    yea, man that was a great first impression... I don't have one on my kayak yet (still lol)... Talking to some guys though, it may be better to not have a touch screen because they have a tendency to go all wonky and there's no manual override to turn off the touch screen feature. I'm not sure how true that is, but it's just what I've heard from a couple guys. Again, you have chosen wisely... lol Nice review, Travis!!!

    • @TravisDoesKayakFishing
      @TravisDoesKayakFishing  3 роки тому

      I never thought about that with the touch screens but it makes sense. I know for navigation it would be nice, but the zoom buttons help out a lot with that. If you get one, I would recommend staying away from the entry models. I didn't like my Garmin Striker 4 at all. This one is mid-range and I love it.

    I have the same one . I’m struggling for decent settings - your settings alot more clearer then mine . What’s your settings

    • @TravisDoesKayakFishing
      @TravisDoesKayakFishing  Рік тому +1

      I would have to set the gain manually pretty much every trip. Settings> Gain. I went down I think two maybe three. This allowed me to see soft vs hard bottoms more easily.
      I would adjust my noise settings each trip too. I would want less interference at or 1 in muddy, 2 in stained, 3 in two foot of visibly, and 4 in ultra clear. Turn surface noise off and just leave it there. No need to see that IMO.
      That's really it. I know someone else had a similar issue and it was their transducer cable having a problem, but it's likely just needing a tweaking or two as you are thinking.

      I am not sure if it is part of the Vivid series. I don't think it its. It's 499 for this one but the imaging is awesome. The only downside to this is not having built in maps. It's can take some time to complete contour mapping from a kayak. Everything else is fire.

      Hi, you can scroll the screen and mark waypoints:
      1. From a sonar view, use the arrow keys to select a location to save.
      2. Press ”Select” symbol.
      3. If necessary, edit the waypoint information.
      This information is located in the Garmin Vivid manual under the topic ”Creating a Waypoint on the Sonar Screen Using the Device Keys”.

      Most trips, I do. I think it's great for discovery structure, depth, suspended fish, and temperature. All the things most units do. I love the side scan. However, if I could do this again, I would spend a little more. I know that sounds crazy, but MAPS!
      Unless you have a motorboat, it takes forever to get contours mapped and it will never look the same as premade map.
      Let me say this, I would take this over any other sonar. I have tried in the sub 600 range. Hands down.
