipes.Boiled eggs. Egg drop soup, Quiche with cheese and cottage cheese and eggs. Omelets with whatever leftover for seasoning and extending. Egg salad with mustard and mayo for sandwiches. Egg busquits like McD's. Breakfast eggs fried. I use eggs when camping they can be stored boiled or prepared for scrambled eggs and then frozen to extend life. Pancakes with egg fried in middle.
I know this was a while ago, but if you ever end up with so many eggs again, I would highly recommend making a spanish tortilla. All it requires is eggs, potato, and onion. You slice the potatoes and onion very thinly, saute them with some oil and salt, and then scramble the eggs and pour them over. Cook on low (covered) until the eggs are mostly cooked through, flip it onto a plate, and slide it back into the pan to cook the other side. It's great with salt and pepper, mayo, ketchup, hot sauce, or just by itself!
Love watching your grocery hauls! Maybe, on the weeks that you don’t have a haul, you could share how you’re using what you have! I love getting new ideas for using up items in my pantry.
You can freeze the eggs, crack them into ice cube trays, freeze and put them in freezer bags good for a long time, you can even freeze the yolks separate from the whites for recipes, hope that helps!
We eat breakfast suppers a lot. My Dad cooked cornrd beef into eggs with onions. Egg salad for sandwiches is just mayonnaise, salt and pepper to taste.
Do you have an instant pot? They’ll go on sale at Thanksgiving for around $60. They are worth the money to make beans and lentils. You can even cook them dry without soaking if you really need to. Personally I still soak them so they’re softer and creamier, but in a pinch they’re still better than store canned beans. You will save serious $$$ if you buy dried and make them instead of buying canned. Also you can cut corn off the cob and freeze instead of buying canned. The canned has crazy amounts of salt that your body doesn’t need. Check out the bulk sections of stores a lot of times oatmeal, lentils, dried beans are cheaper. Go to the Asian market when near a larger town and buy a 20lb bag of rice for $20. It will save you money for months. A person commented that Spanish rice will go a long way. Classic rice and beans is less than a $1 per serving and you can freeze in individual portions for fast meals.
I have HUGE bags of rice and dried beans, but I keep some canned beans for convenience. I did have an Instapot, but I got rid of it. I just never really used it. It's not for me, but I do know lots of folks like theirs.
@@TheBealles Sounds like me. I didn't think I wanted one. My husband bought one because he likes to buy things. It sat on my counter for 6 months. I started watching youtube vids on how to use it. Fantastic! Makes the best meat ever. The meat doesn't shrink up like it does in the crock pot. It also replaces so many other appliances. So glad I took the time to learn how to use it.
I absolutely LOVE,LOVE,LOVE my pressure cooker, and no its not an Insta pot. But I did purchase a name brand that I know and love. Speaking of cooking dry beans I do it the way my Mom did it,wash them really well pick out the bad ones put them in a pot add water turn on the stove where they stayed until done. She put her kind of seasoning in hers. I have my own seasoning for my dry beans it almost always start with onions depending on how many I am making. I hardly ever use canned beans. I have found a new way to make my beans in my pressure cooker which i love the way i can walk away and don't have to worry about the water running out. I would like to find more recipes cooking with my pressure cooker that I can feed to hubby to. He has really bad food allergies. He cannot eat shrimp, beef, pork, lamb (which he didn't like anyway) After all that they told him he was allergic to milk which the Dr decided to keep in his diet. And with all that being said he is also allergic to dogs and cats. Cats it not a problem But we have 5 absolutely beautiful mini dauchshunds my furbabies. And we are NOT giving up my furbabies! Well with all those eggs itd be deviled, egg salad, egg drop soup, make some egg noodles for dishes. N Breakfast wraps too. God bless you and your family!!
I honestly think you were pretty well stocked. We live on beans, tomatoes and spinach over rice often. Sprinkle the nutritional yeast on top. Rice with steamed broccoli, mix in a scrambled egg . Boom, dinner for weeks without shopping.
