I live on the edge of zone 8b-9a. Many people here grow citrus in ground despite getting some freezes. Satsumas are esp prevalent. Unless the tree is well established, they should be protected during a freeze. Besides needing 8hours full sun for better taste, the age of the tree matters. Yours are very young. Taste should improve with tree maturity. Another tip, we harvest our blood oranges when the rind shows a lot of red/maroon color. I’ve tried some when they are just orange and they are tasteless. Enjoyed the video.
Could it be that you picked them too early? Oranges generally become more delicious the longer you keep them on a tree, unlike mandarins that just dry up inside. Moros though may develop a slightly unpleasant off-taste if left on a tree for too long.
Im happy to report that I just picked 4 or 5 in late December of 2021 and they were delicious. So I’m guessing the problem was I left them on the tree to long. Im hoping for another good crop this year 😊

Thank you!

The amount of sunshine is important, sun produces the sugar in the fruit.
Thanks for the tip. I thought I was getting enough hours of sun but maybe it needs more
