I picked up from my garden oranges like these. My mom was scared to eat them and i was excited even more to eat it. Mine were not blood red but so dark. Dark purple. It was so cool to eat it. It was the most rarest fruit i could have eaten until now. I looked up online and it has powerful effect. Healing inflammantions and colds. Even urinary blockage or inflamation.
These fruits taste amazing! I had a sample at my local farmer's market and bought a pound for $3.50. It is like eating a tangarine and lemon because of its balance of sweet and sour. Very educational video too!

@@로건-n6m What is the point of seeds? The plants from these seeds will be hybrids not a Cara Cara because trees have cross pollination during the blooming season. You need to buy cutting only.
Yeaahh, this is a neat blood orange. A must have for blood orange enthusiasts and collectors. Due to the HLB citrus disease (cisr.ucr.edu/invasive-species/huanglongbing-hlb-or-citrus-greening) and the protocol to contain the spread, budwood is generally limited to registered suppliers. I've gotten my budwood from citrusvariety.ucr.edu/budwood.html . It used to be a bargain but due to demand (I feel) costs have gone up. So cost wise, it may be more economical to purchase a live tree. This tree was purchased from www.fourwindsgrowers.com/ . At present, they do not have trees in stock but I am sure they will have trees available as spring approaches. If you do order budwood, check out the other types of blood oranges! Especially 'Sanguinello'; live trees are not available to purchase anywhere in the USA. I've got this one grafted and now waiting for it to make fruit :D

That is not crazy at all!! It's so important to present my content as realistic as possible. Apart from the HLB citrus disease, citrus trees are very resilient plants when grown in full sun in an adequate climate (especially in California.) Curling leaves are usually from leaf miners that are prevalent during the warm months. The thing to look out for are ants running up and down the trunk. If there are ants, they are usually farming scale. Scale are insects that will literally sap the tree of nutrients. Too many scale insects can hurt a tree.
@@HillTopRooted You're welcome. To deal with the ants first you're going to want to limit the traffic to just the trunk. That means trimming any part of the tree that touches something that the ants can use to climb onto the tree. It could be any part of the tree that touches another tree, a fence, the side of a house, wire, etc. The next step is to give them ant bait. First try Terro liquid ant baits (Home Depot/Lowes) and set the bait by the base of the trunk. If you have a lot of ants, like a solid lane of them or even two lanes of them, try using at least two of these baits. Give it a week or two and see if the numbers go down. If you have a really bad situation, it may be necessary to cut off the ants' access to the tree by using a sticky substance. The product is called, "Tanglefoot." It is applied around the trunk. The sticky substance prevents the ants from going further up. Before applying Tanglefoot, I would wrap the trunk with a couple to tree passes of masking or painter's tape. Then apply Tanglefoot onto of the wrap. This makes taking off Tanglefoot much easier and less messy. Over time, Tanglefoot will loose its stickiness and will need to be taken off.

This one turned out to be a pretty one. The tree was sent from a grower in Winters, CA; it's right next door to you. It should grow happily. From my infrequent visits, the Stockton/ Sacramento looked like such a balanced climate for growing all sorts of wonderful plants. I am jealous!

Hello, Asha. I do have a large yard. I keep the yard mostly open for my son to run around in. Sometimes I feel like a thirsty man in an ocean ;) The main reason for keeping this in a container is that I am not sure that this is our forever house. In several years we hope to move. I am keeping this and two other citrus in containers so that time is not lost when we move. There is also the sentimental reason as some of them arrived via parcel on the day of my child's birth. In my opinion: 1. Moro -- Lots of anthocyanin means fruity flavor. Oftentimes fruit is peelable. Tart but it can be eaten without sugar added. 2. Tarocco -- Essentially as sweet juicing orange for winter. Lots of juice some anthocyanin. 3. Sanguinelli -- a nice novelty orange. On the tart side. I havent tried a Maltese so I cannot comment or compare.

Hello. There are winter and summer varieties of orange. In the winter time, navel oranges are ready. In the summer, juicing oranges like 'Valencia' are ready. To answer your question, you will need to seek a variety that matures for summer harvest.
when it comes to blood oranges, the outside does not give the correct picture of what it inside. in other words, color is not a good indicator to go by. the fruit quality is dependent on the weather. each year is different and knowing when to harvest is based on sampling fruit. if they are too tart, i leave them on the tree for a bit longer and sample again. hope this helps.
Oh I see so why wouldn't it be successful? I read up a long time ago that citrus or trees in the same family will graft but those that are different let's say an apple and an orange will always fail

Hello Paul. I think that it is far a couple of reasons. The first and biggest reason is that it is not sweet like traditional oranges. That makes them relatively more difficult to sell to the masses. However, there seems to be a growing interest in blood oranges; this may change things. The second is that this variety grows best in a particular climate. Again, it can be grown in relatively fewer places than sweet oranges.
The dwarf root stock are perfect for collections as the trees do not get big. I bet that they are also perfect for growing in a green house were space is limited. I hope you find an online source for mail ordered trees.
Greetings from California, Petar. Because of how citrus trees are typically grown, it is often not recommended that they be grown from seed. If you like to learn more, see: www.neverenoughdirt.com/2016/02/a-thing-or-two-about-fruit-trees/ In short, seed grown citrus have genetic variances and it is unlikely that the fruit characteristics you're seeking will be achieved from a seed grown tree--especially a blood orange. The exceptions are more likely present in Mandarian oranges and pomelo. That said, if you wish to try to grow citrus from seed: the germination process and be sped up by removing the other covering of the seed. There are videos that show this process.

Assuming that the grafts are successful: the pink lemon graft will produce pink lemons and the blood orange graft will produce blood orange.