You can make chicken or beef clunker soup. This was a staple of our family for generations. After you make the soup...beat 6 eggs in a large bowl, add flour, a little salt. You want to add just enough flour to be able to make drop noodles. Fill a 6 qt pan with water boil, use 2 teaspoons to scoop and drop small amounts in water. This is a slow process because you can only boil about 15 or 20 at a time. Scoop them out in about 25 seconds into a strainer. Repeat ..when finished, it makes quite a few, put a helping in a bowl, add soup. Your own easy homemade dumplings!
Your Aldi still have great prices! Our Aldi’s have all been remodeled and the prices went up. I love that you are showing what it looks like to save for something big like a car. So many people think it can’t be done but we know it can be done.
Not sure if you know the egg trick but if you put an egg in a glass of water and it sinks then it's still good...I keep eggs weeks past the date on the carton!!!
Egg salad is a family favorite! We also make egg muffins (mix in veggies and meat if you like). We make and freeze them in large batches, then microwave them for breakfast during the week.
Hi. Just came across this video. Ever thought of dumpster diving? There's a huge community that do it, of all walks of life, and it saves us hundreds to thousands! I scored a $400 haul yesterday! The amount of food thrown away is ridiculous! A chef dumpster dives! What does that tell you. Good luck!
I always make a big pot of soup and cornbread. Mom's soup is very versatile. Broth, leftover meat, couple cans of tomato sauce or diced tomatoes, add in any left over veggies like corn, peas, green beans. My daughter loves it! She'll come home for lunch in order to eat it and still have it for dinner. You've got tons of beans , but I can't help you there. Except for I'd go Mexican and make refried beans with tacos, burritos, or fajitas. I'd make the filling for them any of the types of meat that you have, even the fish. UA-cam search the type of meat recipes for tons of them. Love Gina Young
Money saving tip: never need anything. If you shop regularly you will be able to shop for sales, use coupons, look for better deals but if you only go to buy something when the item is gone you will have to pay that price. Be prepared. Stay prepared. Save money.
Egg cups, quiche with or without crust, scrambled, fried, boiled, omelettes, poached. You can make sponge cake. In the egg cups add veggies and chopped up brown and serve sausage. You can whisk a couple dip ur fish in them then in cornstarch or flour then fry. Eggs are so filling. My mom used to fry me an egg with a slice of cheese and tomato for lunch. Make your own mayo too. Put in your ramen to bulk it up. You are blessed no discount store near me. Egg bread so yummy. Egg noodles.
Quiche - easy 4-6 eggs 1.5 cups heavy cream - milk Salt Pepper Spinach Any meat ( ham, bacon, sausage ) 6oz cheese Bake 35-45 minutes 350 One deep Pie crust
Maybe you could trade some of your excess with someone for other items. Like, you give them eggs and they give you apples from their tree, or whatever.
I take chipotle peppers in Adobe sauce and make a marinade for chicken and tofu for tacos. Put the Adobe sauce, garlic, olive oil, salt, and onion powder in a blender. You can put in as many peppers as you like, or reduce the heat with tomato sauce...I have done both, and they both taste great. I usually grill it outside. It is the absolute best marinade for taco night. It leaves a little char on the chicken or tofu, and it is delicious!
Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce is so good in many recipes Creamy chipotle sauce 1 tbsp butter 1 tbsp onion or a lil onion powder 1 tsp chopped garlic or garlic powder 1 chipotle Chile pureed with a lil water or cream or milk 1 cup heavy whipping cream Ok melt butter add onion and garlic cook on medium till onion is soft then add flour and stir on low heat until bubbly then add cream and chile and salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil on high then take off heat its ready. If u want it thick double the butter and flour. This recipe is easy to double and I can adjust the spiciness by adding more or less Chile. I will use this sauce in almost anything example: Cooked noodles Chicken chopped and browned in a lil oil And this sauce....deliciuos! Now u can use anything for the noodles: spaghetti, macaroni, rotini, rice, potatoes, fries, bread cubes, etc. And anything for the meat: eggs, bacon, ham, shrimp, chopped fried chicken, ground beef, etc.. And if u want omit the chipotle chillies altogether
As a family of six with my husband being a soul provider and we do it all on our own, well my husband gets all the credit lol. I'm just so happy this video was in my recommended videos because I really need this guidance! Thank you! 💚
Aug to Nov we eat from freezer and pantry. I can think of may things to make and freeze to eat later with eggs. Quiche, Custard, Egg curry, egg bites, egg nog ( I use it to bake bread pudding), Egg wraps. Hope it helps someone since Im responding a lot after the posted date on this video.
We are getting there. Impossible quiche is a great option ... no crust just add a cup of bisquick to the eggs 10 to 12blend season to taste with salt, cayanne, and nutmeg. You can also add a can of evaporated milk if you like. Add whatever veggies, meat, and or cheese to the greased pan i like the 9x9 sizing. Bake at 375 for 30 to 45 mins. Till it springs back like a cake or cookie. It should be golden brown. Sorry for the rough recipe my mum made it growing up and I have just done it by memory for years.
I've been wanting to start canning in case it is needed. It annoys my husband (he thinks I am crazy lol) but I am always talking about prepping for the worse case scenarios and buying extra pantry stuff like beans and rice and sauces....and jugs of water. However saving jugs of water came in very handy when our water filter needed replaced.
Chicken and brown rice soup. With veggies. A mammoth pot that could last for 2 days. Girl you are hooked up! Still watching your video... You have the creativity to make this into gold!
Quiche, you can add any vegetables with it, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, sunny side up, over easy, deviled eggs, egg salad, egg salad with tuna fish, cakes, cheesecakes, breakfast fajitas, eggnog, egg casserole, and the list goes on and on. I hope this help
You can freeze eggs, they are ok for baking and scrambling but not frying. You have to remove them from the shell though. Put them in ice trays and freeze then put them into a bag in the freezer.
I was going to say the same thing. If your ice cube trays are too small for eggs, freeze them in muffin tins (it might be easier to pop them out of a silicone one) then put them into bags once frozen 😊
You can make an breakfast egg casserole. Pre-heat oven 350 degrees F. Use what ever you like of salt, pepper, diced onion, or onion powder, fried potatoes, and if you have, sausage or bacon (can use what ever meat you have on hand). Doesn't take much on the meat. Fry the potatoes first, then meat of your choice. Crumble meat after cooking. Put eggs (as many as you think you'll need, i.e. 2 per person and 1 for extra measure) in medium bowl, add spices, salt/ pepper, etc. Beat until mixed well, add crumbled meat. Arrange cooked potatoes in a baking dish, pour egg mixture over the potatoes. Can add cheese at this time, if you like. Bake until eggs are done and cheese is bubbly, about 20 to 30 minutes, depending on how much you're cooking. Makes a great breakfast. Add a little toast or home made biscuits and you're good to go. :-)
If you want a bit of a change, try Brazilian rice. You cook onion, garlic and rice dry for a few minutes to get a nuttier flavour from the rice and let the harshness of the onion cook off, then cook the rice as you normally would and it makes for a much needed change to plain rice. Goes well with so much. Another thing you could do is ramen omelette. Sounds weird but tastes awesome. Boil the noodles, drain then add the flavour packets, chuck in whatever you want. Usually I have mushrooms, ham, shredded cheese, tomato then add eggs milk salt and pepper and cook in a pan like you would a normal omelette. Stretches a bloody long way ❤️
Also, my favorite Mexican meal is chicken mole! (Mul-eh) it’s made with adobo, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, sweetened with dark chocolate and sometimes a pinch of peanut butter
We put chipotle in Adobe in pot of chili. Pre prepared pinto beans, preferably hand made approx. 1lb Aldi chili seasoning 2 lb ground beef V8 juice Herdez salsa or tomatoes and green chilli Diced tomatoes Chipotle and adobo seasoning Chili powder, cumin and salt to taste 1. Brown ground beef 2. Add beans, tomatoes , enough v8 juice for a thick consistency, chili seasoning and 1 Chipotle pepper 3.simmer chili for 30-45 minutes add chili powder, cumin and salt to taste. 4. Simmer for 10 more minutes and serve!
We eat frito chili pie usually..... Makes great leftovers, Goes good on indian tacos, which is Indian frybread with chili, lettuce, tomato onion. We use biscuit mix for our fry bread. Chili dogs is another favorite. Possibilities man!
So cool! You got so much for your money, I'm a little jealous 😁. You've gotten lots of meal ideas for eggs, my favorites are quiche and impossible pies. Of course you know this, but you can get your favorite candies after Easter and freeze them for later! Have a great day
Use up the cans of chipotle by making Tinga de Pollo! Sautee sliced onion (I use 1 yellow onion, I feed a family of 3 + leftovers) and 2 cloves of garlic in oil. Add in 3-4 chicken breasts and a can of chipotle, sauce and all. You can use less chiles if your family doesn't like too much spice. Put on a lid and cook until you can shred the chicken, add salt+pepper to taste (I use about a teaspoon of salt) and garlic/onion powder if you have it. We eat it on top of tostada shells with mayo spread on it, and top it with shredded cabbage. Eat by itself or with rice/beans. Very flavorful and cheap meal, my personal fave 😊
If you boil eggs then make a mixture of 50/50 water and white vinegar add some pickle spices and you can have pickled eggs that last indefinitely...they are savoury and I love them
I use eggs in many dishes like egg salad, devil egg, Mac salad, potato salad, fried egg sandwich , boiled eggs just like that. Some in a tuna or chicken salad. Just in a vegetable salad, mixed in with rice and vegetables for fried rice so many different baking goods. Hope some of this helps you. Or even scrabble eggs with salsa and cheese . Or just make up some omelettes you can freeze them for later for breakfast.
My cabinet space is full of dishes so I keep flour sugar meal and rice in my freezer door it fits perfectly and doesn't freeze my pantry is small so I keep spices there
Eggs can be frozen up to a year! Just pierce the yolk and put them into Ziploc bags. Do not whip air in to them. I put 4 in a snack sized Ziploc. They are great for omelets, baking, etc.
You can crack an egg into ice trays and then freeze/bag. Thaw and use for baking. Dehydrating is really easy, as well as covering whole egg with oil and extending life for months.
Of your eggs are getting to their end date you could make breakfast burritos and freeze them. They’re a great grab and go meal or snack. Breakfast pizza will use up some of those eggs and it’s good for dinner too. It calls for hash browns but you could use some of your red potatoes instead.
So happy I came across this video! I'm always looking for inspiration. At the end when you say "so if you are going through challenging times, I hope this inspires you!" That really spoke to me! We go without sometimes, my husband and I both work full time and our babies are in daycare but we certainly struggle often and not for a lack of trying. I know it won't always be this way so I am grateful for the lessons we are learning on our journey towards abundance. Many thanks for making this, we are planning dinner tonight and stretching those dollars and pennies! I'm a mommy UA-camr too and I really feel inspired by your channel, I'll certainly keep pressing forward to create better revenue because my beautiful children deserve it! Sending blessings, much love -Jamie Lynn and the babies ♥
With the almonds you can make your own almond milk and with the rest dry it in the oven and pass it through the food processor and you have homemade almond flour
I have a few ideas for your eggs. Potato and onion quiche. Cream puffs with crusted filling. Flan 🍮. Shakshuka INGREDIENTS two - 14 oz. cans of crushed tomatoes or your favorite tomato sauce 4 large eggs 3 Tablespoons (45g) butter 1 small onion , minced 3 cloves garlic , minced 1 Tablespoon (15ml) Worcestershire sauce 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin 1/4 teaspoon paprika 1/2 teaspoon salt , or to taste 1/2 teaspoon sugar 1/4 cup (60ml) chopped parsley additional salt and pepper to taste grilled bread or toast (for gluten free serve with gluten free bread) DIRECTIONS Heat large saucepan on medium heat. Melt butter, then add onions and garlic and cook until soft. Add crushed tomatoes with juices (or tomato sauce), Worcestershire, cumin, paprika, salt and sugar. Stir till everything is combined well. Bring the sauce to a low boil, then reduce heat to low. Stir in the parsley and simmer the sauce on low heat for about 10 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally. Crack the eggs into the tomato sauce, then cover the pan. Poach the eggs in the sauce for about 5-8 minutes, or until the whites are set and the yolk is still runny. If you want less runny eggs, cook it for longer. Keep checking the eggs to make sure they're the consistency that you want. Spoon the egg and tomato sauce over toast. Or serve the egg and tomato sauce in a bowl and dip with the toast. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm. Egg salad, fried egg sandwich’s, frozen custard ( I know you said you don’t like ice cream but it’s custard and good . Dinner and lunch omelettes are great. You have everything you possibly need to make all of these items if you use powdered milk or oat milk.
You are an inspiration. I am on a very tight budget now and trying to figure out how to feed my family is very stressful. I just want to say thank you for sharing and giving me hope, I can do this !🥰
Have been on a budget for years, I buy all generic food except for Cheerios and when my late husband was alive I would buy Maxwell House coffee for him. Learn to make beans and rice you can season the beans and add chopped green peppers and onion to the rice while it cooks delish. There are cookbooks on eating on a budget. Invest in those. Buy one every other month or two. I just saw a video on making sourdough starter learn to make some and you'll be able to bake homemade bread! There's nothing like fresh warm bread just out of the oven with butter on it. Mmm. Learn to make gravy and homemade soup. You can pour cooled soup into plastic freezer bags and store them for six months in the freezer. Lay them flat and they will take up very little space. Learn to make jams and preserves and anything that can be canned will last at least a year. Hope this helps. God bless you.
I am not trying to be mean so please dont think that. You need to use your black olives that are frozen before opening another can use your frozen onions celery etc quick so it doesnt loose the taste. You have alot of dry black beans why buy more . It well help to clean your pantry, covers, fridge and freezer. You well save more money being a little more organized. You should use whats frozen left overs first so you dont end up throwing it out . With the eggs you can boil some, devil eggs, scramble with onions peppers wrapped in tortillas .
I appreciate that you are trying to help. We all get busy, and when I do, I use some of the convenience items. That's why I have canned black beans and dry black beans. I take a monthly inventory and try to use things up, so I am not normally too backed up. It just depends on the season of life if I am very busy or not and it I get behind or not. It happens to everyone.
You are smart and resourceful! My husband and I are getting certified to be foster parents so food budgeting videos are educational and helpful for us! Thank you! God bless you and your family!
You asked for ideas on using 30 dozen eggs. Our kids loved an "Upside Down Day" when we would have breakfast for dinner. Here are some ideas boiled Eggs (In our family "Easter Eggs") added to Chef, Cobb or Spinach Salad, Omelets, Quiches, Breakfast Casseroles, Shakshusha, Creamed Eggs on Toast and Eggs Benedict on homemade English Muffins, since you are a baker!
Yellow split peas are delicious and hearty. They're easy to make, don't need soaking. Season with garlic, salt and pepper and whatever else you like.. Add some of that sliced chicken you have in the fridge.
When I have extra eggs I freeze them in muffin tins. Then keep hem in zip lock bags. It's a great way to keep on hand without having to use at one time. Good job!
I've just subscribed to your channel and glad I came across this. I haven't had a good week with my cleaning work so can only spend $50 for groceries on myself and my 18 year old son who is picky and eats a lot lol. I was a little stressed and then came across your video and thought well if your family can do it, me and my son can do it.
I would make a lot of quiche, they are freezable once cooked and great for anytime of the day. Boil up many for egg salad. I would give away any extras to family, friends, neighbours, church, food bank, soup kitchen. Even if you gave half away it was still a good deal.
Here is a great cheap recipe. slice a large onion and put a table spoon of oil in a large cast iron pan. Saute the onion add a little salt and black pepper. After the onion is almost saute add 2 table spoons of red pepper. After a minute add 2 cups of water then add peeled potatoes cut up in big slice pieces.(cut potatoes in half then cut the half of potato in half again) then add 6 tablespoons of red pepper and let cook and simmer. (HOME MADE NOODLE DIRECTIONS)Then take 1 1/2 cup flour in a bowl with 1 egg and 1/4 cup water to make a dough.Take dough mixture and work the dough until the dough can be rolled out with a rolling pin and all bubbles are out and then put dough back into a ball then shape and cut dough into homemade thick noodles into shape like a shape and thickness of a finger(home made spaetzle) then add noodle to pan of onions and potatoes. You might need to add a little water if the water has gone down during the simmering process you want your potatoes and noodles to be covered..Noodles usually take about 5-7 mins to cook in the juice. When done put on plate. You can even put the juice on your dish. If some people want the juice to be thicker you can add corn starch or a flour to thicken it up. Side dish green cabbage that is salted and excess water squeezed out .put in bowl add 1 table spoon of oil and vinagar and 1 tablespoon of white sugar. or you can make a side dish instead of the German coleslaw salad is very thin sliced peeled cucumber 1 small glove of garlic mixed with 3-4 tablespoon sour cream sprinkle a little red pepper. This dish is amazing and it only take 45 mins or so. Can be eaten the next day for left overs. This dish is amazing. My favorite meal of all time.
I use adobo chilies for chili a lot of the time. Ideas for what you have in the house: dal with yellow peas, chicken and potato curry, fried rice, rice and beans, bean burgers, chili, chicken skewers. There’s a lot of gluten free cake recipes that are focused on beans and eggs, they’re a good way to use both.
Yes, you can freeze them. My kids love eggs in a blanket when they were little (they still do) cut a piece in the center of bread with a small biscuit cutter or juice glass. Grease your skillet, put the bread in and put your egg in the center hole. Cook on medium 2-3 flip. Cook 2-3 minutes more for over easy eggs. Cook longer for over medium. When its done you can sprinkle grated cheese on top if you want. Bird nests are good too. In a sprayed muffin pan add hash browns make a "nest" for the egg. You can sprinkle with cooked bacon or sausage crumbled and bacon bits or cheese. Get creative with the kids.
Tinga can be made with chipotle. Boil chicken, beef, or lamb. Shred. Fry onions until transparent, add tomatoes and cook. Add chicken, 1 cup broth, chicken bouillon, 1-4 chipotle chili's, minced garlic. Bring to a boil then lower heat and simmer till liquid evaporates. Eat on tostadas (Mexican flat hard tortilla shells) with sour cream, crumbled queso fresco, and oregano. If leftovers, warm with scrambled eggs for burritos.
I do about $30 week on fruit alone. Homemade bread french toast. Fritatas, omelets and egg casseroles. And don't forget egg salad with spinach leaf wraps.
Girl- I raised 2 kids alone on $300 a week for almost 7 yrs- been there and done that ! I love to see people thrive on a tight budget !
Wow. I am raising two kids alone on $600 a month for years now. Super hard!
Me too. On food stamps , in the 80,s. The food bank was a nice back up but the limit u if u got stamps.
Northern Light Prism yea definitely. It’s not much.
Linda Wright , what wonderful information you shared! Thank you so much!!!!
A wealth of information!
Good practical information.
Grid not grind. They was wAy too long .
That was so informative! Thank you!
I love how positive and upbeat you are on a budge - for a while! I am looking up videos because of my budget being so tight and I'm not in a good mood. But you totally turned my attitude and approach around. Thanks!
That's great! A budget isn't a bad thing. It's a good thing that helps you reach your goals!
Wrapper placed on the lids of jars! GENIUS!
Emily D Thanks! I wrote the expiration date in permanent marker, and any recipes I want to save, I cut out and put under the lid.
@@TheBealles What a great idea. This is why I love vlogs. So many things I've never thought to do.
Jamerill Stewart makes a lot of freezer meals using eggs including French toast, breakfast sandwiches (with fried eggs) and quiche.
I love, love, love that your going old school and doing the tight budget! You’re so inspiring!
Tight budget? I don't see that, actually.
You are doing great! It’s all about persistence to stay on track and using everything. 😘
I wish I had this discipline. I spend $30 in 2 days at Starbucks alone.
Staynoutbof those. Get special over sugared coffee at a mc D. Pour it in S. Cups if u try to impress perp. Stupid. Not even free trade coffee beans there
I was like you before the kids haha...now I spend wisely!
This is what I need to be doing. We are so wasteful in America and throw away a lot of things that never got used.
I take my pasta out of the cardboard and put it in jars and find I only use what I need so it lasts for a couple of months and I feed 3 men. Also a plus by getting rid of the cardboard I got rid of the bugs.
Breakfast back
Dozen eggs, wisked, salt, pepper and splash of milk
One roll breakfast sausage cooked
Can of butter milk biscuits
Cheese optional
Peppers and onions options
Mix your eggs and sausage with veg and cheese and pour them into a glass backing pan.
Rice is the worst hi carb food. Higher than russet potatoes.
God bless y'all ❤🙏
I am so sorry to hear about that 😞. At least you are ready to tighten the budget up. Canning is fun, and it can be a lifesaver! So much peace of mind!
Egg drop soup
1 qt chicken broth or better than boullion
2 T. Fresh Minced onion or chopped scallion
1 thin slices ginger
3 beaten eggs
1 or 2 tsp. Toasted sesame oil
You can omit ginger if you don't have fresh.
Thicken with a corstarch slurry. Using About 2tsp. Cornstarch. Garnish with green scallion tops.
Did you get your chips at aldi?
I would really appreciate seeing your weekly meal plans. I love watching the grocery hauls and what you have on hand, but it's hard for me to visualize how you turn all those assorted ingredients into meals.
Autumn Vaughn I will see what I can do 😊
The UA-cam i saw freezing eggs you crack them into ice cube trays them pop frozen cubes into freezer bag.
We all should . Jar pasta sauce has 5 o/o nsugar now.
We make egg muffins for the work week. We call them kitchen sink eggs because we grab whatever and put it in there. We make a dozen egg muffins, the dozen covers 6 days.
You can make chili with adobo sauce and pumpkin:
Sautee Onion
Ground beef (or lentils)
Cumin to taste
Garlic powder to taste
Chili powder to taste
Canned pumpkin
Chipotles In adobo.
SO GOOD
I love watching your channel but I had to mute when you were showing us the freezer. The sound made my body twitch!
Laura castle I know! For some reason it sounds icky 🤣

A couple of our favorites
BLT Frittata
Ingredients
6 oz bacon slices, diagonally cut into large bite-size pieces
12 large eggs
2 cups grated cheese of choice
1 8 ounce package baby tomatoes, sliced in half
1/4 teaspoon Mineral Salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon dried parsley
Preparation
Preheat broiler.

Makes 6 servings
1 serving makes an estimated 9 gms protein, 5 grms carbs, 9 grms fat.
Cottage ch is hi salt.
Steph - Martin Family Homestead Will do!
You can freeze the eggs, crack them into ice cube trays, freeze and put them in freezer bags good for a long time, you can even freeze the yolks separate from the whites for recipes, hope that helps!
How do you cook them after they are frozen?
What no way! I usually throw mine away when they freeze in the fridge sometimes didn’t know they were still good that’s crazy
I do the same.........
Cats it not a problem
But we have 5 absolutely beautiful mini dauchshunds my furbabies.
Cindy Weir Thanks for sharing!
Not to be critical but why did you buy black beans when you have dry black beans in the cabinet.
Stephanie Stanley Because I like to have convenience options
Great encouraging video! Subscribed and loved. Blessings from New Mexico
Your Aldi still have great prices! Our Aldi’s have all been remodeled and the prices went up.
I love that you are showing what it looks like to save for something big like a car. So many people think it can’t be done but we know it can be done.
Melinda Banning I absolutely refuse to make another payment, so sacrifices must be made. It can be done 😊
The Fundamental Home I totally understand!
Things a so tight right now. Thank you for sharing, very uplifting 💜
You still have so much 🙌🏻Great video and reminder that so many of us are blessed to have anything in our cupboards 👍😁
Share with your Church family. They always bless you with veggies and party leftovers. I’m sure they’d love some eggs. Pay it forward.
You can put ingredients in google and say something like “recipes with...(whatever u have on hand)” I do it all the time!:)
Also myfridgefood
Hi. Just came across this video. Ever thought of dumpster diving? There's a huge community that do it, of all walks of life, and it saves us hundreds to thousands! I scored a $400 haul yesterday! The amount of food thrown away is ridiculous! A chef dumpster dives! What does that tell you. Good luck!
You can make egg drop soup with your chicken broth; fried rice with extra scrambled eggs; egg custard pie.
You can wisk the eggs and freeze them for later. Even use ice trays to freeze them individually.
I love your energy. I'm a family of 5. So cool. Love these vids. Thank you❤️
Money saving tip: never need anything.
Quiche - easy
4-6 eggs
1.5 cups heavy cream - milk
Salt
Pepper
Spinach
Any meat ( ham, bacon, sausage )
6oz cheese
Bake 35-45 minutes 350
One deep Pie crust
Great recipe! I make these for the freezer. Freeze before baking. Bake as needed.
Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce is so good in many recipes
Creamy chipotle sauce
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp onion or a lil onion powder
1 tsp chopped garlic or garlic powder
1 chipotle Chile pureed with a lil water or cream or milk
1 cup heavy whipping cream
Ok melt butter add onion and garlic cook on medium till onion is soft then add flour and stir on low heat until bubbly then add cream and chile and salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil on high then take off heat its ready. If u want it thick double the butter and flour. This recipe is easy to double and I can adjust the spiciness by adding more or less Chile. I will use this sauce in almost anything example:
Cooked noodles
Chicken chopped and browned in a lil oil
And this sauce....deliciuos!
1lb
Aldi chili seasoning
2 lb ground beef
V8 juice
Herdez salsa or tomatoes and green chilli
Diced tomatoes
Chipotle and adobo seasoning
Chili powder, cumin and salt to taste
1. Brown ground beef
2. Add beans, tomatoes , enough v8 juice for a thick consistency, chili seasoning and 1 Chipotle pepper
3.simmer chili for 30-45 minutes add chili powder, cumin and salt to taste.
Don't forget cheese on anything you eat with chili lol
That's a FULL pantry where I come from. You shouldn't have to shop much, if at all, for a couple of months at least.
Good encouragement. I am just wondering about not buying many vegetables. Do you have a garden?
Absolutely love you bright spirit and optimism, your grace is so inspiring!
You can crack an egg into ice trays and then freeze/bag. Thaw and use for baking. Dehydrating is really easy, as well as covering whole egg with oil and extending life for months.
Yes! This^^^^!
Thanks for making this video. I have been on a super tight budget as well
I have a few ideas for your eggs. Potato and onion quiche. Cream puffs with crusted filling. Flan 🍮. Shakshuka INGREDIENTS
two - 14 oz. cans of crushed tomatoes or your favorite tomato sauce
4 large eggs
3 Tablespoons (45g) butter
1 small onion , minced
3 cloves garlic , minced
1 Tablespoon (15ml) Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt , or to taste
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 cup (60ml) chopped parsley
additional salt and pepper to taste
grilled bread or toast (for gluten free serve with gluten free bread)
DIRECTIONS
Heat large saucepan on medium heat.
I just want to say thank you for sharing and giving me hope, I can do this !🥰
You can do this!
@@TheBealles i didnt want to sound mean. I just wanted to give you ideas. Thank you .
Add some of that sliced chicken you have in the fridge.
if people give you produce and almonds, give them eggs in return. It should be about sharing, not always taking
When I have extra eggs I freeze them in muffin tins. Then keep hem in zip lock bags. It's a great way to keep on hand without having to use at one time. Good job!
As "homesteaders" what are you raising ie chickens, rabbits? What is growing in your garden?
We are not homesteaders. Just homestead dreamers
OK I was inquiring as I saw you at the Hollar Homestead with all the other Homesteaders.
Make a quiche with the eggs....easy and yummy breakfast or dinner.
You can do it!
You can make quiche and stratta bake them and freeze for later.
I would make a lot of quiche, they are freezable once cooked and great for anytime of the day. Boil up many for egg salad. I would give away any extras to family, friends, neighbours, church, food bank, soup kitchen. Even if you gave half away it was still a good deal.
Boil the eggs, then freeze. You have a very encouraging channel. Thank you for sharing and teaching us with your experiences.
You can freeze eggs in ice cube trays, freeze and then store in freezer bags. Check it out to do it accurately. Good video.
@@candychamp4004 Thank you.
Donna Gomez Yes! Super cheap and yummy, if you’re on a budget.
Why buy canned black beans when you have so many dried in your pantry already?
Convenience :) It matters sometimes.
@@TheBealles just always have some beans cooked in the fridge.
You have enough beans for years. And unless a you expect a famine or similar catastrophe, why keep buying them? I don't get it.
I do about $30 week on fruit alone. Homemade bread french toast. Fritatas, omelets and egg casseroles. And don't forget egg salad with spinach leaf wraps.
